Category emptying

Please explain If you want Category:Magnapop media deleted, why don't you nominate it at WP:CFD rather than emptying it yourself? Thanks and have a good 2016. —Justin (koavf)TCM 07:20, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Categories for album redirects?

Tanbircdq (talk · contribs) suggested you might help clarify if and when categories were appropriate for album redirects. [1]

I redirected three non-notable album articles that had spammy references. Tanbircdq added categories to those redirects [2] [3] [4]. I certainly don't look at redirects in detail, and wasn't aware that categories were appropriate in any circumstances. Given the nature of music publishing, I'd hope we'd have some strong consensus on how to handle such situations given how easily they could be misused for promotion of content with little or no encyclopedic value. --Ronz (talk) 16:37, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Ronz, you should read WP:Categorizing redirects future reference. The answer is on WP:INCOMPATIBLE where it states that redirects can be categorised when the category is incompatible with the title of the target page, take care. Tanbircdq (talk) 20:31, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the response, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars! --Ronz (talk) 21:44, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

The article survived AfD. Don't move it to draft, which is the same as deletion. Bgwhite (talk) 23:56, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

February 2016

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Live at the Greek Theatre 2008. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Sundayclose (talk) 01:29, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

  • I added a category, you removed it out of process, so I added it back because you failed to follow policy. I even took it to the discussion page as requested, yet you refuse to partake. Please don't empty categories out of process just because you don't like them. WP:CFD exists for a reason. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:38, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Day of the Dead

Hi! I see that you created the Day of the Dead (album) page. I was wondering if you would mind if I moved the page to Day of the Dead (Hollywood Undead album). There is a Grateful Dead cover album by the same name coming out soon. It is made for the Red Hot Organization, an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. The album is made by the same people who made Dark Was the Night, Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National. The album will feature artists such as The National, Wilco, The Flaming Lips, Courtney Barnett, Anohni, The War on Drugs, Bruce Hornsby with Justin Vernon's band DeYarmond Edison and Megafaun, Bill Callahan, The Walkmen, Kurt Vile and J Mascis, Jenny Lewis, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Real Estate, Perfume Genius with Sharon Van Etten, Fucked Up, My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, members of Grizzly Bear, Phosphorescent, Terry Riley and his son Gyan, Stephen Malkmus, Lucinda Williams, Angel Olsen, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Yo La Tengo's Ira Kaplan, Cass McCombs, Arcade Fire's Richard Reed Parry, The Band's Garth Hudson, Caroline Shaw, and many others. As such, this is a very large production album and I was wondering if I could use that Day of the Dead (album) space for this album. Mostly because the album is a various artists album and I cannot put it in the title like you can with Day of the Dead (Hollywood Undead album). Thanks. MetropolisHearts (talk) 15:58, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

My bad, when I went to the the page history I forgot I had clicked on the talk page and that's why I thought you created the page. Sorry to bother you, but would it not be sufficient (in terms of disambiguation) to use the (album) tag that the current page uses on this Grateful Dead cover album? Thanks! MetropolisHearts (talk) 20:18, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Not if there are now going to be two articles for albums with the same name. Day of the Dead (album) can be redirected to Day of the Dead (disambiguation). --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 20:29, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, got it. I will put the page at Day of the Dead (2016 album) and move the other page later so I can redirect it to the disambiguation page. Thanks for the help! MetropolisHearts (talk) 20:49, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
I just noticed that Day of the Dead (Hollywood Undead album) has a page history so you won't be able to move Day of the Dead (album) to there without administrator help. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 20:54, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I'm sure that once the other page is made the other page will be moved in the future. I won't move it until later on. At least not until the album is released. MetropolisHearts (talk) 21:12, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Estelle Desanges

If you want to delete stuff do an AfD, not a redirect without warning or debate. Hektor (talk) 22:42, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

  • It is ok to be bold when redirecting, and you responded correctly by reverting. Nothing wrong with either way. Some sources would be nice though, don't you think? You've had YEARS to improve the articles. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:45, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

On Magic Eight Ball

I'm obviously new to wikipedia and have a lot to learn. I didn't realize other users were so hands on and stayed away from the "View History". After checking it, I have to thank you for all of your edits on the pages I've put up, and apologize for undoing your edits in the singles chronology area multiple times. I didn't check the view history, so I didn't see the notes you were leaving me. I do stand my ground on the Stripped singles page deserving a spot though! But thanks again. DakotallyAwesome (talk) 01:00, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

