Shearography edit war

I agree I don't know what those IPs are upto but the war is slow going since November, maybe they think that won't defy the 3rr in a day rule--Lerdthenerd (talk) 11:55, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed! Quite funny in some ways, really... I nearly reported it elsewhere, but thought it best to warn them first. Stephenb (Talk) 11:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I warned one of the IPs you missed and have made a thread on the articles talk page for them, it looks as if they are fighting over two pictures to go into the article! what do we do as the edits are not in a 24 hour period--Lerdthenerd (talk) 12:01, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Good idea (I'm a bit busy so missed the other IP)! As to what we can do, as I say I nearly reported it to the edit-warring noticeboard but decided to go down this route first Stephenb (Talk) 12:09, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Edit War, Background

I can explain the background of the edit war: I created the first version of shearography "Desmoquattro" back in 26 of March 2009. It took some time before another manufacturer of shearography discovered it and completely messed it up just to get some pictures of the own equipment there WITHOUT paying any respect to formatting etc wich suffered a lot: please see revision (19:52, 6 June 2010) made by user Shearo. I re-edited the page (10:01, 14 June 2010 Desmoquattro) to make it look reasonable good again with formatting and also made a compromise that both of our equipments are on display. This edit was messed up again from user Shearo (06:42, 30 June 2010 Shearo) without any respect to format, just to bring up pictures of the own producs. I reseted it again to a clean version. But once again it was destroyed by (15:37, 29 July 2010 Shearo) In Octber 2010, it reached a new level when user shearo (or he/she behind a IP) started to change the hypertext on the external links so "Dantec Dynamics" could not be clicked on for more information. This is in my opinion sever and after this the "war" started. I have tried to keep the page clean and not use it as some marketing tool, and not destroying for any one else editing it for developing it. Hope that we can find a solution here and stop this destructive edits done from user Shearo (or the anonomyss IP he/she is using) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Desmoquattro (talkcontribs) 17:10, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't particularly care how it started, but you should discuss the content on the article's Talk Page or (if there is persistent spamming and ignoring of the Talk Page) report the problem somewhere like the Administrator's noticeboard. Either way, please stop Edit Warring! Stephenb (Talk) 17:15, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
FYI, I have copied this discussion to the Talk Page of the article. Stephenb (Talk) 17:18, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

User OTHAFA

I see you have crossed swords with OTHAFA (talk · contribs), suspecting (rightly) that he/she is a sock puppet of Spqlh (talk · contribs). You might be interested in another sock account 68.233.241.40 (talk · contribs), which was blocked yesterday. Perhaps there is a case for reporting the other two? --Biker Biker (talk) 09:00, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Spqlh. --Biker Biker (talk) 15:32, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Fascinating, I had no idea there were other accounts too. I should probably have asked for the CheckUser I mentioned on this Talk page... Thanks for letting me know! Stephenb (Talk) 15:44, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiProject Magazine

Hi Stephenb, I noticed you are a member of the WikiProject Magazine, which I have joined and will contribute in the future. I have created a new page for an online magazine Bloginity which was up for speedy deletion several times for several reasons. I was hoping to get your voice on this matter and help me get the page published as it contains quality and informative information for anyone who is interested in reading about the background, and foundation. I am looking forward to your reply, and hoping that you would share your voice in this article entry. (71.190.254.239 (talk) 21:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC))

Moved to talk from userpage by User:The High Fin Sperm Whale.
Hi StephenB, my apologies for posting on your User page :) (71.190.254.239 (talk) 21:30, 20 January 2011 (UTC)).
Hi Stephenb, thanks for your comment on the Bloginity deletion page. And sorry for writing you previous from an IP address. I have added citation references for the Bloginity page to assets the value of the sources better. I was hoping you would take a quick look once again. Kind regards (Knox387 (talk) 14:58, 23 January 2011 (UTC)).

David Copperfield

I just found that Wikipedia has an entire disambiguation page for David Copperfield. Should I use that on the novel page instead? 98.197.249.31 (talk) 16:36, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

There's no need. Anyone looking for the magician or anything that isn't the book wouldn't go to David Copperfield (novel) to start with. They'd either go, or be linked to, the David Copperfield disambiguation page in the first place. Stephenb (Talk) 16:38, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

