Hello, Thanks for your appreciation of my edits on the Team sport page. I am glad to have been able to contribute something to this particular 'Article for Improvement'. Another editor added some sports earlier today (& suggested nominating for DYK) & I am not at all certain whether they should be included. My feeling is that the article is really meant to be about wholly collective team sports such as football (all varieties), rugby, cricket, hockey etc. I felt I was stretching the point with my additions of motorsport, cycling and bobsleigh, & I kept off more dubious ones such as tennis (doubles) and darts — where a team of four would play 7 'rounds'. (4 singles, 2 pairs and 1 4-hander). Some sports have been added to the article which are really events for individuals (IMO) such as sprinting & wrestling. Although it is true to say that a group of individuals coming together to compete in an athletics event representing a school for example, would be called a team, it is not a team in the sense that the article basis would imply. I also left a tag requesting clarification as to how computer games could be thought of as team games, but this has been removed without being addressed as far as I can see. I did leave a message on the other editor's talk-page asking for clarification, but haven't had a response as yet. Sorry, rambled on long enough: I wonder if you have time, if you could have a look at the article again and see what you think about the most recent additions — or even mine! Thanks. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 01:06, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Eagleash: I may pass on becoming involved in this matter. I only made a few minor edits to the article, and I'm not terribly interested in it. I recommend basing the article upon what reliable sources define/characterize as "team sports." I also recommend initiating a discussion on the article's talk page regarding your concerns, where it will receive more eyes from those interested in the topic. An Absinthe for you! Hafspajen (talk) 10:41, 26 October 2015 (UTC) |
- @Hafspajen: Absinthe is now available to U.S. consumers, although I'm not sure if it's available in all U.S. states or not. Turns out that its initial demonization was not based upon sound science (see Thujone § History), and rather, upon speculation and elements of fear mongering from a biased source who was against alcohol consumption in general. Strange how one person's biased beliefs can contribute to significantly hinder the availability of a perfectly safe beverage for the masses. North America1000 20:33, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, they say so...
- This painting above could work, if it only had an article. Press details, there is good info to start with.https://www.google.com/culturalinstitute/asset-viewer/christ-in-the-house-of-martha-and-mary/0QFDb6g5E0YIbg Hafspajen (talk) 13:48, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- This one, from your category I think you could nominate it as a FP: ->File:Pieter de Hooch - A Man Smoking and a Woman Drinking in a Courtyard -1658-1660.jpg. It might pass. Do you know how to nominate? I can help... Hafspajen (talk) 14:51, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Hafspajen: Thanks for the information and suggestions. Yes, I'm familiar with the Wikipedia:Featured picture criteria, but I'm rather busy working on other stuff. Since you specialize in FP matters, I figured I'd bring some stuff to your attention (on your talk page). North America1000 04:55, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

The cornucopia pic could work, if only you use this version. File:Peter Paul Rubens - Abundance (Abundantia) - Google Art Project.jpg...The other file is only 500pxX 700px or so. The requirements are MINIMUM 1500px X 1500px. Considering the sive of the painting, people will frown even to that size. This one is (2,490 × 3,764 pixels, it's quite good. The market woman is great, good size and a very nice picture ... but ... the head of the woman is cut off, that will be a problem.... Hafspajen (talk) 14:50, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Hafspajen: I'm still in the ideation phase regarding all of this, I think... I appreciate your thoughtful input. I appreciate art, so it's all refreshing; an aspect of Wikipedia I haven't contributed to much. Regardless, Market Scene rocks. North America1000 15:02, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

- No canvassing on my talk page. I think the image you propose doesn't quite past muster. A bit blurry, on blurry canvas. Is it historically significant? North America1000 16:48, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- No no canvasing, just I got the impression you can't find it. Well, that's that then. No, the image is not significant, the artist is. Hafspajen (talk) 16:59, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Also it is a sketch (drawing) , we don't have many of those. Could have been interesting to nominate it and see what happens.Hafspajen (talk) 17:07, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- I think I will add it to the nominations anyway. If you change your mind, you can always sign it... Hafspajen (talk) 17:16, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
TAFI
I am not sure, but per the new rules at TAFI about the number of noms with over 100 views and 2 net supports several more articles could be approved. Might be wrong.--BabbaQ (talk) 07:29, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Thanks for the notification. I wonder when this rule was created, as I don't recall any discussion about it on the talk page. Seems like it could be problematic, whereby the project could have too many articles, and thus some may not actually be improved much. Lack of article improvement sometimes occurred when the project had ten weekly selections, with some articles receiving no improvements. North America1000 07:33, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- I think it was created after I suggested it was hard to get 3 net supports because of very little activity at the nom page. So I made a suggestion at the talk page that 2 Supports would be enough, and another user then implemented this rule about 100 views etc. Well, in my personal opinion articles will just have to wait as we have 1 article a week. But we could start a discussion at the projects talk page about it of you find it problematic. But on the other hand we have a sort of consensus under the current rules that the articles nominated right now and Supported by Two users are good to go. But I hear you.... It could be problematic. --BabbaQ (talk) 09:13, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- I have brought the issue up at the General discussion at TAFI. I think it is better if we remove that rule from the nomination page as it isnt implemented and it makes everyone confused. You can support or oppose if you find time for it today:) Thanks.--BabbaQ (talk) 06:54, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

