Amice Calverley

Hullo again Thanks for your message on my talk page :) managed to figure this out. Onwards and upwards with editing... Claire 75 (talk) 15:16, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Racklever Thanks for looking at the Amice Calverley page - it's my first stab at creating a Wiki page. I've put in a lead but having difficulty adding an image from Wikicommons so wondered if you could help?

The images is: thumb|AbydosSetiChapelRelief145 and my suggested caption is: 'Example of a relief in Temple Chapel of Osiris, Temple of Seti I, Abydos, Egypt' (only relevant images I can find on Wikimedia are ones of the relevant temple, and I expect although do not know if this is actually one that was recorded by Calverley).

Thanks Claire 75 (talk) 08:23, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Bremont watch page

Hi Racklever,

this is my first article for Wikipedia and I appreciate your advice about bias etc. I don't work for the watch company in question but love their stuff. what needs to be changed now? is it because I am adding links to the companies website perhaps?

really appreciate the help,

Edward Ho

Hi Racklever,

Your message: I have reverted some of your edits to the Edward Ho article as they destroyed the standard layout of the page.--

My edits mainly corrected errors. My sources is Mr. Edward Ho himself. Your reversion brought re-introduced the errors.

On the "standard layout of the page" , may I ask on what basis is this established? I removed the Legislative Council of Hong Kong box because it is factually incorrect: - The equivalent of "parliament" in Hong Kong is "legislature" - Prior to 1991 legislative councilors are appointed - The colonial Legislative Council was not succeeded by the Provisional Legislative Council, they partly co-existed (1996 - 1997)although somewhat clandestinely before the reversion of sovereignty to China in 1997 - There is no succession of the Provisional Legislative Council, it was extinguished after serving its purpose of transitioning to Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) - The HKSAR Legislative Council succeeded the colonial Legislative Council

In reviewing my edits Mr. Edward Ho did consider maintaining the standard layout of the page as far as possible, but the Legislative Council of Hong Kong box is so erroneous it was not possible to maintain.

So please understand my edits are not vandalism and reversion to maintain "the standard layout of the page" is inappropriate.

The reference given is this: [2] --Racklever (talk) 14:13, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, the reference is outdated (13 years old) , particularly regarding the honourific of "Honourable" which Mr. Edward Ho is no longer entitled to once he ceased to be a member of LegCo (since June 2000). My edits are consistent with the other historically correct facts in the reference cited. I hope this explains and I will revert the article to my edits. Wikilinking

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.

I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

(This even applies for infoboxes.)

Thanks and my best wishes.

Tony (talk) 06:35, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

My only edit to the article was to add category:Living people.--Racklever (talk) 07:47, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Al Little

Hello, I am relatively new on Wikipedia and I think I've uncovered a spoof article (Al Little). I am bringing this to your attention because you seem to be the last person to have edited it. There doesn't seem to be any evidence to suggest that Al Little was a boxer of note in Northern Ireland in the 1930's and 40's and he certainly was never a Commonwealth Games champion. This article probably should be deleted. 1982vdven (talk) 06:21, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

There was a boxer called Al Lyttle [3] but he did not fight at the Commonwealth games. I have added db-hoax to the article.--Racklever (talk) 06:33, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Al Little

Hello Racklever, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Al Little, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The last external link verifies that there was a boxer by this name (albeit misspelled) and several facts in the article, so this isn't an obvious hoax. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 10:22, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Cleanup

I just wanted you to know that I didn't intend my edit to be seen as vandalism. I know he was declared dead in absentia after 7 years or so, but many people have been missing and declared dead for similar periods of time, and later turned up alive in remote areas (such as castaways). So... if there is a possibility of him still being alive somewhere, wouldn't that make him a candidate for "possibly living"? RingtailedFoxTalkContribs 20:32, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Help

Greetings. How are you? We have never crossed paths on Wikipedia. I found you listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Watches. I created an article article about two weeks ago. It was about a watch company. Another editor tagged the article as advertisement and I followed their advice on the article (or at least I tried to follow their advice). Anyway the editor still feels that the article is an advert. Will be kind enough to take a look at it and fix the advertisement-like content? There's no animosity or hard feelings. I totally respect the other editor and he has been great with me. But his plate is sort of full with other projects and I don't want to do anything on the article. Since I have created it, I am inclined towards thinking that it's some great piece of work, which it is definitely not. :-D Would greatly appreciate your help on this Muhammad Ali Khalid (talk) 09:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Tompion.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Thomas Tompion pocket watch.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Thomas Tompion pocket watch.jpg, which you've attributed to (Site Says Non-Commercial). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:24, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Rolf Holmström is DEAD

Why are trying to resurrect Mr. Holmström, who has been dead for two yaers? Look at this article about him written after his death: http://www.visac.se/document/Visuellt%20nr%2039.pdf . Look at page 46. It is in Swedish. But there are also no referensces in English that he was ever born. So if you need that the whole article must be deleted. It is better with no article at all than an article falsely telling he is alive. --Muniswede (talk) 21:26, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Hirut Desta

