Can you help us please ?
Hello Nihonjoe. We'd like to have published on ja.Wikipedia a page re an international artistic movement founded in Italy. A Japanese friend has partly translated it: can we send it to you in order to see if you can refine and complete it for the publication ? We'd be much obliged! Thanks a lot--Aeron10 (talk) 04:29, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Mucking up the page
Hi, just wanted you to know that I wasn't trying to muck up the page. I had noticed a few days ago that someone has but some kind of bold header saying some pretty unsavory things up at the top. I was just trying to take that down, I don't know if I did it the right way? Sorry about that! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.218.86.128 (talk) 16:54, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

BLP Issues
I came across your name via the Highly Active Users board. Through NPP, I have recently come across another editor User:Peripatetic that has a long history of creating BLP articles that lack any references. I flagged one of his articles with a BLP Prod and he responded stating that he has created hundreds of articles and he has never been very good at adding refs, so he doesn't do it. He started a conversation on my talkpage, in which another editor has participated and stated his concerns as well. User:Peripatetic's talkpage is full of ignored warnings from individuals and bots regarding the failure to add refs on BLPs. What recourse do we have to enforce compliance with the policy regarding BLPs? Thanks. Cindamuse (talk) 02:52, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- While I can understand the importance of sourcing articles, especially BLPs, I also think it's important to not waste so much time trying to force someone into doing something they admit they are not good at. I would recommend instead spending time adding to their additions and helping to source the articles. That's what Wikipedia is all about, after all: a collaborative encyclopedia with articles written by multiple people. If he's not understanding, then go and try to source the article. If you can't, then tag it as needing sources. Only do that after making an honest effort to actually source it, though. Doing anything else is not helping the effort. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:55, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Puzzling response. Ensuring adherence to policy is not a waste of time, and certainly should not be dismissed by a Wikipedia Administrator. You may want to spend some time reviewing the policy, which can be found here. References indicate the "source" of the material used to write the article. It is inappropriate and impossible to ascertain where another author found the information s/he used in the article. This is the responsibility of the author of the article. While I often assist in bringing articles into compliance with guidelines and policy, this lack is an egregious violation of the policy pertaining to hundreds of BLPs. I prefer not to condone the violation of policy. The policy to not create unreferenced BLP articles is there for a purpose. Disregarding the policy is a disgrace. Regards, Cindamuse (talk) 06:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Not puzzling at all. What you appear to want is extreme enforcement to the detriment of all else. That's just plain unworkable. Rather than drive-by tagging, it's far more effective to see if you can find sources to match the information in the article first, and if you're unable to do so, then tag it appropriately. Rote adherence to policy is not the end-all, be-all of Wikipedia. We should instead be working with the spirit of the policy lest we become mere bots. And as I said, we are all authors here; heaping all responsibility on only the person who created the article is absurd. One thing you might try (which I can't see that you've done at all to this point, though I may have missed it) is to request that Peripatetic at least list, either in a References section or on the talk page of the article in question, where he obtained the information in the articles. It doesn't need to be formatted properly or anything. This allows those more familiar with how references should be formatted to go through and format them properly and place them in the article appropriately. And then, if no references can be found, tag the articles appropriately. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 06:35, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Adherence to policy is not only workable, it's required. I'm not the only editor that has been essentially walking behind this horse in the parade and cleaning up his mess. Others are frustrated as well. Thought you might be able to help in this situation. Sorry to have bothered you. Regards, Cindamuse (talk) 06:56, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Are you wanting Peripatetic blocked? Warned? I have now placed a warning on his page. Hopefully that will get the result you desire. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:24, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- I have no desire to see anyone blocked. Peripatetic states that s/he has created hundreds of articles. My concern is that these BLP articles have been added in violation of policy, lacking references. My desire is that Peripatetic would appropriately comply with policy by providing at least one reliable source to support the articles that s/he writes. My request (as well as the request of others) is cooperation and collaboration, of which both have been dismissed by Peripatetic. The motive of my approach on your talkpage was to inquire about the process. A noticeboard or something of that nature directing these questions to specific admins that are familiar with BLP issues. Peripatetic's refusal to provide references for BLPs that s/he writes goes back two years. I have communicated along with other editors, in an attempt to request sources from Peripatetic and address the lack of references, to no avail. I have provided numerous references and improved hundreds of articles. My question pertained to process and recourse, after other efforts have failed. Cindamuse (talk) 10:15, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Aha, I guess I didn't understand that from your request. Are you aware of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard? That's a good place to get more eyes on a concern like this. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 23:33, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

