Do you have what it takes?

  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

Re-Biography

[edit]

Had I the wherewithal to fix the Biography article, I would have. So might you favor me with whatever help you can, and I'll fix the next one. Thanks! Pendright (talk) 22:17, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly; to revert an edit you think shouldn't have been made (like that one), click on the "View history" link toward the top left of the page, and press the "undo" button next to the revision you want to undo (usually the most recent one). You will see an edit box, and a summary of what you are about to do; look it over to make sure, then click the "save page" button. If you're undoing something that's obviously nonconstructive (like vandalism or that edit to Biography), you can probably just leave the default summary, but if there's any doubt, you may want to explain what you're doing in the summary.
If any of that is unclear, or there's something else I can help you with, please don't hesitate to ask. Happy editing, Robert Skyhawk (T C) 03:59, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How to revert an edit: Thank you kindly for your open-ended response. Your words are perfectly clear but applying them is problematic. No matter what page of an article I scrutinize, I fail to locate the “View history” link “toward the top left of the page”. Which prompts me to ask, with some discomfort, what page and what link? Pendright (talk) 03:16, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear, I appear to have used the word "left" when I meant "right." I'm terribly sorry; I have a bad habit of getting those two confused. In any event, maybe this description will be more helpful: When looking at any article, locate the Search bar used to navigate to an article, located at the top right of the page, immediately below the "Log out" button. Then look to its immediate left. You should see a star, used to add the page to your Watchlist, followed by the "View history" link. Hopefully this attempt to help you on my part has been more successful. I apologize for the earlier confusion. Robert Skyhawk (T C) 15:47, 21 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Because of your modified instructions, I'm now up to the task. No apology necessary. Thank you. Pendright (talk) 02:28, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation is backlogged and needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately in need of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors and administrators alike, to help us clear a record backlog of pending submissions. There is currently a significant backlog of 1033 submissions waiting to be reviewed. These submissions are generally from new editors who have never edited Wikipedia before. A prompt, constructive review of submissions could significantly editor retention.

  4. Are you (at least) autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog.

Kinetics (Comic Book) Article

[edit]

Hello

I received an email from a 'bot' that apparently comes from your user about my article 'Kinetics' which states that it may be deleted since it hasn't been 'edited' in many months, which is true.. but.. I understood the article was not going to be approved because you felt my comic book character didn't have enough notoriety and because the comic book she has been featured on 'Femforce' didn't have an article either (at the time I sent the submission).

So.. I don't know what else to do if this situation/your opinion hasn't changed ?

Kinetics (Comic Book) Article

[edit]

Hello

How you do ? your name and link was listed as response for my submission of this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Kinetics

It's the first time I make a submission, it's the description of a comic book character that I created/own and that has been printed in the independent publisher AC Comics.

For the format of my article I used existing articles about other comic book characters, such as Supergirl, Batgirl and lesser known characters like Yankee Girl (also published by AC Comics).

I fear that I don't know how to meet the notability comment, it's a character that appeared on independent comic book publisher so it surely is not as well known as say, Wonder Woman or Supergirl, but information about the character has been created on the web which is one of the reasons to insert her profile on wikipedia.

At the time, I was unable to insert images on the article, so please let me know which edits on the content are necessary for it's approval.

Thank you

Our notability policy states that for an article's subject to be notable, it needs "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Your submission doesn't make any indication that this character satisfies that criterion; the sources you've cited are not independent of the subject. It is also important to realize that if the comic book series as a whole doesn't have an article, then an individual character probably doesn't qualify for one.
The main thing to take away here is that some topics simply aren't notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. I can't make a definitive judgement as to whether this is the case for your submission, but as it stands, it doesn't show that the subject deserves an article. I hope this has clarified the issue somewhat; please don't hesitate to ask any other questions. Robert Skyhawk (T C) 22:29, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Cto has been nominated for deletion. Template:Cto creates a conditional topic overview linkbox for the See also section of an article with links to (1) the topic article, (2) the outline of the topic, (3) the index of topic-related articles, (4) the bibliography of the topic, and (5) the Wikipedia book on the topic. Editing Matthew Asinari Article

[edit]

Dear Robert,

I would like for you to consider the "Matthew Asinari" article. I am currently writing it. However, there are several issues with the article. Other editors claim that my writing is biased and written like an advertisement. However, I don't feel this is the case and fail to see anything in it that explicitly promotes the subject of the article. Could you please be so kind as to give it a look and point me to any sentences that you feel may be responsible for the issue.

