November 2006
Mkdw
On October 12th 2006 (UTC), you sent me a message in summary ' we would like to wait and see more edits from you (but we certainly have noticed your good work).' I have spent the last couple of weeks exploring Wikipedia. I have become involved in some Wikipedia projects such as WikiProject Vancouver. I have joined other movements on the site such as the counter-vandalism patrol and am exploring VandalFighter. I am wondering if in that time you have been able to review my progress. I am getting to the point where applications such as VandalProof would benefit my contributions in fighting vandalism. Thank you for your time. Mkdw 06:59, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the approval, but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm on a Mac OS X. Mkdwtalk 00:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
VandalProof
Noticed your note - have you found this to be helpful? I've only been able to try to use 1.3, bc it's the only one that works on regular user priveleges on Windows, but I haven't liked it much. I've found Lupin's Javascript tool seems to work as well as any. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 18:19, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- I can't say I use it much, as I'm a Linux user with a dysfunctional Wine installation, so I use (and am a moderator for) VandalSniper instead. (I also wrote out a lengthy, totally unauthoritative comparison between VP and VS at one point.) I did once use VP in a large capacity, though, and I personally did prefer it over Popups – Popups isn't really an RC tool, though, in its defense, although I think it's a great script. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 19:08, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Devilmaycares RfC
May I suggest that you move your endorsement to the basis section so the RfC won't get deleted? This makes sense since you've actually tried to talk to the user I think. JoshuaZ 03:00, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Guy should as well. But I'm taking them as de-facto endorsements (even if in the wrong place) since they are involved. ---J.S (t|c) 04:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- If you guys want me to, I'll move my comment. I'm just not "experienced" with RFCs nor am I sure I want to be deeply involved in this particular one. Frankly, this user doesn't seem legitimate enough to me to bother with responding to this RFC – not that I don't support it. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 04:06, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, no one seems to care about this user's damage. I posted a link on WP:ANI. The RFC is getting hardly any attention. I'm doing exactly what the guidelines say to do and nothing is happening. I'd even be happy with someone coming into the RFC and telling me how wrong I am. Arg this is frustrating. ---J.S (t|c) 05:14, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well, people might not care that much in so far as he isn't a very established editor. If the behavior continues it may make more sense to just ask an admin to give him a block and see if it wakes him up. He has been disruptive enough to warrant blocking. JoshuaZ 06:31, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

- Alright. I'm not sure if having it in history is really acceptable, but I'll let that go for now. Still, I'm re-adding the {{prod}} tag with regards to WP:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information. Mexican Jews.
If you check the page again, the Mexican Jews article has been expanded to be more than just a cut and paste of the original article from the History of Jews from Latin America. There is now more in-depth information about each city with Jewish communities in Mexico.
It is absolutely necessary for there to be a separate page about Mexican Jews. There is a huge interest in the United States about the Mexican Jewish community. There are also various Mexican Jewish communities each of which is facing individual issues, which makes a need for a separate entry in Wikipedia. It's important for someone to be able to type in Mexican Jews and be directly sent to an article.
Let's remove the suggestion to be merged. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Suyw (talk • contribs) 05:32, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Heya. I noticed that you placed the {{recreated}} tag on Garygg (talk • contribs)'s talk page, but I see no matching item in the deletion log. Did you mean to place a different tag, or was the title of this new page different to the original?

- The article he most recently created was actually a repost of a speedied article under another name that I unfortunately can't remember and don't have a record of. I figured it was an appropriate tag nonetheless. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:27, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Ashley McElhiney article--Help!
Sorry to bother you, but I am unsure if I've created two articles: Ashley McElhiney and Ashley_McElhiney or not. Of course, I want to have the two-word name version, since it seems more searchable. I noticed that you had done a redirection...
Thanks very much for your help!

Thanks for the explanation about " " vs "_", that is helpful to know. However, when I do a search for "McElhiney" there is no reference listed to this article, just other's in which the name is found. Wii Startup Disc
I noticed that you voted for merge on the AfD page of Wii Startup Disk. User:TJ Spyke has provided us with the following information: "In the new IGN Weekly (IGN Weekly Holiday 06), they have the final Wii box and take everything in it out. There was no startup disc there (they also re-confirm that Wii Sports will just come in the same cheap cardboard that Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt came in)." Please consider changing your vote to redirect, as this disc does not exist, and people may search for it and need a redirect. A consensus for this issue would be excellent. I greatly appreciate you opinions and value your perspectives. Your vantage point enables me to better conceptualize Wikipedia’s purpose. I will watch this site in the future to determine if it becomes more notable, however I won’t lose any sleep if it is not included in that particular article. However, I did find it to be quite hilarious, yet I understand that humor is not a criterion for adding a link to an article.

