An amendment request, requesting suspension of Remedy 3 of Catflap08 and Hijiri88 case has been archived at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Catflap08 and Hijiri88. The case has been amended as following:

Remedy 3 (Hijiri88: Topic ban (I)) of the Catflap08 and Hijiri88 arbitration case is suspended for a period of six months. During the period of suspension, this restriction may be reinstated by any uninvolved administrator, as an arbitration enforcement action, should Hijiri88 fail to adhere to any normal editorial process or expectations in the area defined in the topic ban remedy. After six months from the date this motion is enacted, if the restriction has not been reinstated or any reinstatements have been successfully appealed to the Arbitration Committee, the restriction will automatically lapse.

Passed 8 to 0 with 1 abstention by motion at 12:38, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Nyttend,
This article is up for speedy deletion. You identified it as a survey township back in 2008. The only thing I can find about it is this building permit published online in 2014 or so by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
The speedy deletion tag is technically incorrect, as the WP:A7 doesn't apply to localities like survey townships. (I don't really understand what a survey township is, so to be quite honest, I'm guessing here.) I have WP:BOLDly decided, erm, not to do any at all about about the article.
What do you think about this? (The article, that is, not about my pusillanimous decision not to actually do anything.) Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:14, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Shxahxh (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

Hi Nyttend,

You recently blocked this user for persistent vandalism. Unfortunately, it seems to have been to no avail. As soon as the block expired, he decided to continue with the same disruptive editorial pattern. Its the typical stuff thats is extremely tiresome to deal with;

  • Never uses sources
  • Changes existing content without edit summary/sources[2]
  • When he's confronted, he just waits a bit, then returns making the same edit telling that "sources aren't needed"(f.e [3])
  • Changes existing content without edit summary to make it fit with his editorial POV (pro-Hazaras, pro-Persianising of the Hazaras (f.e [4]~-[5]-[6])
  • Never cares about warnings(f.e. [7])
  • Uses fake edit summaries (f.e. [8])

It is very easy to make good edits (i.e. fixing typos) on obscure subjects. It is also very easy to make bad ones, to make deliberately bad ones, to knowingly insert content ranging from distortions to blatant lies to make the articles follow your agenda. And it is easy for that faulty content to remain there because of the obscurity and specialization of the subject. Given the fact thats its 1) going on for a pretty long time 2) we see 0 improvement 3) he doesn't seem to care in the slightest, I think we can safely conclude that user "Shxahxh" with his editorial mission is simply WP:NOTHERE. - LouisAragon (talk) 17:12, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Um...

I'm hoping there is hilarity here - but generally, leaving a person blocked in this situation - not so good. [9] Any reason I shouldn't be unblocking immediately? WormTT(talk) 00:07, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Ah, Iridescent has unblocked. Can't say I'm impressed though. Randomly blocking users hasn't been an "in thing" for 10 years. WormTT(talk) 00:09, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Correct block?

Hi Nyttend, Did you mean to block Opabinia regalis as a joke or did you intend to block the Arbitration Committee account instead?

Seeing the above from Worm, you can disregard my question.

Nyttend, I have a stupid question and I thought you or one of your page lurkers could help out. I am in the process of expanding the WV State Capitol page, SURPRISE. ANYWAY, there are images on wiki commons that are Copyright free, HOWEVER, I would need to edit them to show a specific architectural feature of the Captiol building. Is this allowed?Coal town guy (talk) 02:02, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Thank you and Derivative it is, when I upload the derivative image, how do I denote that? I FINALLY got a copy of Cass Gilberts WV State Capitoland the texts on symbols in the dome are GREAT, and I do not have the camera required to get the jaw dropping detail you can get on the commons.Do you know of a specific example I can see so that I do not piss off the copyright tribe? BY THE WAY, great pics of Boone and Fayette Counties. I had the real world intrude and thus my next trip will be in May. I hope we get a person who has a pic of the Bloomingrose WV post Office.....Its just a cool name, isnt it?Coal town guy (talk) 02:27, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Help with photos?

