Character designer segment in anime infobox

I've been thinking about adding an optional "character designer" segment within the anime infobox. It's certainly one of the three most important figures in animation production, and is a prominent part of the Japanese wikipedia's anime infobox. I think it's high time we incorporate it as well. What do you think of the idea? ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 07:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

It would be better to ask about this at Template talk:Infobox animanga, where more people will see it. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 23:07, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I think that's a good idea, and I agree with Dinoguy that the discussion should be over on the infobox page. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:04, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I've accordingly begun a topic there. ···巌流? · talk to ganryuu 06:22, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello! This role has been nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards and the most recent Entertainment Weekly has a page with out of universe comments from the magazine and actress about the character. Could you kindly undelete the article so I can see if it can be improved due to the Academy Award coverage in EW and elsewhere or to at least see if anything is mergeable and redirectable. Thanks! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 18:49, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I recommend creating a version of the article in your userspace. Once you have something that will work, let me know and I'll see about undeleting it. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:28, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
If you would like to undelete what was there and move it in my userspace to work on, that is fine as I prefer to have a basis to build off of. I can then use what I have and if you think it can be moved back, then we can do so. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 06:31, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Done. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:23, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Locating and acquiring reference materials

Hello Hihonjoe. I've been working to located decent reference materials whether on-line or hard copy. I've read the books by Susan Napier and Frederick L. Schodt. I see several of the references listed are in Japanese. I wondering which is a good one to begin with and how did you get a hold of them. My Japaneses isn't the greatest, however I working to have it get better. If you can recommend a decent dictionary to go with the materials let me know.

I used to have subscriptions to Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat. I occassionally pick-up copies of Otaku USA and Newtype USA to read. The local library in my town has subscriptions to these magazines.

How do I use these magazines as references? Sheshed (talk) 15:51, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

I recommend using the {{cite}} series of templates. For magazines, use the {{cite journal}} template within <ref></ref> tags. You can see examples of this in articles such as Aardman Animations (see ref 1) and Lolicon (there are a lot of examples throughout the article). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:06, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Thank-you Nihonjoe I'll practice with them on my discussion page Sheshed (talk) 19:34, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

CSD of wavepad

How can a mere editor tell that a reborn version of a deleted article is similar enough for a CSD? Greglocock (talk) 09:08, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Ask an admin and they can check. Also, there are no "mere" editors here. Everyone is an editor, and being an admin doesn't make you any more special than anyone else. You just have a few more tools you can use to keep things running smoothly. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:32, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
As I suspected, and I am not impressed at all. If you have special tools then when you exert them you should also take special responsibility for the outcome.Greglocock (talk) 03:51, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Okay, so is there an issue here, or are you just beating around the bush for no reason? Your comments are very cryptic, seeming to imply some sort of problem, but not coming out and actually stating any sort of concern. If you let me know what your concern is, I'll be happy to address it, but you'll need to be far more specific than you have been up to this point. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:53, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
Well think about the history, from our perspective, as editors . We raise a PROD because it is an ad, in accordance with PROD process. Told we can't prod because it's been deleted before (which we couldn't see). We then raise a CSD because it is a recreation of a deleted article (incidentally it is still an ad), in accordance with CSD process. You come along and tell us that we can't use CSD because it is a different article to the one that was deleted (which we can't see). Now, one way or another that is half an hour of stuffing around on wiki that has got no one precisely anywhere, and requires access to hidden information at EVERY step. Hence my frustration. Greglocock (talk) 04:20, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry if it's frustrating. If you have problems in the future, feel free to ask an admin to look at things you may not be able to see. And if it's still an ad, tag it with {{advert}}. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Many of these templates were placed even back in 2005 and 2006 so they are no longer useful, so some of them I have been removing. 1. GoldWave
  2. AVS Video Converter
  3. FlexiMusic Wave Editor
  4. Fast Edit
  5. REAPER
  6. Total Recorder
  7. Renoise
  8. WaveLab
  9. Pro Tools
  10. Orion Platinum