You reverted my change on Hirut Desta although I was only making the Persondata template match the visible data in the article. I admit, I mistakenly deleted the 1930 birth category instead of the living category. You then went on to revert the whole article to indicate the person was still alive. However, a quick Google search shows that she did die recently. for example

I do not have any particular interest in the subject, so I am carrying on with my own personal persondata project, in the hope that you will take the necessary action. Periglio (talk) 21:08, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

If you change a BLP article to show that the subject has died then you have to have a reference such as an obituary. The persondata and infobox may be wrong due to mistaken identity or vandalism. --Racklever (talk) 21:18, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
My point being that I took a few moments to establish the facts before I made my change, whereas a little bit of effort on your part would have saved you reverting the article back to the present tense and allowed you to add the required death reference Periglio (talk) 06:39, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

BDP

Concerning this edit summary, the death is still on the "In the News" section of the Main page, and WP:BDP gives the "recent death" timeframe as the range of "six months, one year, two years at the outside", given that this is a suicide (again, see WP:BDP on that) that happened a week ago, it is still very much a recent death. This is reflected in the two discussions at WP:BLPN and the talk page discussion at Talk:Robin Williams. If you disagree you are welcome to start a talk page discussion and see if there is an agreement about this, but Wikipedia policy and the prior discussions do not reflect your reasoning. Unless consensus changes, it's a recent death and subject to the BLP policy, and you removing the appropriate template will be reverted until a consensus shows otherwise. - Aoidh (talk) 08:42, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

The current BLP policy and current consenus is to only use blp=yes for living people and blpo=yes for controversial deaths such as murders. This is a clear case of suicide so is not controversial. --Racklever (talk) 08:52, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
Do you have a link to this current consensus you're referring to? Because placing blpo on the page is inaccurate and directly contradicts the policy's wording which makes its use inappropriate (see the discussions), and your definition of controversial is not reflected by the BLP policy. So again, before removing that parameter showing that BLP applies to the article's subject (which it does), please discuss it on the article talk page and get a consensus for it. - Aoidh (talk) 08:55, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
template:blpo was obviously created by consensus for controversial deaths. Marking some-one as alive who is dead is a clear violation of current BLP policy and WP:COMMON. --Racklever (talk) 09:22, 21 August 2014 (UTC)
I don't think claiming the BLPO was created for recent deaths is obvious at all, nor does there seem to be any discussion, let alone consensus, reflecting this. BLPO is for many things, recent deaths is not one of them (also deaths!=recent deaths). Saying that the BLP policy covers the recently deceased (which is what blp=yes does) is not a violation of the BLP policy. It's not "marking someone alive who is dead", it's filling a parameter: "Is the article's subject directly covered by the BLP policy?" the answer is yes, therefore blp=yes. - Aoidh (talk) 09:28, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Stub class biography?

Hello Racklever, you rated my article on John Buckley (composer) as a stub biography. That's not very friendly. This article may be brief, but it contains everything that one needs to know to form a first opinion about this composer and get all necessary facts. The article is fully referenced. There are links both within Wikipedia and external ones. It has full lists of compositions and recordings. There is absolutely no reason to rate this article as a stub. Orphan Tag

Hello, I edited the Albert Ritzenberg page, and I found your "orphan tag". I found a page on wiki that refers to Albert Riztenberg (I didn't at first, because he also goes by "Allie") but I don't seem to be able to link it. Could you help? Amirafturazzi (talk) 16:30, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

@Amirafturazzi:, that link has been fixed already. To link is easy, all you need to do is put two pairs of square brackets around the term, like [[Albert Riztenberg]]. If the term that you link is different from the name of the article that you want to link to you use the syntax [[Albert Riztenberg|Albert "Allie" Ritzenberg]] , where the part before the divider is the actual link. Hope that helps. --Wolbo (talk) 16:45, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Edwin Hugh Lundie

Hello Racklever, You may have streamlined the 3 references to the Edwin Hugh Lundie wiki page, but in the process the visibility of citation has been removed. It source information should be clear: "University of Minnesota Libraries, Northwest Architectural Archives"

Although, I appreciate your edits, and I am new to Wikipedia with the creation of this page, your assistance on restoring the citation would be very helpful.

Thanks. Chauncy1 (talk) 14:34, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

death of Jay Appleton??

I believe it may be your entry in the article on English geographer Jay Appleton that claims he died on April 27, 2015. I have searched for obituaries, news articles, etc., on-line. There seems to be nothing so far. Did he actually die? The silence on this suggests he did not.

littlerhody — Preceding undated comment added 19:19, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

I have reverted the article to show that he is alive as there is no reference. Another editor had added a date of death and I added a "citation needed" template. --Racklever (talk) 21:48, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Reuben Greene

You deleted my edits to my dad's page. Apparently, because you can't find an obituary, he didn't die. The death certificate tells me otherwise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.98.228.1 (talk) 16:31, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

This was discussed at Talk:Reuben Greene many years ago.--Racklever (talk) 07:55, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Source language icon

Hi Racklever, I see you adding many entries to Deaths in 20nn. Where the reference is in a language other than English, could you please use the relevant language icon? For example, {{fr icon}} rather than "in French". It will help the wikignomes trying to keep all the pages consistent. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 04:40, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Can you please help the project by simply typing {{no icon}}, which produces the Norwegian icon, instead of just typing "(in Norwegian)". That's what everyone else is doing. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 00:55, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

