Correct spelling of Impresit
[edit]Hi @Massly - rather than undoing your recent edit on the Bakolori Dam article I thought I had better ask you which spelling checker you are using. The correct spelling for the company Impresit only has one "s", but there must be a spell checker that assumes that because the word "impress" has two then so must "Impresit". WikiCup 2015 September newsletter
[edit]The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.
In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far 
Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was 
Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.
The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:
Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.- Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.
The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.
Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

WikiProject Good Articles's 2015 GA Cup - Round 3
[edit] Greetings, all! We hope that everyone had a nice summer. Saturday saw the end of Round 2. Things went relatively smoothly this month. The top 2 from 4 pools, plus the top participant (the wildcard, or "9th place") of all remaining competitors, moved onto Round 3. We had one withdrawal early in Round 2, so he was replaced by the next-highest scorer from Round 1. Round 2's highest scorer was Pool D's Tomandjerry211, who earned an impressive 366 points; he also reviewed the most articles (19). Close behind was Zwerg Nase, also in Pool D, at 297 points and 16 articles. The wildcard slot went to Good888. Congrats to all! Round 3 will have 9 competitors in 3 pools. The key to moving forward was reviewing articles with the longest nomination dates, as it has been in every round up to now. For example, 2 competitors only needed to review 2 articles each to win in their pools, and each article were either from the pink nomination box (20 points) or had languished in the queue for over 5 months (18 points). The GA Cup continues to be a success in many ways, even with fewer competitors this time. For some reason, the competitors in the 2015 GA Cup have reviewed fewer articles in Round 2, which has made the judges scratch their head in confusion. We've speculated many reasons for that: the summer months and vacations, our competitors are saving their strength for the final rounds, or they all live in the Pacific Northwest and the heavy wildfire smoke has affected their thinking. Whatever the reason, Round 2 competitors reviewed almost 100 articles, which is a significant impact in the task of reviewing articles for GA status. We've considered that the lower participation this competition is due to timing, so we intend to discuss the best time frame for future GA Cups. For Round 3, participants have been placed randomly in 3 pools of 3 contestants each; the top editor in each pool will progress, as well as the top 2 of all remaining users. Round 3 will start on September 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on September 28 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here. - You can now mention up to 50 users in a post and they will get a notification. Previously you could notify up to 20 users. [1]
- A new version of the Wikidata Toolkit has been released. It now has Wikibase API support. [2]
- You can now use Wikidata to find all good or featured articles in a Wikipedia version. [3]
Problems
- There was a problem with Tool Labs due to kernel issues. This has been fixed. [4]
- The Content Translation tool published some pages with the same reference repeated several times. This has been fixed. [5][6]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from September 8. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from September 9. It will be on all Wikipedias from September 10 (calendar).
- The maximum character length when you search for something on the Wikimedia wikis is now 300 characters. [7]
- The notifications list has been split into two lists. As a first step, notifications about messages on your user talk page will be placed in the second list. Feedback is requested at the Echo talk page. [8][9]

- Wikidata will soon be able to store measurements, such as a mountain's height or the distance between two places. [11][12]

- Belarusian-Taraškievica Wikipedia was moved from be-x-old.wikipedia.org to be-tarask.wikipedia.org. This caused some issues, but most of them were resolved. [14]
- Language preferences might not be changed immediately when you adjust them. Language selection might work slower. Please report any problems. [15][16]

- There was a problem when editing International Standard Book Numbers in Visual Editor. This has now been fixed. [17]

Peter Goodhand no longer an orphan page

Can you please remove the orphan tag from the page on Peter Goodhand? It is now linked from two pages: David Haussler and Ontario Institute for Cancer Research.
It was additionally tagged as having insufficient references, but I'm not sure by whom. If it was you, could you also please remove that tag, as this 15-line article now has 16 references (and one more on the way).

