WikiStatsBOT redux

ThaddeusB hasn't edited in over a month and the DYK nom bot goes up and down several times a week. It's way over due now. Anything we can go to make it more reliable? I use it a lot. RlevseTalk 21:56, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree it is something that needs help, maybe someone could email Thad. MBisanz talk 01:03, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Just emailed him. Can we get someone else access in addition to Thad to help out? RlevseTalk 01:15, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, there's nothing to give access to right now since he's running the bot locally on his own computer. If/when he puts the bot on the toolserver, he can give one or two others access, and it'll be easier for us to jump-start it. I can code a brand new bot, but I've been quite busy in real life and will be for at least another month. Shubinator (talk) 06:55, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, we need to do something because now it's two days behind. Maybe someone else could code one. Matt-anyone available?RlevseTalk 10:13, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
The bot is not on the toolserver? Why not? I don't get this, I thought Shubinator wrote the bot, what is it doing on Thad's personal computer? Gatoclass (talk) 10:23, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
Rlevse is talking about WikiStatsBOT, the bot that keeps track of the hooks on T:TDYK. It's run by ThaddeusB. Shubinator (talk) 04:57, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
OK, that's the correct name, but doesn't solve the problem of it being on Thad's computer or being down more often that not these days. Right now it's been down since Jun 28. RlevseTalk 09:57, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
This look about right? (The colors aren't there, that's still a work in progress.) I'll be gone for the next few days; I might be able to finish it off and file a BRFA on Monday (no promises though). Shubinator (talk) 06:03, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Very nice and thanks for doing it so quickly. RlevseTalk 10:33, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

While Thad's bot has been working the last few days, I still think we should move forward with this since his has ongoing problems and is not on toolserver.RlevseTalk 01:24, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I'll keep it on my todo list. I've been busier and busier lately. I may be able to polish it off this weekend. Shubinator (talk) 05:20, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Dendreon

Hey--Why do you keep editing out my additions to the Dendreon page? What I have written is accurate and germane. please email me at <redacted> —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.159.84.154 (talk) 20:45, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Email sent. I've redacted your email address for your privacy. Shubinator (talk) 06:42, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

DYKcheck

Can you check out my DYK check set up? I can't get it to work. I'd not heard of vector.js before, I'd only used monobook. I've been using PDAscript for prose checks. I created vecgtor.js and clear my cache, even rebooting but DYKcheck is not showing up on the leftside toolbox. Tks. RlevseTalk 12:24, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

What skin are you using? I checked User:Rlevse/vector.js and it looks fine if you're using the new vector skin. The code's not in User:Rlevse/monobook.js though, I suspect you are still using the old skin - add "importScript('User:Shubinator/DYKcheck.js'); //DYKcheck tool" to it and it should appear. (This has been confusing me too!) Smartse (talk) 12:38, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I hate the new skin. So I still use the old one. I guess you mean add that to monobook? RlevseTalk 12:43, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
That was it! Thanks! I'll update the DYKcheck notes.RlevseTalk 13:10, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
No problem, I know what you mean about the new skin - I've been away for a while and it seems to make things a lot more complicated! Smartse (talk) 14:23, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes it does, like put some nav boxes on the left of the top and other on the right of the top, how silly! RlevseTalk 15:19, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Smartse! Shubinator (talk) 06:29, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

DYK Stats

Hey Shubinator,
There has been discussion of the accuracy of page hits regarding DYK for some time now, (see here and here and some others on the page) and I made a suggestion recently on a possible solution, or at least it may help some.
I agree with Matsci and there should be more of a consensus on the subject, but I wanted to make you aware. Anwyay, let me know what you think of the idea, or any others, thank you. - Theornamentalist (talk) 12:24, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Replied there. Shubinator (talk) 05:59, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Noms and prots

At least one of those three was prot'd on Commons by me. You need to check the commons log too if you're checking these. MS prot'd another one. Any progress on getting the noms bot off Thad's computer?RlevseTalk 10:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Replied at your talk. And I'm writing the bot from scratch...and still have very little free time at all. Shubinator (talk) 05:22, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Ok, shoot me for not being perfect, I'll be more careful. Have you pointed this out to all the others that upload to queues that don't protect the pics that I caught and protected though I didn't move said hook set to a queue or do you not care about that? I'll stop doing that so you can take care of it since you do have time for pointing this out.RlevseTalk 10:36, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Replied at your talk. Shubinator (talk) 05:37, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

DYKUpdateBot

Shub dude,

Talk page notifications are appearing as month-day-year for creates and expansions and as day-month-year for noms. Not sure what template to modify but probably edit protected anyway. Thank you. Marcus Qwertyus 17:15, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Fixed. Thanks! Shubinator (talk) 03:16, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

DYKUpdateBot and image tagging

Hi Shubinator. Among other things, DYKUpdateBot (talk · contribs) tags DKY media with the {{DYKfile}} template. Most images, however, are hosted on the Commons. This tagging, consequently, creates a "shine through" - a local summary for a non-existent local file (e.g. [1], [2], [3], [4], etc.), which is something that could cause confusion when users seek to amend/update/etc. image summary information and could possibly be considered as speediable with {{db-f2}} or {{db-nofile}}. Would it be possible to adjust the bot to annotate only local files? Эlcobbola talk 18:02, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

This is intentional. It mirrors the way the Featured Picture process works; if the file exists on Commons, a page is created here with just the tag. It's very possible to tweak the bot to only tag local files, but please establish consensus first; WT:DYK would be the most appropriate place. Shubinator (talk) 04:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Well

Well, hell. I'll just stop doing them all together since you are so concerned with it. Cheers.RlevseTalk 00:21, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

possible DYKUpdateBot problem

FYI: The 18:00 (UTC) update by DYKUpdateBot began 23 minutes late and the bot appears to have run out of steam in the middle of adding {{dyktalk}} templates to article talk pages. My first guess is this may be a server problem, but I am dropping you a note in case the problem is with the bot. Would appreciate it if you could take a look at things before the 24:00 update is scheduled to run, but I understand if you are unable. --Allen3 talk 18:41, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Update. The bot has completed the update. Around 18:50 (27 minutes into the update) the bot began operating at roughly normal speed and completed the last 2/3 of the work. --Allen3 talk 19:06, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Huh, interesting. I'm looking through the bot logs, and there was a "disturbance in the force" at that time. Looks like the bot was having connection issues (whether toolserver -> internet or internet -> wikipedia I don't know). Seems like it recovered fairly well though. Thanks for keeping an eye out. Shubinator (talk) 04:13, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Sipuleucel-T

I am new to Wikipedia so not familiar with its features. I just edit the discussion page to explain my edit. Please advise. Ocyan (talk) 04:38, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Posting to the talk page. Shubinator (talk) 04:39, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Please explain why you revert the page to something that did not completely discuss the treatment? Ocyan (talk) 05:01, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Post to Talk:Sipuleucel-T and I will respond there; this discussion is getting very fragmented otherwise. Shubinator (talk) 05:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
