Production credits and associated acts
[edit]- I see that you removed the production credits that I updated due to lack of reliable sources. The production credit info can easily be looked up on Spotify or genius. It's very much available on the web and I have not needed to provide a source for every single song they've produced.
- Also the associated acts are verified through the artists and cited sources already available in their production credits. You changed the associated acts to "Jim Jonsin", whom they have not interacted in years with, and changed their description to include that they're signed with "Rebel Rock", which they have not been with for years now. Valid and up-to-date info was replaced with outdated and incorrect info. Please reverse your changes. Thank you.

You appear to be engaged in three edit wars at: Marquette, Michigan, Oscoda–Wurtsmith Airport and Chippewa County, Michigan. You are also up against WP:3RR. [edit]Hi,
I saw your message regarding the edits I just made to a page. When making my edits, I tried to provide a source in the References section of the page. However, as a relatively new user on Wikipedia I did not know how to edit the References section in source mode, as it only allowed me to edit in source mode.
I will take a look at more Wikipedia tutorials regarding editing in source mode, and how to cite a source so I can put it in the References section of that page.

Dave Pounder
[edit]I see that you keep removing cited sources that establish a notable alumni's place on the wiki. All other individuals do not have any references listed that establish their "notability" while two sources that establish another's notability that seems less agreeable to the Catholic institution does not constitute "notability" upon what basis? Is the basis of notability predicated upon agreeance with Catholic tenets on sexuality? Or what would constitute notability, beyond being a public figure? PSYCHREL (talk) 23:13, 31 January 2021 (UTC)PSYCHREL
- On Wikipedia, an individual is generally considered notable (as far as being added to lists like "notable alumni" go), if they have a Wikipedia article of their own (please note every other individual in said list). This has nothing to do with any other institutions. Also, as far as the source you provided, IMDb is not a reliable source. If you feel this individual is in fact notable enough for a Wikipedia article, I invite you to create their article. After which, you can begin adding their name to lists of notable individuals on other articles. Please note, there are specific guidelines regarding the notability of actors, pornographic or otherwise. - Adolphus79 (talk) 23:26, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- @PSYCHREL and Adolphus79: Dave Pounder is somewhat notable in his industry, and according to his bio, did indeed attend Detroit Catholic Central High School where he "studied college prep courses and started to develop an interest in pornography". Back in 2014 Pounder ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Palm Beach School Board. There is actually a fair bit of bio in reliable sources out there about Pounder, though I'm not sure it's enough to support an article (and I doubt Hottest Moms In Town or Corn Fed Naturals will get nominated for an Oscar). Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 00:07, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not saying he is not notable (I have no idea), I was just explaining the addition, and reversion, of his name on that specific list. If he is in fact notable enough for an article, by all means, start one. Can you find reliable sources for this information, not just IMDb? - Adolphus79 (talk) 00:11, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
@Adolphus79,
Yes, I have a news article where he is the topic of reporting: https://www.metrotimes.com/detroit/celebrity-skin/Content?oid=2192619
"Pounder went to Detroit Catholic Central in Novi, where the rigid, all-male environment gave him focus. He excelled in school and mountain biked with classmates in the neighborhood. Dating-wise, well, there were the priest-supervised dances (yawn) with the all-girl Mercy High."PSYCHREL (talk) 00:16, 1 February 2021 (UTC)PSYCHREL
- Well, if you can find a few more of those, then by all means create an article... - Adolphus79 (talk) 00:20, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Magnolia677,
Thank you for the warm welcome in your message! I am a bit confused. Which parts of my edit to the University of Dayton Neighborhood page did not conform with the verifiability policy?

February 2021 edits
[edit]Hello. I re-edited the content with a valid source to represent BRS Kash's project release for the 2021 in hip hop music article, and updated the sources on the Kodak Black discography page to support the recent edits, so that should fix those issues. Now about the edit to the Countdown article, it has been messy for a while now, with consistent vandalism. I was simply getting the page back in order to where it was before. I've been following the updates with this article for some time, and have made sure to keep it as neat and accurate as possible. There was absolutely NO intention to ruin the page, on my part. Thanks. Purplehaze45 (talk) 23:05, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Photos
[edit]I do not mean to get in a battle about what photos added are disruptive or not. I understand you believe the photo on the Washington (state) page was disruptive, but you took photos I added off of pages that were not disruptive, and did add useful information to pages. Considering these photos disruptive seems to be a matter of your opinion, but I will now be more careful to be sure the photos add useful information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 23:54, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Richardmouser: Just because you visited a place, and took some pictures there, does not mean every one of your photos can be added to a Wikipedia article. I urge you to read MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE. For example, adding a photo of a river to an article about a different river, is probably going to be reverted. Adding a close up picture of a water tower to an article about a US state is probably going to be reverted. Adding a photo of a canyon to an article where there is already a picture of the same canyon, and that picture is better than yours, is probably going to be reverted. Adding a photo of some place in darkness is probably going to be revered. Adding a picture of a fish in a stream to an article about a waterfall is probably going to be revered. Adding a picture of bird in a tree to an article about a river is probably going to be reverted. This is just from memory. Please stop adding your personal photo album to Wikipedia! Magnolia677 (talk) 00:04, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
The photo of a Coho salmon added to the Multnomah Falls page was taken just below the waterfall in the same creek. The bald eagles were standing directly above the Snake River. Obviously you don't know what you're talking about. Judging by the pointlessly long message you left me, you have a lot of emotion built up and like getting in arguments with people on Wikipedia. You think you're a high up in Wikipedia when really you're a controlling person who's trying to be sure no one else can contribute to pages of useful information in the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 00:12, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
I don't have to post photos to Wikipedia anymore, since I have so many accomplishments in photography outside Wikipedia. Arguing with people like you is pointless. You're an example of the way people are treated for contributing to Wikipedia. Just know that you're a control freak and you're not actually doing anything good for the world. The point of you being on Wikipedia is to stop people from contributing information to the world.