This website is relatively new, about 3 months old. It is not a buisness operation and is not operating with a for-profit motive. It had previously had wikilinks to another wikipedia entry -- Fanhome -- but it was decided to be deleted since the informal relationship between the two websites ceased to exist.
Kindly inform what further steps should be made to the structure of the entry to make it conform to any other wiki standards.
Thanks.
Also, this particular entry has existed for a couple of weeks now. I did some minor editing to it, that's all; hence my bewilderment at why it was flagged for speedy deletion now. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Uck Peddie (talk • contribs) 02:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Wow. I'm impressed
I'm a Wiki rookie, and yes I really found out about Wikipedia's 'editability'(is that a word?) through the notorious, fore-mentioned 'Get This' from Australia and it lead me to want to create a Wiki page about my and/or my bands efforts in the local Brisbane music scene. Not sure how this content goes but I'm learning.
I just wanted to pass on my absolutely uninformed thanks to someone who is obviously well respected and puts in a lot of work into this for little or no return and this kind of selflessness certainly should not no unthanked.

You put a "notability" notice on the Nuçi's Space article on which I'm working. I have added quite a few references to newspaper articles and a few performers in the relevant sections. I will still be working on it, but I hope this is enough to establish its notability. In any case, I have to sleep, :) and don't want the page deleted before I can work on it again! - Was the material you added to the article a part of your own project? Because it looked like a direct copy of http://www.iam.unibe.ch/~rvs/research/publications/projekt_thomas_staub.pdf and possibly other sources. If you have permission to post this material, that's acceptable, but there is a copyright policy here. Either way, yes, it's usually best to put things in your own words. Still, thanks for trying to help with that page – it does need expansion and I'm preoccupied with other projects and haven't used ns in a while so I'm not the most qualified to update it (although I know I put my name on the talk page as a "maintainer"). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 12:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, I remember this now: User talk:Mram80#ns_.28simulator.29
Again, if those are your works, or if you have clearance to post them or can show they're not subject to copyright, you can put them back in, but you gave no assertion of permission to do so. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 12:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Lee Isaacs is in my opinion one of the most influential artists in the South. He was only one of tow artists included in "UpSouth" and very noted exhibition about artists inthe south through Space One Eleven who is funded by Andy Warhol Foundation. He was also a stable at AGNES, a notable photography gallery and was editor for Alabama Art Monthly He has also worked in film with "Johnny Floyton" 2002 He lectures and teaches camera techniques and is a visiting artis to many colleges and universities in the south.
I hope this helps.

Also, after much thought and consideration on my part. I was flabbergasted to note that I wasn't given even half a chance to wikify the article in question nor was I allowed enough time to give you my citations about his work to begin with. If you look at the history of this article I was given one minute to do all of this before you swiftly discarded my work. 18:25, 21 November 2006 Artsojourner contributed and in one minute flat at 18:26, 21 November 2006 Omicronpersei8 tagged it and blocked me from any further work on it. IS THIS FAIR since I know Omicronpersei8 didn't take the time or effort to google his name properly in 60 seconds
In googling Lee Isaacs I saw that "Lee" is an overwhelmingly used middle name so I went about to look him up using the -name sign on google and subtracted many first names this way and still ended up with more that 220 articles about him and this, in and of itself, seemed notable enough to me. I feel just because he has spent most of his professional life in the Southern US in no way would make him less of an artist than say someone who has spent most of their professional life in the Northeast. Isaacs has worked in film. He is an expert in Pinhole camera. He has worked as a portrait artist of many notable people. He was the photography editor of a state-wide Arts magazine (Thats a biggie in the Southern US) and also shown his work alongside many notable artists including Emma Amos, Willy Cole, Melissa Springer, Ruth Bernhard, Paul Caponigro, Jerry Uelsmann and Jack Spencer. So I think this is notable also.
This said, after my work here or many hours, I wish to include Lee Isaacs. Artsojourner 06:45, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

regarding the noob
A tag has been placed on The noob, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable (see the guidelines for notability here). If you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please write {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.
Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

