Genesis 1:3 debate
I've mentioned your name at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Requests_for_closure#Talk:Genesis_1:3. Better check that I haven't misrepresented you. -- 202.124.75.77 (talk) 09:51, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
I'm being told that you closed the merger discussion, see the 2nd discussion on Talk:Genesis 1:3 on my talk page and the contribution history for Talk:Genesis 13. I can't find the edit where you did this. Dougweller (talk) 04:45, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

TFA pics
The page you should study is Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests. Once suggestions are scheduled, they leave, so here's the old version, look for 16 September. I noticed your name before in this discussion about pic choice ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:38, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi there. I noticed that you restored the redirect for that article, added indefinite semi-protection, and gave a warning to the IP that had undone the previous redirect. I'm a little concerned about the propriety of those actions, for a handful of reasons. Your initial merge suggestion last November was uncontested for five days, after which you merged the text. So far so good. Six months later, the IP undid the redirect. Another four months later, you restored it, citing consensus. However, since the original request was uncontested, I don't think that qualifies as consensus, and I would think undoing the merge would count as a legitimate contesting/challenging of the merge.
To restore the redirect and semi-protect indefinitely due to "vandalism" in particular seems inappropriate, since I believe the IP acted in good faith and was not acting against any consensus. It seems especially odd to take such strong actions four whole months after the last edit. If there had been a back and forth, with lots of acrimony and edit warring, I could more easily understand. Perhaps you can reconsider your actions. Thanks for taking the time to read this. —Torchiest talkedits 15:00, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just to be clear, I don't think restoring the redirects was wrong per se, I was mainly concerned with calling the IP's actions vandalism. But thanks for your thoughtful reply. —Torchiest talkedits 16:55, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
Shrimp meat
Would you please rename Shrimp meat to Shrimp (food) or Shrimp as food. The article is about shrimp as food, not just as meat. Also "shrimp meat" is not a particularly common term (on Google, "shrimp paste" occurs seven times more often than "shrimp meat"). Further, shrimp flesh is not even recognised as a meat by many groups. For example, the modern Jewish legal practice (halakha) on kashrut classifies the flesh of shrimp as parve, neither meat nor dairy food; nor do Catholic dietary restriction on "meat" apply to shrimp. Thanks. --Epipelagic (talk) 19:56, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
- Please reconsider. It is not unusual to refer to crab meat, but it is unusual to refer to shrimp meat. On Google Books "crab meat" occurs 6,950 times while "shrimp meat" occurs 32 times Even "shrimp paste" occurs 362 times. It is not appropriate to have an article called shrimp meat. Aside from anything else, I would have to delete half the article. --Epipelagic (talk) 00:41, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm... something funny is going on with Google, or least my Google. I just got 6,950 hits on "shrimp meat". And removing the quotes, which should give far more hits, gave 528 hits. And then when I ran it afresh, so its not picked out of the cache, it gave 504,000 hits! I remember something like this happening once before. Makes you wonder how reliable Google really is. --Epipelagic (talk) 01:02, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Hat note
Would you mind explaining to me why the use of this hat note was inappropriate. Thanks --Epipelagic (talk) 07:52, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well that's the way Wikipedia works now, a growing nightmare for the remaining few editors who add content, and are then punished by being jerked round like this. Personally it horrifies me that you can just bulldoze the name to "shrimp meat", as well as bulldozing the titles of the associated articles you have renamed, without any attempt to consult with contributing editors. I would never have written the article if I had known that was going to happen to it. If, rubbing in the salt, you say I must now refer to "shrimp meat" in hat notes and links, then I just won't link to it from other articles I write, or write any more on the topic. --Epipelagic (talk) 02:03, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't say I would leave the project; I said I wouldn't "write any more on the topic" (shrimp meat). The article is about shrimp as food, not just about shrimp meat. If you google "shrimp meat", and look at the very first item listed, you will get this (at least on my Google). This is the most read article on the web about the matter. It is not a reliable source of course, but it is indicative of common usage. I don't want more "requested move" discussions at the moment. It can be a huge drain on time and energy, as you saw on the recent requested move for "shrimp". I want to develop content, not get caught up in more unconstructive dramahs like that. The shrimp (food) article is about shrimp as food, that is, it covers, or potentially covers shrimp processing, distribution, marketing, preparation and the place of shrimps