- @Richardmouser: I'm sorry you have misinterpreted my motivations. I just care more about the quality of Wikipedia than I do about your personal photo album. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:22, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
It's not like I have a choice to post to Wikipedia anymore. You'll delete any photo I try to post from the sake of your own anger. Making emotion driven decisions such as going on a rant of deleting peoples' photos because you're upset they posted one low resolution photo is not productive for Wikipedia. Yes, the photos I post are from my personal photo album. Try to use it as an insult, but photos have to come from somewhere, after all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 00:30, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
I looked at the page you wanted me to read about image relevance. I understand all the information on the page. I understand your concern that some of my photos are not relevant to pages, however, the photo of the Coho salmon in Multnomah Creek was relevant, however you deleted the photo saying it was not relevant, for example. I will never again post a low resolution image again, but I will need you to stop deleting photos I've added to pages that are relevant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 00:54, 8 February 2021 (UTC)

Once again you've called on editors to discuss changes to this article at the talk page when a discussion already exists and you haven't acknowledged or participated in it (the first time was in September). It's an understandable oversight once, but when it happens repeatedly it starts to look as though you're not actually interested in working collaboratively. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 17:17, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Apology
[edit]Hi Magnolia677, I'd like to apologize for the dispute about the photos. I understand your frustration if you are the one who has to determine whether my photos are added to pages or not. I also understand the perception that I'm only adding photos to pages for my personal benefit. I'll be sure to add photos for the purpose of adding useful information to Wikipedia. If you disagree with a photo I add to a page, I'm happy to politely discuss whether the photo should be added or not. Thank you for all you've done for Wikipedia.
All the best, Richard Mouser — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 23:42, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Richardmouser: Thanks for writing! I've made about 11,000 edits to the Commons, and have added about 5,000 photos to articles, mostly to small US cities and towns. Many of your photos are of excellent quality, and I hope you don't mind if I share just a few points with you that will very much reduce any possibility of pushback from other editors. I'm not saying you have done any of these things; they are just some observations I have made about adding photos. Some are mentioned at MOS:IMAGES, and others are just the way things seem to be done.
- First, nothing artsy. No night shots, over-colorization, fancy camera techniques or odd camera locations. Just a clear shot of the river, lake, main street, or whatever you are photographing, and keep it as encyclopedic-looking as possible. Have a look at my boring photos at Oceana, West Virginia and Stirton, Ontario. Use a tripod if you have one, and if you're taking a photo of a tree, make sure most of the photo actually shows the tree. If the photo is of a small town, then a clear shot of the main street, or the town hall, or the train depot is perfect.
- Second, does the article need more photos, or the photo you want to add? Niagara Falls is probably the one of the most photographed places in the world, and an article where editors are endlessly adding their holiday photos of the falls. On that article, four of the photos were added by me: [1][2][3][4]. This is because the photos I added were unique and relevant; they showed something mentioned in the article which no one had yet added. They are also high-quality photos. So, look carefully at the article first to see if your photo is needed. Is there already a photo similar to yours in the article? Is that photos better quality, newer, clearer, or more informative to readers? Also, don't add multiple photos of the same object or from the same location. As well, is there a better quality photo on Flick, or already hiding in the Commons? Sometimes you're in a spot where yours will probably be the only photo, like Beulah, Mississippi or Hardy, Mississippi or Camp White Sulphur Springs Confederate Cemetery, but if you're taking a picture of the Statue of Liberty, it better be a good one.
- Finally, be careful in placing photos into the right article. Look it up on Google Maps and make sure the photo is absolutely in the correct location and article. For example, if a town is located on a lake, and you take a picture of just the lake, then it wouldn't be much use in an article about the town. I very often remove photos of airplanes in the sky (coming in for landing) from articles about airports. This program lets you add geo-coordinates to your photos.
