Congratulations, please help with more improvements
OhanaUnited, congratulations in your new role as a featured portal co-director. I look forward to your continued efforts to help improve Wikipedia's portal namespace. Along those lines, I am asking for your help. Please take a look at the portal peer review for Contents and megaportals. Just like adding featured portal co-directors, it is a part of a larger portal namespace improvement drive. All of your comments, suggestions and participation in this improvement effort will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, RichardF (talk) 15:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
GA Newsletter
Hi! I'm back! =) Thanks for filling in for me with a lot of this info. The DYK section is a good idea (it's got some interesting facts even I didn't know!). I did rename it and spelled out 'did you know', just to (a) provide more context for newer readers that might not be familiar with WP:DYK, and (b) avoid confusion with WP:DYK. I also decided to stick with Volume I, since there's only two issues there so far. There's set rules that say we have to go by calendar year, and I think I'd rather have more volumes than two. Maybe we'll go by wikipedia's fiscal year? When's that?
Based on the updates posted by Epbr123 for each of the four weeks in December, deciding the GAN Reviewer of the Month was easy (so far, it has been ;-)! I've got Dihydrogen Monoxide slated as the next reviewer of the month, having been listed as #1 for 3 out of the 4 weeks. I've already started putting that in, and am just waiting on some biographical details from DHMO, and then that's ready.
I already use WP:AWB to "publish" this and send out messages to everyone's talk page. Is there a way to make this newsletter table show up as a single line in someone's talk page, and let them click 'show' to view the newsletter right on their talk page? That way, I can just put a single template link when I publish it, and it will make reading easier.
I think we're about ready to go. As soon as we get DHMO's bio details, I'll add it and we can publish it. The GA sweeps section looks good; it's turning into a real update now,... Hopefully, that will help the sweeps,... ;-)
Cheers! Dr. Cash (talk) 05:03, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks and Happy New Year
Firstly, let me wish you a very happy New Year and thank you for all your help in the Milhist Tag & Assess 2007 drive.

Secondly, although the Tag & Assess 2007 drive is now officially closed, you are very welcome to continue tagging and assessing until 31 January 2008. Any articles you tag and assess during this time will be credited fully to your tagging tally for further award purposes.
Thirdly, if you can find the time, it would be good to have your feedback/comments on the drive at the Tag & Assess workshop
Thanks again for your help, --ROGER DAVIES talk 10:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
My RFA
Hey Ohana, since you offered to nominate me for adminship a few weeks back, I've had 5 other offers (1 being my admin coach, Rlevse)—out of those 5 I've picked you and Ioeth to do the co-nominations. Would you be willing to do this? I could contact one of the others if not. Thanks. Best, Rt. 11:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to offer the co-nomination position to Ryan Postlethwaite, due to the lack of a reply. Hope you don't mind. Best regards, Rt. 14:49, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Change of featured article for January 5
It appears that Giano and Raul654 have come to an agreement[1] that there should be a change in the featured article for January 5, from Prince's Palace of Monaco to Queluz National Palace. The FA list has been changed and updated; however, the template advising editors that Prince's Palace of Monaco will be the January 5 featured article has not been removed, and there is no template on Queluz National Palace saying it will be the January 5 feature article. Since you were the editor who placed the template on Prince's Palace of Monaco (and since I have no experience editing templates and will probably break something), may I impose on you to make the switch? Thanks. --Risker (talk) 01:23, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

GA Sweeps
Hi. I saw the message in the WikiProject Good Articles newsletter about GA Sweeps. I'm quite happy to help sweep over some articles; please let me know if you would like me to participate. Have a look at my userpage to determine if i'm qualified to assist. I mainly contribute to Sports and recreation articles, but am willing to sweep any categories; specifically I may be able to assist with chemistry articles. Anyway let me know whether you want my assistance. - Shudde talk 09:20, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

My apologies, I did not realize the project was invitation only. The full list of my previous GA reviews is here. Ɛƚƈơƅƅơƚɑ talk 21:42, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- Holds are to be applied "if the changes needed are minor and can be reasonably expected to be completed before the hold expires" (emphasis added). GA reviewers are allowed to make those judgement calls. I held and allowed time for improvements on Lessons for Children, Heuschrecke 10, John Balchen and Covering of the Senne. Your expeditious response indicates you did not give the matter appropriate consideration. Ɛƚƈơƅƅơƚɑ talk 21:54, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

You missed a few steps after you promoted the portal, I hope I fixed everything, there sure are a lot of steps to cover after a portal is promoted. Perhaps we could ask someone familiar with bot stuff to do it... Cirt (talk) 07:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC).