- Hi – I've tagged it because it appears to be written in an unencyclopedic tone that appears to have the motive of advertising. If you can trim it down to the bare essentials (i.e. simply tell what the magazine is) and then (and also very importantly) assert why it is a notable publication, I will give some thought to downgrading the deletion tag. Hope that helps. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 10:50, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the green Wikipedia:Edit lock tag on the Etiquette in Europe article. The article should be presentable in 8 hours or less. I haven't dealt with the Edit lock before, but I suspect that you set it up so that I can remove it when finished. Thanks, and Happy (American) Thanksgiving. ◄HouseOfScandal► 18:39, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Spam on my user page
Thanks for removing the spam on my user page. Actually I don't think it was just random drive-by spam - the people to whom it was posted were all involved in a rather nasty row a few months ago with some anonymous editors over an article about a far-right fringe British politician. The anons were eventually all banned for personal attacks, legal threats etc. If you follow the spammed links, they're about legal cases in which people in the UK were sued for posting things on US bulletin boards. In short, it seems to be another legal threat from the same crew. -- ChrisO 15:12, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Erased edits? Are you sponsoring external links?
I recently found out about The Private Equity Exchange where I am to be a keynote speaker. I loved the idea that a community of Private Equity professionals can exchange across all asset classes. The summit is next week.
I had never heard of it, probably because it is in Europe so I went to Wikipedia to add it to external links but I got erased time almost automatically.
But other commercial links don't? Why?
For instance on Private Equity you can find as external links:
PrivateEquityOnline - The global private equity news website
But you deleted the link to the Private Equity Exchange, why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Soloren2001 (talk • contribs) 10:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Because this link was being spammed across dozens of articles. If I'd caught someone in the act of adding the link you mentioned across multiple articles, I would've reverted his or her edits as well. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 10:40, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I do use Wikipedia extensively to find out resource about something: both wiki-user knowledge and outside resources - aka external links... So I could help you and remove the link to "Private Equity Online" (and many other commercial links but not everything that is commercial is bad, I do find some external links to very valuable resources) or you could not delete the link I added to "Private Equity" about the "Private Equity Exchange" which I find a valuable external ressource to people who want to know more about Private Equity including many hours of videos with PE professionals (and they are free)... Is it not one of Wikipedia's purpose: increase the liquidity of knowledge? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Soloren2001 (talk • contribs) 11:22, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- Not when it involves blatant advertising. One link is overlookable, but not twenty. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 11:35, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Omicronpersei8 I am quite amazed with the Spam removal you are involved with! I am actually thrilled to have learned so much more about how wikipedia works! About my edits: I added only 4 links (not 20), because they seemed relevant to me: the Private Equity Exchange is a summit about Private Equity across all asset class, so created external links in Private Equity, Venture Capital, LBO, Real Estate and Restructuring. So beside 'a repeat of links' and if you don't have a serious objections, related to the referencing of Wikipedia:External_links, I would like to add the links. And I'd really like to do it in respect with what you are doing for Wikipedia which is why I am just waiting for your go head and not just re-adding them... They seem to me as legitimate links per what seems a proper use of Wikipedia:External_links... If you don't find it legitimate I would like then to know why external links on Private Equity (such as "Private Equity Online") would be legitimate instead. Looking forward for your response. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Soloren2001 (talk • contribs)
- You're right, I just plucked that number out of thin air. Sorry. Basically, if you want to add a link here or there, I'm not going to oppose you, but what got me on your case in this instance was simply the fact that it was being added to several different articles. I haven't checked out the content of the link, but it's fairly obvious by the name that it's a site/page that would fall under the category of commercial interest. Either way, if you can confine this link to a couple articles at most, I don't see a problem. Links that are acceptable when posted across multiple articles (i.e. in rapid succession) are sites like IMDb, which are popular resources for knowledge on a specific topic (although I know this particular example uses ads, like many sites of its ilk). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Why, hello there
I had a question about the little annoying box in the preferences thing that is very uncooperative and refuses to have me use my signature. When I asked my friend (she was very unhelpful, by the way) about this, she told me to go to you. And, here I am, waiting for an answer. Hope you can help. *GASP*,it's C I N N A S P I C E! - Hi – is the "Raw signature" checkbox below the Signature input box checked? If it isn't, that's the usual reason for why signatures don't "work". Let me know if that doesn't help. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Right, I checked it, but then it said something along the lines of "No, sorry, not working, go bug off and find something better to do, such as clean your toenails".
*GASP*,it's C I N N A S P I C E! Please talk to me
- Not totally sure what the problem is, then, because I haven't seen anything like that. Could you show me the actual error you get? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 08:34, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- It said "Invalid Signature" and something about HTML tags.*GASP*,it's C I N N A S P I C E! Please talk to me
- I'm guessing it has something to do with how you're intertwining wikicode with HTML tags, like so:
[[<font>example]]</font>
(this should be<font>[[example]]</font>
) - There may also be a problem with your usage of the "Broadway" font face, which I'm betting most of us don't have. The solution for this would be to use a core font instead. Would it be possible for you to copy and paste the exact text of the error here? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:19, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Administration
Hey Omicron,
On your userpage, it says you don't want to become an administrator. Is there a reason why? Honestly, I think you would make a great one, as you catch vandalism very, very quickly (you've corrected vandalism to my own user page before I ever noticed it, for example), and I'm constantly seeing your name pop up on my watchlist. I would think you'd get a lot of use out of the extra buttons. Any chance you'd reconsider? Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 23:13, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I really, really appreciate it, but I think I have to say no for the time being. As for the reasoning, I'm quite willing to share that, but I'm not sure I have the time at the moment. This is just an update so I don't keep you waiting. I'll update this later with proper reasoning if you're still interested. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:53, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Here was my reasoning as of a few months back, by the way: User:Omicronpersei8/Counter-vandalism practices#Why_I_can.27t_be_an_administrator -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 19:03, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, Omicron. If there's ever a time when you feel you're properly "grown up", I'd happily nominate you or support you on RFA. You've been terrific. Oh, BTW, thanks for fixing my userpage. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 20:24, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Excuse me!
Dear Omicronpersei8,
I do beg your pardon for the slight misunderstanding about 72.177.178.215's edits on the page The Beautiful Mistake. Slight vocabulary misunderstanding (on my part), however the term is slightly too ambiguous. Using a more clear context or better term would have been more appropriate on 72.177.178.215's part. However, your removal of the Virgin Glactic link on Space Tourism was not justifiable and could explain your reasoning, and I will remove the message I placed on your talk page. This has been understood, and removed message. Replaced link with a link for the real Virgin Galactic Booksworm Talk to me! 15:23, 27 November 2006 (UTC). However, please leave a message on my talk page, link below; thanks in advance.
I hope we can be on better terms in the future and I hope to work with collaborativley on the Wiki and to defend it.
Once again, I beg your pardon and I wish you more enjoyment on Wikipedia,

