Counter-Vandalism Unit
as a new user of Vandalproof, does that make me a member of the Counter-Vandalism Unit? or is that something totally separate? Drmagic 23:54, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think so, because that's just some title someone gave me a while back. There are no requirements for being in it -- you just put the proper userbox on your user page/talk page. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:57, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Nonsense?
your rejection of my revision and claiming it to be "nonsense" is unsupported and wrong. The derogatory term, "Spic" is a derivative of the older "Spig" which evolved from the stereotypical response from a Mexican immigrant-"No Spigga de English" ("No Speak the English" My revision of the (incorrect) entry that already exists is correct and should stand in the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 166.102.254.142 (talk • contribs) 19:25, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Re-introducing copyright violations
G'day Omicronpersei8,
I appreciate you're a member of the Counter-Vandalism Unit, but this edit (reverting to a copyright violation) was rather silly, even for CVU. Please be more careful in future. Thanks, fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 09:32, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, judging by my talk page, I obviously do make mistakes. For some reason, I also have the dubious honor of being called out almost every time I do. I guess I figured, given that an IP blanking a page is usually a case of vandalism, and that errors like mine are easily reverted, that I would get some sort of understanding for not having gone back and checked three posts prior. Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Mate, I fixed a copyright violation on an article (then reverted when it was re-introduced). You reverted me, with the edit summary "rvv". I'm sure you can understand why that might cause concern. As for being called out almost every time you make a mistake, well, that's a good thing. Just think how quickly you're learning! :) fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 08:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Unblank the Talkpage
I see you unblanked the talk page of the IP adress I am using now. It is an IP adress from a pool, here is the RIPE Whois:

You could also have checked yourself. You can see the pool in the listing. It is true that this IP was assigned to me for a long time, but this is because we share a router that is almost always online, plus this IP survived last few resets (like 3 per year I suspect). However, we didn't pay for a static IP adress and it also happened before that the IP changed and it can change anytime. Moreover, even this IP is shared by more individuals who are connected to the router. Any the comments left on the talk page would certainly be inappropriate, moreover, these were no warnings, just messages for me, and I have seen them and I don't need them anymore. Please don't unblank the talk page. 85.70.5.66 22:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's not how it works here. Talk pages are preserved, regardless of who is currently using them, so that vandalism from a certain provider can be tracked, among other reasons. If you don't like the messages being in your user talk space, then create your own account. It's also very suspicious to me that you are specifically blanking a version of your talk page that shows that your IP has been trying to "recruit" voters for a poll [1]. Furthermore, seeing that your IP has been blocked for said actions and also having seen your IP's POV vandalism to the Jimbo Wales/Statement of principles page makes one unsure about complying with you before some deliberation.
- User page blanking is generally considered a form of vandalism, especially when something is being "covered up"; the correct thing to do with conversations you don't want is archive them. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:24, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- How does it work here?
Talk page vandalism Deleting the comments of other users from article Talk pages, or deleting entire sections thereof, is generally considered vandalism. Removing personal attacks is often considered legitimate, and it is considered acceptable to archive an overly long Talk page to a separate file and then remove the text from the main Talk page. The above does not apply to the user's own Talk page, where users generally are permitted to remove and archive comments at their discretion, except in cases of warnings, which they are generally prohibited from removing, especially where the intention of the removal is to mislead other editors.
- There were no warnings on my talkpage. The fact that the other users discussed the block with me doesn't matter - these were not the blocking admins, just people who watched this and encouraged me to get an account etc., these comments are no warnings. Per WP:VAN, I can remove the text at my discretion. The block log is sufficient for any user, and should someone really be interested in what happened to that IP, anyone can check the history of the talkpage.
- However, to restore the {helpme} and {unblock} tags, not spending the time checking what you've restored and then spend ten minutes writing this "I am sooooo much better than you" comment on your talkpage is making me think that you are too zealous. You know that disrupting wikipedia {helpme} and {unblock} processes by maliciously placing these tags on someone else's talkpage should be considered vandalism? You even got someone to come and warn me about misusing {helpme}. Luckily, I didn't get blocked for your actions. I should place a warning on your talk page but I assume good faith and believe that you didn't want to do this. However, I will report you to AN/I and ask someone to calm you down in your zealousness. Greetings 85.70.5.66 06:40, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- They weren't warnings, but were clear indicators of questionable goings-on. Commander Keane's edit wasn't a warning, just a comment. I didn't tell anyone to go to your talk page. I've asked, and there appears to be no clear rule against me doing those reverts, as long as I don't exceed three. Some people did advise against it, after I followed the okay of the first post in my query to Village pump (policy). I won't bother reverting again, at any rate, and thanks for going the extra mile and archiving your talk page. Sorry if you're feeling cornered; I'll back off.
- Regarding {{helpme}} and {{unblock}}, those were my fault, and I wasn't really thinking about it, but the person who replied afterwards didn't seem too troubled about it, and was just addressing some of your comments. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- OK, sorry, I already posted on AN/I because I thought you are gonna revert again, I will strike it out though. 85.70.5.66