- I hope this helps. Thanks again for writing. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:26, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. I did not know the rule about no night photos, and I will consider the issue with over-colorizing as well. Those historic photos of Niagra Falls are interesting! It's definitely nice adding photos to small towns as well, those seem to be the photos most useful. I've added almost all the photos I can to Wikipedia, so at most I could contribute a few more times in the near future. Then, I might have to wait a couple years to stock up on photos to contribute! But maybe I'll find more small town photos. Best, Richard — Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardmouser (talk • contribs) 04:56, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Loranger, Louisiana, you may be blocked from editing. Please stop removing Kayla Ard from the Loranger, Louisiana page. Kayla Ard is mentioned in 6 other articles right here in the english wikipedia. As the head coach of the Utah State female basketball team she has been featured on ESPN and some of the largest media outlets in both Louisiana and Utah. She passes enough of WP:NSPORT for a brief mention in the town article content. DavidDelaune (talk) 17:53, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- @DavidDelaune: Are you referring to Kayla Ard? Magnolia677 (talk) 17:57, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Instead of adding her to the bullet point list I am considering adding an entire section in the article featuring a few local athletes. There is already a problem in the world with domination by males in society. I would like to give female athletes some encyclopedic coverage. And we seem to have the similar problems here on Wikipedia with more articles featuring males. What would you think about moving her mention directly into article content? DavidDelaune (talk) 18:08, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- @DavidDelaune: I think that until you write an article about this person, she will continue to be removed as a non-notable. I would also appreciate if you would strike your warning above. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:12, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Are you telling me that you believe editors cannot mention people unless they have their own wikipedia article? That doesn't make any sense. By the way, I couldn't help but notice that you appear to be engaged in multiple edit wars across a half dozen articles. I think it would be best if the warning remains. Looking through your edit history I really do see what I would describe (in my opinion) as disruptive editing. DavidDelaune (talk) 18:20, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, from the sources you provided, I do not see how she passes WP:NCOLLATH. Also, if you were to mention her anywhere, it would be on the school's article, not the town's. - Adolphus79 (talk) 18:35, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- Kayla Ard is head coach of a NCAA Utah State Aggies women's basketball team which is directly mentioned in WP:NCOLLATH DavidDelaune (talk) 18:54, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- Then, by all means, feel free to create an article about her, but please find more than one reliable source that contains more than a mere mention of her. Per WP:USCITIES#Notable people, "A fast and easy way to establish this is if they already have an article written about them on Wikipedia, since it would have never been approved, or would have been deleted, if they did not meet notability requirements. This is not the sole rationale for inclusion, since some people who might meet notable standards may not have an article, but it is a quick reference. If challenged, additions without their own article should be removed and discussed on the talk page of the city, until a consensus is reached." and I see no attempt by you to discuss this on the town's talk page, or anywhere else before placing a warning template here. - Adolphus79 (talk) 19:03, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- I am just trying to be a good editor and add a mention of a NCAA woman's basketball head coach to her home town article body. I don't understand why editors would object to this. Do you now agree that she appears to pass WP:NCOLLATH guidelines? Do you believe that the person should be removed from the Utah State Aggies women's basketball article too? As I previously stated, feel free to create an article about her if you can find more than one reliable source that has more than a mere mention of her. I'm just pointing out that, per guidelines and policies, "a good editor" would have tried to discuss the changes on the town's talk page before placing a uw-disruptive3 template here, or opening (what appears to be) a bad faith edit warring report on Magnolia677 (especially considering that your activity is the more aggressive in this case). The fact that you are trying to push the inclusion of this person (whether notable or not) onto the article without following the guidelines and policies set in place by previous consensus, or even attempting to discuss it on the talk page, is verging on WP:OWN as well as failing to assume good faith. From what I can see, Magnolia677 was simply following standard procedure here, and you got upset about it and reacted poorly instead of trying to discuss it and come to a consensus. - Adolphus79 (talk) 19:36, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

- I don't perceive that consensus was reached at either place. If the reverting continues, it may be necessary to protect the page. Insulting the other party doesn't advance the discussion. EdJohnston (talk) 19:24, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- As the other "involved party", I need to say that I too believe there was no such consensus reached. While I did initially defend Magnolia677's original revert(s) as just following consensus, after DavidDelaune pointed out the individual was a head coach of a Division I school, I conceded that she was in fact notable enough for inclusion under WP:NCOLLATH. While WP:USCITIES#Notable people states that having an article is a fast and easy way to establish notability, and therefore inclusion in such lists, it also clearly says in the next sentence that this is not the sole rationale for inclusion, since some people who might meet notable standards may not have an article. Once DavidDelaune established notability (and WP:V) with the reliable sources, that should have been the end of this. Although DavidDelaune's methods were less than civil, in the end, the individual is in fact notable enough for inclusion. - Adolphus79 (talk) 20:06, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- WP:NCOLLATH is a guideline for article creation, not for inclusion within an existing article. However, there was a consensus of hundreds during the creation of Template:Uw-badlistentry and WP:USCITIES#Notable people, two guidelines which are applicable and which were shared with that editor. It is unfortunate the other editor chose to employ methods--going Reddit to obtain support--which have been specifically pointed out as ways to undermine consensus-building. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:16, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- WP:NCOLLATH is a notability guideline, for inclusion in general, whether the individual has an article or not... just because someone does not currently have an article, does not imply they are not notable enough to have one, and therefore notable enough for mention within the pages of this encyclopedia...
- Please note: I have not reverted your last edit to Loranger, Louisiana, but actually added her to the list at Hammond, Louisiana (with citation), due to the fact that the sources all state that is where she is from... - Adolphus79 (talk) 20:23, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Magnolia677 (talk) 20:16, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
@Adolphus79: My fault completely! Because there are no smilees or emoticons on Wikipedia, I totally misinterpreted your feelings on this one and came to the erroneous conclusion that you and I were...you know...in consensus when you wrote:
- [5] - "from the sources you provided, I do not see how she passes WP:NCOLLATH."