in various national cuisines. It is not just about shrimp meat, though I suppose I could write a separate article covering that. I'm nervous that you are going to rename seafood "sea meat". Similarly, "shrimp fishery" should be "shrimp fishing industry", since it covers, at least potentially, issues that are not indicated by the title shrimp fishery. Anyway, I'm not going to contest that at the moment, because the matter needs to be addressed properly across a range of other articles as well. I apologise for getting testy. Your moves, one after another, coming on top of the dysfunctional noncommunication that occurred in the recent shrimp requested move discussion, was a bit much, and I got fed up. --Epipelagic (talk) 03:33, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll do what you want, and I'll rewrite the article so it is about shrimp meat. I also would like an article about shrimp as a food, which covers essentially the same scope as the original article. Since you don't like the title "Shrimp (food)", which would disambiguate it from the main Shrimp article, can you please suggest a workable alternative title. Thanks. --Epipelagic (talk) 19:44, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Online Ambassador
Hi Neelix! Are you interested in being the Online Ambassador for any classes this term? We've got a few classes that are looking for ambassador right now (Canada, US), so if you're up for helping any, please do! Let me know if you have any questions, or if you'd like me to pick a course for you.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 14:25, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
- Awesome. The Canada classes are being organized by Jonathan Obar, and he can probably put you in touch with both of those instructors. I also expect that more details will get filled in soon for those two classes by Obar and/or the instructors, and in the meantime, you can add yourself to the table at Wikipedia:Canada Education Program/Courses/Present. Let me know if you run into any trouble or have questions.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 13:40, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Little House on the Prairie characters, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cuba, New York (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). WP:TFL reboot
Hello Neelix. I just wanted to personally thank you for all the hard work you've put into selecting submissions for TFL. Recently, at WT:TFL, there's been a lot of concern that the system has become stuck, that new nominations are being discouraged by the lengthy queues in place, and that my selections for TFL haven't been diverse enough. To that end, I've rebooted the system. In short, we will no longer have a submissions and prep page, just a submissions page. We'll limit the number of submissions to ten. The community can comment on, support, oppose etc the inclusion of any of the submissions. Directors will have final say on what goes on main page when. I've deleted all selections made from mid-October to Christmas to give others the opportunity to get involved. I'm sorry that so much of your efforts now have been, well, delayed I guess, and hope that you'll continue to support our process, as we try to improve and ultimately get more main page exposure. Feel free to ping me about any of this. Thanks again. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:25, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

struckthrough. Further discussion, if any, will occur elsewhere, as requested. --Lexein (talk) 13:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- Request rescinded,
- Hi Lexein,
- Thank you for contacting me about the adaptations moves. The title format "x (adaptations)" is against Wikipedia's article title format policy which states that we should "not use titles suggesting that one article forms part of another". Parenthetical disambiguators are reserved for articles on separate topics that happen to be referred to by the same name, but adaptations of x are by necessity a subtopic of x, and they must therefore employ a phrase in their title rather than a parenthetical disambiguator. Please let me know if you have any further concerns regarding the moves.
- Neelix (talk) 16:45, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
I would like the moves to stop, because wider discussion is needed. Thank you. --Lexein (talk) 16:48, 9 October 2012 (UTC)- Request rescinded. --Lexein (talk) 13:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Lexein,
- I stopped moving the articles some time before you initially contacted me. Where do you feel such discussion should occur?
- Neelix (talk) 16:50, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Mm, whatever. Since that clause of the titles policy is at the end, I believe it is rather new, and probably, rather poorly discussed, and poorly justified. If that style is supported in other tertiary publications such as encyclopedias, then it will hold water. If it's Wikipedia-only, then it's arbitrary and should be discussed. Where? I've no idea how deep this goes. I'm running WikiBlame now and not getting any happier. So, off I go again. --Lexein (talk) 17:03, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Neelix (talk) 16:50, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Lexein,
- Please let me know if you decide to initiate such a discussion or if you revert any of the moves. I will likely move the other articles to a "Adaptations of x" format at some point unless such a discussion occurs and consensus on this aspect of article title format changes.
