F. Scott Fitzgerald

[edit]

Hi Peter, I saw you tried to redirect the article F. Scott Fitzgerald. Wikipedia has a policy called WP:NAME about what is the proper name for an article. Since all of Fitzgerald's books, such as The Great Gatsby, were published as "F. Scott Fitzgerald" this is what the name of his article should be. --JayHenry 03:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your recent additions to the Deaths in 2007 section. For future entries, could you please place the name of the deceased in alphabetical order within the date of death, and not at the bottom of that date? Also, where the citation/reference is in a language other than English (for example, Spanish) please add (Spanish) after the citation. Finally, if there is not a Wikipedia article about the deceased, please consider starting one, at least a stub. Redlinks are generally deleted after one month. Thanks, WWGB 06:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Juan Núñez de Lara

[edit]

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to do. Do you want to write an article about this person. If so, just write over the redirect. You don't need to delete the redirect to do that. There was a double redirect which was now fixed but other than that it looks Ok, I think. Let me know what you want to happen and I will see what I can do. -- Mattinbgn\talk 05:34, 30 January 2008 (UTC) OK, makes more sense. -- Mattinbgn\talk 00:53, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I think this is the most tricky list. What I do is the following: I make a little research. I search for the name in red and, if it is a different person than the name in blue, I strike the name giving a short description of the two guys. If I see that many books or media just use both writings for the same person I create the redirect adding {{R for alternate spelling}} in it. Other users, with more knowledge, in the first case, the create an article for the person in red. I think I did that only once or twice so far.

If both links are blue or red please feel free to remove them from the list. Let's go hunting! -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Philip Robinson (musician), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Philip Robinson. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:25, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Caraca is the form under which Guadalajara is known in some ancient texts. Some editors are pushing their POV negating any Iberian or Latin foundation of the city, ascribing it solely to the Arabs, but alas for them, works predating the advent of Islam prove the contrary. I have restored that text which had been removed. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Polly Toynbee

[edit]

My comments that after spending time working on minimum wage Ms Toynbee returned to her well paid lifestyle are a fact - in what way is it unconstructive, other than presumably not being to your taste. Surely the fact that she always knew she would return to her wealthy lifestyle has a direct impact on her capacity to empathise with those who have no choice but to live on such low wages? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.168.124 (talk) 09:50, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have read the neutral point of view article on several occasions - I stated a fact, maybe the "as she always knew she would bit" could be construed as biased, but it is an indisputable fact that she ultimately had the luxury of returning to a highly paid job, unlike her temporary colleagues. In fact I'd go so far as to argue that by attempting to remove this sentence, YOU are the one guilty of bias 86.143.168.124 (talk) 09:56, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How can a fact violate it? Please show me which section? As far as I can see, I made a statement of fact, or are you trying to claim that she stayed in her low paid job? Had I said something like "She ultimately returned to her high paid job, proving that she is not really in a position to comment on others lives, then fair enough, but I simply added that she did return, allowing the reader to draw their own conclusions - letting the facts speak for themselves in fact, as per the NPOV guide. Please explain to me how I have shown bias, and where in the guidelines it suggests I am in breach of them, otherwise I will revert the edit 86.143.168.124 (talk) 10:07, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm letting the facts do the implying, as advised by the guildlines. 86.143.168.124 (talk) 10:14, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So now you're changing your argument? I thought you told me it was because I was in violation of NPOV guidelines, now you claim I'm repeating already stated facts, so which is it? I suspect what I've actually done is added a fact that was not to your own personal taste? Fair enough, why didn't you say so? I will leave the article as it is. 86.143.168.124 (talk) 10:23, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, so presumably if I find verifiable sources elsewhere commenting on this situation, along with recorded sales figures for the book she published on her experiences then you will presumably leave that alone? 86.143.168.124 (talk) 10:30, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hola Peter!

--Paleofreak (talk) 17:51, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Guelaât Bou Sbaâ municipality

[edit]

Hi. I'm working on WP:RLR, fixing some red links, and I stumbled upon two Algerian articles: Bouchegouf District and Guelaât Bou Sbaâ District. My question is: both districts appear to contain Guelaât Bou Sbaâ municipality. We are talking about two different municipalities with the same name? Or is this a mistake? Thanks for your help. --PeterCantropus (talk) 04:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My fault... it should be Bouchegouf municipality, thanks for telling me! --ANONYMOUSPUSSY 09:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain more fully...

[edit]

You proposed Kenyan captives in the war on terror for deletion, based on WP:NOT#NEWS. I checked. It says:

Routine news coverage of such things as announcements, sports, and tabloid journalism are not sufficient basis for an article.

Surely information about the use of the highly controversial technique of Extraordinary rendition can hardly be described as "routine".

Wikimedia Stories Project

[edit]

Aloha!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:48, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Control copyright icon Hello PeterCanthropus! Your additions to Hard Cell have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 02:39, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Das fidele Gefängnis moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Das fidele Gefängnis, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