Hi Omi, I just pulled up your stats using Intertiot/Tool2 and quickly perused your contribs. I think your contributions and conduct fairly scream "Admin material!" and I'll be looking forward to voting "Support" on your RfA a few months from now :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 07:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- You are a swell guy/gal for saying that. I think I've proven I really need to review site guidelines quite a bit more before even thinking about something like that, though. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 07:53, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a guy, and I often assume other editors are male unless some subtle clue (like the name "Linda123") suggests otherwise. As for the things you need to learn, that will come with time and it won't take long. Keep in mind that it's almost impossible to interact in this community without occassionaly getting involved in some minor controversy from time to time. The important part is how you handle yourself when the feces is hitting the fan. BTW - I actually had a somewhat similar incident recently: I had asked advice from an Admin with over 10K edits, and then I followed it. But another editor made a minor fuss so I reverted myself, we talked it over, and then we managed to reach a good consensus. It was definitely a learning experience, and I suspect you feel the same. Keep up the good work, and I hope to see you around :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 08:20, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

RE: User:216.55.235.57
Whenever you have to revert an edit like what you had to do at article Omarosa Manigault, you should let the vandalizer know that vandalism isn't allowed so that the IP Anon would know that you would not tolerate it again. Just my 2 cents. — The Evil in Everyone (U * T/R * CTD) 22:00, 9 July 2006 (UTC) P.S. Generally in situations like this, it's best to act anonymously to the vandalizer to protect your reputation.
- I usually give a leeway of two or three vandalisms before a warning, but thanks for the input. And why should I hide my identity? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 22:02, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- The reason why I recommended hiding your identity is because generally, whenever it's a vandal, it's to prevent the vandal from getting revenge against you.
- In other words, I usually fight vandalism harshly, but should I just give the Vandalizer some chances to clean up before action needs to be taken? In addition, I usually use the {{subst:test1}} template for the first revert so that people can actually be aware that the sandbox is the place to do all of their tests.
- But if you know how to combat vandalism, then I won't debate any longer, since I'm pretty sure you know what to do. — The Evil in Everyone (U * T/R * CTD) 22:06, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

This machine is slow, so when the rollback finally happened, it also overwrote your newer edit. However, it doesn't appear to have removed the image. Am I wrong about that?

Bittorrent Trackers
I started adding a list of tracker scripts to the page and the sections were deleted. It would be one thing if I was adding a list of trackers, but as these are scripts to start a tracker, there is no reason to remove these. Please keep this in mind as I change the names to include the word "scripts". Also, I changed the word "indexes" to "indexers", as it is... wrong. If you want to speedy-delete a prodded page (like Kitten Huffing), please leave the prod tag there (so the page has both a prod and a speedy tag). That way, if the speedy-delete fails, the prod is still there. --ais523 09:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Egg Snake
This page is about a little known culteral aspect of west coast tradition. Several coastal regions in British Columbia continue to keep the tradition alive by offering the egg snake in thier establishment's menu, and serve it in the same style as it once was served by the merchant sailers. If you have a problem with the writing of the page, please feel free to edit it. However, do not assume that it is immdeiatly a hoax. For example, there are many different animals in existance that lay eggs edible for human consumption; this statement was simply for clarification. (Charlieandeddie 23:15, 11 July 2006 (UTC))
- You should argue this on the AfD page. Also, if you can provide some links or sources supporting the subject's existence and/or popularity, I'd be happy to vouch for you and try to get the deletion discussion closed. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding my "egg comment" -- you're right. I don't know why I thought that sentence was so ridiculous when I saw it; I guess I just wasn't thinking straight. I have noted this as well as the gist of my last comment on the AfD page. Still, Google doesn't give me too many relevant results when I search for "egg snake", and I am still a bit skeptical about this being a popular form of food rather than a very localized tradition. If we can get past that question, I will consider your article solid. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
RE: Egg Snake
The tradition of the Egg snake has been enjoyed and continued on many establishments on the west coast, including, but not limited to, the South Western Coast of British Columbia. The page Egg Snake is an over-due attempt to bring light to this lesser-known West Coast marine history. Many coastal American establishments from Northern California and Oregon, including my own, still serve the traditional Egg Snake on the menu. The area's thriving most from Egg Snake popularity again seem to be located on the South Western Coast of British Columbia.
The Egg Snake is very much so a real and current standing piece of West Coast heritage. Although not well known, it is my intent through this page to educate marine history enthusiasts to some of the finer points of history on the West Coast. Noting that it is in-fact a relatively unknown piece of history, I failed to realize that Google is a reliable generator of credible sources and in the duty of determining fact from fiction. If this were the case, my very own restaurant from which I work daily (which has Egg Snake on the menu), would not exist according to Google.
My Goal is simple: To educate marine history enthusiasts to some of the finer points of history on the West Coast. I wish to know what verification is needed in order for the page Egg Snake to stand. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Charlieandeddie (talk • contribs) 02:55, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