- Hi, Neelix. Lexein has started discussion here -- JHunterJ (talk) 17:09, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- (Continuing my thought and research)
- I'm struggling to find the original introduction of that section. I disagree with the application of that policy to these moves, because all the works are named the same, and are all adaptations.
- "Adaptations" are not a singular subject, like "Transport" - the word more resembles a superclass of disambiguators, and should be treated as such.
- The article is not based on a book (or books) entitled "Adaptations of The Phantom of the Opera", so there should be no article title on Wikipedia as if there were such a work, or as if it were based on such works. That is, the title, "Adaptations of ..." spoken with the voice of Wikipedia, is original research, whereas "... (adaptations)" is clearly indicating that it is a compendium about derived works, and not original research.
- This old revision does not mention parentheses. But it makes an important point, now missing, that "Transportation in Azerbiajan" could be a subsidiary to "Transportation" or "Azerbaijan", implying that priority should not be blatantly given. But again, the thorny problem of the plural. But is there an article or topic "Adaptations"? I still say, "no."
- "List of adaptations of ..." is closer to the truth, because "List" at least is singular, and there's an article for "List". But I imagine there would be a revolt against that.
- I'm quite comfortable with many policies at Wikipedia. Some are better justified than others. This one makes me uneasy, because its rationale is unsatisfying for the case of "Adaptations of". --Lexein (talk) 18:08, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- I think it best to keep the conversation you have initiated at the MOS talk page instead of on my user talk page. - Fair enough. I may move my parts of the above to the other venue at some point, if that's alright. --Lexein (talk) 13:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

The article Jassy Bindra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not one reference is about her. They either have a quote or announce she is a speaker. She has done nothing "notable" except her job. Doesn't pass WP:GNG
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bgwhite (talk) 04:57, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Duplicate links detector
To install the script, add:
importScript('User:Ucucha/duplinks.js'); // [[User:Ucucha/duplinks]]
to Special:MyPage/common.js. Clear the cache (the common.js page tells you how), there will now be a link "Highlight duplicate links" in the toolbox on the left on every mainspace article. This neat script saves hours of effort compared to checking manually. Normal practice is to link once only, or once in the lead and once in the rest of the text, so the script ignores the lead and things like captions and infoboxes. You obviously have the choice of keeping some duplicated links if you wish, but I think you will be surprised how many red boxes you see in your article when you run this. CoD character merge
Did you merge the CoD character articles as a result of a discussion? Some guy (talk) 02:54, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- The problem as I see it is how horrifically long the merged article is. The value of much of the material is questionable anyways, I suppose it might be better to trim it than to maintain separate articles. Some guy (talk) 04:25, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
List of Transformers characters
Now that you have moved the list of characters in Transformers comics to List of Transformers characters, you have to take into account that the Transformers mythos is spread out across several continuums (continua?). There's the original toys themselves, and the TV show and the Marvel comic they inspired. The TV show and the Marvel comic alone are inconsistent between each other, each with their own non-Transformer characters. And that's just Generation 1. If you are going to list every Transformers character in a single article, preferably including a short description (one or two sentences) per each, the article is probably going to take almost a megabyte of space. JIP | Talk 21:36, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
- Copied from my user talk page. Please continue the conversation there.
- Hello Neelix, and thanks for your message. I understand what you are trying to do but don't see how it's going to happen. This article, which I started and later edited when numerous Marvel-comic-only characters were being merged into it, is and so far remains focused on the Marvel comic. It doesn't list any character that appeared outside it. Now Marvel is the entity that originally created the whole Transformers mythos - Hasbro had the toys, but Marvel wrote the story behind them - but even in the 1980s, the Marvel comic was by no means the primary canon source, and today even less so. So as far as I can see, this article should be one of the subarticles under the main article, not the main article itself. JIP | Talk 19:43, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Chrono Cross Characters list
I see you moved "Characters of Chrono Cross" to "List of characters in Chrono Cross", which is the the article I've been working on overhauling/rewriting lately. I had recently changed it to "Characters of Chrono Cross" because I had been working on remodeling it after Characters of Final Fantasy 8, a Featured Article. You moved it back on the grounds of consistency with the List of Chrono Trigger characters list, a rather rough, mediocre article.
