Hospitalized for Wikistress!!!!!
I am suffering from wikiburnout and chronic Wikistress.

And real life is very much in the way these days.
I probably won't be able to log in as frequently and contribute as much as I would like. Messages left here probably won't get a quick response as before. Your patience would be very much appreciated.

Take care, everyone.
Happy editing.

DYK thanks

[edit]

Thanks for noming the Bhumibol Dam and Sirikit Dam at DYK. I just nom'd my first article in awhile, Gleno Dam, and realized I missed a few of the recent ones. Little did I know. I haven't worked in DYK in a few months.--NortyNort (Holla) 10:51, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, NortyNort. And welcome back! Looking forward to seeing more of your dams on MainPage. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 03:20, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sign of the Kiwi

[edit]

Hi PFHLai, first of all, thanks for all your good work on DYK. I see that you've just started putting Prep 4 together, with Sign of the Kiwi as the lead item. Thanks! I've just edited the article and replaced two photos, as I've found much better ones on Flickr where the author was happy to change the licence. I don't really want to go into the Prep area and change a photo for my own article, so you might want to have a look at these yourself:

Thanks for your consideration. Schwede66 18:33, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nice pics! Thank you for uploading them and for letting me know, Schwede66. Your favourite pic is now on P4. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 18:41, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nuclear policy of the United States

[edit]

I just got lucky and noticed you moved the article Nuclear policy of the United States to Prep Area 3. Is there a reason why the image was omitted? With the newly proposed "Alt 3" hook, we had hoped that the image would be appropriate and give a little bit more visibility to this excellent article produced through WikiProject United States Public Policy under the Wikipedia Ambassador Program. We couldn't provide an image initially because we couldn't come up with a way to work an image in with the hook. Is it possible to reconsider, even if it means delaying the DYK slightly? – VisionHolder « talk » 04:57, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problems, VisionHolder. I'll move it back to T:TDYK. We can use the hook later. Thanks for letting me know. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 05:00, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, and sorry for the extra work. – VisionHolder « talk » 05:05, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Prep

[edit]

Thanks for the catch, I seem to miss those frequently! And I understand the comments on my talk page, the admin that commented above asked "why" I had added eight instead of seven and I answered. I also noted I wasn't aware of the newer consensus. I will, of course, abide with the newer consensus now that I am aware of it. BelloWello (talk) 01:35, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, BelloWello. Please be encouraged to make use of the preview features in the prep and queue areas. I find them quite useful to decide if a hook set has the right length. Hope this helps. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 01:41, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, BarkingMoon. I'm not sure what you mean by "have the decency to". If I had thought it was necessary, I would have left you a note. But that was a very small thing that I did not see the need to bother you at all. Hope this helps clarify things. Take it easy, pal. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 02:27, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Earl Best

[edit]

The DYK nomination for Earl Best appears to have been removed from T:TDYK in this edit, but doesn't appear to have been migrated. The editor who made the nom is relatively new to the process and it appears that the issue raised about sourcing the hook has been addressed. Please let me know what can be done to get this hook approved and migrated. Alansohn (talk) 18:40, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Alansohn, for pointing this out to me. {{Template talk:Did you know/Earl Best}} was removed from T:TDYK by me by mistake. I have just restored it to T:TDYK. The nomination should get evaluated with the rest of the noms on T:TDYK and moved to queue as usual. Review has already started by Panyd (talk · contribs). Pls contact Panyd directly about getting her approval. Hope this helps. --PFHLai (talk) 03:33, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Somehow...we appear to be the only administrators updating the queues on DYK and I'm still learning at this. How can we make the process more efficient/better? PanydThe muffin is not subtle 01:02, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My dear colleague at DYK, I don't know where everyone is. Maybe the summer weather is extra-nice these days and all the other admins have gone outside to play.... (Or spending too much time on Talk:MainPage or WT:DYK debating....) Anyway, since you asked, here are a couple of ideas regarding DYK queues:
  1. Pls sign with ~~~ instead of ~~~~ in {{DYKbotdo}} at the top of each DYKQ. Otherwise, the DYK bot will post the DYK credits on your behalf with a second time-stamp. You don't want your signature next to two time-stamps with different times and dates. (example)
  2. Please check set length. Wordy hooks and brief hooks don't take up the same amount of space on MainPage. We should preview to make sure the sets on DYKQ to appear on MainPage on the same day occupy roughly the same space. Otherwise, we would be forcing admins in other sections on MainPage do extra work just to avoid messing up the layout. We don't want a short set of hooks with blank space underneath in the morning, and a long set of hooks with blank space under the anniversaries in the afternoon.
Hope this helps. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 04:28, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