- Also, I'm not sure what you are referencing in option "b". Will you explain? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 01:45, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
It references something that this now reminds me is the job of a steward, not a bureaucrat. Bureaucrats turn out to have remarkably few special roles/abilities, which makes me wonder again about why there's such an enormous kerfuffle about whether or not somebody should become one. (A ripple from the "Essjay" debacle, perhaps?) ¶ Here's another (a)-(b)-(c) of mine for you. If you're not particularly interested in Obama, so much the better: although a number of the regulars on that page do work there that's mostly or exclusively excellent, I've often thought that the attention of a few more unprejudiced and dispassionate people there would be welcome. -- Hoary (talk) 06:47, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Questions
Hello! I saw your name under HAU, and it lists you as being experienced with content. I have a few questions about Good Articles, specifically WP:GACR. First, are there any size requirements for GAs? And secondly, what's the optimal amount of pictures that a GA should have? GACR reccomends images, "if possible", but is it possible for an article to be a GA without any pictures, if none are available online?--hkr Laozi speak 12:39, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's possible, but not likely. I don't know of any good articles which have no pictures whatsoever. There are many good articles which have only one picture, but those tend to be about topics where all the images which could be used would be fair use images. As for size requirements, there is nothing specific other than that the article should be fairly complete and cover the topic well without any glaring omissions. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 15:42, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Akio Nakamori
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Akio Nakamori requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. --Nuujinn (talk) 19:53, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Nomination of Akio Nakamori for deletion
A discussion has begun about whether the article Akio Nakamori, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Akio Nakamori until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. --Nuujinn (talk) 21:21, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Odd user login problem
I've been contacted by Concertphotos (talk · contribs), formerly Festivalphotos (talk · contribs), whose username you changed. He gets "Login error. There is no user by the name "Concertphotos". User names are case sensitive. Check your spelling, or create a new account." when he tries to log in. He has (once) successfully used the account but has since consistently gotten this message. I've offered the usual suggestions about spelling, trying different browsers, clearing caches, etc., and they seem to be sufficiently clued that they've tried the obvious remedies themselves. They can't get into Commons or svwiki either. Do you have any ideas? The login sequence is definitely not my area (and maybe not yours either, but suggestions on who might understand it would be welcome).I'm posting as well at WP:VP/T. I've suggested just creating a new account, but thought I'd see if there's a known issue. Acroterion (talk) 03:53, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

This is my second time of a sucsessfull inlog and that is very confusing. What could the problem be? Concertphotos (talk) 13:41, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- Now they can't get in again, according to email. I've suggested using an entirely different computer, seems like something odd with the browser. Acroterion (talk) 14:16, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've creatade a new account now this seems to work fine. I have tried to log in with 3 different computers and I can log in at the festivalphoto account every time without problems on all 3 computers, just the Concertphotos account that is giving the error-message. This new acount is working just fine. So there must be some specific problem with the Concertphotos account, the problem is not with the browser or something like that. Japanese Warrior and history Articles
I've been interested in tightening up the Japanese history articles for a while, and might now really have the time, but don't know "where" the page(s) are that contain the groups of people who work on them. I'm just leaving a note here because I've seen you on various related discussion pages. Where do I find the people that actively work on them? - Well there are the following pages for a start:
- You can also find many people who watch Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Japan, so posting a message there might be helpful. I recommend taking things slowly, though, and not doing any wholesale deletion nominations or anything as that will likely get people riled up. If you think something should be done (other than general clean up editing and tightening and sourcing of content), please be sure to discuss it first. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:35, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

It's not my fault if someone arbitrarily says a discussion is over when it isn't, or if I'm banned on a whim for no reason. If Wikipedia suffers from great disorganization and as a community is dysfunctional, regardless of whether you will admit it or not, I'm not here to be a scapegoat for its problems. And Ed, the filter you're talking about doesn't catch long-term abuse, it's just a junk software that detects hard-to-define-as-wrong keywords and then doesn't tell you what keywords it doesn't like when it disallows your edits. Since I can't continue a discussion once someone decides that it's over, may I create a new discussion log for the renaming? You've created yet another sock account knowing full well you have been told you are not welcome to edit here as we can't trust you to abide by the policies and guidelines of the site. You edited a discussion which was clearly marked as closed, ignoring the very clear notices that the discussion was closed and should not be edited. - A more honest response from you would have been: 'This is the internet so I can say what I want about you, do what I want to you, all while remaining anonymous, knowing there is no such thing as consequence. I have special rights on Wikipedia that carry no accountability, I begrudge easily, and I am an e-slave, so you should have expected this would happen.' Would you be unafraid to approach me in real life, explain to me how I'm responsible for your conduct on Wikipedia, and that I shouldn't have the right to request a name change on the internet? Would you be willing to face the consequence of revealing your identity, and the consequences that would follow, or would you instead remain anonymous and get away with doing anything? Are you really going to admit that you're no better than the rest of the internet: that you're that far beneath real people like myself? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.129.135.233 (talk) 05:41, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Sea of Japan naming dispute
Hello. Interested to hear why you have systematically been unlinking this article. Linking is currently serving a very useful purpose, which is stop people taking the naming dispute to other articles. i.e. linking the term is a simple way to keep the naming debate focused on one article instead of it boiling over to every other article that uses the term, and to illustrate which name is in current usage at Wikipedia. Socrates2008 (Talk) 21:00, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