The precise definition of race is under dispute..
I wrote this to help spread understanding, please make sure to read the definitions of outcrossing on the link.
There is a lot of misunderstanding of genetics and further there is a lot of misinformation that people spread because they WANT you to think that there is no difference between peoples for a political or social agenda, that does not make it so. Humans share 98% of our genetic code with Chimpanzees, yet that 2% defines our differences and is important as is the difference in the human population, no matter how small the difference.
There are obviously differences in the expressed traits between Asian, African and Caucasian. These are different types of humans, if you choose to call the a race/breed or type it's up to you and it's immaterial. My argument has always been that racial diversity should be preserved which is a more neutral position rather than promoting that race mixing and interbreeding is somehow positive.
You and many people that listen to pop culture may think that by interbreeding you are helping humanity and there are lots of myths about how you will create better offspring; offspring that have the best of both parents. This is just a myth told by people who, are trying to say that people are equal, if different. Yes, people are people as Americans we believe that all people have certain inalienable rights but the best position for humanity is for each of the races to exist, separately to be the best we can. If you truly understand the advantages that diversity offers you will agree too.
I personally breed horses. And this is where I'll start telling you a story: the Thoroughbred horse started out as a mixed race horse. It was based on Arab stock and was bred only for speed for many generations, regardless of breed, the horse that ran the race the fastest was bred to other fast horses. The Thoroughbred breeding book is now closed, which means you cannot breed a Thoroughbred to any other breed, because, ANY cross you make outside of the gene pool will reduce the speed of the horse. This is called line breeding, please read this article as a basic "learn to breed" guideline: http://www.learntobreed.com/linebreeding.html. Line breeding(inbreeding) is a useful technique as is outcrossing when advantagous to produce quality results, random mixing is like a child finger-painting and does nothing positive.
What Wikipedia has been proposing is that random interbreeding is potentially a good idea and should be treated as potentially positive. Any person who knows about breeding animals will disagree, it's very unlikely that race mixing will result in a positive result unless it was planned for by a geneticist. When you cited the plant hybridization, that's what you were doing citing a hybrid that was designed in a laboratory and there were not human beings or living animals as a result of a genetic mistake. You can't through bad human crosses in the trash like you can with corn.

The Opposition - relevant
they must be on some importance seeing they are an English band with a Netherlands website who features the information in French:
The Opposition déchire notre silence hexagonal de son "Breaking The Silence".

- I don't speak French, and I have not attempted to translate any of this (which, using a tool like Babelfish, would probably not be very enlightening anyway), but a post from their website isn't the best resource to prove notability. I see a few words such as "Manhattan/EMI" and "MTV", but my ignorant eyes still cannot determine their fame from that. And anyway, it's just a {{notability}} tag. You can argue notability on the band's talk page and then remove the tag, if you so desire. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 15:08, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Why did you remove those articles that I had commended to merge?
68.148.165.213 16:47, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I removed the article name you struck out and your signature, the former because it looks bad and the second because it doesn't belong on an article. I didn't actually remove anything you wanted to be seen, did I? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 16:50, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes you did, unfortunatly for you. {{merge-to}} is different from {{merge-multiple}}; the First Nations blue link actually didn't show up.
- 68.148.165.213 17:08, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, yeah, that last title slipped by me. Honest mistake, which I'd fix, but you already seem to have.

Regarding Master craftsman
Why did you remove my tag!? People do NOT appreciate what you do, you can get on people's nerves!
68.148.165.213 17:12, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- First, it wasn't even a tag, it was "{delete}" and you didn't provide a reason. Second, what argument could you possibly have for speedy deleting master craftsman? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:17, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- Update: Okay, you did fix the tag in the second edit, but because of your positioning, it didn't show there, either. My reversion didn't even affect what was displayed on the page, and you'd have to go back and fix it anyway.
- Just a word of advice: There's no way that article is going to be deleted for "sexism". -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:17, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- The article has blatant sexism; we can all see that, hence blatant. Because you can't change the article title, you have to delete the page and start a new one; I hope you see my logic.......:-S-_-
- What blatant sexism? It only has three "hes". If you don't like it, you could change it to "he or she", which would probably be anachronistic, as historically, men were craftsmen (this being intended only as a statement of fact from my admittedly small world view). This may have a little bearing on why I reverted your speedy deletion tag, but the main reason was just that it was added with a couple small errors that caused it not to display. In truth, the reason I did not simply fix the tag for you is because you initially gave no reason, and I could not see (and still do not see) a reason for it.
- I do believe you are editing in good faith, though. Why not register an account? If you do that, and read up on speedy deletions a bit, I will try my hardest to not make tagging mistakes again. Deal? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:52, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I'm too confused by '...it added with a couple small errors that caused it not to display...'???:-S Huh, what do you mean?
- The first error being two brackets instead of four ({delete} instead of {{delete}}), and the second being ... wait, now your second tag does show right for me. God, I hate browser caches sometimes. So yeah, I screwed up there, and will increment my error count appropriately. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:07, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- At any rate, here are the criteria for speedy deletion, for your reference. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:14, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I would've gladly made those changes; in all honesty, I think I made the same edits before, but somehow they were reverted, or someone changed them, god knows how. But because of the fact the title is sexist, & because the only way to solve that problem is to delete article, I didn't bother, so now you know why I tried this new [for me] approach.
Regarding ==Welcome!==
Thank you for the message, I actually really apprciate it; I've considered getting an account, & said the next edit I'd make, I'd make with an account:-S You are truly inspiring. How come you sent that message to me anyways, though? Can I login now? Cause my IP address is a bluelink now.