These days, I am having problems accessing the internet (using a borrowed PC right now), so I won't be able to help much at DYK or anywhere in the wiki. Please check that your nominated articles have at least 1500 characters of prose. HAH looks a little short. Anyway, good luck.

HD 85512 b

[edit]

You were right here regarding the sourcing. But now, the bit about Southern France in HD 85512 b is reliably sourced from La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno [1]. Suraj T 06:15, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good to know about the new ref in the article. Thank you, Surajt88.
BTW, the accessdate in the edit which added the new ref to the article earlier today is probably not reliable. I don't think anyone can really access future issues of a daily publication weeks ahead of time. Or maybe I am just not up-to-date about the latest technologies....  :-)
Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 23:17, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I dont think I got you here. You are probably referring to the date on the top left hand corner of the page. It seems to be a typo to me. The article begins with: (ANSA) - Rome, September 2 - A team... and the bottom of the article shows Sep 2. Did I miss something?? Suraj T 04:25, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I just find "...|accessdate=July 28, 2011}}</ref>" very strange here, for a news item dated weeks after July 28, 2011. Maybe I am reading too much into it... Never mind. --PFHLai (talk) 04:37, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I spotly add articles on Italian or European Renaissance paintings here, and when I stumbled into Parmigianino portraits I got amazed for their quality. You're welcome, Attilios. Yes, Parmigianino's paintings were astounding. Your wikiarticles can help promote him. :-)
Please be reminded to put in some footnotes. They are required for DYK. I tried to put in some in Gian Galeazzo Sanvitale, but I don't know Italian, so I couldn't do much. Thanks. --PFHLai (talk) 14:53, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Ciao! I didn't know if in the end the Portrait of Galeazzo Sanvitale surfed up in the DYK... What do you think to propose this instead? I've this nice face on my Credit Card and I decided to add the article, discovering further magnificent Parmigianino mastermanship in fashion depictions. Also funny how in the past people got easily disguised... Truly interesting. Ciao and good work. --'''Attilios''' (talk) 07:48, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another nice painting, eh? Great. Thank you. The DYK nom is here. It's interesting that the "turban" is so prominantly featured in the header on every webpage at Parma's official tourist information portal.
The portrait of Galeazzo Sanvitale has yet to get on MainPage. It's a double-hook, and the lack of footnotes in the subject's wikibio is holding things up here. If you can, please help put in some footnotes as required per DYK rules. Thank you. --PFHLai (talk) 16:04, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it seems they're starting to consider it the city's symbol. I've never been in Parma, just received a work proposal there in 2008 but did not come true. I'm starting to mumble if to visit this nice city next October... I was thinking to Piacenza first, but changed idea. Ciao e grazie! --'''Attilios''' (talk) 18:13, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you have some good refs about this feature from the Parmigianino painting becoming Parma's city symbol, please mention this point in the painting's wikiarticle. Seems to be great DYK hook material. :-) Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 19:41, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview with Wikimedia Foundation

[edit]