- [6] - "feel free to create an article about her, but please find more than one reliable source that contains more than a mere mention of her".
- [7] - "Per WP:USCITIES#Notable people, 'A fast and easy way to establish this is if they already have an article written about them on Wikipedia, since it would have never been approved, or would have been deleted, if they did not meet notability requirements. This is not the sole rationale for inclusion, since some people who might meet notable standards may not have an article, but it is a quick reference. If challenged, additions without their own article should be removed and discussed on the talk page of the city, until a consensus is reached.'
Then after I revert the edit, and Ed Johnson comes knocking, you write "While I did initially defend Magnolia677's original revert(s) as just following consensus, after DavidDelaune pointed out the individual was a head coach of a Division I school, I conceded that she was in fact notable enough for inclusion under WP:NCOLLATH". Really? I must have missed that. Let's put an end to this on my talk page, ok? I'll take this over to Hammond, Louisiana. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:17, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- No worries, this is basically a moot point now... - Adolphus79 (talk) 21:20, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Why did you just revert my addition to Hammond, Louisiana after we just established that she is in fact notable enough for inclusion under WP:NCOLLATH? I'm not sure what the argument could be at this point, you claim to want to discuss this addition per WP:USCITIES#Notable people. Please explain why you think she is not notable enough for inclusion. - Adolphus79 (talk) 23:55, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Adolphus79: I never agreed she was notable, and I'm hardly convinced she would pass WP:NCOLLATH. In fact, I've been unable to locate any significant biographic details about her; just routine coverage and press releases. If you think she's notable write an article about her. Until then, start a discussion at Talk:Hammond, Louisiana, were I assure you I will respond. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:21, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, not going to split up the conversation across multiple talk pages when the bulk of this conversation is already here. As the head coach of the women's basketball team, that very clearly means she meets WP:NCOLLATH #5, and the 2 reliable sources I cited with he addition to the Hammond article both had rather extensive biographical information, including that she was originally from Hammond and graduated from Loranger High School. What more do you need to pass notability guidelines? - Adolphus79 (talk) 00:35, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Adolphus79: I reverted my edit at Hammond. I need to work on another way to prevent non-notables from being added to city articles, as it opens the door to every non-notable addition becoming and an AFD, and to editors wishing to circumvent the article creation process. With the amount of garbage added to the notable people section of articles, I'm likely to get a lot of support. Regards. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:58, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Once again, please explain how she is not notable, if she very clearly passes WP:NCOLLATH #5 as the head coach. I feel like you are ignoring the notability guidelines, and requiring someone to have an article before you will admit to notability. - Adolphus79 (talk) 01:02, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

- @Abbillal and Adolphus79: I tweaked the reference a bit. Abbillal, you may want to add the page number(s). Also, if you want to cite that book again in this article, all you need to do is add <ref name="Stamm"/> after your text. Thanks to both of you! Magnolia677 (talk) 21:52, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

@Adolphus79: Thanks so much for the help. Can I use the same format for any references from now on.? Abbillal (talk) 07:58, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Abbillal: Different types of sources--books, journals, news articles, webpages--have slightly different formats. WP:CS1#Templates lists many different citation templates. Whichever you use, be sure it starts with <ref> and ends with </ref>. Good luck. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:12, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

I was just flagged for cut and pase
[edit]Hello, you just wrote on my talk page & so I wanted to go in depth on what happened... I live in the town of New Fairfield, Connecticut & I happen to know a great deal about the history of my town. (Life-long resident) there is common knowledge history of the town & I just picked an article from our local news & paraphrased off of that. This particular user who flagged me for cut and paste is simply trying to be immature and get me any way he can by doing this. He is upset I changed my edit history back after he changed it to something so abysmal it hurts. He made it hard for students and new residents to truly learn the history of our town while I made it easy. I’m hoping you will review everything. Elvisisalive95 (talk) 15:10, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Laurel Christian High School is a terrible article overall. I'm trying to clean it up, and I'm looking for an opinion as to whether the section "embezzlement" is at all appropriate for a school article. Sadly, it's the only RS in the article. TIA!Jacona (talk) 21:51, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Jacona: There's a bit of demographic info here, which relates directly to the school. I feel bad smearing a school with something negative, particularly when it doesn't relate directly to the school. Let me poke around and see what I can find. I know this is a stretch, but if students hop the fence right next to the school, they'll be in Hickory Grove Cemetery where they'll find the graves of musician L. C. Deserts Section for Wyoming
[edit]Magnolia677(talk) The second source [8] describes various deserts and desert features in the areas mentioned on the edit. It can be moved to the first citation for clarity. Maybe it the section can be re-named shrublands or, lowlands or something equivalent? But deserts is how most people in Wyoming would describe the terrain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chiffre01 (talk • contribs) 18:10, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Chiffre01: I looked carefully at all the sources you used in your edit before reverting, and some did not use the word "desert", while others did not mention "Wyoming", which alerted me that this was a questionable edit. If you look carefully at the source you linked to above, it talks about plants and places with "desert" in their names, but never once mentions a desert in Wyoming. Please find a source that says there is a desert in Wyoming. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:19, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