USSR

"The Soviet Union was not a country, it was a union of countries, hence the name" - that's simply wrong. -- Y not? 15:41, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a union of republics by definition.--Racklever (talk) 15:44, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
That's about as correct as calling the Democratic People's Republic of Korea "democractic" by definition. -- Y not? 15:51, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your edits on the article, I pretty much wrote it all and it helps me greatly when someone updates the tables. What a stage it was is it? I think this is one of the most epic stages I've seen. Your help is appreciated. Mattsnow81 (Talk) 23:06, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Could you please tell me why you rated the article as 'B'? Mattsnow81 (Talk) 22:41, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
You go around evaluating other people's work (I worked my arse off for this article) and don't even give an answer when asked why you rated it the way you did? That is not very nice. I think I'm polite and nice enough to deserve an answer. Mattsnow81 (Talk) 12:20, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't go above B for articles that I have contributed towards. The article could do with a map of the complete course and has too many red links. Otherwise it is good. --Racklever (talk) 00:36, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
OK thanks for the suggestions :) Mattsnow81 (Talk) 06:42, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

re: "J. Math" page

Hello, you put a warning on the top of the "J. Math" page because it didn't have any references. It since has been updated with 7 references. Thanks for bringing the issue my attention. Please remove the warning box at your earliest convenience. Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kairaba (talkcontribs) 03:24, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

I didn't put the warning there but I have now removed it.--Racklever (talk) 04:22, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Herbert Ninaus death

I have no confirmation in the Internet except for this one: https://twitter.com/lesmurraysbs/status/592545068369641474 . Is it a good source? Regards, Gelu6 (talk) 19:22, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Twitter is not a reliable source. It's better to wait for an obituary.--Racklever (talk) 05:19, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Racklever!

I noticed that you are working with AWB. I have made a preparsed list of about 20.000 articles that contain (possible) typos that can be fixed with AWB. I'm assuming that that is a bit too much for one person, but if you want to you can do some of them. Please remove the ones you want to do from the list, so that other people don't have to look at them again. The Quixotic Potato (talk) 05:14, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry for the unintended rollback. Fat fingers! WWGB (talk) 22:38, 19 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2015 Danmark Rundt, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Struer. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please stop adding a guest blog to Daniel Quinn (actor). This was brought to WP:BLPN, there was no real consensus, and the fact that his official website still says he's alive makes the whole thing rather confusing and contentious. Until an actual obituary gets posted somewhere, we shouldn't be relying on guest blogs to guess whether he's alive or dead. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 08:54, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

It's a blog on a news site. As it says in WP:V these may be acceptable sources if the writers are professionals.--Racklever (talk) 10:43, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Racklever Thank you for your recent clean up. You added a Living people categorization. Is this an assignment by default or do you have a source? FeatherPluma (talk) 01:21, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

It's the default.--Racklever (talk) 06:27, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Racklever I see a 115 year rule applies, thank you. FeatherPluma (talk) 15:27, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

One entry from the "Deaths" subsection was removed. Because it is not WP:Notable. It was not covered by any leading national newspapers. The "Deaths" is too long and more entries may be removed in future. Thank you for your contributions but it would be appreciated if you used proper templates while adding citations. -Kenfyre (talk) 11:55, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

He is clearly notable and is included in Deaths in 2015.--Racklever (talk) 12:20, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

Citation request

Hi Racklever. May I ask you, please, to make a small improvement to your citation pattern in the Deaths section of the 2015 in Ireland article? Now, your citations generally contain only the title of the source article, with an embedded link to that source, like this example:

Gerry Duffy – one of the greats of Irish cricket

We need at least two more details: the name of the cited publication ("RTÉ News", "Irish Times", etc.) and the date of publication (or retrieved date where publication date is absent), so that the complete citation should look like this:

Gerry Duffy – one of the greats of Irish cricket, Irish Times, 2015-07-27.

The Help article Wikipedia:Citing sources contains instructions and advice on how citations should be handled, but my request for just two extra items – publisher and date – should cover it if you do not have time to read the Help article. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 04:23, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

I am currently using the short format used in Deaths in 2015 to reduce page loading times.--Racklever (talk) 07:38, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Roland Collins requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. --Non-Dropframe talk 12:24, 2 October 2015 (UTC)

Ronnie Apteker

Hi Racklever. Can I ask why you thought it appropriate to make my Ronnie Apteker page into a redirect to Internet Solutions? The IS page does not even mention him (ironically, since he was one of the co-founders of the company). I am attempting to put together a dedicated Ronnie Apteker page and would rather people discussed its rationale and content with me before making unilateral decisions, however well-intentioned. Happy to discuss. Picknick99 (talk) 12:34, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello Racklever. I see you have done some work on the Chrisopher Felver article. I did quite a bit of editing/research on this article recently and believe it is quite objective at this point. I do not think the note about it being a possible autobiography is relevant anymore. Also, the issue of links to/from the article is being addressed. I'l like to get your input.