What would be the correct place for the discussion? The only way I can think of doing it right would be to split it up and have 1 proposed change on the WP:REDIRECT talk page and the other on the WP:Disambiguation talk page. It just seems that that solution would be overly bureaucratic since it's really just procedural and will disrupt the debate at WP:Article titles. What do you think? WikiProject East Asia
Hello there. I noticed that you are, to say the least, an integral part of WikiProject Japan, and wanted to invite you to join a related project, WikiProject East Asia, a mid-level scope project that aims to improve coverage of the region as a whole, and the interactions of the parties therein (which, of course, includes Japan.) Seeing as you founded WikiProject Japan, I figure would have valuable experience in setting up new WikiProjects, of which WikiProject East Asia certainly is. Also, seeing as you work extensively in portals, and East Asia does not currently have a portal, I see another area where you could be of great help.
Therefore, I am extending this formal invitation to you:
Another editor has noticed your contributions to articles related to East Asia, and would like to invite you to join WikiProject East Asia, a collaborative effort to improve coverage of East Asia on Wikipedia. |
If you know of anyone else that might be interested in the project, feel free to pass on the message to them as well.
Finally, if you do decide to join, or at the very least are willing to offer me advice on setting up the portal for East Asia or building a new WikiProject, my talk page is always open. Drop me a message and I'll be happy to have any help you are willing to give. I also can meet on IRC if you prefer that method of conversation.
Thank you for your consideration,

