Nice work on this article. At first, I thought it was the good-old classic article-hijack! Always interesting to see a person I've created for one thing, but is better known for something else. Thanks! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:10, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for creating it. Oddly, this was a result of the Paradise Papers leak as he was the senior partner at the predecessor firm to Appleby. I found a pdf book listing Bermudian politicians so maybe some of them will be swimmers too. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:16, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

DYK- Marcus Beck
@Philafrenzy: Hi, I seem to forgot how to do DYK in the right way. Please check 12 Nov DYK Marcus Beck Template:Did you know nominations/Marcus Beck. It doesn't look right. Also. This was a draft and moved to article on 12 Nov. Is that still ok? Whispyhistory (talk) 19:36, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Made some small changes. I added the picture from Commons which gives you a chance of the top slot with greater views. Also the hooks are too wordy, think more like news headline, pithy and tempting you to read more. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:56, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

- It's a chance to get more views in one day than one would otherwise in a year, not to mention a peer review of the article. More scrutiny generally equals a better article even if sometimes the scrutiny is uncomfortable.
- By coincidence I am working on Danford Thomas who also saw the Franco Prussian war. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:20, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
- It's brilliant how everyone pitches in to improve the articles. My grammar and punctuation are terrible, hence I appreciate the polite scrutiny. I'll check out 'Danford Thomas'. I'm still working on John Wickham (urologist). Good to know you Whispyhistory (talk) 08:30, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

The article Tom Cox (highwayman) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Very short article, notability questioned a week ago and no reply.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PatGallacher (talk) 20:44, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Reginald Appleby
On 26 November 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Reginald Appleby, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Hello Philafrenzy. Was studying Ayurveda and Jasmine Hemsley's works when I came across your Wiki article on the sisters, and started to wonder if perhaps Jasmine might now deserve a self-standing page of her own? I began working on some words for it but am not an experienced Wiki editor so I looked you up and realised what a staggering number of pages you'd created. What a mesmerising and diverse range! May I ask your opinion then as to whether you think Jasmine would qualify for her own page or not? (I'd be happy to submit my draft to you if that's of any interest?). :-)
- I know someone has been trying to create one, you or someone you work with (a PR company?) (MangoMalcolm?) since they announced they were starting solo careers, but I don't think she qualifies for a solo article until she has established an unambiguously separate presence in the public mind and the sources. It would just cause needless duplication at this point. Anything new can be added to the existing article for the time being.
- By the way, you should familiarise yourself with our conflict of interest rules. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:22, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Ah OK, many thanks for your thoughts. (Actually I don't work for anyone I'm just a bit of an old hippy who is fascinated by the subject). Thank you anyhow for your reply and for sure I will read the suggested articles in case I want to write anything on any other subjects. Much appreciate you taking the time to reply. :-) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.211.84 (talk) 16:39, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

- Thanks...My to do list....study this in more detail. Whispyhistory (talk) 07:03, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Whispyhistory: Here's some more unsolicited advice of the type I told you to ignore:
- The first letter of article titles is always capitalised by the system but that doesn't apply in articles unless it's a proper name, e.g. John Smith was a general practitioner.
- There's no need to say "was documented" in prose, just say "was". It's documented in your refs.
- Don't hesitate to link names such as Thomas Buzzard, associations, awards, books or hospitals etc. Red-links aren't flaws, they are invitations to create new articles. Rook's Textbook of Dermatology is certainly notable for instance. They can be started with a stub if you wish. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:08, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- thanks..Buzzard looks interesting and might do one on Rook's.. Whispyhistory (talk) 15:31, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- I started the category "Physicians by hospital". It hasn't fully taken off yet but might interest you. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:21, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yes..do let me know when to look at it. Whispyhistory (talk) 12:05, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- Category:Physicians by hospital. It is lightly populated. You can create more by adding "Physicians of xxx hospital" as a category to articles and then clicking on the red link to create the category. Then just find the relevant biographies and add them to the category. Some of the hospital articles (where we have them) list notable staff but many don't. There is also a parallel Category:Physicians by medical school. You can see the top of the whole tree by finding Category: Physicians. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:46, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