... and so on. A rangeblock you made

Hi there. On December 30, 2008, you blocked an IP range. Recently, at the ACC, we got an account request from that range. I looked into the range that you blocked, and I found no contributions from it. Can I please ask you why you blocked that range and if it is OK to go ahead with the account creation? NuclearWarfare (Talk) 02:26, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I have since made the account because the range block (disregarding the above) concerned was not an account creation block.   «l| Ψrometheăn ™|l»  (talk) 04:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, none of the rangeblocks I've done prevent anyone from creating an account, but rather from editing anonymously due to extensive vandalism from that range. You won't ever find any contributions from a range, either, as it's only individual IPs within the range, not the range itself, which are doing the vandalism. The rangeblock just prevents any IP from that range from editing anonymously. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:39, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I believe he's using the CDIR gadget, which allows for contribution searches on IP ranges. Personally, I don't see any contributions on the range either. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 21:59, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
I've never heard of that tool, so I have no way to look at that. I've unblocked since the two of you are insisting there are no contribs from that range. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:28, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
It's under the Gadgets tab of Special:Preferences, in the "User interface gadgets" section - the specific gadget has the description "Allow /16 and /24 – /32 CIDR ranges on Special:Contributions forms (uses API), as well as wildcard prefix searches, e.g., "Splark*". (Please report any issues here.)", though now that I read it, it sounds like /18 is unsupported in the gadget version...? ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 17:18, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to keep finding things to ask you, but I've got another. Now ANN's encyclopedia is looking to be phased out from Anime articles, I require a a source for the manga serialization - ANN had the dates as 1998-10-21 to 2001-10-31 (Shonen Magazine 1998 No.47 to 2001 No.48). The dates seem right despite it clearly not being one chapter a week. Dandy Sephy (talk) 02:42, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

It seems to me they were just suggesting that another source be found, if possible, not that it can't be used at all. I would strongly oppose it being completely discounted. I'm not sure where else you would look for the number of chapter other than the Japanese releases. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:47, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
As the article is being prepared for GAN, I'd rather not leave it in there. The discussion so far suggests we will be at least be replacing ANN encyclopedia refs on GA/FA candidates . Also it was suggested I change all ANN encyclopedia refs in the peer review. I've found a ANN news source for the japanese chapter count. It's not perfect though as it talks about 123 chapters in vol14 (definately not the case in my first edition) and was written two weeks before serialisation ended, and 3 months before volume 14 was released Dandy Sephy (talk) 02:58, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Citations

Hi Nihonjoe. I am troubled by a few of your recent edits. Specifically regarding citations. Two examples are [2] and [3]. I make a number of citations, so I am fairly familiar with WP:CITE. While I certainly support inline citations , there is still a need for both the reference and notes sections. Merging them seriously hurts the readability of the article. For example, if I now take a quick look at the Kenmu restoration article, I can not immediately find an alphabetical list of references used in the article. I need to filter through miscellaneous notes and comments and page numbers which are not what I am looking for. Those belong in a separate section, as they previously were, to support the various inline citations. Please reconsider this issue. Regards, Bendono (talk) 08:38, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

As each reference links directly to the one being used, there's no reason to duplicate references like that. That's the whole purpose of having the refs be links: so you can click it and see the specific reference. I'm fine if you wish to also list them alphabetically somewhere in the article, though. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:43, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
You are unnecessarily conflating notes and references. The notes (called a <ref /> in wiki markup for historical reasons) support individual claims made within an article. Those are linked appropriately. References are a separate section. They give a general overview of the resources used to generate the article. For some readers, such as myself, the References are the first part that a reader checks to see if the article is even worth reading. Getting a quick overview of the references used from the Notes section along often is not so easy. In addition, some of these references will be cited as notes multiple times but with various pages. Especially in these cases it is advantageous to list the formal bibliography info once and simplify the actual citations to just the author's last name, year, and page number(s) rather than unnecessarily duplicating the same info multiple times. (See Middle Japanese for once such example.) As long as we have an understanding, then all is good. However, I do invite you to reread WP:CITE when you have chance. Regards, Bendono (talk) 10:20, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