I think you are right, deserts is the wrong terminology here. I think "basins" would better describe the areas in question. The basins in Wyoming contain small areas of desert but there is some ambiguity as to exact classifications on much of the land. I would also replace the first reference with this site: http://www.landscope.org/explore/natural_geographies/ecoregions/Wyoming%20Basins/ . Would these changes be acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chiffre01 (talk • contribs) 19:54, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
Airport Contributions
[edit]Magnolia677, I do not nor have ever received payment for any content that I have modified, nor am I employed in such that is pre-knowledgable in this subject as that would be a MAJOR breach of corporate confidentiality. Recent revisions regarding routes that are no longer being flown are found doing research on an airline's website where you can find a route map. A source was disclosed regarding the addition of seasonal nonstop service via Delta to Anchorage was published on Delta's news hub. ALL revisions have been done using research on an airline's website or public relation news hub after such announcement/change has been made. To reference immediate changes that are not disclosed using a public newswire, please reference the OAG weekly report found here: https://www.oag.com/schedules-analyzer -Flymco753 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Flymco753 (talk • contribs) 22:17, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Flymco753: My concern is that you are a single-purpose editor. You have made 83 edits over 19 months, and every one of those edits has in some way been about Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC):
@Magnolia677:Whilst correct regarding making edits only pertaining to one specific airport, the reasoning is because a large airports air service is rapidly changing and requires accuracy to prevent false information. Because of this mistrust, I will no longer make contributions directly or in reference to Detroit Metropolitan Airport or air service adjustments. -Flymco753
- @Flymco753: If you have no connection to this airport, then please keep editing as you have. Your edits are all in good faith and do not seem promotional. Your edits had the appearance of a connected editor, but if you say no then I'm not going to pursue this at all. Thanks for your contributions! Magnolia677 (talk) 11:06, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
Bentonia, Mississippi
[edit]Earlier today, you undid an edit of mine on the premise that it had nothing to do with Bentonia, a town of fewer than 500 citizens in Yazoo County, Mississippi. Jimmy "Duck" Holmes is already mentioned in this article under the heading "Bentonia Blues," but I realize that I failed to clearly connect Jimmy "Duck" Holmes with his Grammy nominated album, Cypress Grove, in the initial edit. I placed the edit under the "Bentonia Blue" heading immediately after the pre-existing mention of Jimmy "Duck" Holmes. My listing of Holmes under "Notable people" was also undone. I hope we can agree that a Grammy nominated bluesman born and raised in a town of fewer than 500 people is a notable person in that town, and that a Grammy nomination for that artist is relevant to an article about the town. I wasn't sure if this was best addressed on a talk page or in the editing history, but I added the appropriate information when I reinstated my initial edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert Swann (talk • contribs) 19:21, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Robert Swann: My apology for deleting the notable people section. Thanks for adding it back. The article should focus on Bentonia, and not one particular person. Holmes has his own article where details about his life can be added. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:31, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
@Magnolia677: Thank you for your gracious reply. I notice that you also cleaned up the "Historical markers" section to remove, appropriately, material that was anecdotal and subjective, however engaging and informative it may have been. I understand that the Bentonia article should focus on Bentonia and not on an individual, and that Holmes has his own article (where I have added the relevant details about the Grammy nomination). However, were I to read the Bentonia article as is without prior knowledge of Mr. Holmes, I would conclude that Holmes is a café proprietor who happens to play guitar rather than a Grammy Award nominated blues artist with nine albums under his belt who happens to run a café. In other words, it is not immediately clear, without clicking on the link, why he merits mention in an article about Bentonia. A few descriptive words identifying Mr. Holmes would allow the reader to continue reading about Bentonia without clicking over to find out why the café owner matters. The reader learns from the article as written that Skip James and Jack Owens are important enough to have Mississippi Blues Trail markers, and that Holmes learned from Owens, but it is unclear that he, also, achieved success as an artist as opposed to being merely an amateur with a distinguished mentor. Here is the relevant copy as it currently appears, followed by a proposed revision:
- The Bentonia School, "Bentonia-style" or "Bentonia Blues" describe a country blues style that originated in and immediately around Bentonia. The annual Bentonia Blues Festival is held in June in Bentonia. The festival's stage is set up in front of the Blue Front Cafe, which is operated by Jimmy "Duck" Holmes who, as a young man, learned the local style from Bentonia Blues musician Jack Owens.
Proposed revision:
- The Bentonia School, "Bentonia-style" or "Bentonia Blues" describe a country blues style that originated in and immediately around Bentonia. Each year in the month of June, the Bentonia Blues Festival takes place on a stage set up in front of the Blue Front Cafe, which is operated by Grammy Award nominated blues artist and Bentonia native Jimmy "Duck" Holmes. As a young man, Holmes learned the local style from Bentonia blues musician Jack Owens.