Is there any rationale for these naming conventions beyond consistency? If there is, then that's fine, we can keep it that way. But if there isn't, wouldn't it make sense to model the naming after the higher quality article it's working towards? (Not to mention, CT's character page name could be changed too, if consistency within the series is that important.
Anyways, I'd like you know your thoughts, since the only insight I've had so far was your brief edit summary. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 03:32, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- I've worked on remodeling many articles in the past, but this is the first I've ever worked on an article regarding a set of characters like this. Even with your examples, I'm rather confused. I don't see the difference between, the Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and List of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow characters. I don't really see how they came to these different names unless each had different sets of people coming to different local consensuses or something. Or am I missing something?
- It's not like an issue or anything, it was more just that I had been trying to model it after the various "Characters of Final Fantansy", articles, just because the subject, content, and medium of "Final Fantasy" and "Chrono Cross" are pretty similar. I've looked through the article's history, and it looks like it's pretty much been in awful shape since it's conception years ago, so I didn't really pay any mind to anything that had been established prior to me starting work on it around a month ago.
- Anyways, your thoughts are welcome. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 17:40, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

TFA images
You apparently believe that any image — no matter how distantly related to the article's subject — is preferable to no image. This doesn't reflect consensus. Images appearing on the main page are intended to provide illustration, not mere decoration.
Some of your image additions are reasonable, and I don't mean to imply otherwise. But literally every time I see an off-topic image in the TFA section, it was placed there by you. And despite repeated reminders, you do so without performing a local upload (sometimes resulting in the image remaining unprotected for hours).
Please stop. —David Levy 12:33, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors#Errors in the summary of today's or tomorrow's featured article. —David Levy 13:06, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi David,
- I apologize for any frustration I have caused you. Looking back through my talk page history, I see your note back in August explaining how to perform a local upload; I should have remembered. I try to put up images on the TFA blurbs before the blurbs go up on the main page so that the images can be discussed beforehand, but I do not always catch the blurbs in time. I have not uploaded any images that I believed at the time to be off-topic, but I will attempt to keep them more centrally on topic in the future. I think TFA images to be a valuable part of Wikipedia, which is why I often edit in this area. I hope my TFA blurb edits will be more agreeable to you in the future.
- Neelix (talk) 21:05, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking my concerns seriously. I agree that TFA images are valuable. I've added some myself, and I frequently modify them to enhance their display. Likewise, you've done some good work in this area.
- But having no TFA image is vastly preferable to having one with little relevance to the article's subject. In this instance, the article was about a 2005 computer-animated film, not an 1843 book. Both works are based (to varying extents) on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but their visual styles are vastly dissimilar. —David Levy 06:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
- PS - I have added images to several of the TFA blurbs scheduled for the next few days. Do I need to perform a local upload or does that happen automatically if the image is placed on the blurb before it goes up on the main page? I would be grateful if you would let me know if any of the images I have uploaded for the currently scheduled blurbs are insufficiently related to the subject of the corresponding articles. Neelix (talk) 21:33, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- If an image is added far enough in advance (12 hours is a fairly safe cutoff), it should be protected by a bot before it reaches the main page. But this isn't foolproof, as pre-main page vandalism could go unnoticed, and the bot occasionally malfunctions and fails to perform the protection. So locally uploading main page images always is a good idea.
- Today's image was unsuitable, as it isn't actually from the game series. It was created to serve as a similar symbol that fans could use to identify themselves.