These two articles have been nominated for AFD based on frankly rubbish claims they are not notable (I agree they dont show notability as yet, but it was assumed by the nom that coverage doesn't exist). Given the size and popularity of the Robotech and Macross franchises, I believe there is an abundant supply of magazines and books discussing the two. Are you able to assist in proving notability? Nominator continuously blanking work at AfD in progress

Hi, Nihonjoe. I bring troubles :) There's currently an extremely determined AfD going on at Airi & Meiri. The nominator seems obsessed with deleting the article at any cost. S/he continuously blanks out work that other editors do on the article, and even submitted some kind of report on me for restoring it. I did some work on the article today, and, as expected, in THIS EDIT the nominator again has essentially blanked the article, removing extensive sourcing and writing. Can anything be done? Dekkappai (talk) 05:12, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

After reviewing it, I can see where that is happening. However, you are currently engaged in an edit war over content on that article, so I have placed a warning on both your pages. Please step back, take a few deep breaths, and the discuss the concerns regarding the references and additional content on the article's talk page. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:27, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Ah, Joe... I appreciate the message, this was all new work, which he reverted. I just reverted before seeing your message. I don't engage in edit-wars. Are you saying I cannot work on the article? Dekkappai (talk) 05:28, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
No, you are welcome to work on the article, but you keep basically reverting what Cerejota does, and then s/he basically reverts what you do. You need to discuss this on the article talk page as you obviously don't agree on what should be in the article. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:30, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
But that's not the case. Yesterday the nominator continuously blanked work that I and another editor did. I stopped work on the article and spent all day today writing completely afresh. The nominator then immediately blanked that. The new blanking is of much better sourcing than that that was in the article yesterday-- an article I did not start, but am only trying to help through AfD. Dekkappai (talk) 05:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I understand that, but the editor is obviously disagreeing with what you are placing in the article. Therefore, to prevent the constant reverting, please discuss what you are wanting to add on the talk page of the article and come to some sort of consensus. Once that's been done, the article can be changed accordingly. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:37, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
OK-- Honestly, I've never seen such behavior from an AfD nominator, and don't know how s/he's getting away with it. When I just seek others' advice s/he follows accusing of canvassing/forum shopping or something. What a waste of time :( I'll work on the article more & post in a chunk later. From what I've seen, I honestly don't think the nominator will be satisfied with anything but the article's deletion. Dekkappai (talk) 05:42, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I agree that Cerejota is being overly aggressive in this case, but I still recommend trying to work something out on the talk page of the article. The closing admin will be able to see what's going on. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:45, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Halp. I don't speak a word of Japanese, so I'm in way over my head with this. I need some help identifying some stuff I can't read, and I'd really appreciated if you could help. If you don't want links to this subject on your talk page, though, feel free to remove them, I can't blame you.

  • What is this, and for what sort of factual claims (if any) is it useful?
  • I'm guessing Core Magazine and Bubka are porn magazines; can you tell me anything else about them?
  • What can you tell me about this record label?

Any help would be appreciated, even if that help is only pointing me to an uninvolved editor who might be able to help. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire - past ops) 17:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

According to "Cat and Anime and Voice Actress," twin AV actresses Airi and Meiri became the inspiration for "Happy Material." It looks like "the chord progression doesn't change, the beginning is exactly the same, and the arrangement and Otosaku also bear resemblance."

On Ai Tsukasa's blog, the songs sung by Airi and Meiri (Twinkle Magic" and "Happy Material May Edition") compare favorably to the sound source (Flash). When you try listening while converting the speaker's balance, you'll want to say how splendid it is!

When you see the new VIP blog, (`・ω・´), like bold things that inspired you up to now, there's nothing like that included purity, and there's a sense that it's too bad that it's just being used in collaboration with actresses' noisy self-advertising. Does that mean Orange Range and Ayumi Hamasaki aren't sufficient inspiration?