Additionally, it states that the article is an orphan article. Does wikipedia oppose to making references to the article in other articles to which the subject is involved?

Best,

Rrajan12321 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rrajan12321 (talkcontribs) 20:43, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. A brief look at the article tells me that the article is overall in fairly good shape, at least in my opinion. I don't see any statements that explicitly indicate a non-neutral point of view or the tone of an advertisement. As for its "orphaned" status, you are in fact encourage to put links to your article in places where they would be relevant; for example, the article about the advertising company he currently heads, or perhaps the "Notable alumni" sections of the articles about his almae matres. It may be helpful to try to find the editors that tagged the article in the first place and discover their reasons for doing so; I don't see any major issues, but clearly somebody thought it appropriate to tag the article.
I hope I've been somewhat helpful; let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with. Robert Skyhawk (T C) 22:18, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

[edit]

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:33, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:22, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Robert,

I am trying to post my first two articles for Wikipedia. One has been accepted and is up (The Hall Gosport Affair), and the other is pending (biography of writer, film director and conservationist Stephen Weeks). With The Hall piece, other editors have requested inline references and a shift of emphasis, and I have undertaken all this - but I just don't know how to reload the entire article. I have it as a Word file. I just need to send it to someone who can load it for me, as (I'm afraid) I am finding the Wiki system rather impenetrable. The Stephen Weeks piece - again I have thoroughly rewritten it and added inline references as suggested by an editor, and again it is all ready as a Word file. Can you help me, please, by posting these articles from my Word files? Or find someone who can?

Thank you for your help, Peter G Bastion - Bastions Bastions (talk) 11:45, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to try and make the changes to (what I assume is) this AFC submission based on your Word document. I will send you an email shortly, which will provide you with my email address. You can then send the document to that address. If this doesn't work for you for any reason, we can discuss an alternative way to provide me with the file. The Hall Affair, Gosport

[edit]

Hi, Firstly I'm sorry for my English is very poor. I edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport - originaly consist only #REDIRECT Hall Affair. But we want only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport and not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_Affair. Could you delete article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hall_Affair, and keep only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hall_Affair,_Gosport. There are good reasons why it must be The Hall Affair, Gosport not only 'Hall Afair'.

Than you very much.

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

[edit]
Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Hunting for embedded outlines

[edit]

Robert,

Assuming you still use Wikipedia occasionally, as you are reading or browsing Wikipedia articles, please keep this in mind...

I'm looking for outlines embedded in articles.

I've run across a number of these over the years. One example is the Outline of fencing, which used to be part of the fencing article.

If you know about or spot any structured general topics lists in articles, please let me know (on my talk page).

Another thing you might find are articles that are comprised mostly of lists (without "Outline of" or "List of" being in the article's title). If you come across any of these, please report them to me on my talk page. I'd sure like to take a look at them.

Happy hunting.

I look forward to "hearing" from you (on my talk page). Sincerely, The Transhumanist 07:52, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your help requested at WP:Split

[edit]

Greetings.

I'm a newbie, and I'm wise enough to say so, so pardon me if I'm doing things the "wrong" way or seem to be out of place. I'm trying to learn all I can and practice techniques in my own userspace before attempting to do things in the "real world" and inadvertently causing a big stir, as newbies are wont to do.  :-)

It seems like you were a major contributor to Template:Split to a few years ago. So it seems to me like you may be an excellent person to have in the discussion we're having on how to properly split an article, and then properly updating WP:SPLIT to reflect what we've learned. I think I'm not the only one who's a bit confused about how this template is to be used and what the final result should look like.

I'm actually an old computer geek, myself, and pretty good at writing documentation, so I can certainly help there ... but where we're weak is understanding specifically what the template is calling for.

I'll also be inviting contributors of Template:Split from to our discussion, so we can have a full understanding and agreement on this.

Thanks in advance for your help and comments!

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

[edit]
Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:01, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

[edit]

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/TransMedia Group, a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:53, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

[edit]

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup

[edit]

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

[edit]

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.