- It means Please do not add biased comments to Wikipedia as you did here [7]. NPOV requires views to be represented without bias, or it is considered vandalism. Thank you.Hu12 10:32, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Well mister Hu12, there are plenty of subtle biased information and inacuraccies on this site! so where is the problem of i me being more explicit!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.14.136.242 (talk • contribs) 14:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

VFW
The reason I put a moresources tag on the vfw article is because all of the sources cited are self-published primary sources. There are a couple of statements that really need to be sourced by reliable secondary sources. I am reverting. - Crockspot 17:02, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- Okay. I was actually changing all the transclusions of {{moresources}} I could find because its title deceptively claims that the article only has one source, and I happened across that article and felt it didn't need the tag. It does, however, sound like it should be using {{more sources}} instead. Would you agree? (Also see Template talk:Moresources.) -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:07, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
- I was confused for a minute until I realized there are two templates, moresources and more sources. The sources in the VFW article are actually all from a single source, the VFW website. So technically, it really is only citing one source, the VFW. I'm leaving it as is for now. Crockspot 19:58, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Omicronpersei8
Thank you for destroying my vandalism. I have decided to start checking for vandalism my self. WmCliff 00:31, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Why did you remove the reference to RA-writer in this article? It's quite relevant stuff. If you don't mind, I'll reinstate it. (The ip-edit was not me, btw) --abach 14:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC) Uhm, never mind that, my bad (; --abach 14:40, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Please consider also warning vandals
Thank you for reverting vandalism on Wikipedia. Could you also please consider using our vandal warning system [8]? First offenses get a "test1," then a "test2," followed by a "test3" and "test4." At the end of this, if the vandal persists, he or she merits blocking for a period of time. If you do this, it will greatly help us in decreasing vandalism on Wikipedia. Much thanks, -- Kukini 21:00, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