Thanks again. Kindly let me know your thoughts on the proposed revision. I hope it need not be said, but I have neither a personal connection to Mr. Holmes nor an interest in promoting his Grammy nominated album. I follow the Bentonia article because a close friend of mine here in Dallas is from there. He is quite excited about the lustre Mr. Holmes' nomination brings to his small hometown. I'm a relatively new editor who most often edits topics relevant to African American built heritage. I will update to "Grammy Award winning" should Mr. Holmes take the Grammy home this evening.--Robert Swann (talk) 21:39, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Robert Swann: This discussion would be better had on the article itself. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:28, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
@Magnolia677: Okay. This is my first experience with talk pages. Would it be correct to duplicate this entire section by copying and pasting it as a new section at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bentonia,_Mississippi, or is it best to simply describe the proposed revision and the reasons advanced for it de novo, without reference to this exchange? I preferred not to make the revision without discussion, only to have it undone.--Robert Swann (talk) 22:53, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Riverton MB
[edit]It's geographic fact. I don't need to prove that the South Pole is located in Antarctica. Riverton's latitude (50 d, 59 min north) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverton,_Manitoba) is a fact of geography, and the then-northern border of Manitoba established in 1870 (50 d, 30 min north) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Manitoba#Late_19th_century) and not changed until 1880 places that border south of Riverton. Is that good enough? GBC (talk) 20:58, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Gcapp1959: Thank you for writing. A while back I expanded the article Lake Ontario Ordnance Works, and something that frustrated me was not being able to add a very obvious fact. If you look here you will see there were actually two roads at one time; one road carrying trucks going east, and the other carrying trucks going west. The road was divided so these trucks carrying highly radioactive waste along Pletcher Road wouldn't smash head-on into each other and dump their toxic loads all over the area. What is unfortunate is that I was not able to find a source to support this fact. If you are able to find a source to support your edit it would be best. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:07, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I still don't get it. I gave the link identifying the latitude of Manitoba's northern boundary, and I gave the link to the article about Riverton giving its latitude, and that latitude of Riverton is nearly one half of a degree greater, meaning further north. Exactly what sources more than these are required? I'm really scratching my head on this one. GBC (talk) 18:39, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Request help on Stephen Calk
[edit]Hi,
You are the last responsible editor on Stephen Calk. I was wondering if you could have a look at the changes that have been made by a new account. It's very suspicious. Their contributions showed them making 12 rapid edits which were all of the stupidly minor and useless variety like wiklinking the CEO title. Ten edits grants autoconfirmed status allowing them to upload a photo of the subject (which happens to be a copyvio of a professional profile photo). This looks like an account created to come in and whitewash a biography. Thanks. -- Whpq (talk) 00:25, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Replying to your message
[edit]It's a link to Bronson Sardinha's website I added it as a source since me adding in the part about his website was a apparently "unsourced" this doesn't deserve a warning.
I addedj the boxing program to The Spectrum page because I was the person in charge of the boxing program. I am J Russell Peltz and I ran Spectrum Fights from 1973 thru 2980 so I would appreciate it if you would put that paragraph back into Wikipedia. Boxing was very important at The Spectrum in those years and your omission of it is a msitake. A goat for you!
[edit]Thanks for removing the random popular culture bullet point about a secret society on the page for Luckenbach, Texas. I had edited to make it more accurate to the reality but it's best that it just be gone altogether. For reference Luckenbach is the short name for a WhatsApp group chat comprised of University of Edinburgh students.

Sarasota, Florida question
[edit]Hey User:Magnolia677, adding that event tied to the legend of Sara de Sota, in addition to the folklore, is a part of the city's history. The event, in particular, helped Sarasota gain popularity as a destination and it was sourced by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Sarasota historians. I don't understand why that wouldn't belong in the 'History' section of the entry? Penny for your thoughts. Snake Oil Wench (talk) 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Snake Oil Wench: Thank you for writing. Local legends are not mentioned at WP:USCITIES. Please also have a look at WP:FRINGE. It is important we keep content encyclopedic. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Madison
[edit]As you requested, I have included a new section on the talk page of Madison, WI, explaining the justification for clarifying the identity of the person after which the city was named. The information is tremendously historically relevant but the suppression of that information is also unfortunately also historically motivated by the white American establishment that has held power in the United States. My edit added factual, relevant and verifiable information to the article, regardless if it is unpalatable to your or others’ chosen narrative that perpetuates a racist culture in America. Question about source
[edit]Should niche.com be considered a WP:RS? Thanks in advance! Jacona (talk) 13:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Jacona: I don't see it listed at WP:ELP or WP:RSP, and it has not been discussed in the noticeboard archives. It also does not seem meet the criteria at WP:QUESTIONED. As well, niche.com lists its sources here. My concern about the site is probably the same as yours; that it appears to be a purely commercial website. But that doesn't disqualify it from being a reliable source. However, it may not be appropriate if used on a city article, per WP:USCITIES#Demographics, which suggests "The US Census should be the primary source of demographic data". That's my take. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 15:05, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. I also feel it's a weak source for school articles, but in cases where the school is not found on NCES, I guess it's better than the school website at least...Thanks! Jacona (talk) 15:46, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Added Edmund Gettier to historical section of Amherst Massachusetts page