I sent you that message because I think you really are trying to making good edits, but you just need a quick read-over of some of the rules. I am just referring to not signing articles and making sure you have good reasons for speedy deletion. God knows I've made my share of mistakes, and please, if I do something like what I did with the improper {{merge-to}} tag, go ahead and fix it. I really meant no harm. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:55, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Edit Comments
Oddly enough, lack of edit comments never justify reverting an edit. Noah Webster, didn't die on April 15th - and the anonymous user who removed a reference to the 15th was correct in doing so. Either assume good faith, or do a bit of your own checking. Please set the example for the new kids. Rklawton 23:20, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree with the first statement (unless there's an official rule I missed), but concede that I reverted that naively. However, I can't always do the research to ascertain whether edits are correct or not, and I feel, perhaps wrongly, that removing information requires more justification than adding it. Either way, I'll try to only revert bigger blankings. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 23:24, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

In Regards To Anson Chan
Omicronpersei8, I come to you with a desperate plead for help.
Recently, a user called WangFeiHung has repeatedly added communist, POV comments on the Anson Chan pages, alleging that she, along with the British Administration of Hong Kong at the time, brutalizing Hong Kong people. When me and another user reverted the edits in accordance with the NPOV practices, he called me and the supporters of my actions "Nazis". I am extremely offended by these comments. As a person who lived in Hong Kong, and a person whose parents lived with the horrors of the leftist riots in Hong Kong during the 1960's, I am deeply offended by the action of WangFeiHung.
As far as I know, Wikipedia has not turned into Maoistpedia, so why are we tolerating these extremely POV comments? WangFeiHung's foisting of an extremist political agenda is counterproductive for Wikipedia and will ultimately harm Wikipedia's reputation permanently. As a loyal Wikipedian, I cannot even imagine the consequences. Wikipedia was established with a mission to "create and distribute a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality". If we are to build Wikipedia into a respectable institution and allow it to serve its mission, we must prevent extremist edits, such as the ones made by WangFeiHung, from seeing the day of light.
Omicronpersei8, I hope you can help me defend Wikipedia's reputation and its mission by speaking with an admin, with the ultimate goal of banning WangFeiHung from editing for a certain period of time. Wikipedia is an institution, and it has great potentials. The potentials and aims of this institution is too great to be harmed by extremists. I beg of you to please help me in the defence of Wikipedia and the Wikipedian Aims. Thank you.
With Regards

- Most likely, it was blocked because it is too ambiguous. It would be hard to refer to you with that name, and completely numerical names are probably looked down upon as well. Maybe you could pick another pseudonym you use online, if you have one. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:45, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- No I don't. I don't think I'd be hard to refer to me by that name is that policy? It had better be changed, if it is, I should file a compliant eh?

Because of people like you, the good name of Joseph McCarthy has been smeared. It is shameful for a bi partisan encyclopedia to be run by partisan revisionists. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.59.160.187 (talk • contribs) 04:00, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Your edits were reverted and you were warned not because of your opinions or preferences toward the content of the article, but because you kept placing diatribes about the article's inaccuracy into the middle of the encyclopedic content, even after I put up a {{disputed}} tag for you. If anything, you should accuse yourself of partisanship, and if you keep on as you're doing, you will soon be blocked from editing. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 04:02, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your attempts to improve Wikipedia. However, what you removed from the Carl Monday article is completely factual. Carl Monday is watching Ytny masturbate, and he could be watching you masturbate. I believe that Ytny will corroborate this fact, because he knows the truth about Carl Monday. I am a Genuine Seeker of spirituality and Reiki. I have learned many methods of healing and have also found that the US people have gracefully commercialised the divine things like Reiki. If you are not aware, I request you to look for the internet healing links and addresses as well as training costs of different teachers openly mentioned in many parts of articles. Yet My learned editor has not felt that it is promotional or commercial. May I know why? I will appreciate if you take trouble to let me know how to add real ang genuine information to enrich your site. In fact My Teacher has huge valuable information for many sections of healing related sites. You may please mail me on energyexpressions@yahoo.com. I am fed up of loading the matter again and again and finding that it is simply being deleted for no reason!

What is improper in this matter?
+ ===Vishitao Reiki=== + A method practiced in some areas of India with 25 symbols that provides you an ability to do practically anything constructive in no time! + + ===Kriya Reiki=== + A method practiced in some areas of India that teaches you to heal others while healing yourself. + + ===Acu-Reiki=== + This method is practiced in some areas of India. It shows a wonderful combination of acu-pressure and Reiki with proven miracles. + + ===Chiti Reiki=== + A method practiced in some areas of India with symbols that restore and reactivate various mind related functions in a very short time and that can work even by writing physically on the affected area of the patient.