Hello PFHLai? I hope you're well. I'm a Storyteller on the fundraising team at the Wikimania Foundation. In preparation for the 2011 fundraiser this November-December, I'm interviewing Wikipedians who contribute significantly to the projects. In the past, we've relied pretty heavily on Jimmy to carry the fundraising burden, and while his appeals have done very well, he alone doesn't represent the multitude of content creators on Wikipedia. I'm curious if you would like to interview with me? I would hope to speak with you for about 60 minutes and would ask you a number of questions about your personal experiences editing on Wikipedia and about its impact more generally. If you are inclined, please email mroth (at) wikimedia.org. Thanks! Matthew (WMF) 00:15, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Matthew. Thank you for the invite, but I'd rather keep a low profile and be invisible. I am on wikivacation, anyway. May I suggest you pick a few prolific contributers on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs? Or people like Raul654 (talk · contribs) and Howcheng (talk · contribs) who are responsible for many good things on MainPage for the longest time? Hope this helps. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 21:11, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing PFJLai, I've been scouring that list and some other good ones. I really appreciate your recommendation of Raul654 (talk · contribs) and Howcheng (talk · contribs). Hello PFHLai, Thank you for nominating Mercedes O. Cubria and Diego Archuleta for "DYK". Your awesome contributions to Wikipedia speak for themselves and your nominations are appreciated. However, I am requesting that you please withdraw both nominations since there are variuos issues with them and I know how these things drag on and on. I appreciate everything that you have done. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:10, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Tony. The noms have been withdrawn as requested. Pity... Your work deserves the spotlight on MainPage. Sorry that things have turned out that way. Please keep the good wikibios coming. Thank you. --PFHLai (talk) 04:44, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It is a pity. Diego Archuleta was looking good. Oh well. The Interior (Talk) 04:58, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I know .... Anyway, thank you for your help in the article. Happy editing. --PFHLai (talk) 05:10, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you so much. I agree with you that both articles should have been in “DYK”, but when it got to the point that my “offline” citations be checked, I felt that my good-faith and integrity were being questioned and for me that was totally uncalled for. Thank you once more. Tony the Marine (talk) 15:23, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome, Tony. I must say that these reviews can sometimes be a bit too much to handle. Please don't take it personally. This little crusade is not targeting you at all. --PFHLai (talk) 08:29, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Can you please review this Template:Did you know nominations/Wiki Conference India. Thanks -- aηsuмaη :) ༽Ϟ 06:38, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Pgallert (talk · contribs) has taken care of the review already. --PFHLai (talk) 08:15, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes now the review is done. But the hook says ...that the three day Wiki Conference India is running from 18th to 20th of November at the University of Mumbai? And It is not even in the Preparation Area. According to hook, it should be on main page either 19th or 20th. So please help. Thanks in advance. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 18:46, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, there is a straw poll going on at Wikipedia talk:Did you know about whether or not to enact technical changes to DYK tools. Your input would be much appreciated. P.s. Tilde after tilde after tilde

[edit]

Argh! Used to be, when I approved a DYK queue, I assiduously copied-and-pasted the {{DYKbotdo|~~~}} from the Queue header page. Lately, however, I said to myself "Wouldn't it be easier just to type that string at the top of the page?", so that's what I've started doing. To my aging eyes, ~~~ and ~~~~ look pretty much alike, so I was typing 4 tildes. Thanks for pointing out the error of my ways... --Orlady (talk) 01:51, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your improvements to the Diamond Jubilee article, which I had recently expanded. I like the new image, as DJ looks slightly menacing in his hood: this is appropriate as he was probably considering whether or not to attack the photographer. You're welcome, Tigerboy. It was just a small addition. I'm glad you like it. Thank you for expanding the article. I've nominated it for DYK. You can see the nom here. I hope DJ gets to show his manacing look on MainPage soon. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 18:23, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Daniel O'Rourke DYK

[edit]

The winning time for Daniel O'Rourke's Derby is a bit "iffy" as a DYK as there is a conflict in the sources. It was either 3:20, which would be by far the slowest, but seems hardly credible OR it was 3:02, which would make it the equal slowest. Looking into it even as we speak. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 12:05, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

sorry, it was definitely 3:02. Actually that was the second slowest: the slowest was Ellington's 3:04 in 1856. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 12:19, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear PFHLai,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DYK reviews

[edit]

