I would like to thank all of those who weighed in during my second request for adminship which was successful (130/0/0). I am very grateful for all the support that various editors gave me and will thus avoid spamming their talk page with thank you notices.

Stanley Cup FAC

I've left a few comments about your objection on the FAC, just so you know. Evilclown93 19:16, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

TeckWiz's RFA

Hey Pascal.Tesson. Thanks for commenting on my unsuccessful RFA last month under my old name, TeckWiz. I'm now known simply as User:R. I've been very busy lately which is why you're getting now. I will use your comment to help improve, and I hope to keep helping and improving Wikipedia alongside you. --TeckWiz is now R ParlateContribs@(Let's go Yankees!) 16:59, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

McCarthy Formalism

I started this page when I ran into it in Minsky (1967) -- plus I remember hearing about the "McCarthy Formalism" in the early days of computer science (i.e. early 1970's). But I could find virtually nothing about his "Formalism" in the Dartmouth library (I was hoping for a textbook that went beyond Minsky). What I did find (some of McCarthy's papers) I couldn't fight my way through, and after a while I deemed it wasn't worth my time: the whole thing seemed to boil down to the use of the "Case" function of Kleene and a few other premises (successor, identity, etc) to form a basis for machine-based recursion. I'm sure there is much more to be said, so if you know something about his formalism please add something to the page. wvbaileyWvbailey 20:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

That gauntlet

So when do you think you might be willing to re-run it? Need a nominator? I looked over your old RFA and I think you'd pass now. -- nae'blis 15:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Photograph of Denis Brière

It would be helpful if someone could take a photograph of Denis Brière and upload it to http://commons.wikimedia.org so that it could be used in the English and French Wikipedias. There is a stub article about him, without a photo, in both the English and French Wikipedias. --Eastmain 20:30, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

re:thinking ahead...

That's probably thinking quite a ways ahead, mind you, since there will be a new db dump in a couple of weeks (all things going to plan), which will likely throw several thousand more into the mix for uncat-May or uncat-June. But sooner or later, here's hoping... Partially or "uselessly" categorised articles is certainly also an interesting avenue, though I'd tend to be in favour of keeping them in "topically uncategorised" subcats, rather than the main one, even it's something as hideously broad as uncat-bio. That sort of cat would be readily populable, though I don't want "supply" to get too ahead of "demand". But if specific topics get the OK from either the corresponding WPJs, or from people at WP:UNCAT who be interested in working on a particular axis, then certainly. Alai 00:16, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Just a little reward for your contributions!

New Article On Hand Hygiene

If this article is advertising then I do not know what is advertising and what is not advertising. This article is not advertising and future articles I write for Wikipedia will not be advertising. They will certainly be informative. I believe I was unfairly tag as a person who writes advertising because I wrote an article (Germ Out) following the format of another article that was already written (Purell) and on Wikipedia. No one has bothered to explain to me the difference in the two articles. In addition, I wrote another article (alcohol rub) which was not advertising and only had a picture of an alcohol rub (Germ Out). This also followed the format of a previous article on alcohol gels with a picture of Purell. Why is Purell allowed to have advertising and other products are not allowed advertising on Wikipedia? Is it because Purell is the product of the multinational companies GOJO Industries, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson? --JSHibbard 18:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

RE Tenebrae's RfA

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that there are concerns about this candidate. If the RfA were borderline, I would probably vote Neutral. However, given that it looks like the RfA is likely to fail anyway, I wouldn't think it was fair if it were to snow because of the large number of anti-canvassing votes. As it's very, very unlikely at this stage that the RfA will pass, it's a fairly academic question anyway. Walton Need some help? 09:47, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

You moved the page Mangalore/Educational Institutions to this current location. I have placed it in a subpage to Mangalore since it was adding clutter to the main page. At the same time I didn't want a new pager for Education Institutions of Mangalore. I felt it not required, just like I had made a subpage for Mangalore/Notable people;-) They didn't require a new main entry either.

Okay so my question is does having a sub page to a main entry /Subpage, treat it like new entry or not? This is because I feel educational institutions in Mangalore doesn't its own page, since pretty soon someone is going to come along an put a "merge this with Mangalore" tag;-)--PremKudvaTalk 05:52, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi! You reported a user just now that you warned, but I removed the report. The problem is that he hadn't actually vandalized after your warning, but on the same minute. We can't know if he saw the warning or not, but he hasn't vandalized since. If he does vandalize again, feel free to re-add the report. Keep up the good work! · AndonicO Talk 12:55, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

They both have test4 warnings now, I'll block at next vandalism. I'll watch the species page too. · AndonicO Talk 13:04, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Just a little question....