@DakotallyAwesome: I appreciate the kind comments and I do welcome you to Wikipedia. I am a new page patroller, paying most attention to new album and song articles. I have been at this for a number of years and do believe many of the articles you have created could be in danger of being deleted or redirected simply because they don't have the sources to withstand notability requirements (read WP:NMUSIC, WP:SONGCOVER, WP:NOTABILITY, among others). If you can find sources where the topics are discussed in some depth in reviews or other magazines (print or online), and not just Discogs, Amazon or Spotify listings, they'll have a much better chance at survival. Best of luck and happy editing. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:09, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

non-notable albums

I noticed this edit while trying to tidy up Cracked Wide Open(Cloroform-album) and a batch of other equally badly-named track listings - I'm not expert on album notability, but you might like to have a look at them, the discography of Cloroform. PamD 15:01, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Too many categories

Trying to do some admin tidying up on WikiProject Colombia... under the Category:Colombian sportspeople there are many subcategories, which is fine (Colombian footballers, Colombian boxers, etc.), but one of them is Category:Paralympic competitors for Colombia, which subdivides again into Category:Paralympic medalists for Colombia, which then subdivides AGAIN into Category:Paralympic silver medalists for Colombia... and aside from all this there is also the separate Category:Paralympic athletes of Colombia. And the thing is, there are only two athletes that populate all these categories. My head hurts – please tell me that this is overcategorisation gone crazy and that we can streamline this into just one category (which should probably be called Category:Colombian Paralympic athletes to keep the naming system consistent). Richard3120 (talk) 23:09, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, maybe was notable after all?

Hi, just noticed this. And I'm sure you were right at the time based on the state of the album stub which lacked a decent lead and crucially lacked the relevant content on notability from artist page Sammi Cheng which says; "They released her first Mandarin album, "Worth It" (值得). The album was number one on the Taiwan IFPI chart for six consecutive weeks" ... Six weeks for a first album in Taiwan is reasonably significant, which is both sourced on en.wp artist article, and confirmed on the Chinese wikipedia article for the album. The first week it hit No.1 in Taiwan the album received a short article in Billboard. Would you consider undoing the edit? In ictu oculi (talk) 07:15, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

If restored I think an (expand Chinese) tag on the album would still be required. Unless you do it first I would also add the Billboard link. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:16, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
@In ictu oculi: It's restored but I didn't add any of the sources you found. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 15:20, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Article called the Dinosaur Record

You recently effected a speedy deletion of an article called the Dinosaur Record. You stated your opinion that it did not meet Wikipedia's notability requirements. The page had been created some years ago. Information and references had been added and amended over the years, and as far as one can tell, it complied with all of Wikipedia's notability requirements. Can you please reconsider the deletion and re-create the article, or, failing that, be more specific in providing information, regarding what evidence is needed to make it acceptable to Wikipedia policy.Barmispain (talk) 08:31, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

  • I only requested deletion and did not delete the article itself. The article, as it was, did not have any reliable sources, did make any claims of significance as to why it is notable, and no articles existed on the artists who recorded the album. Perhaps you can ask Patar knight to restore it or take your request to WP:REFUND. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 15:37, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Please see A9 of our criteria for speedy deletion. As none of the artists listed on the page have Wikipedia articles and the article doesn't indicate any notability besides having been recorded, it meets all of the requirements for speedy deletion under A9. If there is something we're missing here that would indicate notability, I can send you the text of the deleted article to you in an email for you to work on. ---- Patar knight - chat/contributions 16:30, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

>Hello, there!

Hello, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, I appreciate your edit on the page I created, Wild Youth. Allmusic's critical reaction to the album wasn't really informative enough to be notable in the critical reception table. But it was worthy enough to be an external link. I failed to realize that, but thankfully, you didn't. So I just wanted to give you a nice warm thanks for your thoughtful contribution. Have a nice day. P.s., let me know what you think of the page here or on my talk page. Thanks.

Sincerely, Infopage100 --Infopage100 (talk) 12:32, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello, saw your edits on Alter Bridge's upcoming new album The Last Hero. What exactly is the track length? Judging the previous edits claiming there are 7 and 8 minute songs. Not that I am complaining, but what is the track length? Are you sure these songs have such length? Someone before you changed it and I don't know.

Regards:The Mad Hatter (talk)
@Mad Hatter: I have no idea. I just performed some basic copy editing to the page. I know nothing about the album itself. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:15, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

16-17 (band)

Hi! You have edited the 16-17 (band) article yesterday. Thanks for your edits! I have tried to add more contents today but there is a problem: my edits are no more displayed as soon as I log off. As long as I am logged in everything seems to be alright though. This also happens on the following articles you have edited: When All Else Fails... (16-17 album) and Gyatso (album) Why is that: did your edits perhaps block further ones? Thanks for your answer. HEADLED (talk) 20:01, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

When you are logged off, you are just not seeing the most recently saved page. The easiest way to tell is simply go to "edit this page" and click "save" without making any edits at all and see if that works. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 04:56, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Template:16-17(band)