RuneScape EL removal
How do you know RuneHQ and Zybez could compromise computers? Did you and Javascap get some virus warning when you were on those sites? Nishkid64 (talk) 16:39, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- So was there a virus on Zybez.net? You said the source of the problem was rootkit, but that's totally harmless. Was there something else? Nishkid64 (talk) 17:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, but wouldn't AVG free just detect the rootkit because it was attempting to control the computer? As far as I know, anti-virus software detect rootkit signatures and report them to the user. It does not differentiate between what is good and what is bad. I think it's safe to say that Zybez's rootkit is safe (I haven't seen any widespread complaints about this. The tools seem to be working fine for people). RuneHQ might have also had a similar problem. I'll pose the question on Talk:RuneScape. Nishkid64 (talk) 17:46, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Scientific techniques
Thank you for your discouragement. You may well be right that WikiProjects are something else than a portal but frankly I think we first need to get together a critical mass of people from various disciplines and then decide how best to address what is a serious problem in all the sciences. A portal is one possibility but it may not be the best one.

HK Portal's selected picture
Just wanted to let you know - I've reverted your switching of January's picture. It was already up for 20 days, there was no point in switching it. But I've put that Joey Yung picture up for April (Portal:Hong Kong/Selected picture/2008/April). Pictures were already selected for February and March. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 21:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Please complete the maintenance so that the TOC & heading matches and the link isn't broken. RichardF (talk) 05:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, please do. Portal:Contents/Types TOC has "Arts and Culture", but Portal:Contents/Types layout has "Culture and the arts". User:Transhumanist had changed the name in both to "Culture and the arts", but you changed the TOC back on January 26, 2008. Wdfarmer (talk) 21:00, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me, cause according to Wikipedia:Portal/Directory, the category should be named "Arts and Culture" and not the other way around. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, Wikipedia:Portal/Directory calls it "Art and Culture". Who's to say which is the definitive standard? Wdfarmer (talk) 03:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Opps, I'll go fix the directory now. Featured portals uses "Arts and Culture" as a category. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:33, 4 February 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wdfarmer (talk • contribs)
Wdfarmer asked me to weigh in on this, so... here's my suggestion! :-) Go to Wikipedia:Portal peer review/Contents#General comments (or any other section) and weigh in. After looking at all the other naming systems out there, I decided to put my support behind "Culture and the arts" because "Culture" is the broader term of the two, and "The Arts" is broader than "Art." Any other section names you see out there at this point simply reflect an inconsistently applied edit war among a few individuals. Developing a general consensus at the above portal peer review for all of the issues presented there would take care of this question. RichardF (talk) 04:11, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Sweeps update
I saw you've already put down some new DYKs for the newsletter. Thanks! I just pasted in the GAN Reviewer of the Month & new users section, and I'll update the project news section on 1/31 with the most up-to-date info. Could you put some of the GA Sweeps news in before Wed.? Thanks! Dr. Cash (talk) 17:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

RfA thanks
I'm sorry you felt I that I lack the amount of interaction with other users. If you have reviewed my edit history, as mentioned on my reply under your comment on my RfA, that over 41.8% of my edits were on talk pages. I did want to see what specifically you were referring to, and even though my RfA has passed, I wanted to see what you were trying to say on that comment because I am still quite puzzled. (Did I mention that I also helped organize and participate in the recent Miami Wikipedia meetup?) Thanks for your vote. I look forward to your clarifications. - Jameson L. FP Directors
Hey. I'm willing to help in any way I can, but have a couple of questions. To clarify, other people will close the nominations, and I will simply ensure that they have done so correctly, and that a consensus has been reached? Also, if they have incorrectly closed it when a consensus has not been reached, what would I then do? - Shudde talk 10:07, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hey. Sounds like something I should be able to do. Put me down if you havn't changed your mind! I won't be able to help out much for the next week or so though because my internet connection is rather sporadic, and I'm prob going to spend most of my time dealing with Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/All Blacks versus France at rugby union. After a week or two I should be able to help out more though. - Shudde talk 07:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Wikimania?
I've stuck my toe back into Wikipedia, and I've signed up on the Wikimania 2009 Toronto bid page. Never been to a Wikimania, but I did help organize and run the World Science Fiction Convention in 2003 in Toronto. Keep me posted. Avt tor (talk) 22:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Promoting Wine Portal
Hello OhanaUnited, you have closed Wine Portal's nomination without dealing all the issues listed. Kindly be mindful, whether they are dealt before promoting. If they are not dealt, then contact the nominator to fix them and get them fixed. After getting fixed them, kindly close portal. Thanks, Shyam (T/C) 12:01, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think you're taking about the issues of "noinclude" tags. If you take a look at Cirt and RichardF's comments, they explained clearly that they disagree with your comments and provided their rationales. I respect their views so I closed it since it establishes a consensus. Keep in mind that giving suggestions is not a equivalent of supporting or opposing OhanaUnitedTalk page 14:21, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Nope, I am talking about the issues, which were listed by me. I believe you went through the whole discussion listed on the nomination before closing. Thanks, Shyam (T/C) 05:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Reverting Portal's TOC
I have reverted your edit from "Culture and Arts" back to "Arts and Culture" [2] because according to Wikipedia:Portal/Directory, the correct category is Arts and Culture. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:14, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but according to the actual location of the template, it's "Culture and the Arts". You will have to take it up with The Transhumanist – Gurch 12:50, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- How about both of you taking it up at Wikipedia:Portal peer review/Contents#General comments so we can work on getting some consensus about this? RichardF (talk)
- I couldn't care less where it goes – Gurch 14:14, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