A major reason for my commenting at Talk:Cleveland was to see if I could get a response from someone in the Cleveland area, so thank you :-) I see that Commons:Special:Contributions/Ryecatcher773 is almost empty, but if you have a camera and some time to drive, could you try to help with a project of mine? For the last three years, I've been working on illustrating all municipalities and townships in Ohio, and it's now 98% done (just 42 places remain out of 2,352 places), but as I don't live in Ohio anymore, it's rather hard to work on it now. My project page is User:Nyttend/Ohio; from there you can see that all of the counties with any un-illustrated locations either border Cuyahoga County or border the bordering counties. If you could contribute, it would be quite helpful. Nyttend (talk) 00:17, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

I would absolutely love to help you out, man... problem is, I currently live on the South Side of Chicago. Up until about a year ago, I was going back and forth regularly (monthly) to Cleveland. But that relationship hit the skids and now I'm not making the bee-line back home. I don't really foresee being in the area any time in the near future, however, if I do, I will definitely snap you some photos for the articles that need them. Cheers. Ryecatcher773 (talk) 05:11, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the response note. I, too, used to be in the area some; Cuyahoga County's done because I got pictures for all remaining communities a year ago, but I've since transferred to an in-town doctor because they're closer than my former doctors at the Cleveland Clinic. Do you know any active editors in northeast Ohio? Nyttend (talk) 13:11, 12 January 2018 (UTC)

Point of assistance

Looks like Winkelvi is back to casting aspersions again about literally policy-following administrative activity. Could you look at this and see what needs to be done? He seems to be thinking his continuously corrosive behavior is acceptable here, no matter how many blocks he's already received for such things in the past. Any help would be appreciated. Need Help :( I am being continuously Hounded and Harassed by User Hijiri88. I really need assistance.....

WP:ANI report was filed with the same wording five minutes after this thread was opened, closing per WP:FORUMSHOP. Beeblebrox (talk) 09:09, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

I really need help. This has gone too much for a small editor like me to handle. User User:Hijiri88 is Hounding WP:HOUND me, Harassing WP:HAR me, and threatening to permanently block me under false accusations. I tried to use the Administrator's Notice Board, but was not aware of using it properly.

Initially, I was dealing with content removal events on the page: Goguryeo. Editor User:Zanhe was blanking multiple phrases and multiple sources that supported them. He also altered the details of several statements to contradict or misrepresent the sources supporting them. For these reasons, I have accused him of vandalism (as well as other charges), warned him, and requested the article to be protected. The article itself has now been protected by another administrator who viewed my request. However, after the protection has taken place, User:Zanhe pinged User:Hijiri88 on the Goguryeo talk page. User:Hijiri88 has ever since supported User:Zanhe by claiming that my charges were "bogus", "illegitimate", and that 'it does not qualify for vandalism'. And now he is threatening to block me for "false accusations". Additionally, he threatened to block me for "personal attacks", simply because I acknowledged the pattern of him changing his words, simply ignoring certain details, and distorting sentences. He accused me of 'renaming talk page sections' and also threatened me for that - it was renamed, but it was renamed to a different neutral name because it was unorderly. However, on his talk page, it notices: "I reserve the right to remove all or part of any comment that I find personally offensive or that others have requested be removed". He surprisingly claimed my word, "Sinocentrism" to be 'racist' while he freely uses the phrase "Korean-Ethnonationalism". I simply cannot deal with this continuous and hypocritical all-denying behavior. It only appears to me that he is defending User:Zanhe while selecting me as a Hounding target simply because my reversals in Goguryeo (which is protected now) were contradictory to his own set of opinions and beliefs. I am in a great deal of need of assistance. Please help me get out of this faultless misery. Thanks. Discussion Links:here, here, and here Wandrative (talk) 05:42, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