[edit]I apologize in advance if I am am not following protocol, as I am learning. I added "Edmund L. Gettier III" to the historical page of the Amherst Massachusetts section and it was reverted. I would a) like to discuss whether it is appropriate to add him; and b) if so, determine how to cite correctly. Regarding the first point, his Wikipedia page itself states "Gettier's fame rests on a three-page article, published in Analysis in 1963 that remains one of the most famous in recent philosophical history" [1]. Would this be sufficient? A quick internet search would reveal quite a substantial amount of characterization on his work. If it is appropriate, can I simply use his Wikipedia page as a reference? Is there specific steps I need to follow, or will this be something I can work through myself through the user interface. Thanks in advance! DaveGettier (talk) 04:00, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
References
- @DaveGettier: Thank you for writing. Most edits on Wikipedia require a source to support them, but with additions to the "notable people" section of city articles, most editors are ok if the person's biography contains sufficient evidence the person lived in the city for a significant amount of time. When I looked at Edmund Gettier, it only shows he worked in Amherst. That's why I said in my edit summary "please provide a source supporting he lived here a significant amount of time". Please see WP:USCITIES#Notable people for details. I hope this helps. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:06, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks for getting back to me. You were quite correct in your monitoring of the images, how and by whom the images were being used. - @BusterD: Wikipedia doesn't absolutely outlaw COI editing, and the Commons seems happy to receive images from copyright holders. I personally have no beef with COI editors uploading high-quality images. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:16, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed. I'll start by saying not all paid editors are Wikipedia's opponents. I think we may share agreement with that statement. Again, this is my personal view. Several venerable institutions have wikipedian-in-residence programs. WP:GLAM is devoted to trying to promote Wikipedia connection with resources normally beyond our easy reach. I am and have always been a volunteer on Wikipedia. I've made a few COI edits in my youth here, but agree that transparency makes this entire experiment in getting along much more trustworthy. I've been watching the GLAM movement for some years and quite recently have myself taken the plunge with WP:GLAM/Pritzker, creating on my own articles which were project redlinks, based on the concept of the citizen soldier. I agree with the museum's mission so I'm helping out. Gives me an entirely new set of redlinks upon which to focus. Do you follow me so far? (Again, I'm not at all trying to sell my point of view but do want to preface these questions based on MY experience, which is different than yours.) BusterD (talk) 18:25, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Truth be told, I've made some COI edits to the Mega Society. Sure, if they want to make high quality contributions I have no issue. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:31, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

Last week I've had two very different experiences with separate COI editors and I think the statements I made in those spaces say something about my view. Here's one conversation with an editor who has disclosed their association as a volunteer leader of a non-profit. He recently blanked his talk page but I'm not yet holding that against him (he edits under his RL name). He admits his association and that's enough for me at this time. I noticed his work because I'm page creator and pagewatcher of an article he edited. Here's a quite different process on MfD about an editor whose contribution I reverted as clear COI vandalism last week. My last passionate and lengthy comment sort of summed up what I'm growing to feel, even if it might be a minority view among wikipedians. I'd like your take on my approach and my comments. Edits made to Memphis, Tennessee
[edit]Hi there
I received your welcome message and appreciate the useful information.
I made multiple edits that I believe you labeled as test, but they were not in fact tests.
Is there anyway to get all those edits back?
Thanks
Elizakat (talk) 19:24, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
@Elizakat: Thank you for writing. You made a large first edit, and you are well on the way to making better edits, though I would strongly advise you to start small and not give the appearance of spamming articles with your own photos. Here are a couple of reasons for deleting your edit:
- You added "The 901" as a nickname, but there is no source in the article to support this. See WP:V.
- You changed population data and used "memphiscrime.org" as a source. Please see WP:USCITIES#Demographics.
- You deleted two high-quality panorama images, and replaced them with low-quality photos you took yourself (over-colored night shots). You also removed the "wide image" templates, and replaced them with oversized "px" images. See MOS:IMAGES.
- You added a bunch of local, non-notable breweries, and added direct links to them within the article. This is not encouraged per WP:NOTTRAVEL and WP:EL.
- You piped the link to "Pink Palace Museum and Planetarium" to "Memphis Museum of Science and History", but when you click on the link...Pink Palace Museum and Planetarium. See MOS:LINK.
- You forced the table of contents, but I'm not sure why.
I hope this helps. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- And the photos you uploaded appear to be copyrighted. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:23, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
@Magnolia677: Just a few notes -
- I made a bunch of changes because I felt confident in it and it seemed relatively simple. I do believe I was wrong in thinking that, obviously if I made so many errors. Will do smaller edits from here on out.
- The 901 is a known locals thing, so no worries on that, just thought it would be nice to have.
- I was trying to insert the 2020 data as it showed on our city's website, but again all good it's not too different.
- I actually work for Memphis' DMO (Destination Marketing Organization) and all of these photos have been licensed for our use by the photographer themselves. I included their name in the file name, but wasn't sure how to do it otherwise. Those panorama images may be high quality, but they're old and we want to represent the city how it is now. Do you have any advise for this?
- I didn't realize the breweries could not be listed, we're known regionally for them so I thought it would be okay.
- The Pink Palace has recently rebranded and changed their name to the Memphis Museum of Science and History - Pink Palace. I was just trying to streamline their rebranding as they are a landmark attraction here.
