De-orphaning links
[edit]Hi Sideriver84, please don't simply dump links to orphaned articles in the "See also" section on some relevant article. Try to work it in somewhere in prose, where context can be added. Also consider if the subject is important enough related to the article you are adding the link to. Thanks! intforce (talk) 09:41, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Adding articles to Category:Delete
[edit]Hi, regarding this edit - I would strongly suggest reading Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion (I know, it's a long, boring read). I've removed the page from that category for now, as I'm not sure what the rationale is for deleting it. SQLQuery me! 18:52, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
National varieties of English
[edit]Hello. In a recent edit to the page Michael S. Hopkins, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. BilCat (talk) 19:12, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- @BilCat: Hi, this is not an English variety change, but a correction of religious language. In Catholicism, priests are ordained men who administer Catholic sacraments (ie. Hopkins' communication). A "pastor" in Catholicism is an admin role, typically held by a priest of the parish. Unless there is a reliable source specifically stating that Catholics in America refer to their priest as their pastor, the correct term for the person who gave Hopkins communion for his space flight should be "priest". Sideriver84 (talk) 19:43, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- While I'm not Catholic, I actually did research this before reverting you. The actual source used in the article, which is from a Catholic news service, uses the term "pastor", not priest. Catholics in the United States do refer to their parish priest, not just any priest, as "pastor". See Pastor#Catholicism, and the cited quote there. So yes, this is an Engvar issue. BilCat (talk) 20:54, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- @BilCat: I appreciate your research. I respectfully still disagree that the term "his pastor" should be used. There is no citation for the statement "In the United States, the term pastor is used by Catholics for what in other English-speaking countries is called a parish priest." The cited quote states that parish priests exercise pastoral care; it does not state that American Catholics refer to their priests as pastors. I did look at the source cited in Hopkins' article and the associated parish's website; the priest (named as Father James Kuczynski, not Pastor James Kuczynski) is the pastor (ie. administrator role) of Hopkins' church. Is the phrasing "On his first mission to the ISS, Father James H. Kuczynski, pastor of Mary Queen Catholic Church (Hopkins’ parish), arranged for him to bring the Eucharist, so that he could have Communion once a week." acceptable to you? Sideriver84 (talk) 21:06, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- We don't generally need to mention the identity of non-notable people in articles that aren't specifically about them. I'd still prefer to stick with the term in the cited Catholic news source, which is "pastor". Feel free to raise the issue on the article's talk page, or elsewhere at a relevant project page. BilCat (talk) 21:23, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, will do that Sideriver84 (talk) 21:24, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- I don't know if this is enough for you, but see "Pastor" at Catholic Terms. It explains why "Pastor" is not used as a title before a name, as on the parish's website. But American Catholics do talk refer to "my pastor", meaning their priest. I was surprised the first time I heard this used, and asked if they meant their priest, which they did. This is probably due to the strong Protestant influence in the US. BilCat (talk) 21:36, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

About Gordon E. Sanderson
[edit]Hi, E02162 here! I was wondering where you found that Gordon Sanderson was identified in January '21 when every source I've checked states that he was identified on June 30 '21.
- Hey there, this CBC article dated "Jun 30, 2021 2:27 PM MT | Last Updated: 1 hour ago" states "Police said they identified Sanderson in January 2021 and that the case became an active homicide investigation after that." My understanding is that although he was identified in January, the police only released the information that he was identified in June 2021. The news I've seen is that on 29 June, the police stated that the remains had been identified, and on 30 June, his name was released. Sideriver84 (talk) 01:03, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Updating Wikipedia to reflect his identification has been a mess and I just wanted to make sure that was accurate since it didn't say that date in the cited source. E02162 (talk) 1:24, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- No problem - I'd do the same thing if the situation was reversed. Sideriver84 (talk) 01:36, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia
[edit] Hi Sideriver84! Thank you for your contributions. It looks like you've copied or moved text from Russell Williams (criminal) into another page, and while you are welcome to re-use the content, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. If you've copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 03:22, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Alexei Navalny, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. --Renat 01:03, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi, could you describe how you edited the Zac Stacy page? Are you using any special editing tools? What browser are you using?
The reason I ask is that in addition to the content that you added, your edit changed some existing refs to repeat the definitions, causing ref errors. It's the second time today that I've seen that happen, and I don't believe either of you did that deliberately, so I'm wondering if there is a problem with the Visual Editor. Schazjmd (talk) 22:26, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Grupo Extra moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Grupo Extra, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Led Zeppelin, Plural vs. Singular
[edit]Not sure I agree about Led Zeppelin IS vs. Led Zeppelin ARE.
The Rolling Stones (plural) is a band. Mick Jagger is a Rolling Stone (singular). Ergo, Led Zeppelin is a band. So what is Jimmy Page? Because of this conundrum, I'd say that both "is", "were" and "are" are all acceptable. 24.228.103.144 (talk) 01:41, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Per WP:NCDEATH, articles about deaths that are definitely homicides but where there has been no conviction or guilty plea to a specific murder charge are always titled "Killing of ..."