Hello, I have just seen you proposed Template:16-17(band) for deletion: I think it is definitely too early to delete it because the whole 16-17 Wikipedia article is quite new: I`m still gathering informations: there are still various 16-17 albums I would like to add to the template. Need some time to write the articles.-:) I have already added some more band members. Thanks HEADLED (talk) 22:21, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Based on your comments, that makes the template to early to create. Articles need to be created then a template can be made once there are enough articles to warrant one. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:45, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Hades (EP)

Hello, I saw that you had reviewed and edited Hades (EP) to have the album EP infobox but its not an EP but a single. It's too short to be an EP. So if it's alright, I would like to change it back to the original infobox to which I put it in. Alicia leo86 (talk) 21:41, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

OK, but please use a different disambiguator for the title as well because that is misleading then. And the album/EPs categories should be changed. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:43, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
I suppose I should do that for the others as well. Thanks for letting me know. Alicia leo86 (talk) 00:24, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Frankie Dee

Hey Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars. I'm not seeing substantial coverage online for Frankie Dee (radio host) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), Divinity Angels of Rock (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), and The Real Radio Show (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) by the same editor as the articles you nominated. Have you found anything? — JJMC89(T·C) 05:39, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

@JJMC89: You may be right. I looked at the couple of links provided which at least mention Frankie Dee and his radio program but did not look at whether the sources were reliable so did not pursue action on those. The albums, however, are not discussed anywhere besides having listings on AllMusic or Discogs and felt they were not worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:42, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Jax 0677's overtagging

Would you be willing to start a discussion on a noticeboard to seek an admin's opinion on Jax 0677's overtagging? I really don't know where the appropriate place to start it would be. I know WP:OVERTAGGING isn't policy, but I'm looking at the part that says it's disruptive to do it to pages over and over, and that's exactly what Jax 0677 has done and continues to do, with Childish Gambino discography just his latest tag-bombing target. Ss112 16:52, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

@Ss112: Let's see how the current discussion plays out. However, he will often wait until intervention to be forced to do or not do something, so I'm not encouraged. He's big on creating Navboxes and early on he was just creating them with the minimal number of links per WP:NENAN (even it was, say, for an musician with a large discography) and then not even add them to articles. Other editors and I eventually took the issue to both WP:RFCU and WP:ANI. As you've noticed, he tends to stick to the same arguments over and over and will misrepresent policy. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:31, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
I see you recently left a message on Jax 0677's talk page again, and his editing has really gotten out of control. He's now blanking whole sections because they haven't been referenced in not even two months since he tagged it, and he replaced a bunch of legitimate singles on Cash Cash discography with dashes as if he was redacting the information because they weren't referenced. This is surely not appropriate to do. I've told him I'll report him if he continues, but I honestly wish somebody else would take it to WP:ANI already. Hzh (talk · contribs) is now having issues with him and he just repeats the same old lines. Ss112 14:38, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
I will get to it eventually, as the evidence is surely mounting as well as the support from others is also out there. I can't commit to when I will as it takes time to put everything together and write something up in a neutral manner. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:16, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! Please ping me when you do and I'll contribute. Ss112 17:24, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Edit summary on Greatest Hits (The Seekers album)

What did you mean when you wrote here that Steve Leggett did not give the album 3.5 stars? 3.5 stars is the rating accompanying the review on the page, which are generally always credited on Wikipedia as having been given by the author themselves. Ss112 00:05, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Nevermind, saw that you also wrote on another Seekers album page that the reviewers do not rate the album themselves. Perhaps Wikipedia needs to curb this practice, as I see it quite often on album pages. Ss112 00:09, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
@Ss112: Hi. Just as an FYI, the Allmusic site states that it's their editors that rate the albums based on multiple factors and that the ratings can change over time.[5]. Thanks. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:13, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Removing categories of J.M. Jarre albums

May I ask why you removed the Category:Electronica albums by French artists on all JMJ albums? All in all they are electronic albums by a French artist... Or is it to avoid an overkill of categories within an article? With kind regards: OXYGENE 7-13 (TALKPAGE) 14:17, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Oxygene7-13:, that is partially correct. Since every album is categorized in Category:Jean-Michel Jarre albums and that category is in Category:Electronica albums by French artists, there is no need to also place each individual album in that same category. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:52, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