No hounding. I noticed problematic behaviour from the above user, cautioned them about it (multiple times), and when they didn't listen I decided to check their contribs, at which point I found that the problems were endemic. This is definitely not hounding, per this definition (especially DGG's extra comment). I have no idea why you, Nyttend, were contacted, but if you have the time and inclination I would appreciate your examining the above user's recent behaviour (including repeated accusations of "vandalism", bogus warning templates, canvassing, forum-shopping, refusing to discuss article content on the article talk page, refusal despite repeated requests including from an admin - Bishonen - to withdraw a false accusation of TPO-violation and some other similar remarks, etc.), as I really don't need this hassle at the moment. Hijiri 88 (やや) 05:59, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
Huh. It seems the above user has never interacted with you before, which makes me think he came here because you blocked me two years ago. Thinking about how he could know that sends up red "hound" flags, and that this message was clearly sent in bad faith. If you're not going to look into their behaviour (and I totally understand if you don't want to), then I would encourage you to just close/hat/archive/blank this section. Hijiri 88 (やや) 06:19, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
The "problematic behaviors" are synthesized to hound me, and to systematically take me down simply because I don't adhere to his own opinion. You are not even defining what these "problematic behaviors" are in this section, unlike what I have written above. Hijiri 88 has a consistent practice of hounding and targeting multiple editors, until they write something that could potentially harm their integrity. Please have a closer investigation on Hijiri 88. All these accusations here written above are synthesized for false charges except for a slight excessive usage of warning templates. Blatantly lying about: "refusing to discuss article content on the article talk page", when did I even do so? You have contacted administrator Bishonen yourself, as well as a second one. Administrator Bishonen was not even involved in the majority of these things listed above. Wandrative (talk) 06:30, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

I don't think Nyttend's talk page is the proper venue to discuss the issue. The discussion is now on ANI, see thread. -Zanhe (talk) 06:58, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Citations Needed -- Mansoor Ijaz Article

Good morning Sir

Would you be kind enough to deal with the "Citations Needed" markups by GorgeCustersSabre on February 14th? All the citations are already in the article but I guess this Editor wants them up top in the preamble as well. If you need help locating what goes where, let me know and I will point you to the best source for that particular point of reference.

Many thanks, Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 13:20, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Good evening Nyttend,
Appreciate you taking time to deal with the Citations issue -- seems GorgeCustersSabre is still not happy. Do we really need an edit war on such a trivial topic in this article? Can you perhaps have a chat with the editor on his talk page to get this sorted? I feel your position is correct, but don't have the working knowledge of Wiki rules to say with certainty. Please advise.
Thanks, Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 23:30, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
The use of the words "edit war" is inappropriate. You are supposed to assume good faith. I have rights as an editor to exercise reasonable judgement. In my judgement the introduction is excessive. It's far too full of detail. In this case, citations would help, rather than having to sift through the content below. Best regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 03:17, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Nyttend, would you like to have a go at citing the relevant places noted by GorgeCustersSabre? Would it help if I went through and picked out the reference points for you to review? Or do you stand firm on your original stipulation? Please advise. Mansoor Ijaz (talk) 19:28, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
Mansoor Ijaz, there are only two situations in which we ought to have citations in the article introduction — stuff that's not mentioned elsewhere (e.g. a person's middle name) and stuff that really is hard to believe and needs to be proven immediately — and {{fact}} is inappropriate anywhere that a citation is inappropriate. Here, the objection seemed to be merely "it's a bit of work to find", which isn't a good enough reason, but I wasn't going to open an edit war, and I figured the whole matter was more easily dropped than discussed. The "far too full of detail" situation, however, is different; Gorge thinks the introduction's not written well enough. Gorge, why not just trim out the bits that you deem excessive? I'm still opposed to tagging or citing stuff in the introduction that's properly cited elsewhere, but I have no objection whatsoever to cutting extraneous stuff. For background information, Gorge, I helped Mansoor Ijaz several years ago on this article: he found it when it was in horrid shape, so he wanted to improve it, and basically he wrote stuff and I reviewed it for reliable sourcing, neutral content, etc. (and sometimes rewrote chunks), and when I was comfortable with the content being in mainspace, I moved it into the article. Nyttend (talk) 22:33, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Dear Nyttend, I hope you are well. Thank you for your advice. It’s helpful. Best regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 00:43, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Page Move

Hi Nyttend, Someone has moved the Siege of Jerusalem (70 CE) page to make an era change in the title (without raising a discussion) and I see that you have reversed this before for the same reasons. I reversed the talk page but not the article. Would you be able to complete this for me as I am not sure what I did wrong? Thanks.--CouncilConnect (talk) 11:06, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