- If you feel it is of a reasonable standard I suggest putting it in article space. I will look for an image. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:41, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- I have found no image. I suggest you try your medical or dental library sources. He's early but not too early for something to exist. Failing portraits, book covers, graves, monuments or houses sometimes serve. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:44, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Advice on reviewing
Please advise. I'm reviewing this Template:Did you know nominations/Otto Franke (sinologist).
- copyvio >48%
- 4 references but good ones
- I check GPQ and there are 293
- expanded 6 times on 17 Dec
- image copyright looks ok. Not sure about size.
Am I doing this right and what else do I do? The article appears to be written by a very experienced wiki writer so I'm sure its good to go and I found it very interesting Whispyhistory (talk) 19:08, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- The detailed instructions are here. My summary would be to check:
- Does the length meet the criteria set out on that page?
- If new was it nominated in time? If expanded is the expansion sufficient?
- Is it neutral?
- Is it well referenced throughout and the hook fact confirmed with an inline ref?
- Is any picture on Commons?
- Does Earwig or your manual check find any plagiarism or close paraphrasing?
- Is the hook correctly formatted and within the required length?
- Is the hook interesting?
On that specific one, I wouldn't worry about the image. It's unlikely to be used as it won't be very good in thumbnail. I will comment further on the page. I don't understand your comment that the GPQ is 293. Be clear there are two character counts - the hook has to be short enough and the article/expansion long enough. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:25, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thx, I don't understand GPQ. If I enter the user- 293 DYK reviews are listed. I copied the hook into character count- was less than 200. The article went from ~1000 bytes to more than 6000 appx. few days ago, excluding contents.reference list. The image is in wikicommons. Plagiarism is the quotes. I did think a better hook could be produced but I didn't think anything was wrong with it. Thanks for advising. What now? Whispyhistory (talk) 21:38, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- It's QPQ (quid-pro-quo) and simply means that the nominator has reviewed something else in turn (unless they are new when they get 5 free goes). So all you have to do is check that they have in fact reviewed the article they say they have reviewed in the nomination. Once you are satisfied with everything, add the appropriate symbol from the detailed instructions I linked above. This one, however, might need alternative hooks. It's down to you the reviewer but I have raised the matter on the page. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:44, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Got it. Thank you. btw..any chance of an image for Tudor Edwards? Whispyhistory (talk) 21:59, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Added the best I could find. There is certainly a higher quality version out there somewhere. Let me know if you see it. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:13, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Robin Ling
On 7 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Robin Ling, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Robin Ling. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Robin Ling), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Thanks for uploading File:Blossoms Inn by Thomas Colman Dibdin, 1854.jpg, which is another fine period image. But I notice that it has a watermark and, as this might cause trouble, we should look for a version without one. I have limited time for this myself right now so just letting you know, in case you hadn't noticed it. Andrew D. (talk) 10:08, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, I had but find no alternative at present. No doubt it will be corrected in the fullness of time. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:11, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Layouts
Dear @Philafrenzy:...This John Hunt, Baron Hunt of Fawley was a stub this morning.
- I'm not sure I'm doing correct or best way of layout.
- I did not change the first section/introduction - is it ok?
- it needs an image.
- I don't think I've entered quotes correctly
- I have however entered very useful content and there is more to come.
🙏🏻 Whispyhistory (talk) 21:23, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- I will take a look. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:12, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- See Template:Did you know nominations/John Hunt, Baron Hunt of Fawley. Is it ok? You probably have better ones Whispyhistory (talk) 19:47, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Looks OK but you appear to have forgotten to be pithy with the hooks which are both far too long. Alt1 is eye-watering and I have suggested a dull Alt. Nothing stronger as far as I can see. Pity it is only his wife who was Evill. A Dr Evill would have been great. Please add it to the project page or it won't proceed. I will take a look at the article. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:30, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Article looks OK, though the section on the founding is a bit convuluted and could flow more clearly. Quotes are not in italics unless called for by the material such as book names as part of the quote. Long quotes use a blockquote tag which you can see in use now in the article. More here: MOS:QUOTE. The first letter of job titles and similar isn't usually capitalised, e.g. fellow not Fellow, director not Director etc. Please go through and check. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:16, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- amazing, thank you. I'll tidy up Whispyhistory (talk) 06:45, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Margaret O'Flynn
Margaret O'Flynn becoming interesting. Possibly a hook on way but article needs more work and clarification of some of the pill history. please have a look and add if want. ..... DYK that in the UK, contraception for women was free only to those with four or more children until Margaret O’Flynn campaigned otherwise.???? Whispyhistory (talk) 16:58, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, definitely has potential and I like your hook - a job writing clickbait at the Daily Mail could be yours. There is also the possibility of something around "free love" as that is quite clickable too. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:13, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- 🙂I'll look/think bit more. 'free love' sounds good. Whispyhistory (talk) 07:05, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- Combines two very popular words certainly. Philafrenzy (talk) 09:54, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't do the dyk....one hook would have required 2 different sources. The source with 'free love' doesn't mention O'Flynn. Its background. Whispyhistory (talk) 20:19, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- What about that "...Margaret O'Flynn pioneered the expansion of family planning provision in the U.K. despite government worries about encouraging "free love"? Might need quite a bit of finessing in the exact wording but why waste it? (P.S. there are still some notable spelling and other errors in the text) Philafrenzy (talk) 22:41, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

