Disambiguation link notification for June 30
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jeffersonville station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Floridian. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Question from Winver351 (15:51, 10 July 2023)
How do I properly format an IA (Internet Archive) link? (Here is the edit I made in comparison to the previous version: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Think_%28About_It%29&diff=1164701758&oldid=1162626461) --Winver351 (talk) 15:51, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Winver351, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for identifying that dead link and replacing it. In practice, what you did seems mostly fine. The preferred way to do this would probably be to use the {{Webarchive}} template, as that standardizes the format of the link and adds the page to some hidden tracking categories for maintenance purposes. If you'd like to see an example, I updated the archive link you added here.
- Note that the process differs depending on where the archive link is. The link you added was in the external links section, which is a special case. More frequently, though, references for the content in the article will be archived. Many references use the Citation Style 1 templates such as {{Cite web}}, and in this case, the archive link can be added with the
archive-url=
parameter. There's more information about this in the second bullet of WP:Link rot#Manual archiving. - I will also post a message on your talk page with some more general helpful links. Welcome! PlanetJuice (talk • contribs) 17:35, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

On 14 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article MetroHero, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that MetroHero used to let riders know whenever the Washington Metro caught on fire? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/MetroHero. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, MetroHero), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Question from Olasiji (09:37, 17 July 2023)
Thanks for having me. What's the first step to editing Wikipedia? And also other steps involved. --Olasiji (talk) 09:37, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there Olasiji, and welcome! A good first place to start would be the Help:Introduction page. That will have a tutorial that you can walk through that introduces you to some essential basics like some of our policies and guidelines, editing articles and other pages using wiki markup or the Visual Editor, and some of the mechanics of Wikipedia. It is a bit long, so no need to go through all of it all at once, of course.
- As for next steps, that really depends on what you'd like to do. A list of some common beginner tasks is at the task center, but that is by no means all-inclusive. You can read more about each of them there. Remember that each constructive edit, regardless of its size, is important to the encyclopedia, since we have millions of readers. As long as your edits are made in good faith, don't worry too much about making small mistakes, since someone will probably correct them and help you understand what to do going forward.
- I will also post a message on your talk page (where other editors can send you messages) with some other helpful links. Let me know here or there if you have any other questions. Happy editing! — PlanetJuice (talk • contribs) 17:39, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from Aminumusbahu (22:48, 18 July 2023)
how to add photo --Aminumusbahu (talk) 22:48, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, Aminumusbahu. Because Wikimedia projects (like Wikipedia) are intended to host free content, there are restrictions on the types of images that can be used on Wikimedia sites. Where is the photo that you're trying to add? Is it already uploaded on a Wikimedia site like Commons or here on Wikipedia, or is it stored elsewhere right now? If it's already uploaded, I can show you how to add it to an article, but if not, we will need to verify the copyright and licensing status of the image to determine if it can be used on Wikipedia.
- You can reply to this message with some more information by clicking the "edit" or "reply" links, and I would be happy to help further. Thanks, —PlanetJuice (talk • contribs) 03:08, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from Iamthomassahagun (09:03, 20 July 2023)
I want to have a wiki page --Iamthomassahagun (talk) 09:03, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Iamthomassahagun, and welcome to Wikipedia. Based on your username and your edit to Wikipedia:Wikipedia is free content, I'm assuming you're referring to having an article about yourself in Wikipedia. If that is the case, understand that writing an autobiography on Wikipedia is strongly discouraged, as there is an obvious conflict of interest present that can make adhering to our core content policies difficult. Also note that not every subject is considered to merit an article. (Subjects that are notable will likely be written about by an uninvolved editor at some point anyway.) In particular, filmmakers with Wikipedia articles must meet one of our relevant notability guidelines, namely WP:N and WP:NBIO. In your case, I performed a cursory search for sources that would satisfy those guidelines and did not find much, suggesting that a biography on you would likely be deleted in accordance with our deletion policy if it were to be created. Please understand that this is not a reflection on your work, but rather that there simply do not appear to be sufficient sources to verify information that would appear in an article.
- If you disagree with my assessment of notability, please read all of the pitfalls in WP:YOURSELF. Afterwards, if you still seriously believe that you meet the criteria for inclusion, you are welcome to draft an article through Articles for Creation to have it reviewed by an independent, experienced reviewer for possible inclusion. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. —PlanetJuice (talk • contribs) 21:10, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

Question from MLINGE MLINGE (10:27, 13 August 2023)
What do I edit? --MLINGE MLINGE (talk) 10:27, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi MLINGE MLINGE, and welcome to Wikipedia! Since we're a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, you're welcome to find any article (search) that you think you can improve, and improve it! Don't be afraid to be bold and makr your edit as long it's in good faith; if someone else thinks that an edit isn't an improvement, they can simply revert it.
- If you're looking for technical instructions on how to edit, check out Help:Editing. Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article MetroHero you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. The article MetroHero you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:MetroHero for comments about the article, and Talk:MetroHero/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility.
