Punctuation

Hello, Samwb123. You made good grammar changes to the Puberty article, but I do feel that I have to point out to you the Wikipedia guideline style on punctuations before references. Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Punctuation and inline citations, punctuations should be placed before references (not after). Flyer22 (talk) 00:53, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. I was not aware of that. - Samwb123 (talk) 03:06, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

User removing from their talk page

Hey, I see you were reverting a user's edit when they removed content from their own talk page. WP:REMOVE states that this is taken as evidence that the user has read the comment/warning, so don't worry if someone removes content from their own talk page,. If they remove content from a different talk page or edits someone else's comment (even when editing on their own talk page), then that is something to revert or undo. Otherwise, don't worry. --Hadger 18:48, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Just telling you because I forgot to tell you that. --Hadger 18:53, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Warning template

FYI: my comment at User_talk:75.74.138.80 discusses the warning you issued to that IP. Subsequent discussion, if any is needed, would probably be better conducted here (or on my talk page if you prefer disjointed threads). I welcome enlightenment if I'm somehow reading the situation wrong. Rivertorch (talk) 23:50, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

First off, "In violation of WP:WW"? I think they meant WP:3RR, not WP:WW. My mistake for adding the first templated warning. 1. I neglected to look at the talk page, 2. It was an IP (what IP would know about WP:3RR, let alone WP:WW?), and 3. I was using Huggle (this is not an excuse, I just wanted to point this out). Sorry, 75.74.138.80, for adding the warnings. AWB

Hello. You recently edited Michael O'Grady, and as far as I can tell, all you did was to remove spacing round equals signs after the infobox parameters, remove spaces from within cite templates, and change the capitalisation of {{reflist}}. Please could you have another look at the AWB rules of use, the one that starts Avoid making insignificant or inconsequential edits... And another time, even if you are making real edits as well, please don't remove spacing from infoboxes or in cite templates: it makes them much more difficult to read in the edit window if the spacing is taken out. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 23:53, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your comment. 1. It was not an insignificant edit (as the AWB rules of use states that "an edit is insignificant if it is only (key phrase here) removing white space, etc." And I was not just removing white space. 2. According to this discussion, you can remove white space from infoboxes and cite templates. Samwb123T-C-@ 00:12, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I really don't see what significant edit you've done: perhaps it's too late at night for me. The only thing I can see wrong with that article is the space between citations ##1 and 2, and that's still there. If you've done something constructive that I've missed, then I apologise. However, the point about removing spaces from templates still applies, as the discussion you link to confirms. Although the meaning of the templates isn't affected by removing spacing, their readability certainly is. I won't revert again, it'd be a prime candidate for lamest edit wars :-) but I'm afraid I don't see the point of making the markup more difficult for future editors to work with just because you can. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 01:14, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

AfC submission templates

Hello. First I would like to thank you for helping out recently at AfC. I would just like to suggest not using the common non-notible templates when placing a hook on hold. These would be for articles not do not impart importance or significance of the article topic per A7 CSD rational. Both Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Mike Del Rio and Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/talhotblond both impart importance. If these were newly created articles, the least that they could be deleted under would be a Proposed deletion if verifiability failed. As these are not yet in the mainspace, and because these are users that may not be as familiar with both the policies and manual of style as some registered users, it is usually a good idea to leave a custom rational of what would need to be done to pass the submission. Again thank you for your recent help and interest. Any questions or concerns, feel free to ping me. Kindly Calmer Waters 04:40, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Siva Shankar Baba

Hi

Thank you for the time and effort to review. Can you guide me on what exactly needs to be done?

Regards

God'sFlute (talk) 04:20, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Here's how to do it:

  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for Siva Shankar Baba.
  2. Insert a sentence in the to-be article explaining why the person is notable (what achievements the person has made, what people recognize the person as, etc.), or another fact about the person.
  3. In the search you did in step 1, find a website that supports the claim you made in step 2. Highlight the address in the address bar (where it says http://yada-yada-yada.com/bla-bla-bla.htm).
  4. In the to-be article, after the claim you made in step 2, put <ref>"Title of the article you found in step 3" http://the-page-you-found-in-step-3</ref>

It's really that simple. Repeat the process again and again, and pretty soon, you have a pretty good article! If the article is good enough, it could become a featured article, and then it could be displayed on the main page as Today's featured article (article of the day)!