DYK Reviewing
hi...few questions now and more at meet up. I'm reviewing HMS Mantua, new on 9 Jan. Couldn't see any other dyk that interested me. It looks short. I copied readable prose, no infobox/references/headings into character count - character count <1500. Is there an easier way to do this, eg like entering the article name into a tool? Whispyhistory (talk) 11:50, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- There's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shubinator/DYKcheck but I don't use it as it looks too complicated for something so simple. I just copy and paste the body text into Word. It's generally obvious if they are too short. BTW Mantua is slightly too short by my count (around 50 characters), and it looks it even without checking. Advise the nominator to incorporate some background info about owners and builders etc into the text. WP:DYKCN Philafrenzy (talk) 12:07, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

Images
Dear @Philafrenzy:.
- I really have trouble finding images. Easy when on wikicommons but I'm not confident to obtain from elsewhere. Will definitely speak to you about at next meet up. Can you help with Peter Jones (surgeon), Margaret Billingham, Richard Cattell (surgeon), Pankaj Chandak, Peter Kerley, Alex Sakula, Charles Drew (surgeon).
- I will see what I can do.
- Also, on your very long list of stubs you created, let me know which are related to medicine. Whispyhistory (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Easier said than done, there are over 4,000 and most do not state their profession in the article title. Here's a few from 2017:
- David Todd (haematologist)
- Janice Rymer
- Patricia Reynolds
- Margaret O'Flynn
- Stephen Holgate (physician)
- Edinburgh Obstetrical Society
- John Wickham (urologist) (several redlinks)
- Arjen Dondorp
- Kevin Gatter
- André Capron
- Robin Eady
This takes it back only to 2 September 2017! Philafrenzy (talk) 20:37, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Dennis Shale
- Steven Carstairs
- Paul Weindling Wellcome Trust research professor in the history of medicine at Oxford Brookes University
- Clifford Brewer
- Herbert Barrie
- Walter Sydney Lazarus-Barlow (redlinks) lost an arm due to an accident during an autopsy.
- Caesar A. von Ramdohr
I think that is all from 2017 excluding biologists, dementia and autism specialists, etc. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:06, 2 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thx, will see who/what interests me - possibly Edinburgh Obstetrical Society next or someone who worked on malaria. I started Clive Lee (engineer) too if you can check. Whispyhistory (talk) 04:53, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- Did all the images apart from Pankaj Chandak who is living (you need to meet him and take his picture) and Peter Kerley where there was nothing suitable. If you are wondering why some of them aren't the best, it's because there isn't always a good one available. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:03, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- Re Lee - looks sound but you forgot to add any categories. Enable HotCat by going to Preferences/Gadgets if you have not already. I generally always start the talk page too by adding one project - bio or medical work here. Your lead in a longer article like this (above a stub) should stick to who he is and why he matters. The second sentence of the lead is confusing and too long and seems to combine two points. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:22, 3 January 2018 (UTC)
- I seemed to have missed reading this message. Sorry. I had another look at list above- Clifford Brewer. I found one biography but not sure of reputable source. Lovely story anyway. Whispyhistory (talk) 17:50, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- I can bring the obit from The Times tomorrow if you want it. Also Ling. I try to cut them out and keep them. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:12, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- sure. see you tomorrow. Be prepared for lots of questions 🤓 Whispyhistory (talk) 18:52, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Help a professional historian
Can you help User talk:HelenBynum- They came to wiki event and are keen to contribute: I think I have found a mistake on a wiki page, but I cannot work out to the make a note about this for someone else to check.
Its the London Chest Hospital entry - the montage image is of the Royal Chest Hospital aka the Royal Hospital for Diseases of the Chest, City Road, the LCH was in Bethnal Green. Whispyhistory (talk) 21:10, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- If you are sure you can just remove it. Even better, as there does not appear to be an article for the RCH why not start it then you can use the image there? Philafrenzy (talk) 21:18, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- thank you, I may take a look too. Whispyhistory (talk) 05:44, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Ok, I can double check myself and think about starting a RCH article, but not immediately, should I just leave things as they are for now? Thanks Helenhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:HelenBynum— Preceding unsigned comment added by HelenBynum (talk • contribs) 14:17, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
- If you are sure it is the wrong hospital it is better to remove the picture and leave an edit summary of "different hospital" or something like that. Then just make a note of the place where the picture can be found when needed. Philafrenzy (talk) 14:31, 16 January 2018 (UTC)

- It could do with tightening and a bit of a polish but I like the hook. I revised it to give it a strong Canadian tone. There's also the possibility of something around being born in Eden but living in Preston, but that might offend the people of Preston. Philafrenzy (talk) 19:45, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
