Ping DYK

Hey Andy, thanks for the DYK review, I think you have to add the little green check mark, or else the promotors won't notice it. Montanabw(talk) 22:30, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Recent merging of Aus sport club infobox with Sports club infobox

Hey, there is a little bit of consternation over the recent merging of the Australian-specific sports club infobox with a more generic sports club infobox (this diff: [1]), on the basis that certain parameters (most notably 'head coach' and 'anthem') are no longer in Australian English. Presumably our options are to add new parameters to the template (as for colors vs colours) affecting the template on every page it appears on; or, return to a dedicated Australian English template. Could I trouble you to comment to the project; the discussion is here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Australian_rules_football#Club_Infoboxes Aspirex (talk) 11:50, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Hello Andy,

Howard Sandroff here. I am happy to do anything to fix the article, there were some inaccuracies in the original German which are now in the English version. Tell me what and how or where to find same, and i can provide a nice head shot free of incumbrance. Same with voice recording. How can I help you clean up the article? Thanks so much for your interest and for your wikipedia service which is obviously extensive and very laudable. ORCID

Hi saw a post on a wikimedia uk mailing list and have created an ORCHID entry for myself and added it to my wiki userpage, but I'm still trying to get my head around its usefulness. I don't do many biography articles but, if I do, how can I tell if that individual has an ORCHID number? - presumably you can't create one for someone else or that would remove the legitimacy wouldn't it?— Rod talk 16:43, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

@Rodw: Welcome to the club! No, you can't create one for them. But you could ask them, or check their website; or use the advanced search on the ORCID website. In the longer term, we'll be doing some work on the ORCID website to make it easier for people with Wikipedia bios to tell us they have both. Please don't vandalize my userpage with your lies

There was no attack. Where? Corite? Is it responsible to let flagrant untruths from biased individuals go unchecked? Hardly. I objectively pointed out that Corite's claim that she said "several sources were disparaging" must be disregarded because it was either a lie or someone who didn't understand the simple English in the 17 or whatever sources that were there, as only one, (ONE, which is not "several" by ANY definition) was disparaging and, at that, it was tongue-in-cheek disparaging merely BECAUSE it alluded to the rivalry in the VERY SENTENCE it was reference for. Not that hard to understand. Do not come to my Talk Page with your slander. You claim to have "more important things to do" than delete every other article at college humor magazines yet you have a wealth of time to harass honest editors like myself. Why don't you spend the time making wikipedia better? Look at my edit history. I improve articles. You harass people or/and make up bogus claims to justify these harassments. The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. Regarding the Hebari Article

Hi Andy, regarding the Hebari article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebari as far as I can see the piece meets the requirements for GNG. The subject has received coverage from multiple sources including print media and blogs and is well recognised with the BDSM community in Australia, Japan, the UK and the USA as noted by sources including SMPedia, Nawapedia and Skin Two Magazing along with several independent community blogs. The nature of the BDSM community is that blogs and closed sites represent the majority of the material about individuals. You will note that most of the people noted under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bondage_riggers are of a similar nature. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.200.59.30 (talk) 00:19, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Someone suggested at the Village Pump that I boldly create Wikipedia:Extant Organizations/Noticeboard, a noticeboard to discuss articles about organizations that may be subject to non-neutral editing. Basically it's the corporate version of BLPN, where both adverts and attack pages can be brought to the community for broader scrutiny. Except this board does not currently relate to a specific policy like BLPN does, except NPOV, V, etc. (though it could refer to this essay I wrote or something). You participated in the prior village pump discussion that led to consensus for Template:COI editnotice, which is now widely used. Although this noticeboard is not COI-related, I thought you might have an interest in this as well, in whether the noticeboard should be kept and/or in participating in it generally. Hi Andy, I just wrote Surat City Bus. The whole PPP thing for a city bus service makes me believe it is a potential DYK, so I was wondering if you could help me figure out what an appropriate hook would be. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 20:20, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. It sounds brilliant, although the gas powered bit doesn't seem too good. Several major cities in India use CNG as fuel with one of them using only CNG. Thanks for the help, I think I can work on something along those lines. :) Cheers, --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 21:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

West Midlands PCC

Hey Pigsonthewing. A by-election article has now been created (very much in stub form, I concede). doktorb wordsdeeds 13:37, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

WP West Midlands - needs-infobox

Hi, re these edits - you could have done that in two lines,

|infobox={{{needs-infobox|}}}
|INFOBOX_CAT=Articles needing infoboxes

see e.g. {{WikiProject Wiltshire}} or {{WikiProject Yorkshire}}. If a custom cat is not needed but the default (i.e. Category:West Midlands articles needing infoboxes) is acceptable, use just the first of those two lines, see e.g. {{WikiProject Devon}} {{WikiProject Hampshire}} {{WikiProject Hertfordshire}} {{WikiProject Merseyside}} {{WikiProject Worcestershire}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 16:32, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

About Selma (film)

You placed an 'outdated' tag on Selma. The film is still in production or post production, and is not scheduled for release until December 25, 2014. If you have specific information that should be added to the article, please make the edit, or raise the subject on the talk page. Otherwise those of us who have worked on the article must guess at what you mean. - Neonorange (talk) 20:34, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

I placed the tag because the article includes dated events, in the past, but refers to them in the future tense. This should not need a talk page explanation; nor guesswork. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:48, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
I assume good faith, but had you done that in the beginning, no guesswork - and no exchange of messages. It is an inappropriate tag; I'm removing it. 'Dated' means old information, not improper tense. Without your explanation of your use of the word guesswork is all that's left. - Neonorange (talk) 21:29, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
And to save guesswork on your part, an amplified explanation: dated means old and superseded information. - Neonorange (talk) 21:32, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
And I've restored it; "is scheduled for June 23–26" is "old and superseded". Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:37, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Well, I see some of your point. This now seems to be a discussion in philosophy/philology. The tense is one problem, and, I think, the main problem. On the other hand, WP:RS are easy for the projected shooting schedule; but not so easy about the projected shooting schedule having finished. I've edited on only one film article. However, I believe the fact that this article was published in Wikipedia six months before the film's first limited distribution is perhaps part of the problem. I think the future tense is proper as that is what the references state. It may very well be that principle photography is done, but there may not be any WP:RS more recent, and we can not draw such a conclusion. Your tag still is not really the best flag that you have found something wrong. I hesitate to get into convoluted constructions such as - it was reported in May that shooting in Selma would be done in the fourth week of June. It is not as if the World Cup schedule was reported in a Wikipedia article published in March, and by mid July there had been no update. - Neonorange (talk) 22:05, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
I do think your concerns are valid. I don't think the tag is helpful, especially for attracting help from someone who has not worked on the article. I'll think about a solution. One approach is to completely remove the sentence you mention. Then, when (if it does) a WP:RS 'principal shooting ended' appears, insert a new sentence. Can you think of a more precise tag? - Neonorange (talk) 22:21, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
tl;dr. The article is outdated. It requires an update. If - for whatever reasons - you cannot make the update, go and do something useful elsewhere, and leave it for someone who can. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:25, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
