Advertisements
[edit]Hi! I had to delete the Kream King article as an advertisement and as having limited if any notability outside your local area. If you can establish the restaurant's widespread notability and avoid using "adspeak," please feel to recreate it. Thanks and happy new year! - Lucky 6.9 20:09, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Goo image
[edit]In Image:OriginalPhotoforGoo.jpg which you tagged NoRightsReserved, where did you get that image, and who was the photographer and when or where did they release their rights? (Presuming it wasn't you yourself!) -- Kevin Ryde 21:48, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- I guessed that might have been it. (Could get almost any two people in the back of a car and reproduce that scene :-). I think you will want to change the license tag to fair use or some such, and cite the source, I doubt I'll be the only one to wonder. Personally I would think, unfortunately, it can't be used. Even if the photographer has gone to the big dark room in the sky and the picture is sprayed around the internet I'd imagine there's a publisher or photo library somewhere who owns it. -- Kevin Ryde 22:29, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- Without meaning to be provocative, I dropped the tag to unverified and added the blog URLs. I'm pretty sure norights shouldn't be the tag, but someone else will have to assess what it ought to be. -- Kevin Ryde 23:07, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it's true, you need specially strengthened boardies or the sun will burn them away in just minutes and you'll be left standing there in the buff! :-) (Actually though what you need most is good sunscreen and a rashie if you're at the beach in the middle of the day.) -- Kevin Ryde 00:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Fair use images on your user page
[edit]I've removed a number of album covers and logos that, by law, can only be used in encyclopedia space. Let me know if you have any questions on Wikipedia policy in this respect. Ral315 (talk) 02:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is, we don't know who's going to sue and who isn't. Record companies could conceivably get annoyed at your usage and sue- after all, they would own the rights to that image. And they likely wouldn't sue you, they'd sue the Wikimedia Foundation, which at this point would be bankrupted by any major lawsuit. The reason the McLaren photos were deleted was because you provided invalid licensing- the template on the page said that you had taken the photos, but the page said you didn't. The Dark Side of the Moon one is fine, however, because it's not an image of the cover- rather, it's an image of a prism similar to the one used on the Pink Floyd cover. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Eraserheadscreensh.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Eraserheadscreensh.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Durin 18:10, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Fair use image use
[edit]Fair use images are not permitted to be used in userboxes, nor any other non-main article namespace page. Please see Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9. If you have any other questions about this, I'd be happy to answer.
Also, you have a rather significant number of fair use images on your userpage, in violation of this same policy. --Durin 20:53, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- You were made aware of the policy at Wikipedia:Fair use criteria item #9 and chose to violate it any way by re-inserting Image:Eraserheadscreensh.jpg into Template:User Eraserhead. This constitutes vandalism. If you continue to do this, you may be temporarily blocked. I have reverted your re-insertion of the images, and removed the fair use images from your userpage [1] that I mentioned earlier. Again, do not reinsert fair use images onto userpages or templates in violation of this policy. If you have questions about this or are uncertain as to the status of an image and whether or not you can use it, by all means feel free to ask. However, simply re-inserting these images or adding other fair use images to userpages or templates may result in a temporary block. --Durin 00:22, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Image:Eraserhead.jpg is an image of a dvd cover. As such, I have retagged it as {{dvd-cover}}. The original author retains rights, and the image may only be used under terms of fair use here. I have removed the image from the userbox, and tagged it with {{orfud}} because the image is not used in any main namespace articles. --Durin 21:50, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- You do have rights to whatever creative effort went into the creation of the photograph of the DVD cover. Additionally, the creators of the movie Eraserhead maintain rights to the DVD cover. You have the power only to release your rights, and can not release theirs. As such, the image must be used here under terms of fair use. --Durin 00:10, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have seen the movie. Saw it shortly after it came to video actually. Rather amazing movie. Depressing as all hell, but amazing nonetheless.