"Don't need two sources to verify the same thing" edit summary

Per your edit summary on A Place for Us to Dream, the extra source was because austriancharts.at had not updated at the time I added the Austrian entry, so instead of using a manual reference with <ref></ref> I used the note parameter to include a link to the original Austrian chart site that had updated. I'm assuming austriancharts.at had updated at the time you removed it but in future, if you know the link provided by the template has not updated, please don't remove the extra source. Ss112 23:11, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Are you telling not to do something even though I didn't do the thing you're warning me not to do? --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:14, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
...No? I'm assuming that you may have done similar edits and/or not checked if the original album chart template link showed the same data as the extra source on other pages, so I'm saying that the extra references do serve an original purpose and would not be put there if both originally showed the same data (as your edit summary seemed to imply). Ss112 23:20, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
But my edit summary implied that I had verified the source and thus two citations were unnecessary. I appreciate a warning when I do things wrong, not when things were done properly. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:23, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Okay cool, just as long as that's clear as many other editors have removed extra sources before the original linked source has updated. I didn't view it as a warning, just informing you because your edit summary could have been taken either way. Ss112 23:26, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Succession boxes

See here Where did you get this impression? I don't recall discussion about this. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:36, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

  • The statement was added in November 2015 without any discussion since there is no consensus on the use of succession boxes in articles. There have been lengthy discussions regarding the topic at least since 2010 which I brought to a head in an RFC in late 2010/early 2011 (and in which you did take part). Since then, you will see that it is rare to find any succession boxes in articles for albums that were released after the discussion. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 19:47, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Just letting you know...

That on some of the articles for singles you've edited recently—I've only noticed one (I Wanna Be with You (Raspberries song)), but there may be (and I'm pretty sure there will be) more—JGabbard (talk · contribs) has re-inserted his so-called "aesthetic spaces" between the end of italic text markup and ref tags because it apparently "creates poor page display" due to overlapping text (or some such argument). Despite citing policy to him months ago on his talk page that states references be placed directly at the end of text with no space in between (to which he remained stubborn and tried to argue that only meant in prose and not charts sections), he is obviously still continuing to do it, so just letting you know to keep an eye out. rock en tu idioma

sorry, since your name was redlinked I thought you were a non-participating editor with strange ideas. I have now realized that you are a *participating* editor with strange ideas ;) seriously, I have now spelled out that the campaign consisted of a series of albums in the first paragraph rather than the second where the es.wikipedia article had it... So how about we let the article be in the rock and roll albums category, hmm? The campaign *was* albums, and concerts, not tv or print ads or whatever you're thinking...by the way, what's up with all the broken ILLs, do you know? Elinruby (talk) 23:39, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

In other words that category would be for the articles, if they existed, of about "Rock en tu idioma vol2" and "10 years of rock in tu idioma"? Assuming they were rock and roll, which you say they are not? Still seems strange to me but much as some artists (in general, not necessarily in this genre) change styles from one album to another, well I *guess*. I just found a band that is supposedly celebrating a 50-year anniversary, so I am tempted to ask you for a definition of "old-school". But seriously -- it's Chuck Berry vs Led Zepplin essentially, the distinction you are making, right? Those guys are using the spelling rocanrol anyway, which is a term of arrt for all I know ;) I'm really more interested in the punk end of the spectrum right now anyway. Cheers and thanks for your thoughts. Elinruby (talk) 20:55, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Formatting

excuse this if this was a one time thing

Please don't just drop links in the External links sections. You have to format at them. It's unkempt. Please see this on how to do it. Wikipedia:External_links#How_to_link - but seeing as you've been a member of Wikipedia, you probably already know how to do it?

And please use the Cite button to reference links. It is so easy and fills in all the details.. I've noticed that you leave bare references behind. Bare references just appear as plain links in the reference section and happens when there's no title. Here's a video how to do it. It's loud so turn down your volume ;) -- and when you paste the link in the URL field, click the magnifying button and it will fill out all the pertinent details.

And for future use, you can use this tool to convert bare references. [I see you do a lot of gnome-ing and this is a good tool for that] It's fast and easy, just paste the wiki article title into the field and it will do it all for you. Here's a before and after of how they should look http://imgur.com/a/qWMem

And maybe you could incorporate fixing up "Personnel" sections per WP:MOSALBUM and adding the "studio" code to album infoboxes? :)

Do you know the correct style/formatting to an article? I've seen articles you've edited on where the Reception list was below the track listing. It's an oversight and I'm sorry but it bothers me. I know you might have not done it but if you're fixing stuff in articles, it shouldn't be overlooked.--Jennica / talk 15:28, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: - by the way your signature is not clickable for me? --Jennica / talk 00:37, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
I don't have a user page so there's nothing to link to. "Talk to me" will link to my talk page but since this is my talk page it's not going to link back to this page. --StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:49, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Existence (Audiomachine album)

Hello. Why you moved track list reference to external links? Eurohunter (talk) 09:17, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Revert

Thanks To answer your question, I am removing "[x] by state" categories related to Washington, D. C. I just used AWB to make the list. Thanks a lot. —Justin (koavf)TCM 00:27, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
