Please stop
[edit]What you are adding is spam. You are copying and pasting things that say "our" and other promotional materials. Please rewrite them such that they are not advertisments. Wikipedia is not a propaganda machine. You wouldn't buy an encyclopedia that had PR advertisements copied off of webpages for content, so why do you expect us to take it? —WAvegetarian•CONTRIBUTIONSTALK• EMAIL• 09:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, I understand that your projects are academic in nature, but the articles you've added should still be cleaned up a bit to be more encyclopedic. OBO Foundry particularly could use some work. Sorry for the strong response to your articles, but we have a problem here with spammers and PR folks, which is what you are acting as. As for the commercial tag, it is often used as a catch-all spam tag even though it isn't completely accurate. One last thing, I urge you to remove email addresses from your articles and talk page comments. These addresses will be picked up automatically by spammers. Also, Wikipedia is copied wholesale by well over a hundred different sites, as is allowed under the terms of the GFDL, so your addresses will be spread around a bunch. If you remove them soon, they probably won't get picked up. —WAvegetarian•CONTRIBUTIONSTALK• EMAIL• 09:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Copyright problem: National Center for Biomedical Ontology
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as National Center for Biomedical Ontology, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.bioontology.org/ncbo-summary, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author to release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), leave a message explaining the details at Talk:National Center for Biomedical Ontology and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". Make sure you quote the exact page name, National Center for Biomedical Ontology, in your email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC-BY-SA), version 3.0, or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:National Center for Biomedical Ontology with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Talk:National Center for Biomedical Ontology. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:National Center for Biomedical Ontology saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Whpq (talk) 20:02, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Barry Smith.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Barry Smith.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:23, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Document acts
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Document acts requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.learningace.com/doc/419144/0121a8dbd6879d81a6ee9d78adaf5963/documentacts and http://ontology.buffalo.edu/smith/articles/document-acts.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Largo Plazo (talk) 02:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Phismith, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Document acts has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. MrScorch6200 (talk) 02:28, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Your request for undeletion
[edit]Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that a response has been made at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion regarding a submission you made. The thread is Document Acts. JohnCD (talk) 20:26, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Document acts
[edit]I understand that this term is your own coinage, and I have some concern that, unless it has been the subject of substantial independent comment, an article about it will not be acceptable under the fundamental Wikipedia:No original research policy. Before putting much effort into this article, you should read that carefully, in particular noting that it says:
"If no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, Wikipedia should not have an article about it. If you discover something new, Wikipedia is not the place to announce such a discovery."
and:
"Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any of the sources."
Other relevant guidelines are WP:NEO: "To support an article about a particular term or concept, we must cite what reliable secondary sources, such as books and papers, say about the term or concept" and Wikipedia:Notability, the inclusion criterion, which looks for "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."

Offer to email
[edit]When I posted the message above referring to WP:REFUND, I thought I had already made a response there; but I now see it is not there - I must have omitted to click "Save page" after previewing to check it. Apologies: I will repeat a slightly tweaked version below here:
Copyright is a very serious issue for Wikipedia, and I am sure you will understand that we cannot restore copyrighted material, even temporarily, on the basis that someone on the end of a wire says it is OK. I will email the text to you if you enable email on your account. To do that, click on "Preferences" at the top of the screen, and at the bottom of the "User profile" tab enter your email address (which will not be visible to me or to spammers) and check the box marked "Enable email from other users".
The way to make a copyright release is described at WP:Donating copyrighted materials, but for reasons described above I have some doubts whether this material would be acceptable under the Wikipedia:No original research policy. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:16, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Phismith. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 19:18, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Leo Zaibert moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Leo Zaibert. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it has no sources and those sources should be reliable and independent of the subject. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 22:13, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
