The value of "drive by" tagging
[edit]I saw this edit [1] by you and would like to speak to you about the value of splashing a pile of tags on a two-sentence stub and just moving on without actually improving the article.
Let me start by saying that I used to do exactly the same thing. Then it came to my attention that, although it is easy to buzz in with high-speed automated tools and drop a bunch of maintainance tags on a tiny stub, with just a little bit of effort you can fix it yourself and actually improve the content instead.
For example, you added {{uncategorized}}. The article title identifies it as relating to volleyball, and the text says the event will be in Vietnam. So, Category:Volleyball is obvioulsy appropriate at the very least, but as you can see from looking at the article now I was easily able to find several other categories that applied. This article is also evidently part of a series on these championships, so I was able to find a navbox and add it, negating your {{deadend}} tag.
You also added {{stub}} to it. While that is correct, it is obviously a stub, it is much more helpful to at a topic-specific stub tag. I usually do this by guesswork. You can take almost any topic and add it to the stub tag, before the word stub, with a hyphen in between, and it will produce a template. In this case I guessed correctly that {{volleyball-stub}} would be a thing.
So, in a matter of just a few moments I was easily able to rectify all the issues you tagged for. This is obviously more of a benefit for the project than adding so many tags that there is more tagging than content in a stub. Just something for you to think about going forward. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:29, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Beeblebrox I am really grateful for your observation. I am enthused by your suggestions and I think I will consider your suggestions going forward. Regards--Rberchie (talk) 18:35, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
- Awesome. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:36, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
On a completely unrelated subject
[edit]This talk page is becoming very long. Please consider archiving.
Users using tablets or smartphones may have trouble loading a talk page this long. Up to you though. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:30, 4 August 2015 (UTC). Beeblebrox noted regards.--Rberchie (talk) 18:43, 4 August 2015 (UTC) Hello Beeblebrox I have been trying to archive my talkpage but to no success could please help out?--Rberchie (talk) 09:30, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
- I will if I can. I see you have one archive page already, but with no content. The simplest method is to simply select the sections you wish to archive, then cut and paste them into the archive page. That's what I've always done, but a lot of users prefer automatic archiving with a bot, details about that can be found at WP:ARCHIVE, or you go straight to User:ClueBot III which has directions on how to let that bot do it for you. <l>HS (schools)
[edit]I've noticed you patrolled a couple of articles of this form lately. There are quite a few, also <l>HS (high schools). You might like to have a look at a discussion that potentially includes them: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IHS (schools). Best wishes, Pol098 (talk) 21:15, 4 August 2015 (UTC) Thanks Pol098 I will look it up. Regards--Rberchie (talk) 21:41, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Stub tags
[edit]Please take care not to add {{stub}} to a page which already has a specific stub tag, as you did at Pontypool Free Press . Thanks. PamD 05:16, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Siege of Vannes (1342)
[edit]Hi Rberchie, thanks for your hard work on patrolling Wikipedia. I wanted to let you know that I noticed that you edited a page that was marked for major construction. The {{in use}} tag is designed to help prevent edits while another editor is working on a page. Other editors shouldn't edit that page within a few hours of the tag being posted. Unfortunately, you added some tags to page after only 7 minutes. Please ensure you look for the in use template before editing so that you don't conflict with the main editor. Thanks. Editing another's draft
[edit]We normally do not edit another's draft uninvited.
Exception: I actually just did, but that was to disable the categories. If you do that, consider leaving a note at their talk to say what you did. If you don't leave a note, that's probably okay too. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:15, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Anna Frodesiak sorry I did not leave a not but I did not do that uninvited.User:Celestinesucess actually asked me to do that her. Anyway your concerns are well noted regards.--Rberchie (talk) 16:10, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- I'm terribly sorry. I looked and couldn't find such an invitation. Could you point it out to me? Thanks. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:28, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Elizabeth Ohene, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ho. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Wikimedia Documentation Tool
[edit]Hi Raphael
Thanks very much for volunteering to add documentation to the Wikimedia Documentation Tool on Idealab, I'm very happy to tell you that the tool is now live here.
The bad news is that we've been victims of our own success, there are 100s of resources to add in the list of pages to add. Some of the suggestions are actually lists of resources so both the list and the individual resources need to be added and some are very vague, a lot of this is me not remembering where resources are.
Please don't run away just yet, feel free to cherry pick the easiest things to do and just cross them out on the Meta page when you've added them to the tool using the form that is part of it. Currently I have to transfer entries manually so they won't show up straight away but soon it will be at least semi automatic.
Cheers

Please don't jump in so fast to add your tags!
[edit]I have had a few new articles where I lost a lot of work due to edit conflicts caused by your adding of tags requesting more citations (which is what I was trying to do but now that work is lost). It often takes a series of edits to create new articles. It takes many minutes sometimes to lookup citations. Please wait a while to allow the new article to be created properly before tagging. Your actions are just wasting the work being done by other people to actually improve the article. For example, on North Rockhampton to Emu Park railway line you waited less than 1 minute after the article was created to add your tags. Result: all my citations and wikilinks and other improvements were lost. I realise this is probably not what you are intending by your actions, but it is creating a problem for others. Since I've lost my work on North Rockhampton to Emu Park railway line, perhaps you'd like to help fix it up instead. Also please familiarise yourself with {{inuse}} as I have seen you ignore it on some occasions. Kerry (talk) 22:46, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
