Adding reference to Wikipedia articles

[edit]
Just follow the steps as shown, and fill in the details

Hello Sid54126! Please do not forget to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Adding well-formatted references is easy.

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and then fill all relevant details.

This will add a well-formatted reference, which will allow other people to see where you got your information from. You can read more about this at Help:Edit toolbar, or watch this video: File:RefTools.ogv. Thanks and regards. —DBigXray 20:16, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ranvendra Pratap Singh, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page MLA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Notice

The article Vikas Gupta (politician) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 10:56, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Husainganj (Vidhan Sabha constituency), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. —AE (talkcontributions) 15:37, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Assembly Constituency Articles

[edit]

Hi there. I've taken notice of your work creating articles for constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. You can see several suggestions have been made here about ways those articles, and any you create going forward, could be improved. One other suggestion would be to use the {{As of}} template instead of "currently" as in "Currently this seat belongs to Bharatiya Janta Party" and avoid the word "last" in "who won in last Assembly election of 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Elections". If you have questions about this, or any of the other suggestions made, I would be happy to do my best to answer them. . Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:14, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your mass edits changing Allahabad to Prayagraj

[edit]

Hello. Per WP:COMMONNAME we use the common name in English, i.e. whatever name that is most commonly used in English language media worldwide, and do not change names just because an Indian state, or the Indian government, says so. It took ten years for Bombay to be changed to Mumbai here, because that's how long it took for the common name in English to change, and we still use Bangalore, instead of Bengaluru, since the common name in English hasn't changed, and perhaps never will change. So stop trying to change "Allahabad" to "Prayagraj", when the common name in English language media worldwide has changed, the name will be changed here too, but not until then. And please note that Wikipedia is an international English language encyclopaedia, registered and headquartered in the United States, not an Indian English language encyclopaedia, so we're not bound by Indian laws and government decrees. Control copyright icon Hello Sid54126, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Amreshwar Pratap Sahi have been removed, as they appear to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 02:13, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at List of sitting judges of the Supreme Court of India shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. regentspark (comment) 22:43, 16 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Amreshwar Pratap Sahi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Stop making unsourced changes to India articles

[edit]
Stop icon

This is a warning to stop making unsourced changes to India articles.

I can see from your numerous contributions to Wikipedia going back to July 2017 that you have made many edits to Fatehpur district, and dozens of edits on articles on Assembly constituencies, and on many other articles related to Allahabad. I'm glad that your intent appears to be to contribute positively to the encyclopedia.

Having said that, this is an online encyclopedia, and one of the core principles is to ensure the verifiability of all content by the use of citations to reliable sources to back up assertions made by Wikipedia editors. I just looked at your last twenty changes (exclusive of minor changes to punctuation and the like) and not one of them includes a citation or source of any kind. As far as anyone can tell, perhaps you made it all up. In order to ensure verifiability, you need to include sources. If you don't do this, the Verifiability policy provides that [a]ny material lacking a reliable source directly supporting it may be removed and should not be restored without an inline citation.(Emphasis added)

In addition, Wikipedia operates by consensus and communication among editors. It would be in everyone's interest if you would cooperate with other editors by responding on your Talk page to legitimate issues raised by others. I notice you have never responded to another user on your Talk page, even in the face of a specific request, although you are aware of the discussions here, because you have deleted discussions in the past. Cooperating with other editors also includes using an edit summary to indicate the intent and rationale of your edit, for the benefit of other editors. Up till now, your use of edit summaries has been low; I hope you can improve that percentage by adding an edit summary on every edit you make starting now.

Cooperation with other editors also involves avoiding edit warring, and I see that you have been warned about this in the past, here, here, and here. Stop insisting on your point of view, communicate with other editors, and don't edit war.