TAFI noms
As you have probably seen by now, after a long absence from TAFI (while I headed over to the Wikiproject:Video games space for a bit), I have returned to TAFI and tried to start a big push to get things moving again. One of the things I've done is add a lot of nominations to the Nom pages, because it was quite bare and I noticed many of the already-approved articles were not things I would be interesting in editing. If you have a spare moment, may I suggest browsing the nom page and Supporting/Opposing any of my noms? Right now the majority are in a 2-Support limbo.
Cheers. It's good to be back. :D (Perhaps you could also help me with the social media status update side).--Coin945 (talk) 07:59, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Coin945: I spent some time coordinating the weekly voting on the project's talk page, and have recently intentionally limited myself from managing the project too much, because there are other matters I want to focus my efforts upon (e.g. creating new articles, such as Coffee and doughnuts I created today). Also, my time available to be on Wikipedia fluctuates at times, due to real life stuff and also when my internet connection blacks out. As such, I welcome you in stepping in to help keep things on track. There's often a lot to do, such as approving nominations, adding them to the article list, adding entries to the schedule, adding images and captions for weekly entries, etc. I typically review the TAFI nom page from time-to-time, so that's already being performed. North America1000 09:02, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- That is understandable. It shouldn't take that much physical work though... I'm sure we could get the people at Villagepump:Technical to write some bots to do things like automatically archive Noms that have gotten 3 supports. Theres no reason for you to overwork yourself. :)--Coin945 (talk) 09:07, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Coin945: Actually, nominations with the {{approved}}, {{unapproved}} and other templates are already archived by ClueBot III . North America1000 09:09, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- But, if you decided today to leave Wikipedia and not come back, what sorts of things wouldn't get done in the TAFI project that simply require the human touch at the moment? I'm assuming the answer is higher than it has to be.--Coin945 (talk) 09:11, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- (also, really nice work with coffee and doughnuts. :D--Coin945 (talk) 09:14, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

@Coin945:
TAFI activities
- Adding templates to approved/unapproved nominations
- Updating the articles for improvement page, including the addition of new approved entries and removing entries that are scheduled
- Scheduling, including creating/populating the necessary subpages, writing captions, adding images
- Updating project accomplishments
- Periodic updates to the automation and templates page as needed
- Periodically checking the members page to make sure things are properly formatted
- Fixing template errors that occur from time-to-time.
– Thanks for the kudos about the new article. North America1000 09:19, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Very interesting... Would you mind if I posted this list to Villagepump:Technical to see if there was any way to lessen your load?--Coin945 (talk) 09:25, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
@Coin945:
Sure, and please let me know if you do, with a link. Here's more to add to the list below:
- Updating project pages periodically when project processes change, such as instructions and templates
- Promoting the project by sending invitations – {{Today's article for improvement invitation}}
- Notify Wikiprojects when articles within their scope are a weekly selection – {{TAFI project notice}}
- Update article talk pages when collaborations have finished – {{Former TAFI}}. This has not been performed lately.
- Removing {{TAFI}} from atop articles when collaborations have concluded. The template is added by Theo's Little Bot, but it appears that it must be manually removed. User:EuroCarGT has been diligently removing the template weekly for quite some time, which is appreciated.
- Sending weekly notifications to users on the notifications list. This is typically done using mass messaging.
– Again, I'm looking to reduce my time managing TAFI, so if such a discussion occurs at VP, I may not become involved. North America1000 09:39, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
TAFI management
@Coin945: I have created a Project management section on the project's main page (near the end of the page), which has a link to Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement/Project management, which includes all of the points above. I have reordered the content on the new project management page. North America1000 09:47, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Village pump: Technical discussion
- I have begun a discussion there, and tagged you. You may have to explain in a little more detail the tasks you do to ensure the VP people create viable solutions that substitute what you currently do. :)--Coin945 (talk) 10:05, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
AfD sorts
Hi. I notice that you, and other editors, will list AfD discussions in different places in order to draw in more interested/knowledgeable editors. Is there something I should be doing when I do make an AfD nomination that I am not doing? My goal isn't to create more work for other editors. Onel5969 TT me 15:33, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Onel5969: It's not required to provide deletion sorting when nominating an article for deletion, and from my experience, most nominators don't do so. If you're interested in contributing in this manner, check out WikiProject Deletion sorting. North America1000 15:42, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)@Onel5969: you can read User:Fox Wilson/delsort, and can install script in your subpage like I did User:Human3015/common.js. Then you can click on "move" option of an AfD discussion and list that discussion anywhere. You can see Category:Wikipedia deletion sorting for various deletion threads. --Human3015TALK 15:57, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's pretty neat. Will try to help out in this area. Always good to get better consensus. Onel5969 TT me 16:47, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Portal:Global warming/Selected article
Hi Northamerica1000, thanks for the Halloween cheer !
Thank you very much for creating Portal:Global warming.
Did you have a specific parameter in mind for Portal:Global warming/Selected article ?

