To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}}
on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.
Please remember to:
- Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes
~~~~
at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp. - Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
[edit]Hello. Your recent edit to List of boarding schools in the United Kingdom appears to have added a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person, organization or product added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. - Hi,
- Thank you for providing such good feedback on my draft. It's the only school in my local area that doesn't have a Wikipedia page and the other schools do not have as many independent references as my page. For example, the only reference on this entry is the school's own webpage: Trinity School, Teignmouth. This school's page includes similar citations to my own: King Edward VI Community College, such as gov.uk.
- I have removed the link to YouTube and so all of the citations are now independent of the subject and reliable, such as the Independent Schools Inspectorate report. None of the other local schools have received coverage in The Times recently, and I'd argue that that is quite notable. Is this ok? Spangles123 (talk) 00:20, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- It comes from the school's inspection report. Spangles123 (talk) 15:59, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Content should come from independent, reliable sources NOT the school's inspection report. Theroadislong (talk) 16:02, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- School inspections are independent. They're performed by Ofstead. Spangles123 (talk) 16:06, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- But content like "The school emphasises individual care, aiming to meet both educational and pastoral needs to achieve high academic standards' does NOT belong in an encyclopaedia. Theroadislong (talk) 16:17, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- It does if that's what the school inspection says and if it's what the school's exam results show.
- I don't have any connection to this school, I just live nearby and it's the only school in the area that does not have a Wiki page. Spangles123 (talk) 16:28, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- If it is what the school inspection says then it needs to be a quote NOT in Wikipedia's voice and being "only school in the area that does not have a Wiki page" is not a good reason as some of the others should probably be deleted as advertising. Theroadislong (talk) 17:45, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- As long as the reference is there, I should be allowed to paraphrase it. Quoting chunks of text is poor writing. Spangles123 (talk) 18:09, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