Hi. Can you review some DYKs? You've submitted more than five, but there is no indication you are reviewing them as per guidelines. --LauraHale (talk) 21:59, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Laura. QPQ reviews are for self-noms. I don't nominate my own articles. So I am not required to review any hooks per guidelines. Also, I spend more time building hook sets in the prep areas. If I review any hooks, I am not supposed to move them to prep. I am already not supposed to move my own noms, per guildelines. We are already short on hooks these days (hence my nominating slightly older articles when the article creators don't). If I review noms, I will have even fewer hooks to choose from. Sorry. --PFHLai (talk) 22:13, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you comment to say that on your submissions to offer an explanation as to what is happening? I've ended up reviewing about four of yours recently, and several of them were past the date... including one that was posted today for an expansion on the tenth. As a reviewer, seeing about four with late comments, seeing no reviews, it feels kind of disheartening. :( Can relate to your problems in general. (And sorry to be short. Just yeah. It kept appearing and appearing.) I'm trying to work on about 20 articles on my user space to take to DYK later this week so I'm trying to get reviews done to make sure I can nominate them. --LauraHale (talk) 22:28, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I posted on a couple of my nom templates to explain that it's not a self-nom, so a QPQ review is not required.
10 days? That would be too old even by my lax standards. DYK is meant for new additions to the wiki. 7 days may be okay. I rarely stretch the limit to more than 8 days. If you are referring to this nom, then I have to clarify that the article was originally nominated on a different template 10 days earlier. That original hook did not work out. The nom you reviewed was a second nom, rather than a late (first) nom.
I am aware that you have been quite productive at DYK. Keep up the good work, young lady. Looking forward to reading more of your wikiarticles on DYK. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 04:45, 21 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Borsig Palace

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Borsig Palace at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Ishtar456 (talk) 21:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone else reviewed this several days ago and stated that the hook was not cited and I check it and it is not cited. I just thought I'd let you know.--Ishtar456 (talk) 21:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Ishtar456. I left a note on the author's usertalkpage asking for an extra footnote last week. The author, however, has not made any edits since, so (s)he may not know what is going on. All we can do right now is wait.... I have a few older noms to worry about. I'll get back to this nom soon. Thanks, again. --PFHLai (talk) 22:04, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My Attempt

[edit]

I have had a go at nominating one of my own articles for DYK. I will do a review as suggested. I would just like you to take a look at the nomination, as I'm sure I must have screwed up in some way: the instructions told me not to use [[]] but it looks kind of odd without the links. The nomination is at Template:Did you know nominations/Petoski  Tigerboy1966  16:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for writing up another wikiarticle and nominating it for DYK. Your nom template looks line, except that the hook wasn't wikified. (Done.) I believe the instructions to use only plain text but not wikicodes only apply to the " | article =" and "| author =" lines of the nom template. Now that the nomination is ready to be reviewed, I've posted the nom template on T:TDYK. Hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing this hook on MainPage soon. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 18:51, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Research Questions

[edit]

Hello, I am involved with a research project for Michigan State University and am wondering if you would be able to answer a few questions regarding tool sets on Wikipedia. What were the tools you mainly used prior to becoming an admin, and after becoming an admin? Here is a link to the project if you are interested Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Wiki-Project Management (Jonathan Obar) , and if you have any questions please let me know. Thanks! Ltezl (talk) 22:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Time for fresh eyes?

[edit]

Helpful comment. You may have noticed that in his peroration Carabinieri says "I won't be commenting on this nomination any more and have taken the page off my watchlist". The other reviewer is Victuallers, but he hasn't responded to a note I left on his talk page. I don't know if you might deal with it yourself? In the circumstances, no one could complain. Moonraker (talk) 14:10, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm.... Carabinieri doesn't seem to be in a good mood.... Well, usually i don't do reviews, as i prefer being the one promoting hooks to the prep area and build hook sets. I'll wait a few days and see. --PFHLai (talk) 15:16, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, PFH. If I were in Carabinieri's shoes I should let go and see what happens. Moonraker (talk) 15:24, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DYK Question

[edit]

Hi PFHLai, hope all is well. I was working on an article in userspace for a DYK when It's finally ready. My question is does the 10 day limit count when the article is in userspace and not in article space? Regards, --SKATER Is Back 14:39, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your question, Skater. According to WP:DYKSG#D8, the clock doesn't start till the article gets moved into article space. You can take your time to build your article when it is in your personal sandbox for as long as you need. Hope this helps. BTW, it's 5 days, not 10. Good luck on your DYK nomination. Happy editing. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 02:20, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely brilliant work to get this on the main page. I sort of got fed up with the article after writing the basic version and hitting brick walls when I looked for sources. FroggerLaura is also fantastic.  Tigerboy1966  12:53, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FroggerLaura filled in a lot of the missing refs. That's why I gave her the {DYKmake} credit for this article. Glad to see this horse on MainPage. Cheers! --PFHLai (talk) 15:53, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
