Image:GH web small.jpg listed for deletion

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:GH web small.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license to license it under the GFDL, or to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license. If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy push to talk 02:35, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

i admit i was a bit confused by the copyright form selections when i uploaded the image, but here are the facts : • I am a member of the band (godhead) that has a page on wikipedia. • I was trying to update the outdated band photograph on our page • i have (as a member of the band) direct permission by the photographer and copyright owner to use this image online for promotional use related to the band. ( as long as the uploaded size does not exceed 1000 pixels (in either dimension) ) • i did not find an appropriate form selection for this special copyright case in you upload form.

You dont think there is any merit in it, so you delete it. Go Wiki!

Here is a thought for you.... Exeter School predates your United States Constitution by over 150 years. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.56.69.83 (talk) 03:14, 1 April 2007 (UTC).

I'll have you know that, whether or not you know it (and you seem to be the latter), I have fielded numerous complaints from all sorts of people saying how bad the article was, and I'm inclined to agree. Now, I know that's not saying much, but since there was never a version out there that could please everyone, and it didn't seem to any more notable than the other schools in the UK, yes, I deleted it. You may want to visit WP:DRV. —Pilotguy cleared for takeoff 12:52, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I don't have a good title

Hi Pilotguy,

I am Yaron, and I am a system operator on the hebrew wikipedia. Today, I tried to revert some bad edit made by an anonimous user in the article Jaguar. Unfortunately, I found out that I was blocked as part of a range block, apparently because a bad user shared his IP range with me or something like that. In any case, I forgot my password today, so I could not sign in or ask for a new password (through "I forgot my password"). Now, I wrote a message about my situation and about the bad edit in the article mentioned in talk page. No one noticed at first, so what I did was adding a lot of "Bla bla.." to my talk page, and then deleting it, knowing that deleting a lot of text is shown bold in the recent pages text, and so there is a chance that someone will notice my message. You noticed, but you deleted my talk page, for an unknown reason. I repeated my actions, and you locked my talk page from editing, and didn't pay attention to my message again. In order to confirm what I've just said, you may look in the history and the deleted history of my IP talk page, which I linked to a moment ago. Ybk33 22:16, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Your edits to the main page

I find it unfortunate that the immediate response to my edits is that I am trying to start an edit war and acting conterproductively to the goal of the encyclopedia. Clearly, we have an essential disagreement as to the purpose of an encyclopedia, which I believe to be first and foremost the dissemination of information without the introduction of distracting or deceptive information. User:Mindspillage's edits, while clearly not malicious, have undermined that goal of an encyclopedia, filling the Main Page with images that are both deceptive and unillustrative when there is a perfectly reasonable alternative. I am aware of the current effort to ban fair use images from the Main Page entirely, but this effort has certainly neither yet achieved consensus or become policy, so its enforcement, when detrimental to the quality of the Main Page, is certainly not a good idea. While I admit that I have my own biases, as I believe the proposed policy is absurd and utterly counter to the purpose of Wikipedia, my edits are neither running counter towards the goals of Wikipedia nor intentionally contributing to an edit war. I believe that you should speak to User:Mindspillage about her attempts to enforce what is not yet policy rather than attacking those upholding the current policies of Wikipedia. —Cuiviénen 14:14, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Fair use exemptions. Consensus has long established that fair use images are fine for featured articles on the Main Page when no equivalently informative image is available (in both cases, there wouldn't be a free alternative for box cover art or for an image of a deceased person). There is currently a proposal to do away with this exemption, but it has not yet reached the consensus needed to repeal previous decisions. —Cuiviénen 21:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Closing the poll?

There was a discussion in talk about the closing of the poll. I do not think that closing with a "no consensus" is the way to do it. Dismissing 400 votes one way or another does not resolve this issue. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 02:13, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree. I think this is highly improper. We are advertising the closing of the poll at 01:00 UTC on Apr. 07, 2007, and there is no reason to close it early when votes and comments are coming in. Every comment counts, and we should not punish voters who believe our Watchlist message about the closing time. Crum375 02:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
I suggest the poll should stay open until the time and date announced on the WatchList page! --Rednblu 02:18, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
Pilotguy, I have unprotected and corrected the poll closing date as per the announcement in the Watchlist. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 02:22, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
With all respect, I think it would be very unwise for this to be closed before the announced time or by anyone other than Jimbo or someone explicitly delegated by Jimbo. Metamagician3000 05:17, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Holy hell, I was being pestered from all over on IRC to close it as it was two hours overdue. Now, I'm getting a pile-on bitchfest from five different people saying that's not the case. Exeter School

Hi,

Just a suggestion... if you want your more controversial speedy deletions to survive community scrutiny, you might try thinking of rationales from within deletion policy (preferably, the CSDs) when deleting. For the Exeter School, now at AfD, you might have tried "lack of sources," for example. Insulting the quality of the article -- when it is actually reasonably readable -- and talking of your personal frustation with it is less likely to win support than citing actual policy. Best wishes, Xoloz 14:28, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Rodney A. Smolla