What do you think ?
Thanks again very much for taking on the effort to create Portal:Global warming.
Much appreciated,
— Cirt (talk) 04:12, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
@Cirt: I didn't create the portal, but I significantly expanded it in late 2011. Nice articles; they're neutral in tone and informative. Have you nominated Climate Change Denial: Heads in the Sand for DYK? It certainly qualifies at this time. With only 13 entries, the portal's selected articles would certainly benefit from more articles, and I welcome you to add these book articles to the list. North America1000 04:54, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your kind words about my new article Wikipedia contributions and my NPOV writing style, I really appreciate that very much !!! I generally don't nominate to DYK these days, and I'll defer to your judgment on both that and if you wish to add these to Portal:Global warming. Feel free to keep me posted on what you decide to do with them. Thank you, — Cirt (talk) 04:56, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Company Brandnames
Hi. I notice that you are on the Wikiproject brandnames group and that in the past you have removed brandnames from food corporation articles, but I was unable to discern any consistent logic for the specific instance of removal (Schwan Foods), so I was trying to find out if there is any criterion for inclusion or removal of brandnames from Wikipedia articles on food corporations? I want to restore the information as it seems pertinent and useful but not if it will be repealed. As you are a Wikipedia Administrator and Administrators are the decisionmakers for the Rule of Law on Wikipedia, I am trying to ascertain to what extent we can post brandnames for products manufactured by food corporations. Could you please explain what is allowed and what is not? Thank you for any information that you can impart. Stevenmitchell (talk) 04:41, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Stevenmitchell: I don't recall having removed brand names from articles recently, and I have not done so at Schwan Food Company. I have actually created articles about brands, such as List of Italian brands. Regarding products, which typically use brand names, check out WP:PRODUCT for some information. Many company articles list company brands within them. I have seen instances where people remove content per WP:NOTDIRECTORY, particularly for very long brand listings, and other instances where the content remains in place. Brands that have their own standalone articles are typically okay to list in a company article. North America1000 05:02, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hi. First of all, I apologize. I am completely wrong. You did not perform the edit that I suggested you did. In fact, it was another user that did those changes (I am One of Many). I am not sure why I confused your edits with that of this other editor. I am sorry that I took up your time with an erroneous association. I do thank you, however, for the time you spent reviewing what you have done on the page and for the observations you imparted as to what is acceptable and standard for these pages. Thank you again for your help and quick reply. You seem to be extraordinarily active here. Regards, Steve. Stevenmitchell (talk) 05:00, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Admin help
I nominated this one at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Tao of Programming (2nd nomination) -- then did a bit more due diligence research on my own and determined there's a smattering of secondary source coverage, that is, at the very least.
I withdrew the nomination.
Could you please close it, as withdrawn ?

DYK for Melon soup
On 30 October 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Melon soup, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that several varieties of melon soup exist, such as bitter melon soup, cantaloupe soup, and winter melon soup? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Melon soup. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Replaceable fair use File:John's Pizzeria signage and logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:John's Pizzeria signage and logo.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 19:38, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:I Want One of Those logo.png
Thanks for uploading File:I Want One of Those logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:26, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