@CouncilConnect: I find your very dishonest characterization that "someone" moved the page to "make an era change in the title (without raising a discussion)" quite disingenuous and offensive. The discussion and consensus for the move to Siege of Jerusalem (70 CE) is here at Talk:Siege of Jerusalem (70 CE)/Archive 1#Title of this article. I moved it on 6 February 2018‎, several months after the discussion petered out. Yesterday, 117 days after the last comment in the discussion, User:Runwayrollr tried to revert the move (but botched it by not actually doing a move), and pulled the old discussion out of the archive, and restarted the debate. I reverted, and invited them to start a new discussion on the talk page, pointing to WP:ARCHIVE: "When reopening a discussion is desired, links to archived discussions can be provided in the new discussion thread". Then CouncilConnect botched things up further (without, apparently, bothering to read the discussion in the archive). And I can't blame you Nyttend, nor User:WarKosign for being confused, since, as a result of the botching, the archive is now orphaned, so the previous discussion is no longer obvious. The article has been stable using using BCE/CE for more than a year (with even User:Drmies reverting era changes), and it's incongruous to have the title mismatching. I'll reiterate, from the discussion in the archive, it is not an arbitrary change, per MOS:ERA "there are reasons specific to its content", as a Second Temple era Judaic history topic, like Siege of Masada, or Dead Sea Scrolls, where BCE/CE is the norm and is also proscribed by the Society of Biblical Literature Handbook of Style (which certainly is not binding upon Wikipedia, however, neither is it irrelevant in the "reasons specific to its content" tenet of MOS:ERA, and certainly not a "personal or categorical preference for one era style over the other". Both Runwayrollr and CouncilConnect are neophytes with only 38, and 191 edits respectively, so I'm willing to cut them some slack, but neither of these users has made any contributions to the article in question, other than their drive-by era change. If consensus can be overturned months later and archived debate reopened, what good is a consensus? Yes, consensus can change, and if you feel more discussion on the issue is warranted, there is now a new discussion on the talk page. I'm weary of all the WP:BATTLEGROUND around here, and sometimes wonder why I volunteer here at all. Mojoworker (talk) 18:41, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Ugh. There's a good reason we have RM. CouncilConnect, credibility here does not come from one's name or affiliation, but from one's editorial record and soundness of argument. Mojoworker, I'm so full of chicken schnitzel and poblano gravy that it's a miracle I managed to make it from the kitchen to the couch, so I'm not going to touch this mess for now--and I'll leave it for my dear colleague Nyttend. :) Drmies (talk) 00:47, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Possible block evasion by Look2See1

Hello, Nyttend. I believe it's probable that User:Look2See1 is evading his/her block and has returned as an IP editor User:104.48.80.76. The IP editor has done 1500+ edits this month, showing immediate familiarity with WP. The IP editor also has characteristic edits I'm sure that you're familiar with:

Positioning commons boxes to the left, adding emdashes and italics to links: [10]
Adding bullets, bold, emdashes, and category links to category pages: [11]
Adding odd piped characters to strangely order pages in categories: [12]
Adding massive number of categories to pages: [13]

A few editors are starting to complain at User talk:104.48.80.76, but there is no response. Hope you can help. —hike395 (talk) 11:04, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Hike395, the first thing I did was checking this IP's edits at Commons, since Look2See1 made tons of mess there and only came here basically after getting indef-blocked there. This edit is conclusive: it's typical Look2See1, following a style nobody else ever uses. Nyttend (talk) 14:04, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
What do you suggest as a next step? Do we need to go to WP:SPI? —hike395 (talk) 14:22, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
No need; blatant socking is instantly blockable. Nyttend (talk) 11:27, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Plant categorization

Hi, I saw your correct reverts of some changes to the categorization of plant articles, but please look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Plants/Categorization#Taxonomic rank categories. Although I have my reservations, it's agreed at WP:PLANTS that articles on genera of plants should be given both a "taxonomic" category (e.g. Category:Plantaginaceae) and a "taxonomic rank" category (e.g. Category:Plantaginaceae genera). So some of the edits you reverted were at least partially correct. Peter coxhead (talk) 16:24, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Another problematic editor

Please see User talk:Caftaric#Categorization of plant articles by year of description. Caftaric is another editor who consistently creates new categories without any attempt to obtain consensus first, and without being willing to engage in much, if any, discussion – as you will see from their talk page. Some pressure from an admin to try to get this editor to initiate discussion at relevant wikiprojects before acting would be useful. Some of their work has been very useful, but in the absence of discussion, some is definitely not. Peter coxhead (talk) 12:31, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