Happy editing! Samwb123Please read 04:48, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Siva Shankar Baba

Hi

Thank you very much. Your guidance was very valuable. I worked on implementing it.

Perhaps I will be able to keep improvising, such that it moves to the 'Featured article' page and make my wikipedia guru proud of me :-)

God'sFlute (talk) 06:02, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Just some little tips:
  • When you write an article, try to keep it in a neutral point of view. In other words, instead of saying "John Smith is the best person in the world" or "Some say John Smith is the best person in the world", say "John Smith has received recognition from numerous people around the world."<ref>Reference 1</ref><ref>Reference 2</ref>
  • Instead of typing, "John Smith has won first place in the spelling bee at Example High School.<ref>"Reference 1" http://www.example1.com</ref> He has also won the math championship at that school.<ref>"Reference 1" http://www.example1.com</ref>", you can type "John Smith has won first place in the spelling bee at Example High School.<ref name="Reference 1">(Note the quotes, and there is no slash here)"Reference 1" http://www.example1.com</ref> He has also won the math championship at that school.<ref name="Reference 1"/>(Note the quotes and the slash)". However, this should only be used if both of the Reference 1s used in the first example are the exact same reference.
  • Reference tags (<ref></ref>) should come immediately after a period, comma, semicolon, or colon, with no leading space. There should also not be a space between reference tags (<ref>Reference 1</ref> <ref>Reference 2</ref> is incorrect, it should be <ref>Reference 1</ref><ref>Reference 2</ref>).

Oh, and by the way, thank you for working on creating content on Wikipedia! Content creation is the #1 most important job here. In fact, if you do it enough, you could become a Wikipedia Administrator! You would gain access to certain tools, such as being able to edit any page including protected pages, protecting pages, and being able to block other users if they have vandalized or disrupted Wikipedia.

Thank you so much! Samwb123Please read 06:26, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

On "in pleno"

Hi! I submitted a short article on the subject in pleno, which was not accepted. The reason for me submitting it, was the fact there is a list of List of legal Latin terms. Some phrases there do not have an entry yet. I checked a plethora of articles on other phrases, that (obviously) already had an article. Just to give one example: Ab extra. That article is as short as the one I submitted and additionally doesn't even have a reference! Though it is also marked as a stub. I couldn't find a thorough reference for my article, especially not in English, so I took what I found.

I would appreciate very much if my little article (with references!!) could be published, albeit, like is the case with ab extra, and a plenitude of other Latin phrases in that article, completed with a "stub-marking". The question also arises, if the List of legal Latin terms, at all, belongs to an encyclopedia. Why did you send me a random message? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.157.152 (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

It wasn't random, it was a warning template. Samwb123Please read 23:26, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Wdefcon

{{helpme}}

Hey, I was wondering if you could help me with my wdefcon at User:Samwb123/Wdefcon? I just can't seem to get it working on my user page. Thanks! Samwb123T (R)-C-E 05:34, 18 February 2010 (UTC) (Note: My internet has been acting weird lately; don't be surprised if I don't respond. Thanks in advance!)

What do you mean? It is on there for me? Is it suppose to update itself? CTJF83 GoUSA 05:57, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
It's just not updating and working... see. Samwb123T (R)-C-E 05:59, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm sorry, please explain more. It's on low now, what is it suppose to be on? CTJF83 GoUSA 06:03, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Well... see {{Vandalism information}}. I'm just not very good at parser functions and that kind of stuff. Samwb123T (R)-C-E 06:06, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm able to change the number on that, and it updates. It also does posting updates it too. Other than that, I'm not sure how else to help, sorry. CTJF83 GoUSA 06:10, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I removed the helpme template for now. Put it back when you reply so we know to check back! --Werdan7T @ 07:04, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
VANDALISM THREAT
Severe __ __ __ __ __ (P • C)

It works when you supply |level=, but it doesn't work with just the template:
VANDALISM THREAT
Low __ __ __ __ __ (P • C)

As it is just on low. (Right now it is supposed to be on level 3). And if you do it like this,

VANDALISM THREAT
Elevated __ __ __ __ __ (P • C)

4.67 RPM according to EnterpriseyBot

It results in an error. Any ideas? Thanks! Samwb123T (R)-C-E 03:57, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Should be fixed now. Let me know if there's something you want to change. Tim Song (talk) 05:34, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