Please understand that I wish you success as an editor, but some of your edits are starting to become disruptive, including more recently some involving recent name changes of cities in India. Please stop making unsourced changes to articles, and start communicating with other editors. Do not edit war; if you make an edit and are reverted, take it up on the article talk page; see WP:BRD. If you continue your recent pattern of behavior I will seek remedies to protect the encyclopedia against disruption, possibly including asking for you to be blocked from editing. Please respond. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 06:29, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone your recent changes to articles on Pilibhit, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar, Banda, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Bahraich, and Balrampur districts. Please stop making unsourced changes to India articles. If you continue your disruptive behavior, I will open an issue about you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents and seek to have you blocked from editing. Please respond. Hi, WB, thanks. I don't doubt that some (possibly, all) of his changes are accurate. That was never my concern. The issue here was not content, but user behavior. I'm more than willing to help out, but at some point, he needs to step up. Learning to cite references is a minimum bar to edit here, and he's been here for a year and a half. It's time he starts doing so on a regular basis, or perhaps this is not the right venue for him. My sense is, he either doesn't understand what I"m telling him about citing sources (fixable in time, we can fill in the blanks while he learns) or doesn't care (more serious). There needs to be positive progress towards citing his changes. I was hoping that someone who speaks his language, either literally, or metaphorically/culturally, would have better understanding and better luck than I have had heretofore. Do you think the Mentor program would be of help to him? Mathglot (talk) 07:13, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have undone a couple dozen more of your recent, unsourced changes to articles; I hope this will get your attention, and get you to stop and communicate with other users. I see now that you have received another warning for copyright violations below. Copyright violations are much more serious than content disputes and verifiability, but on the other hand, you do them less often. At this point, it appears to be a race to see whether you want to be blocked for disruptive editing, or blocked for copyright violations; I'm placing my bet on the latter. Good luck. Please respond. Mathglot (talk) 21:37, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fourth warning:Stop your unsourced edits now. I've reverted your restoration of unsourced information at Aligarh district, Mathura district, Mainpuri district, and Firozabad district. Stop your disruptive behavior, read about verifiability policy, and add footnotes for the changes you want to make. You are subject to having your editing privileges removed if you continue your disruptive behavior. Mathglot (talk) 19:01, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is your final warning about unsourced edits: I have undone four of your edits to List of constituencies of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. It looks like you attempted to source one of them by adding the url of a website to the edit summary of this edit. If that website is a reliable source for this type of information, then you may use it to source that edit, by writing a citation for it, and adding that citation as a reference to the article. See Help:Footnotes for how to do this. Also see WP:NAMEDREF, as you would have to reuse that reference for each change that it supports (unless they are all together in the article in one place; then you can just add the citation once, after the section you changed; but since your changes were dispersed in a table, you will have to cite it in each row that was changed).
I have tried to help you, but you have not responded. I am not sure if this is a language problem, or what the issue is. Wikipedia operates by consensus which requires communication, and if you are unable to communicate here in English, that might be a bar to further editing here. Regardless whether you respond here or not, you must follow the core principle of verifiability. If you are unable to do that, then you should not be editing here. I'm unable to assist you anymore, because nothing seems to be working. I will seek assistance from the India topics Noticeboard, maybe someone there has an idea. Otherwise, I will seek to have you blocked, next time I notice unsourced edits from you. Please respond. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 19:36, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for your response at my talk page (it should have been done here; let's try and keep the discussion all in one place). As I stated there, I disagree with your rationale. I've raised this discussion at the India topics Noticeboard. I won't revert you further while that discussion is taking place, but when you make a change and are reverted, you need to stop and take it to the Talk page and discuss it; see WP:BRD. You are now edit warring, and can be blocked for that as well. Please observe verifiability policy and source your edits, and do not edit war. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 20:35, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

After a perfunctory response at INB and failure to source your content, I have reverted your changes at List of constituencies of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Cordially, Mathglot (talk) 12:50, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You have removed a reliable source at Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly twice (here, and again here) without explanation. This is not an improvement to the article. Summary

[edit]

I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! Jklamo (talk) 08:36, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. I will remind that next time when I will edit any page. Thanks Sid54126 (talk) 09:15, 29 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, List of sitting judges of High Courts of India. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – List of high courts in India. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of high courts in India. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Mccapra (talk) 07:21, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article List of sitting judges of High Courts of India is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of sitting judges of High Courts of India until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Mccapra (talk) 07:50, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No Mccapra (talk), This is the extension of the page List of High Courts of India like List of sitting judges of the Supreme Court of India. It will include all sitting permanent & additional judges of respective high courts in India. Sid54126 (talk) 08:23, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Raghvendra Singh Chauhan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://api.ithenticate.com/en_us/dv/0425?o=45258229&lang=en_us. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

License tagging for File:Indian Election Symbol Cup Plate.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Indian Election Symbol Cup Plate.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. [edit]

Hi Sid, I think the old format was more informative (party info.) for readers than the new one you are prefering. You can see the series of navboxes {{13th LS members from Odisha}}, {{14th LS members from Odisha}}, {{15th LS members from Odisha}} or {{16th LS members from Odisha}}, the oldest dates back to 2012. I am not interested for an edit war or a lengthy discussion, as there are so much pending work post election. Choice is yours, if you agree that the old format was more informative for readers than we can change all the other linked Nav. boxes gradually. What was irrelevant in my editing. I have provided the source also and Government of India and Indian Railways has also changed the station code and name. And it's you who is not changing the previous names from the wiki pages. If you want to put the previous names then why use Mumbai instead of Bombay. Or use Prayagraj and Bengaluru instead of Allahabad and Bangalore respectively. Many metro station name has also been changed then why you were not taken a dig at me at that time and why now? Swing is calculated as difference between vote percentage of current election and previous election of any party. Example- BJP candidate got 26.88% in current election and in last election BJP got 25.23% then swing is +1.65%

Unsourced edits and addition of names

Hi Sid54126 what source are you using to add the names? Please add the source as well. The names of candidate should be in the Alphabetical order of the party name. Venkat TL (talk) 10:04, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Second Yogi Adityanath ministry, you may be blocked from editing.

March 2022

[edit]

Information icon Hi Sid54126! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Second Yogi Adityanath ministry several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Second Yogi Adityanath ministry, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:30, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Gainsari Assembly constituency, is not suitable as written to remain published. 2023 UP municipal elections

[edit]

Hi @Sid54126. Regarding the mayoral candidates added by you at 2023 Uttar Pradesh municipal elections, I don't think you have added a reference for it. The only ref there is from SEC Uttar Pradesh and it doesn't mention the name of mayoral candidates. Unless you can add a reference for all these names, they would have to be removed.
