For your work on Lady Juliana. I was about to give up on it, but am now inspired, Whispyhistory (talk) 12:05, 25 October 2018 (UTC) |
- Thank you for noticing it. It has potential if you can disentangle the different Julianas. I will do more later. Philafrenzy (talk) 13:07, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Zaman's paper gives a good account of the tangle but pretty much concludes that its confusing. The book written by Grece gives a beautiful story but sources from mainly Bourbon family and probably riddled with family lore. I'll have another read soon too. Thank you. Orphaned non-free image File:Alumasc Group logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Alumasc Group logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:24, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
The article John Hanger (Bank of England Governor) has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —BarrelProof (talk) 20:45, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Dossibai Patell
Hi..Dossibai Patell is known in London for being the first female to be a member of the RCS in 1910. However, I have since discovered that she is just as notable with the name of "Dossibai J.R. Dadabhoy". Please can you look and advise? Whispyhistory (talk) 16:17, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
- It looks like she married Jehangir Ratenshaw Dadabhoy, who in 1911 was a textile engineering student in Manchester. He was born in Bombay, c. 1888. Hence Dossibai J. R. Dadabhoy. The article should be in the name she is most commonly known by with a redirect from the other name. Pattell seems to have as good a claim as Dadabhoy and since her point of distinction is that she was the first woman to do something it seems odd to have the article under a man's name. Personally, I would stick with Patell. Philafrenzy (talk) 20:55, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Good morning. Sorry to be picky, but are you certain that you have identified the correct William Ramsay as the father of Mary Paton Ramsay. Looking on Ancestry, I can see a Mary Paton Ramsay (born Oxford c. 1885/86) on the 1891 Scotland census living at 11 College Bounds, Aberdeen. Her father is recorded as Wm Mitchell Ramsay, a Professor of Humanities, born Glasgow c.1851. This would be Sir William Mitchell Ramsay. Best wishes. Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 10:13, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, too many Sir William Ramsays in Scotland who were also in Oxford. I identified the chemist because she is a source in Chemistry Was Their Life but you may well be right as the Aberdeen war roll (just added) states her father was William M. R. while the chemist doesn't seem to have had a middle name? Looking. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:39, 31 October 2018 (UTC)

The article Dominik Bartmanski has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No actual sourcing that helps argue notability for this BLP subject--the sources aren't about the subject (and one of them was a spam link).
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Drmies (talk) 02:45, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Dominik Bartmanski. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Softlavender (talk) 09:49, 6 November 2018 (UTC)
- Please don't remove cited relevant content. You are edit-waring with me. Please take it to talk as I asked. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:52, 6 November 2018 (UTC)

Good articles
Do you ever take your DYKs to GA level? If so, and you plan on collaborating on one with Whispyhistory, remember what I said on Sunday. Basically, here is evidence that if an article is nominated for GA, and it's picked up by TRM, they simply do not like it if anybody posts comments in the GA review, other than themselves plus the nominator. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:23, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Sarah Thompson (physicist)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Sarah Thompson (physicist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. - No, I don't think so, there seem to be two. Thanks for the expansion. I see you are using a short version of the infobox, the long version is better. Philafrenzy (talk) 20:03, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Whispyhistory: thanks but we seem to have gone from one extreme to the other now on infoboxes. I was thinking of the one in use on Edward Gyfford. Philafrenzy (talk) 20:11, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

I don't get it? Why are you adding the Category:Wikipedia vandalism category here? -- Longhair\talk 11:10, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- Whole series about it. "Matt and the team decide to do a bit of Wiki vandalism themselves, altering Nina's page to contain something entirely made-up stuff. Did it remain untouched over the course of the show though?" Philafrenzy (talk) 11:12, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. Perhaps there's a more suitable category for this kind of thing? That category is usually used to hold Wikipedia namespace related content rather than articles. -- Longhair\talk 11:14, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
- OK, but it's a whole series about Wiki vandalism and they are doing it themselves. Media about Wikipedia? Philafrenzy (talk) 11:16, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

David Hughson
"that's the most common real name quoted" - where? A number of options are provided.
"all the sources say his real name was different" - again, where? The 'Life' section says it was probably different. GiantSnowman 16:33, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- I looked at dozens of scans of his books. They almost all indicated on the title page that Hughson was a pseudonym (in pencil in the scan because they are scanned from library copies) and Edward Pugh was the most common name given. I don't know why they are so certain it wasn't his real name. I gave the others for completeness. I was thorough Snowman. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:44, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- The article should reflect that then, with sources cited. GiantSnowman 17:02, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
- It does, giving all the pseudonyms I found. The authoritative book by Adams specifically states "Hughson is a pseudonym" (p.202). Philafrenzy (talk) 17:14, 13 December 2018 (UTC)