- The November 23 image seems acceptable. Its illustrative value is modest (as it relates to a minor element of the subject), but I see no glaring problems. —David Levy 06:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Courses extension: testing it with Current in 20th C. History
Hi Neelix! One of the courses that you're working with as an Online Ambassador, Education Program:University of Guelph-Humber/Currents in Twentieth Century World History (2012 Q4), is going to be the guinea pig for the courses extension, which is finally live and functional. I marked you with the "course online volunteer" user group, so you can now create an Online Ambassador profile, and add yourself as an Online Ambassador on the course page. (There's a bug with the profile creation page, which which give a misleading "leave page" warning when you try to save.) Hello Neelix. I only saw this AfD after it was closed, so this comes after the fact. I wanted to clarify something though, most of the results are indeed about the singer, it's just that his last name in Arabic ("Al Muhandes") literally means, "The Engineer", which is why google was translating it into Majid the engineer. Question about character page on "The Passage" trilogy
Hello, this is my first time posting on a talk page so please bear with me. I recently used an article entitled "List of The Passage Characters". I had just begun the second book of the trilogy, "The Twelve" and wanted to refresh my memory about some of the original characters. I did not readily see that the article contained information about both books. Since both the first book and series have the same name, it is a bit confusing. The article is not divided by book, but by character. So you are reading about a character in the first book, "The Passage" then in the next sentence about "The Twelve". It took me a minute to realize this, unfortunately I read too much and had some of the end of the book revealed to me. I tried to edit the article myself (my first time editing, didn't go so well, broke too many rules) but it didn't work out. I see in the history, the title of the article had once been "List of Characters in the Passages Trilogy" but that you changed it leaving out the word "Trilogy" in order to more consistent with other character lists. For me, since both the first book and the series have the same name, perheps leaving in the word Trilogy might have been more helpful in this case to avoid confusion. This is only a suggestion, but I am just so disappointed at having the some of the plot details ruined for me, I am trying to think of ways this could be avoided. Obviously you have more experience at this than I do. I would appreciate your consideration of solving this ambiguity concern. Thank you! Kreiland (talk) 01:14, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Neelix, thank you for your reply. I did find this reference at the author's website: http://enterthepassage.com/the-twelve/ But I am not sure if this is actually used as a title or simply as a type of advertising. At least it is confirmation from the author that the book is part of a trilogy. Thank you again for your assistance with clarification. Kreiland (talk) 02:06, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Neelix,
I can take care of withdrawing the FAC for you. Please be sure to leave the {{FAC}} template on the article talk page until the bot comes through to finish archiving it. You can request a copyedit from WP:GOCE. Good luck! Maralia (talk) 04:19, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Maralia,
- Thanks for withdrawing the She Has a Name FAC. I have submitted a copyediting request to GOCE as you suggested. Hopefully that will prepare the article sufficiently for a second FAC to be successful.

Uncovers
Why did you redirect Un-covers, Un-cover, Uncovers, Un-covering, and Uncovering to Apocalypse? — Hex (❝?!❞) 19:48, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Hex,
- Have you possibly been reading Wikipediocracy? I noticed that that website criticized those specific edits of mine. I created the redirects you mention because "Apocalypse" means "un-covering", as is explained in the first sentence of the Apocalypse article. Do you believe the redirects are damaging to the project?
- I have to admit that yes, that was where I saw them. It was more out of curiosity than anything, but evidently I didn't have sufficient caffeine intake to actually read carefully. I clicked "uncovers" then searched for "uncovers", got nothing (obviously - the text uses "un-covers") and closed the tab. How dim of me! Sorry.
- Well, I think it's fairly unlikely that people will search for "apocalypse" by that method, but no, they're not damaging at all.
- Best wishes, — Hex (❝?!❞) 21:01, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Userpage reversion
Hello Neelix. I have no idea whatsoever how that happened. I think I may have clicked the rollback button by mistake when checking my watchlist on the iPad. I had to go back and check why your page is on my watchlist in the first place (I don't remember any prior interactions). At any rate, I apologize for that mistake, terribly sorry. How is this a free image?
Copied from Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors - please reply there.
How is File:The Notorious B.I.G. graffiti.jpg a free image? The website of the artist is visible in the image (www.rei74.com) and the photographer (who freely licensed the photo) does not appear to be the artist (and there is not any indication in the image or on the artist's website that the artist has freely licensed the image). There is no freedom of panorama in the United States, so how is this a free image? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:45, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I may well be missing the point here, but since you added the image, could you please make its free status clearer? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:53, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
- I apologize - I am traveling and have a slow internet connection. I saw the edit summary in the history of the TFA blurb that you had added an image and jumped to conclusions that it was the grafitti image. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:29, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Breeder article
Neelix, noticed that breeder is really a suck-egg stub that's basically a dictionary definition. What do you think about making it a disambiguation page instead? I'm thinking breeder reactor, animal breeders, selective breeding, etc... would work better that way, wouldn't it? Let me know your thoughts, but if no real disagreements, I'll make it a dab in a few days -- or someone else could too, no real big deal to me. Montanabw(talk) 20:16, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Anyday
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Anyday requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