- As to the copyright problems; just taking a picture of something doesn't mean you gain all rights to it. Let's say you took a photograph of the Coca-Cola logo. Does that mean you can then go make a million shirts with the logo and sell them? Coca-cola would be on your doorstep faster than you could put one of the t-shirts on. You do have rights to the creative effort needed to create the photograph, but Coca-cola would absolutely retains rights to their logo. Similarly, David Lynch and/or Libra Films retain rights to imagery from the movie, including the cover of the DVD package. Now, since you took the photo you have rights, but they have rights too. For instance, they could not use your photo unless you gave them permission to do so. Similarly, you can not use the photo unless they give permission to do so. You both have rights, and both sets of rights have to be released under a free license in order for the image to be usable outside of the main article namespace here on Wikipedia.
- I know you're a good guy in this, and are trying to do the right thing. I really appreciate that! --Durin 00:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Some image problems
[edit]I retagged Image:Nirvana2764startupwindow.JPG as {{software-screenshot}} since it is a screenshot of copyrighted software. I've also tagged it and Image:Z Vex Logo Inverted.jpg as orphaned fair use images since neither is used in a main namespace article. You've done good work on tagging a number of other images, and I thank you for that. I'm just correcting a few errors I see. --Durin

something random
[edit]Hey. Well, so now u know I like emo, along with a bunch of punk rock bands, with the exception of the Beatles and Bob Dylan. 1) Why do you want to committ suicide? (I saw the question about the gun when I went to check if somebody else bothered to help me with my chemistry question). I just want to know, cuz I actually thought about it too. I almost slit my wrists when I was really depressed, and now I just want to know what drives other people to do it? It's really creepy when you think about. but when you find that somebody else did or wanted to do it, its somehow comforting in a weird and sick and twisted way. I talked with my two best friends, both used to cut, one actually landed on the psych ward, because his parents were weird like that.
and
2) Can you list and briefly explain all types of metal rock? My friend tried explaining them to me (a kick-ass die-hard pixies fan) and I lost count after 15. And its all confusing when you dont see it written and you just hear about it.
and lastly
3) Rant about emo. What's so bad about it? Maybe you'll actually give me a reason not to listen to it (but AFI, well the first two albums, are so addictive!).
and plz reply to my email kasia21_pl@yahoo.com partly cuz I'm not a wikipedia afficionado like you are. I use it as a primary source of research, but my love stops there. ;)
Rock on and peace out

Hi Tom, not sure why you think that the sentence you removed from this article has NPOV issues. It was just an attempt to explain the clever ambiguity in the title, and the way that this is reinforced by the way the gatefold sleeve is designed. Rather than remove can you suggest a better way to express the same thing? Cheers, Ben--Bwmodular 09:18, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Huevos.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Huevos.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:44, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Notability of Pissed Jeans
[edit]A tag has been placed on Pissed Jeans, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eggishorn 19:07, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note on my talk page. I'll be happy to help. First of all, however, I should tell you I can't bring back the article myself. In fact, I did not delete it in the first place. Only administrators can delete articles. What I did by placing the "db-bio" tag was ensure that it came to the administrators' attention.
- Secondly, heck yes, you should make every effort to include some of those reviews you mentioned. If you refer to |the Wikipedia notability guideline for music you see: "A musician or ensemble ... is notable if ...It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable." If you can provide such works (e.g., reviews, concert coverage, but not press releases or the band's own website), editors and other administrators will be willing to let it stand and grow. People recognize that popular music is a fluid subject, and up and coming bands need a way in.