WikiProject East Asia Scope & Ratings
Hello. This message is to inform you that I have called for a reexamination of the scope document and the ratings system used by the project. The ratings system especially has run into problems and could benefit from a simplification and generalizations. The scope, too, could be reexamined to the same end. Please come to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject East Asia and discuss the matters so that we can reach a community consensus. I'd like to have it done before Christmas, so I can spend the break making any necessary changes. The importance discussion is at the top of the page. The scope discussion is at the bottom, but we can move them together if we need to.
Thank you, Sven Manguard Wha? 07:16, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
more MOSJA nonsense
Apparently it violates WP:AT, now, at least when it comes to User:Pmanderson's opinion. I've started a thread on WT:MOS-JA about my modifications of the guideline to change "trade name" to "form used personally and professionally".—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 21:48, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
And now this.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 02:08, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Joe, your opinions at WT:MOS-JA#Names of modern figures would be helpful to provide some insight from someone who actively participates in writing Japanese articles, rather than Septrionalis' bull in a china shop method of determining what is and what is not against policy.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 01:56, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Modern Art/My Little Brother
Hi Ninhonjoe, I just noticed that back in April you deleted Modern Art/My Little Brother with motivation "Non-notable music by artist with no Wikipedia article". I don't know in which state THAT article was when you deleted it, but you may want to check out better before deleting something, since the artist IS notable and DOES have a Wikipedia article :) --WikiKiwi (askme) 04:13, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- That's how it was tagged, and the article had no links in it. I could restore it, but there's nothing in it other than a track listing. Do you want me to restore it so you can work on it? Also, there's no reason to yell at me (CAPS). Thanks. :) ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 04:48, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry mate, I just were in a hurry and used caps to emphasize my writing... If it doesn't bother you please restore the article in my sandbox. I'm not sure I'll work on it soon since I'm more active on itwiki, but I'll take a look! --WikiKiwi (askme) 05:29, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Please note these edits to the talk page of this indef blocked user, formerly known as User:Free Belarus, who you blocked back in March. It appears to be from the blocked editor, using an IP. Karl-a-mon username change
I requested my username to be changed from Karl-a-mon to Karlamon because I just wanted the hyphens removed to match my other usernames. I am not changing it for promotional purposes because I stopped Karlamon9 Productions some time ago and don't intend to use or continue with it. I want it to partly match my Wikia username which is Karlamon9. Thanks.--Karlamon (Talk • Contributions) 21:51, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- As per the edit notice on my page (which you would have seen when you added this section here), please take your argument to WP:CHUS. This is not the place to discuss this. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 21:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Verifiability/Use English/Burden conflated with content issues
Nihonjoe -- On one hand, Mentoring Tenmei was a failure because we didn't develop plausible strategies for averting the problem which has developed here at Talk:List of tributaries of Imperial China#Cite does not verify asserted "facts".
- In 2009, I foresaw a set of prospective issues recurring ad nauseam; and I sought help here. The counter-intuitive result was ArbCom punishment in order to molify the indignant, extravagant complaints of Caspian blue and Teeninvestor.
- In 2010, Mentorship did not address the questions with which I began nor did the investment of time encompass averting recidivism. Regrettably, my writing and weekly status reports for mentors remained opaque. I didn't manage to ask for help in a way that made responding easy or possible.
On the other hand, Mentoring Tenmei was a success because both Caspian blue and Teeninvestor appear to have withdrawn from Wikipedia, and I'm still here to address the kinds of questions their edits and strategies inspired. In their absence, WP:Verifiability/WP:Use English/WP:Burden will continue to be conflated with content issues; but my comments and questions are less likely to be misconstrued as personal attacks.
Nihonjoe -- Now that the formal mentorship period has ended, are you willing to help me develop a strategy for dealing with problems I expect to recur. These do not appear to be conventional in the editing experiences of everyone. This may be unique to East Asian topics and contributors; and if so, your perspective is all the more valuable.
I predict that problems like the one here will persist and increase in the foreseeable future -- not because this is a self-fulfilling prophesy -- but because of developments in East Asia and because of the nature of our collaborative context. This category includes the stale problems I discovered with Caspian blue at Talk:Joseon Tongsinsa/Archive 1 and also similar to what I encountered with Teeninvestor at Talk:Tang Dynasty in Inner Asia/Archive 1.
I do not invite your intervention in any specific dispute thread. Rather, I'm looking for the rare tweaks and parsing and analysis you choose to offer.
- Looking backwards — "How was it possible for any dispute with Historiographer to have been averted?
- Looking ahead — How can I short-circuit a developing dispute in the future?
The response I'm looking for is binary: "yes" or "no"?
If you're no longer interested in this kind of open-ended activity, please accept my sincere thanks for the help you've already offered. --Tenmei (talk) 20:15, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- I think the best kind of help I can give you is to be available should you run into an issue of one sort or another. If you have a question, please ask it here (or point me to the page where your question is). I think you ultimately have the good of the project at heart, but you have difficulty expressing yourself concisely. I'm available to help should you need it. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 06:22, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you check on a renamed user?
Hi Nihonjoe, could I ask you to check on a rename you processed? Something weird's come up since ICIWORLD was renamed to Hojuhanguk; his edits are now showing up under ICIWORLD's edit history.
After user got renamed (15:36, 21 December 2010), the edit history prior to the 21st was apparently moved over, but then somehow ICIWORLD got "created automatically" again (16:18, 21 December 2010) and then ICIWORLD was blocked and unblocked by OrangeMike (22:43-5, 21 December 2010) who said he was still waiting on the name change. Now the user seems to get logged in as ICIWORLD (that's how the edits are showing up in any case). Any ideas? Thanks, -- Joren (talk) 03:45, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- If he recreated the account, then he may need a developer to manually move the edits over. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 07:20, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- Seems like most logs say "new user account" when the user registers, but this one says "account created automatically." Wonder what happened? Do you think the four edits made as ICIWORLD are worth getting a dev to move over again? Anyway, he successfully logged out and logged in and now it's showing up as Hojuhanguk, the new user. Can/should you or someone else block the old ICIWORLD one now so it doesn't get used again? Thanks,
- -- Joren (talk) 23:48, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- There's no reason to block it unless there's some evidence it will be used abusively. "Account created automatically" means he was logged in as ICIWORLD on another Wikimedia site and then visited the English Wikipedia. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:04, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, ok. That makes sense... unfortunate though, because it means this is gonna happen every time the user switches back and forth between wikis. I'm not concerned about abuse as much I am about *accidental* abuse... his username failed the username policy, because it was being used as a WP:CORPNAME, and if he goes back to using it (accidentally or not) someone might flag it again. I'd see a block on ICIWORLD as a courtesy to the user more than anything else... Anyway, I'll communicate to ICIWORLD/Hojuhanguk that they need to be careful switching between projects. Thanks for your help,
- -- Joren (talk) 05:11, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- They just need to request username changes on all the various wikis where they have the old username. I agree with you on the username and I've blocked it now. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:16, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, ok then; it's probably for the best. I've already communicated that they might want to rename their accounts on other wikis. Thanks again for your help,

Hello, I was about to start a deletion discussion for Kazumi Amemiya, an article that you created. Currently it is an unsourced BLP and I have been unable to find reliable sources to add to the article. Perhaps you have access to sources? Happy Holidays J04n(talk page) 13:32, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
The article Kazumi Amemiya has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Notability concerns. Can't find reliable, secondary sources to demonstrate the notability of this voice actor via WP:GNG.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. j⚛e deckertalk 22:34, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