Yes, Core Magazine is a porn magazine which also carries some manga from what understand. I'm not familiar with Bubka, but it's likely. I know Core has been around for quite a number of years.
Never heard of the record label, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

March 2009

Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit that you made to User talk:Cerejota has been reverted or removed because it was a misuse of a warning or blocking template. Please use the user warnings sandbox for any tests you may want to do, or take a look at our introduction page to learn more about contributing to the encyclopedia. Thank you. Cerejota (talk) 05:25, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Don't be an ass, Cerejota. You know full well the warning was merited. You are engaged in an edit war with Dekkappai on Airi & Meiri, and you need to stop or I will block you for violating WP:3RR. You've already gone over the limit as it is, but I was being nice and not blocking you since you are currently engaged in an AfD discussion about this particular article. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:29, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
2RR is not 3RR, look at the edit history carefully - insertions of material are not reversions under the warning is without merit, nor are reversions of material inserted by one self, nor are reversions of vandalism or innapropiate content such as spam (ie catalog links) or copy-vio. In any case you should be warning Dekkappai for his extreme personal attacks in the AfD, his attempts to poison the well, his forum shopping (which hilariously resulted in him being reverted by a different user). I am not some new kid on the block, and have been in way more controversial stuff, so I know 3RR when I see it. You are wrong, period. I do not know what drove you to mistemplate me, but you are wrong and are misusing the template, so you are templated back. --Cerejota (talk) 05:37, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I did review it, and you are engaged in an edit war with Dekkappai. This needs to stop now or you (and he, if he continues) may be blocked. You need to assume good faith on his part with the edits he's making. If you have a concern about something, rather than just reverting his edits, take it to the talk page and discuss the issues. I'm telling him the same thing, so don't think I'm singling you out on this. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:40, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Actually, he is engaged in an edit war with everyone: User:A Man In Black also reverted him. I know you have not singled me out, I just feel you are incorrect in your interpretation of the events. As to why talk cannot be used, please read his reponse to any attempts to engage him constructively. He implies that those for deletion are racists! When you do that, its extremely hard to assume good faith.
Dekkappai is a troll, and a well known one, search WP:DRAMA.
I apologize for sounding blunt, and for templating you, but this guy really needs to be brought under control, and has needed for some time.--Cerejota (talk) 05:47, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
If you have a problem with his behavior, there are places to bring that up. An AfD is not one of those places. Neither is the edit summary box. Dekkappai is known for good work in this particular area, and you need to keep your apparent agenda to "bring him under control" out of this discussion. I apologize if you think the events were misinterpreted, but I can clearly see an edit war going on here, and it's mostly between the two of you. Please toss your agenda out the window and assume good faith here. He is trying to improve the article, but your uncooperative attitude is not helping matters. The ultimate goal here is to have a well sourced article, and if you refuse to accept anything other than deletion, then you are not acting in the best interests of the encyclopedia. Please try to come to some sort of compromise rather than discounting all his contributions out of hand. And please keep the personal attacks ("Dekkappai is a troll") out of the discussion, too. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 08:51, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
It clear that you have the agenda. He called me a racist, and you accuse me of personal attacks? If it trolls, its a troll. Please WP:AAGF however, since your boy absolutely failed to AGF himself, you might want to reconsider your position.--Cerejota (talk) 03:42, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Give me a break. I don't have an agenda here, and he's not my "boy" (whatever you mean by that). I wasn't aware he had called you a racist; if that's true, then he shouldn't have done so. There's no excuse for that. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:16, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
No break: if you are going to accuse people of having "agendas" and of failing to assume good faith, you bette rbe prepared to back it up, and to have done your homework. Your accusations are inexcussable, in particular as you admit not having investigated the matter thoroughly. There is only one person being dsiruptive here, and that is Dekkappai, who has made outrageous claims, ignored multiple attempts to debate, and added fake sources in an attempt to lard an article and hence mislead and poison the well of an AfD. He is a nasty editor who should be blocked from wikipedia for his egrerious unproductive positions and editing. You defend him, while trying to pose as neutral, and go as far as falsely accusing me of having an agenda. I ask you once again to reconsider your position and strike those uncivil and egrerious attacks against me. --Cerejota (talk) 07:18, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Exactly where am I defending him? I told both of you to cool it, I warned both of you to stop edit warring, and I have been very fair in my dealings with both of you. You are the only one throwing a fit about it, and claiming you are doing nothing wrong. Also, as you seem to be unaware, "give me a break" is an idiomatic phrase used when you find something ridiculous, excessive, or exasperating. Basically, I find your claims to be ludicrous. And if you're going to attack me when I agree that something you claim he did was wrong, I really don't know what to say to you anymore. It seems you just want to disagree with me regardless of what I write. I have yet to "attack" you, let alone in an "uncivil" or "egregious" manner (there's no such word as "egrerious"). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:36, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Crammage