- Thirdly, I notice that it's now been deleted three times. Each time, a different administrator thought the article contained no reason why this band should be included in Wikipedia. I would suggest that you not simply re-create this article without first going to the deletion review process to indicate you'd like the article restored. If you make a case for notability based on those guidelines it can be restored (that is, it is not permanently consigned to the bit bucket). I hope this helps. Eggishorn 20:28, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Amphetamine Reptiles
[edit]I reverted your change here - "I talked to a guy," even someone obviously knowledgable about the subject can't be used as a citation here. It looks like there might be information at their web site that would support what you say (I even checked, the website-quoted hq address and the bar are the same). The article could use citations anyway. . . (John User:Jwy talk) 21:04, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- It can be used, but not attributed as you did. Someone has to be able to confirm what you say with the references - without having to track the guy down! Best would be to find something on the site that matches what you said about it being upstairs - and leave out the "according to. . ." It sucks, but even if it is true, it can't be on Wikipedia without being verifiable. (John User:Jwy talk) 21:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Endlessjavascriptmessage.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Speakers
[edit]That's not how it works. More impedance equals less current. No danger. Yes, the two speakers will have to share the power, but the extra area pushing air will more than compensate, since you won't be using anything like 185 Watts unless it's a party for the legally deaf. Try it both ways, I mean with one speaker, and with two in series. You definitely do not even want to try wiring them in parallel. --Milkbreath (talk) 22:25, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Neither I nor Wikipedia nor Milkbreath (I assume) are willing to assume any liability if we discuss the effects of different ways of connecting the speakers and you wind up frying the speakers, the amp, or your ears! That said, the amp may very well state on the back what speaker impedance it is rated for, and the speakers may say what their impedance is. If they are in parallel, they should draw more current from the amp. In series, they will draw less current. Having more speaker area should not make the sound better unless the volume was so high the speaker cone was travelling in and out farther than was desirable. Edison (talk) 23:46, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- My esteemed colleague Edison is fulla bulla. More speaker area is better if you have the power to drive it. I played rock bass in the 70s, man, and I've got the cochlea to prove it. Try it both ways and let us know. But, yes, Edison has the other thing right; if you smoke your amp or blow your speakers, it will not bother me one bit. --Milkbreath (talk) 23:59, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- A friend in the 1960's had a high-powered amp and expensive little speakers (AR-something) and when he played a record "Space Cowboy," probably the one on Brave New World (Steve Miller Band album) it blew out the speaker cones. They were repaired/replaced under warranty, he repeated the experiment, and blew them out again. It happened on the same exact bass note in a descending scale as the first time. The company said they would repair them one more time, but assure him that was the absolute last! Smoke'em if ya got 'em. I can't quite grasp what you asked in your last note on my talk page. Edison (talk) 04:57, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam in AutomotiveForums
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on AutomotiveForums, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because AutomotiveForums is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting AutomotiveForums, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:PostMershVol1.jpeg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:PostMershVol1.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

July 2008
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to List of musical works in unusual time signatures, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. There's a big honking warning at the top of that page stating that any additions must be sourced, lest the page become a den of original research. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 22:45, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- No, that wouldn't work. You can't use one Wikipedia article as the source for another Wikipedia article, it doesn't work that way. And my listening to the song would only be original research as well; I have a pretty good sense of rhythm but I doubt I'd be able to discern all the odd time signatures contained. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 23:00, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, every article should have a source to back up any claim. To quote WP:OR: "[T]o demonstrate that you are not presenting original research, you must cite reliable sources that provide information directly related to the topic of the article, and that directly support the information as it is presented." In other words, you would have to find a source that states that the song goes all over the place with its time signature. In fact, the section in the song's article should be removed since it's not sourced at all. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 23:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Tom! How's life?
Proposed deletion of Dave Koupal
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Dave Koupal, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Does not satisfy WP:MUSIC's standards for notability ("Members of notable bands are not given individual articles unless they have demonstrated notability for activity independent of the band") and there seems to be little, non-trivial coverage of him.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. File copyright problem with File:DinosaurJrFarm.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:DinosaurJrFarm.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. — neuro(talk)(review) 18:50, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:15, 12 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 63.254.230.154 (talk) 04:15, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Oarfolk.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Oarfolk.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (t • c) 02:27, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:SpiritualizedSongsInAE.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:SpiritualizedSongsInAE.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:04, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Notification of automated file description generation
[edit]Your upload of File:Big Muff Pi 008.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! - Another one of your uploads, File:CheapoMinneapolis.jpg, has also had some information automatically added. If you get a moment, please review the bot's contributions there as well. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 14:26, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the note. Yeah that was a long time ago. I wasn't even a fan of him back then (nor am I now, really), I just looked him up and found that there was no article. I don't watch it anymore, so I hope it's in better shape than it was when I created it :) Cheers, --Viennese Waltz 12:39, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article UT Models is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/UT Models until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Rathfelder (talk) 17:35, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
The file File:MaistoMcLarenF1.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Orphaned image of a three-dimensional model that likely has its own copyright that would need to be considered if we were to keep the image.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ★ Bigr Tex 22:13, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