Yeah, i DO think you shudn't have reverted MY OWN f'in userpage. first of all, it is MINE, 2nd it was a JOKE (what crawled up your rear, take a joke man), and 3rd, as you stated, it does not change it in the history, therefore no matter what i change it to, it will always remain the way it was, and the warning that was sent will still have been sent. Its also amazing how in 10 seconds flat you erased my comment and started acting like my online father. Once again, it was a joke, and i think you should change it back, and relax cus in no way did it hurt anyone or the "encyclopedia", and since the page is MY user talk, it didnt hurt me either. Blasphemous article
From User talk:195.93.21.7.... "Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Dinosaur, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you feel that the edit I reverted should not have been reverted, please contact me. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:10, 20 July 2006 (UTC)"
Yes I feel that my reverts should of not been reverted. The Dinosaur article is nothing but false lies to defame God and contradict THE BIBLE. Do you know what contradict means? Can you look it up? Can you not see that you and all the reverting fools will go to Hell just for printing nonsense lies against the True Creation to mock God Himself? Who do you think God favours little man? Me ---an instrument of His Truth--- or people like you censoring the Truth by reverting to this fictional nonsense about "dinosaurs". The world is not even that old. Fairytales about giant monsters and you sinful Godless idiots believe it all like brainless cows! WAKE UP. You will literally] go to Hell if you continue a hopeless struggle against the Light. Edit on Talk page
Hi,
Just noticed this edit. The better way would have been to blank the whole talk page vandalism. I wonder if you should count it in your "Screw ups" though. Anyway, thanks for removing the offensive image. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:19, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- I actually left that message there so the vandal would be held accountable, but deliberately removed the image link. I think blanking the talk page would be counterproductive in the end as far as stopping vandalism goes, and I also didn't feel qualified to just delete all the text on your talk page. At any rate, since it's what you prefer, if I see vandalism to your talk again, I'll just remove it. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
why must you do that
let me have my page back and let me make it more wiki. --Wizzler2 18:04, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- No one "took the page away", and it's not "your" page. It was riddled with non-notable bios and advertising language, so I tried my best to neutralize it. You are more than welcome to continue adding to it, but please, please do not try to steer the article back in the vanity direction. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:06, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
serious? vanity? are you kidding me? why are facts vanity? why is the list of editors vanity? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wizzler2 (talk • contribs) 18:36, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Why can't facts be vanity? A list of editors is not necessarily vanity (but is pushing it); what you had were extended bios about everyone related to the site, a complete history of the comings and goings of editors, and several non-neutral statements. Please read WP:NPOV and WP:N before adding those sections back again. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:39, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
why do you get to decided the notability of people?
just a thought, over 30,000 people know me
over 30,000 people hate you, does it mean anything, probably. --Wizzler2 02:47, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- I believe you, because I had to remove over 30,000 Internet nicknames from that page.
I shouldn't have to explain to you why people whose only claims to fame are being a part of that site should not have half-page biographies, and I especially shouldn't have to explain why it's not okay to make endless lists of Internet nicknames for people who can post on a message board. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