On my RFA you said that I ought to withdraw my RFA - what is the correct procedure to do so?

Hasek FAC

The page has undergone some copy-editing since your objection. Can you take another look at it? Thanks. Sportskido8 19:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

My RfA

I didn't really think I had the experience. Someone nominated me, and I decided to go through with it. Thank you for your advice. Sahmeditor 21:56, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Heh

I came here to tell you you could just handle copyvios yourself instead of posting them to WP:CP (regarding Stephen Cochran) and was stupefied to see that you are not an administrator. What gives, man? --Spike Wilbury 04:54, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes I see what you mean. Well, given that there is some distance between you and that RfA, maybe it's time to try again. There are maddeningly large backlogs and we could use someone of your experience. Consider trying again and let me know - I would be willing to nominate you. --Spike Wilbury 05:20, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad to see your RfA. Good luck; it looks to be going very well. --Spike Wilbury 16:55, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey dude, why are you deleting my Joe ayoob stuff.

Leave my Joe ayoob page alone!!! He was a quarterback for the cal golden bears. I dont care if you are some wikipedia editor, just stop being stupid and annoying and leave the stuff that I do alone! Pascal Tesson you stink! And you are Annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My RFA

Many thanks for your support at my RFA. It ended successfully and I am now a glorified janitor. If I can be of any assistance please don't hesitate to contact me through my talk page. Happy editing! Ocatecir Talk 18:07, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations

On this go round you recieved unanimous support, so keep up the good work. I'm particularly impressed you didn't change your statements of intent around images just to satisfy a few people. Spend some time on the admin reading list and re-read the policies before acting. Of course don't hesitate to ask questions if you unsure, those are easier to handle than big mistakes. :) Have fun, and again, congrats. - Taxman Talk 12:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

Hey! About time. I would have supported in similar fashion to your last but I missed it. I don't go to RFA but once in a blue moon.--Fuhghettaboutit 06:56, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Regarding WP:BK, the former may unfortunately (alarmingly?) be true, but I like your second possibility! Let me tell you what I see coming down the pipeline. I don't know if you're aware but a rewrite of WP:N has been going on for months. They have, in my opinions, half eviscerated it (a few of my thoughts here). Once that's done, I expect every guideline which echoes the old WP:N language is going to be or attempted to be changed to conform to the new language.--Fuhghettaboutit 16:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
Agree 100%. It's just exhausting. So many cicrular and intractable positions and the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I thought about getting involved but decided to go do something useful rather than get bogged down because; it is a morass.--Fuhghettaboutit 17:02, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I notice you have been involved in editing this article, so I thought you may like to know that I nominated it for deletion. If you want to offer your opinion, please go to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emergence phenomenon. Thanks, --John24601 17:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks and asking for help

Hi Pascal, thanks for your comments. I jsut would like to discuss why I tagged those articles and ask for your opinion.

Fabrício Carpi Nejar and Marcia Theophilo created their own pages and just put their works there. No further activity, no ghits. The creators only added those original contributions to wikipedia. For me it just looked reasonable that it was a very sneaky way of advertising themselves. What would you find more appropriate? A prod...?

About Julio Cézar Ribeiro Vaugham, there is definitely a COI since the person who added him is a relative - please notice how the creator added articles about all the relatives in his/her family (Ivan Lessa, Elsie Lessa). But I agree he may be more important thatn what he looks in the article, since his pen name was Julio Ribeiro and this is in another article. I will remove the prod and suggest a merge. Stellatomailing 23:05, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments. About Fabrício Carpi Nejar, I would say almost all the links are from trivial sources, but I will leave it there asnd ask for an Afd eventually. Same applies to Ms. Teophilo. Thanks!Stellatomailing 23:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Another question: sometimes I see academics with hundreds of articles and dozens of books, (what would be even expected after a long tenure), but no awards, mentions by prominent sources or citations in other works. Just the sheer number of citations is enough to assure notability? How would be the best way to approach those cases? Stellatomailing 00:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