Would you mind undeleting the article and talk page for Rodney A. Smolla? It was deleted pursuant to proposed deletion, and I would like it undeleted because this notable academic has announced a change in institutions that should be documented. This move was covered in the press and will further cement his notability per the appropriate standard. My reading of WP:DRV indicates any admin can do this for me without any vote. Vandal

There is someone who keeps removing the entire demographics section from various San Diego community profiles and every time I revert his edits, he removes it again. I have given the user warnings (he uses two different IP addresses) User talk:76.175.69.109 & User talk:69.236.27.110, but he still removes the demographics section every time I put it back up. I believe the user is confused to what original research is, as that is why he claims the information should not be listed on Talk:Pacific Highlands Ranch, San Diego, California. Can you please offer your input on the talk page, or take any other necessary action. Thank you very much. —Christopher Mann McKay 16:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

This user is inserting invalid material. I explained it all on the Pacific Highlands Ranch, San Diego, California page. I am uneasy about him inserting 2006 demographic figures into an encyclopedia for there was no census in 2006. This would make it original research, since people obviously had to guess how the population has changed since then. Furthermore, San Diego itself does not support the 2006 demographic claims, only the 2000 claims. This is why I told this user that he could only insert the 2000 demographics into an encyclopedia because they are the only physical numbers we have that are not "guestimates". Inserting any other information when a census clearly did not occur is original research. See the talk, there is more to review.69.227.171.236 20:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi Pilotguy.

Sorry. I tried to send a clarifying email. After I checked the block log, I realised you were not the blocking administrator; rather, you were the administrator who protected my talk page. After getting caught the user StarChild74 just said he sent a letter to the real author asking for permission, but that does not change the fact that until permission is given it still should be deleted immediately for blatant copyright infringement. --Ray andrew 14:31, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! Pilotguy! I am just wondering, you must be from Pembroke, NC so are you a Native American of the Lumbee tribe. I like to know a lot about American Indian culture especially about those who live east of the Mississippi River. Most American Indians live in the West and Oklahoma but North Carolina has a decent Indian community. They have suffered hardships from the Indian removal acts in the 1800s and 1900s. In addition, I like to fly and hope to be a pilot one day. I'm just beginning high school though! Wik2 16:40, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

autoblock

Hi Pilotguy, I appear to have recieved a block from you. Could I ask why? My best guess so far was that it may be due to me deleting the "ethics Seminar" section from Haditha Massacre, but that was discussed on the talk page and the edit hasn't been disputed in any way, also I explained on the talk page my reasoning for doing so. Other than that, i made some additions to famous marines without realizing that the article is only on famous 'former' marines. Um, i suggested a reorganization of Bear Grylls and there were a couple of borderline personal attacks(against me, not posted by me).

I really can't remember doing anything that constitutes a block-worthy offense, could you please enlighten me? the ip address is 81.151.124.255 SemperFideliS81 13:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I made the change for the update version of the wikilink script for Chatzilla which makes it work really well, just showing up as diff, I'll take a look later and see if both can be accomodated, or revert it. --pgk 06:03, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

I guess I can run Pilotguybot in the meantime, so long as I can retain the old version. // Pilotguy radar contact 20:17, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Request to protect page moves.

User SqueakBox has moved three following articles three times in the past 24 hours after I reverted his edits, explained why I reverted his edits, and told him to discuss changes on the talk page before moving the page again.

User Squeakbox has been moving the following pages:

I explained to the user that Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English, says, Articles that focus on a topic specific to a particular English-speaking country should generally conform to the usage and spelling of that country. For example: American Civil War: American English usage and spelling; Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: British English usage and spelling. Cannabis is refered to most often as marijuana in the United States, so marijuana is what these articles should use. The user told me "All the cannabis related articles use the word cannabis in the title" and then I explained that other articles are named cannabis because they are not about the United States and that articles about the United States should be refered to as marijuana.

I do not want to engage in an edit war by continuing to revert his edits, so I was wondering if you could protect the the page from being moved, or if I should deal with this through Wikipedia:Requests for comment? Thank you very much for your time and help.

apetito speedy deletion

I wrote the following comment on your talk page earlier, but it was deleted without a reply. apetito is the biggest employer in the city of Rheine and has sizable operations in at least four countries.

The article I wrote on apetito was speedily deleted, I am assuming because it was non-notable due to a lack of secondary sources on the article. However, try googling "Apetito", especially on google.de. It is clearly notable. Here is a sample of articles on the company:

http://www.meatprocess.com/news/ng.asp?id=15015-apetito-adds-to

http://www.allbusiness.com/wholesale-trade/merchant-wholesalers-nondurable/497231-1.html

http://www.unternehmermagazin.de/unternehmer_a.htm (in german)

and so on....

Could you please undelete the Apetito article?RedBLACKandBURN 22:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Please reply on my talk page, as I do feel that this article is notable. Please at least tell me the reason you deleted the article.