if i made a time magazine page could i list the editors of it, or would that be vanity?--Wizzler2 02:59, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- What am I supposed to be answering? The people on the list are very clearly not notable. They would not have articles of their own on Wikipedia.
Please don't try to compare the editors of that website to Time Magazine editors. That's another fallacy I shouldn't have to explain. And I never removed the list of editors, only their "biographies", so I don't know what you're complaining about. I could have just put the article up for deletion, but decided to make several edits to it so it might not be tagged thusly. I am now starting to regret that gesture. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:02, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
so no reply???--Wizzler2 03:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- No reply to what? The Time Magazine question? The answer is no -- that's not vanity, because a Time Magazine editor is notable. They have at least national recognition. They would have their own Wikipedia pages. The editors of that site probably don't. Listing them would be borderline vanity, but I won't argue it. However, they don't deserve lengthy biographies, in that article or in one devoted just to their names, until their notability is established. No one knows who a bunch of random fake names made up for message board use are, and they add absolutely nothing to the article, so they shouldn't be in either.
Let me explain something else to you: If I hadn't neutered your article of advertisements and vanity text, either someone else would have or would have requested the page to be deleted. If you could just be bothered to read the rules of Wikipedia, starting with WP:5P, for example, you would understand that it's not just me trying to be a jerk, it's policy. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
mark up 9-1038 times you were wrong.
i would wait for your reply, but i have things to do, its called having a life try it.--Wizzler2 03:12, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Is that the reason you can't read the rules? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Here's my input. If I were to read an article about a sports network website, I wouldn't want to read a list of tons of nicknames of people who posted a lot on it. I'd skip over it immediately. Info like that should be put on the talk page for it, it's not actually that important. I'd rather have an article up about my site rather than have it deleted due to too much useless info. He's doing you a favor whether you realize it or not. -- MaxDuo 03:31, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Question
I really like the vandalism counter you have on your page, and like you I surf the RC wasting away reverting vandalism and other nonsense, I was wondering if I could have your approval to use that code-ing for your "mistaken reverts". If not, no problem, just thought I would ask! --Sopranosmob781 18:54, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, no problem, have at it. I don't know if you use VandalProof, but it has an error counter built-in that can post to your talk page, and I believe it gives extended statistics as well. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:56, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Master craftsman
Hey, sorry forgot to mention, yea your right, I thought about the fact that in the past there WERE only craftsMEN. But then, I thought, that's probably not true, but please, correct me if I'm wrong. 68.148.165.213 04:37, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I'm sure men weren't the only craftsmen, but were probably the main ones. This, of course, depends on things like the definition of "craftsman" or even "craft". I am not knowledgeable enough to speculate any further, but at any rate, I really don't think that article is guilty of sexist language just because it uses a term ending in "-man". -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 06:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
The Opposition - relevant
However looking at the notibilty article it seem that this band (as The Opposition and as So) tick more of the boxes than some other of the band's profile i have been on. - FYI Courduroy - their entry was: Corduroy (band)
Corduroy were a 4-piece acid jazz outfit based in London, Corduroy released three eclectic albums on Acid Jazz Records and then moved over to Big Cat Records. Several singles from their 1993 album High Havok charted in the U.K. Top Ten. (they'ver never had a top ten hit in the main chart)DJ HEAVEN 12:48, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Edit Warning Problems
I have received several messages warning me about Edits that I made to Playstation 3 pages. I actually made one of the edits to the List of Playstation 3 games page in a sarcastic way to send a message to the person who originally created the list, because the list has a ton of flaws! Here are some examples:
1. The List of Playstation 3 games page inaccurately leaves out the fact that virtually all of the games appearing on the Playstation 3 will also be appearing on other game systems, such as the Xbox 360. Clearly, this page was not developed by a neutral person who wanted to contribute to the education of people in an honest way--the way that the List of Xbox 360 games page is developed. Once I placed asterisks next to all of the Playstation 3 games that were appearing on all systems, the page was redesigned by the author in a way that did not allow people to realize that they were coming out on other systems, because then people would realize that there is virtually no point in purchasing a Playstation 3 for exclusive content. Clearly, this page was developed by a biased person.
2. The Playstation 3 will be appearing on the market one full year after the release of the Xbox 360, which means that it has far fewer games. When you compare the list of Xbox 360 games to the list of Playstation 3 games, it is obvious that the Playstation 3 games list is very small in comparison. The author of the List of Playstation 3 games page decided to create a deception by coming up with "untitled" and "unspecified" games that have absolutely no citation at all! As a result, I decided to edit the page in a way that pointed this out sarcastically by showing "untitled" and "unspecified" games without citation that were going to be released from 2007 through 2011. I believe that if you are giving me a warning, then you should also give that person a warning. In other words, if a game is still "untitled" or "unspecified" it should NOT be allowed on the List of Playstation 3 games page!
3. The Playstation 3 has been receiving a very large amount of negative publicity from the media, ever since the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo. This is a fact, it is not my imagination. This is why I edited the Playstation 3 page with a reference to the “untitled” and “unspecified” games on the List of Playstation 3 games page. If you go to virtually any videogame website, you will see interviews with developers saying negative things about the Playstation 3. At the 2006 E3, 83% of people attending said that Microsoft had the best show, 12% voted for Nintendo, and only 5% voted for Sony. Even in Japan, only 15% of people polled by Famitsu magazine said that they were interested in the Playstation 3. Game developers are absolutely not supporting the Playstation 3 with the enthusiasm that they did prior to the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The fact that the author of the List of Playstation 3 games page feels it is necessary to display such a large number of "untitled" and "unspecified" games clearly reveals that Sony is feeling a lot of pressure to keep up with the large library of high-quality Xbox 360 games. After all, on the page listing Xbox 360 games, there is no need to display imaginary titles that are "unlisted" or "unspecified."
Conclusion: Please remove the warnings I have against me that would potentially prevent me from editing this nice website. I also request that you remove the "untitled" and "unspecified" games from the List of Playstation 3 games page. In order for a game to be mentioned in a list, it should at least have an official working title. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mike mgoblue (talk • contribs) 21:08, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's no excuse for flooding the page with useless data, which you have just confirmed to be vandalism. If this is who I think it is, and I don't have the prior IP still on record, then I want to point out that there's a difference between some ill-conceived "untitleds" in a list and deliberately making the page unreadable, "to prove a point" or otherwise. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:13, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- This editor account is obviously the sockpuppet of another account/registered user of a vandalising IP, as per his/her contributions (none excl. this page), and how they are defending actions in the style of writing which indicates they made the original edit. Hi. You might want to keep an eye on User:BG66. Take a look at the history of Intelligent Design: [4]. Note that anon vandal 141.149.175.223 made a POV edit which was followed six minutes later by the very first edit of a new user which concealed the fact that a change had occurred (at least, from the perspective of a "most recent change" diff.

Vandalism Accusations
I've gotten a message saying that I vandalized a page about "Jason Lewis". It certainly wasn't me, but I do share an IP address with several other people via wireless. I'm not a big Wikipedia editor and generally only stick to fixing grammatical or spelling errors, so the banning of my IP won't be a big loss. I'd just like to apologize on behalf of my group of users and let you know that I'll attempt to put a stop to it, provided I can find out who's been vandalizing pages.
-Robert Johnson —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.117.189.145 (talk • contribs) 03:35, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your politeness and understanding. I certainly realize that one bad apple can cast dispersion over a whole group, and that you are not at fault. You really don't need to worry, because simple vandalism usually only carries short ban times, and are usually enacted while the vandalism is in effect, so this probably won't affect you. I also notice that this IP has no contributions other than the vandalism (see your IP's contributions) -- you probably have a dynamic IP, so this makes a "collateral damage" ban less likely.
Please, don't worry about finding out who the vandal was. It's not your job, not your fault, and certainly not a reason for you to apologize. Let the administrators of Wikipedia take care of that person, if they come back. We understand the difference between an IP address and a user, and just because one person on your network decided to be stupid, it doesn't automatically make you a partner in crime.
P.S. Wanna create an account? This would probably avoid this problem altogether. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 03:47, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Omicronpersei !
I honestly fell the article like being "unbalanced" and overly commendatory I am telling you this because I am italian and I can really tell you that what is written in there does not reflect the present feelings of Italian people nowadays in my country about the guy.
Why for example the chapter abouth the (many ) international trials involving mr.berlusconi is only included as a link ?
And also please update the picture .. it is very old Berlusconi is 70 y.o that pictures is possibly older of more that two decades ..
The article in my opinion is unbalanced in the present form and try to depict him in a "pink" alla roses way ..unrealistically.
Best greetings :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.145.218.201 (talk • contribs) 07:52, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi !
I just wrote you a about the berlusconi article.
In my opinion it is unbalanced and some info are also not updated.. to be honest in it present way seems written by the political office of Mr.Berlusconi.
If the goal is to have an encyclopedia style article it should be written in a more balanced way and not in a celebratory way.