My defence

Hello Stephenb. I would just like to explain my user-page. I am actually one of Chris Morris's uncredited writing partners and collaborated with him on his earlier work, as well as his movie debut, Four Lions. I took a break to work on my own media career from 1998-2007 under the pseudonym of 'Matthew Holness'. You may or may not have heard of me. Those are the two options. Deathmagnetic11 (talk) 21:46, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Dan/Matthew/DeathMagnetic11 - unfortunately for you, uncredited means unencyclopaedic here on Wikipedia unless you can find reliable sources to your claims. Stephenb (Talk) 21:50, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Like I said, I was uncredited. Although I was credited as 'Saleh' with an unknown surname on the decline episode of Brass Eye. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deathmagnetic11 (talkcontribs) 21:59, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Tough luck then. As a warning, what you claim on your user page is nothing to do with me, but trying to insert yourself on Wikipedia articles without a valid source will be considered further vandalism and will be reverted (if not by me, by others). Stephenb (Talk) 22:03, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Sam Becket

Hey, I'm new to editing Wikipedia, so I'm not sure what I did wrong concerning correcting his name? It's not spelt 'Beckett' as it says in the article, it's spelt 'Becket'. As this is an error, I thought I'd change it, and I'm not sure how it can be deemed 'unconstructive' if I am making information more accurate? Help, please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.64.154 (talk) 12:18, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

To put it simply: you are incorrect, it is spelled "Beckett" Stephenb (Talk) 12:20, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I don't mean to appear rude, but having just watched the season finale, where the his name was spelt on the screen with only one 't', I can't see how I'm wrong? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.64.154 (talk) 12:21, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Either you are reading it wrong or the production team got it wrong. Either way, every reference I can find, including my QL novelisations sitting 5 feet frmo me, say "Beckett" Stephenb (Talk) 12:23, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Fair enough, I guess they made a typo, so sorry for making the change.90.201.64.154 (talk) 12:27, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

"Wiki-desperation"

Hi there STEPHEN, VASCO from Portugal here,

after seeing you send a message to this Spanish anon IP (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:213.4.215.229), i ask for your help (although, judging from your user page i see you are not an administrator): in Nuno André Coelho, an "user", using various IP addresses (including the one to which you sent your message), started vandalizing the article.

After i reported him and stuff, he is clearly after me, undoing every single improvement i do in the article (and i don't mean just clicking "undo", i mean undoing MANUALLY, that is bit by bit, word for word!). I have warned Satori Son, also an admin, but he tends to spend large periods of time away from WP, guess i caught him in "one of those days".

Any help and/or assistance, little as it may be, would be highly appreciated. Cheers and happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:33, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I'm not sure what you are asking of me - you've reverted the anon AP's changes (perhaps two or three times, though different IPs each time) over the last two months, which seems fine - compared to many articles, that's a very low rate of vandalism! If it helps, I use the Twinkle tool which allows me to automatically warn vandals when they make bad edits, so perhaps you could too? (Basically, the tool helps revert edits quickly and optionally puts {{subst:uw-vandalism|subject}} messages on the offending editor's Talk pages.) I'm afraid I wouldn't know vandalism on that article if I watched it myself. Stephenb (Talk) 19:35, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
  • Appreciate your swift reply. I was thinking more along the lines of what could be done to stop the vandal in its tracks, but your help was greatly taken into consideration as well. Keep it up! - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:41, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Old logos

They aren't particularly necessary, and aren't historically significant. Colourlines (talk) 18:17, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Even the 5 live sports extra logo hanging on to the edge of the history section? Colourlines (talk) 18:21, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
That was just my point about it not being historically significant. I'd already explained why I removed the logos. Colourlines (talk) 18:34, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

I simply don't understand editors who (a) remove stuff that adds to articles and (b) doesn't use edit summaries to tell people why they are removing stuff (although you did the second time around, thanks for that - it certainly looked like potential vandalism the first time). I mean, it's a virtual article, not paper. Having older logos there is historically correct, of value in showing the history of the channel and of potential further value for the future. Why even bother removing them? Stephenb (Talk) 18:40, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Then we'll just agree to disagree. Colourlines (talk) 18:44, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Regarding Humpi Article Removal

Hi Stephenb,

I had written an article on Hampi to the following page: Hampi temples. But I've come to know that my article has been removed sighting as "Vandalism" by you. Please let me know the reasons for removal and marking it as vandalism.

Regards, BRKrao — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brkrao (talkcontribs) 05:07, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Articles are not removed for vandalism, they are removed because they are nonsense, non-notable etc. The Hampi article you point to above exists, and the only time I have edited it is to REMOVE vandalism, back in July. Regards, Stephenb (Talk) 09:55, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
my fault- Egregious copy/paste from Karnataka gazette 1983 posing as edits, so removed. Editor complains to all who might listen. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:50, 18 September 2011 (UTC)).

Non-free rationale for File:SapphireAndSteelBook.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:SapphireAndSteelBook.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