Misquotation and Misrepresentation of Public Figure

in response to your message dated 26 August 2015, where you noticed that I had "removed a chunk of properly sourced material from Charles Agyinasare", I say that I have thoroughly checked all those websites and articles that were cited about his islamophobic comments, and I could not find EVEN ONE of such comments there. He was quoted as saying that there was a "religious cleansing campaign aimed at exterminating all Christians from the face of the earth" and that "the world's 1.2 billion Muslim population were targeting Christians to harm them for being Christians". None of the sites had this quote. Please verify the references given, and let me know if there was no proper grounds for deleting a "chunk" of the wiki article. [edit]It looks like the subject’s quotes have been extracted and joined to other quotes to make him say something that, upon careful look at his full statements, he has not said. From http://theheraldghana.com/agyin-asare/ the exact quote is:
In his (Agyin ASare’s) estimation, there are more than 200 million Islamic fundamentalists in the world on a religious cleansing campaign aimed at exterminating all Christians from the face of the earth. According to his calculations, if between 10 and 17 per cent of Muslims are thought to be fundamentalists, then it means more than 200 million of the world’s 1.2 billion Muslim population is targeting Christians to harm them for being Christians.

- Hello Theodore061090, I appreciate you taking the time to discus this in a mature way. However I do not see it the same way you put it, when you stated that "the subject’s quotes have been extracted and joined to other quotes to make him say something". That is not the case, you will notice ellipsis in between the sentences, demonstrating that the sentences were cut off because it would be too long to quote them in full. Secondly, the outcry that followed his statement as can be seen in the news outlets do not sound like they said something people had to jubilate about. An IP address changed the section name from Islamophobic Comments to Comment on Islamic Fundamentalism. I have no intention of dragging matters so I would make a compromise and accept it. Recent changes
- There is now an experimental Wikimedia maps service. You can give feedback here. [21][22]
- Last week a few issues with UploadWizard were fixed. Before this was done, UploadWizard would stop you from uploading your files if something went wrong. [23][24][25][26]
- More Wikipedias can now use information from any Wikidata item in any Wikipedia article. Previously they could only use the Wikidata item that matched the subject of the article. [27]
- The VisualEditor welcome dialogue has been changed. The intention is to make it more helpful for new users. [28]
Problems
- Wikimedia Labs' HTTPS certificate expired for most of Tuesday 15 September. To reach Wikimedia Labs and Tool Labs securely you had to ignore your browser's security error message. There was no risk to data security during this time. [29]
- Last week the notification system was split into two parts. This was temporarily undone because of a bug and performance concerns. It will return to two parts this week. [30][31]
- UploadWizard couldn't upload files larger than 5 MB when using chunked uploads. This has now been fixed. [32]
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from September 22. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from September 23. It will be on all Wikipedias from September 24 (calendar).
- The page move tool has been switched over to the new standard look for forms. [33]
- You can now choose whether to extend a link or not when editing one in VisualEditor. This means it is easier to choose how much of what you type before and after the link is part of it. [34]
- Wikibooks can now use data from Wikidata. [35]

Recent changes
- In UploadWizard, the dialog to see an image preview has been removed. You already see the images in the thumbnails when you upload them. [36]
- UploadWizard dialogs look a bit different now. They have been updated to the new OOUI look. [37]
- You can now edit music scores in VisualEditor. You can add new sheet music scores and get live updates when you edit one. [38]
- When you send an e-mail to another editor using Special:EmailUser, that user will now get a notification on the wiki as well. [39]
- You can now see 500 images when you upload images from Flickr with UploadWizard. Before this change the limit was 50. [40]
- The Wikimedia mailing lists have been upgraded. [41]
- MediaWiki developers spent a day looking at proposed code changes in Gerrit. The goal was to clean up the backlog and give feedback to volunteer developers. [42]
Problems
Changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from September 29. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from September 30. It will be on all Wikipedias from October 1 (calendar).
- There will be a new beta feature that allows editors to use Flow on their user talkpage if they want to. Each wiki can decide if they want to enable it. [45]
- The Content Translation tool can give translation suggestions. This feature will now be available in more languages: English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Turkish, Japanese, Italian, and Catalan. [46]

- You can join the strategy process of the Reading department of Wikimedia Engineering. [47]