Re "alumin(i)um" in Recycling
Hya, apparently either spelling is valid, though I had to look that up as well. With the extra "i" is the British version and as the article uses British English, that's what we've been trying to stick to, despite frequent good faith edits to "correct it" ;-) --jwandersTalk 01:11, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello
I noticed that you kept reverting the edits I made to these talk pages. I am the user that is being accused of sockpuppeting (Ericsaindon2). You see, there was this user a month or so ago that went on this rampage to make me miserable, and made a bunch of pages that claimed to be my sockpuppets. I am just finishing the reverts, and I would appreciate it if you would remove the unverified and unsourced claims that you keep reverting. Thank you, and I beg you to put all 15 of those pages back to blank for what that user did was pure vandalism, and it nneds to be removed until a checkuser is completed. My main issue with posting logs from knoppix is that I have to type them manually...there isn't really a way for me to copy and paste if I don't have internet access on the affected machine. Sorry about that. I always check it out because it seems to never be completely 100% up to date all the time. Just a word of note: If you use VandalProof or think you might be interested in it, it already has a function that tallies up your edits and lets you mark mistakes. For example, I clicked on the 'diff' link for your last edit in this page's history, then the revision line above your nickname. Knoppix Issues
It's no problem. I'm glad you're willing to take a look. I'm running Knoppix 5.01 DVD on a HP TC1100 tablet PC. I'm at work right now and I'm having similar issues, although with a static IP.
I'll explain my work problem now, and go into the home issue later if need be. I go into Network Settings. My eth0 device is there (I assume that's my network card). I enable the interface, enter my ip and netmask, default gateway, etc. I copied the settings from a working computer, so they should work. The computer shows up on the network, and the ethernet lights are on, with the green blinking occasionally.
Trouble is, whenever I try to open firefox or konqueror, nothing will load. It always times out. I seem to be able to pull the header from the official knoppix site. I appreciate any help you can provide =). Let me know if you need any further info. Alphachimp talk 18:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Has /etc/resolv.conf been updated? To diagnose whether you're communicating with the nameserver, try
host google.com
at the terminal.
I suspect the problem is either with the static routes, the nameserver configuration, or the device interface could simply not be "up". Let me know if you couldn't resolve withhost
.
I am actually downloading Knoppix 5.0.1 right now (my latest version was 3.9), and I'll see if I can get VandalSniper working on that. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 18:17, 21 July 2006 (UTC)- "connection timed out. no servers could be reached." Okay, I'm going to have to just brainstorm and throw out some ideas for your browsing problems. Do you have an unworking proxy address set up in preferences (also check thehttp_proxy
environment variable)? Is your router rejecting port 80 requests for some crazy reason, or only forwarding UDP packets? Is it performing erroneous NAT? Isiptables
running on your Linux box with a bad ruleset (iptables -L
to check)? If you need help with any of these checks, let me know. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:53, 22 July 2006 (UTC)- One more thing: I've seen erratic behavior by nForce ethernet devices in Knoppix (

Alpha, thanks for being so patient. I finally did what I said I'd do and try installing VS in Knoppix 5.0.1.
First, regarding network access: everything worked for me after setting up my static route (completely non-DHCP network). All I did was the following:
su
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 up
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
echo nameserver 192.168.1.1 > /etc/resolv.conf
host google.com
And I was resolving fine. So, I unfortunately will have to just refer you to my above ideas for why your network access isn't working, since it doesn't seem that the new Knoppix version has a particularly weird networking setup -- sorry.
I am now working on getting VandalSniper working. I will update soon. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 00:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

- But everything works fine in Windows?
This is a really odd problem to me. You may need to get a second opinion, as you may have some crucial Windows settings that I've never heard of, and I don't use Windows all that much nowadays. See if you can download something at the terminal usingwget google.com
or whatever you prefer (to make sure it's not a problem with Konqueror/Firefox). -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 01:00, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

VandalSniper installation on Knoppix 5.0.1
I now have VandalSniper working perfectly in Knoppix 5.0.1. Here is a rundown of the steps I used. I am simply going to type out the exact series of terminal commands you can use to duplicate my actions, which proved successful. Again, I am using the regular CD version of Knoppix, not the DVD version you have, but I suspect the same procedure may work for you.
cd ~/Desktop; su
wget http://www.chrishowie.com/files/vandalsniper-39.tar.bz2 http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2006/03/21/debian/pool/main/g/gecko-sharp2/libgecko2.0-cil_0.11-2_all.deb
- Set up /etc/apt/sources.list. You need a working stable source and a working testing source. There are a number of servers you could use, but kernel.org is consistently fast for me, so you might just want to use what I did. Note: Yes, I skipped the security updates lines.deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian stable main contrib non-free
deb http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian testing main contrib non-free