Hi - you deleted the Crammage page for advertising recently, but over the past few days some people have been trying to slip in mentions of it on various related pages. I'd appreciate it you'd have a look at the SuperMemo edit log. They also seem to have something against Anki:

58.3.182.104 (talk) 22:15, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm not really seeing anything. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Someone else reverted the section, so it seems okay for now. I'll let you know if they keep changing it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.109.118.84 (talk) 05:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Question

I created these pages Hero (singer), U-Know, Xiah and Micky (singer) and added sources to them. But a user said because all it says is "he composed" and "he wrote" means the pages should be deleted. I just want to know if they pass WP:MUSIC, WP:PEOPLE, or WP:N. I think they do but I'm not completely sure. I thought I'd ask you since you're an admin and all. Thanks feel free to remove if you want. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 03:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

All four articles appear to well sourced. The only suggestion I would have is to try to expand them a bit more. Good job! ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 06:23, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your time. I'll try to expand them. ~Moon~~Sunrise~ 09:13, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

DRV

I sent your speedy deletion of Sam Spiegel (musician) to DRV, and I wanted to let you know (without using the impersonal DRV note template). No hard feelings, though- I have no doubt you did what you thought was correct; I simply disagree, and I didn't want to just undelete it myself. Cheers, Mike (Kicking222) 22:57, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I've commented there. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 23:00, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

RE:{{WikiProject Japan}} attention parameter

I played with it a bit, and it looks like the parameter works when "|needs-attention=yes" is inserted into the template transclusion instead of simply "attention". When I looked at the template's source I found this:

|attention={{{needs-attention|}}}

Possibly try taking out the "needs-"? It seemed to work when I tried it out in my own sandboxes. Let me know if this works! --TorsodogTalk 04:15, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Do you know how to make it accepte either |needs-attention=yes or |attention=yes? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:35, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
You could use the following code to achieve that if necessary. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:51, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
|attention={{{attention|{{{needs-attention|}}}}}}
Thanks, I've done that (with the infobox parameter, too). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:10, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Gaijin tarento

Does the proposal on Template talk:Gaijin tarento sound good? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:43, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

This is being handled by a bot, so no need to do it by hand. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:23, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

I want to ask for translation.English to Japanese.

英語から日本語へ翻訳をお願いしたいです。

Hello. You seem to be skilled to both English and Japanese words. こんにちわ。あなたは英語と日本語の両方の言葉に堪能なようすですね。 There is a request, but is all right? ひとつお願いがあるのですがよろしいですか? I want you to translate article of American animated show into Japanese. アメリカのアニメ番組を日本語に翻訳してほしいのです。 --Kuwopio (talk) 17:53, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to ask, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to help. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:11, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Roger. I arrange articles to want you to translate it as follows.

I want you to translate three articles mentioned above. If it is to be able to do it, I want you to translate all the articles to be related to Simpson in English version Wikipedia, but it will be unreasonableness.

--Kuwopio (talk) 17:20, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't feel comfortable translating into Japanese. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 21:21, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
It is regrettable. However, it will translate little by little. Thank you. --Kuwopio (talk) 09:50, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Movie studio-anime guy back again

He's struck again, this time from 202.134.6.36 (talk+ · tag · contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · proxy check · block user · block log · cross-wiki contribs · CheckUser (log)). Thankfully, at least one person was vigilant enough to revert his damage, but it still seems this vandal finds yet more IPs in Jakarta to vandalize from.