- apt-get install libnspr4 mozilla-browser
- During the next part, I ran out of space on my RAMdisk, so to be on the safe side, run:
rm -f /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb
apt-get install mono libmono1.0-cil libgtk2.0-cil libglade2.0-cil libgecko2.0-cil
(Copied directly from the the VandalSniper page.)dpkg -i libgecko2.0-cil_0.11-2_all.deb
(Also from the VandalSniper page; do let libgecko2.0-cil version 0.11-3 install first and then use this command line to downgrade it, as I'm not sure dpkg alone will fetch the needed dependencies.)tar xjf vandalsniper-39.tar.bz2
ln -s /etc /ramdisk/usr
(This corrects a missing path startup error.)cp vandalsniper-39/*dll* /usr/lib
(Makes needed libraries accessible system-wide.)
That should do it as far as making it work. Now you can just open the vandalsniper-39 directory on your desktop and click on vs.exe. If you have problems, let me know where you got hung up. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 02:29, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Back to the network problems
- I still haven't been able to establish a connection. This whole problem seems really strange to me. Windows networking works, btw. My local router (microsoft mn-500) ip is 192.168.2.1. The DHCP assigned ip for the linux box is 192.168.2.33.
- Here's something strange. When I do the wget google.com thing like you suggest, it says:
Resolving google.com... 64.233.167.99 64.233.187.99 72.14.287.99 Connecting to google.com|64.233.167.99|:80...connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response....
- And then it hangs...no response. I get a similar response when I start going through the steps you outlined so clearly above.
- While trying to remove DHCP and screw around with my settings, I messed up my connection and had to call my ISP, Verizon Avenue to get a password reset. I asked the tech about the Linux issue and she told me that "we do not support Linux". I think that's total BS, and I'm not sure whether that means that they don't offer any help for Linux users or don't allow Linux to connect. This whole thing is just really confusing me. Alphachimp talk 05:53, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ugh, sorry about leading you into messing up your connection. Password? This could be relevant. Do you have to log in every time you get online? Is there a login agent that runs in the background at Windows startup? (I don't know anything about Verizon Avenue.) Regarding the Linux support, I'm pretty sure she just meant they don't offer help with Linux, which is a pretty common ISP practice. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 09:31, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- No, the connection to the isp is over dhcp. I wouldn't allow any bs password manager to run in the background. You have to register the mac addy's of the individual computers that connect, but I only have to register my router. I suspect that the issue is the DHCP between my MS router and the linux box. Alphachimp talk 16:26, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree, it could be that the DHCP server isn't passing all the settings over. Have you rechecked your routing setup with
cat /etc/resolv.conf
androute -n
after acquiring a DHCP lease? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:13, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I just wanted to say I'm really sorry for not posting in the last day or so. I'm not allowed access to the internet at work and was kind of frustrated by the problem (and hence didn't work on it) on Sunday. My router is a discontinued MN-500 microsoft wireless (802.11b) router. It's running A DHCP connection with Verizon Avenue (registered via DHCP) and connects to my MS Windows computers (4) via DHCP. My 4 computers are running 3 copies of XP Pro and 1 copy of XP Tablet PC edition (which is the same as XP pro). They all work flawlessly (plug and play). VZ Avenue requires that I register the MAC of each computer connecting, so I registered the router. It's never been an issue since then.
I'm just incredibly confused by how I get an error whenever I click the little knoppix penguin and go to netcardconfig and select DHCP (yes). It says:
Sending DHCP broadcast from device eth0Operation failed. Failed. Hit return to exit.
As for your suggested steps above, I've followed them, but I'm going to have to put off more work until tomorrow around this time.
That's pretty much the same thing that happened on one of my other computers (another failed to load knoppix). I assume it's some issue with my router here. Microsoft obviously hates Linux...do you think they would try to block it with their router?
Anyway, thanks so, so much for trying to help me. It really means a lot to me. Perhaps you should post your tutorial along with VS as a possible work-around for Windows Users. I'm sure a lot would be interested. I have been able to connect from work (static ip), so I could probably config VS from there (of course I'm very apprehensive to do that for obvious reasons).
VS looks amazing because it seems to pick up everywhere Amidaniel has failed to update in VP (e.g. IRC feed, swear word filter, etc.). Even though I can revert a ton of vandalism with VP, I'm not getting anywhere near the efficiency I would be getting with VS.

- No problem at all; I certainly don't require consistent updates from you, as it's obvious you're busy, and I know how trying Linux can be. Sorry I haven't helped you break through the barrier yet. I want to help, it's just that it could be a simple problem, like a misconfigured DHCP setup, or a complex one, like bad Linux wireless drivers. The second situation could certainly be it, because wireless drivers in Linux are mostly just buggy hacks.
I know I've gotten into the bad habit of hurling vague advice at you when I get stumped, but try looking atdmesg
output for anything relevant. In addition to this and examining the network setup as listed above, you could run thewmwave
desklet to make sure it's not just an issue of your wireless connection going out (which I doubt). Sooner or later, I know your problem will get figured out. I hope at least a small tidbit of my advice might help you get there. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC) - And thanks for your suggestion of spreading the installation setups I posted. I was actually giving that a little thought, but I guess I need to recheck the steps several times first. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 17:35, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
This is sort of random, but I just linked another guy up with this tutorial. Once he's been approved for AWB, I told him to check here. alphaChimp laudare 03:35, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