- Table of contents was an accident :)
Elizakat (talk) 14:03, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Elizakat: As for the photos, if you go on the Commons there will be information about how to provide copyright ownership, but those photos will probably be deleted again, as they are not of the quality typically used on Wikipedia. Also, I will tag your talk page with a COI notice, which will give you more information regarding future edits. Thanks for responding. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 14:35, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
School Project
[edit]My sources were listed at the end of each section that had used the information from those sources. I am in a "Digitizing Oklahoma" class and was required to do this as an assignment. I used some new sources as well as some approved by my Composition II professor. If you want to change it, go ahead.
Sources issue
[edit]I looked back at a specific instance where you said I was missing sources. Either the source didnt copy over or someone deleted it. I will fix it right now. I am required to have that information up, so I will fix it to be put up so long as that is alright. If i mess up again, you are more than welcome to archive it. I just need the correct things up before I can print the webpage. I will leave you a talk page message as soon as I have the fixes finished. I apologize for any inconvenience.

- @Michilds382: This edit. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:59, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: That would be a reliable source from an educated source database available through my school's library subscription. I just need to know if there is a way to still get the printout of my edits. I put too many hours into this project to worry about doing it all over again and trying to put this back into the article. Am I able to recover and view my edits in edit history so I can print it? Also, gonna note that the sections before that you said were unsourced were most definitely sourced at the end of each paragraph. I used the same source for that whole paragraph in those instances, so I was not intending on plagiarizing.
- @Michilds382: I'd really like to help you, but let me get my facts straight first. You are enrolled in this course, and on that page there is a link to this help article, which contains an entire section entitled "Citing Sources on Wikipedia", but despite that, you added several enormous, unsourced edits, and now instead of saying, "gee, I guess I didn't follow instructions and messed up", you say, "I put too many hours into this project to worry about doing it all over again", and you ask a complete stranger who has volunteered thousands of hours to improving Wikipedia for a suggestion on how to somehow print the article so you can scam your instructor into believing you actually did it properly. Is this correct? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 23:28, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: I am not looking for anything except how to view the version of the article that was there after I inserted my edits. I meant before that I am not worried about making sure everyone sees my information if there is an issue with my sourcing. I just need access to what I did in order to print it and give to my professor, not trying to scam anyone. If there is an issue with my sourcing, there isnt much I can do for the overall article now. I m just worried about my project because it is my final exam. I spent all night last night doing it and need access to it because my grade depends on it. I am not trying to agitate you in any way, I just literally need the version with my stuff in it to pass this semester.
- My apology. See "view history" at the top right of the article. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:02, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

How to Edit A Page
[edit]Hi Magnolia 677, I would really like to edit Dupar's page to make it more simpler to read but my edits keep getting removed. Can you please help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmj1994 (talk • contribs) 19:41, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Tmj1994: Thanks for writing. I removed your edit because it was unsourced, but let's try to fix it. How many outlets does Dupars have? Their website says one, but the article says there is another location in Las Vegas. Is that location still open? If so, why doesn't it appear on the official website? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:51, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: It is a licensed location as the owners of the casino signed a licensing agreement to take over management which is why it is not listed on Dupars website. In March 2017, Boyd Gaming, the owners of the Suncoast Hotel and Casino, signed a licensing agreement with Du-par's to take over the management of the Du-par's restaurant inside their casino while still continuing the use of the Du-par's name and recipes.
- @Tmj1994: Is the source in the article about the Las Vegas location correct information? Magnolia677 (talk) 21:31, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Yes the source is correct. I linked the page for the casino's website showing Dupars in my edit.
- @Tmj1994: Great. I'll fix the sourcing tomorrow. Thanks for your help and understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:28, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Did you ever fix the sourcing?
- @Tmj1994: I added sources, but had to delete part of your edit because it repeated information already stated in the article. Let me know how it looks. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:10, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Why do you keep removing info about the public transport section??
[edit]I seriously dont understand your deal with the public transportation section in the Spokane Valley, Washington article. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and everyone has different ones and I respect that, I have tried to add additional sources to make you happy but you still say they dont work and you arent being constructive and telling me why you think those additions dont work so I cant fix them or add even more-you are just deleting them without elaborating on what you mean. Im trying to understand. From my short experience working with you on this article, it seems clear to me you are the decider and you are going to hawkishly monitor, filter, and dictate whatever goes into this article and are scrutinizing even the smallest things you dont agree with, such as 4 bytes to a link to a food truck...because mentioning that they are present at a fair isnt enough to justify it I guess for people not familiar with the term. I disagree with that but Im trying to choose my battles lol. Im literally stressed out and anxious to put things in this article now because youve been so domineering and I dont know if you will like what I write and just flat out delete most of an entire section I worked hard to source and write. I know I wont get a friendly "citation needed" or clarify" tag-it will probably just be deleted with an one or two word ambiguous explanation and leaving me wondering what to do to fix it. Most articles go through a growth stage where you put content in and then it gets pared back a later during reviews and copyedits etc, but it looks like this one will go through both stages at the same time if I can keep doig this...I was going to try to take this to Good Article like the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho article last year, but now I dont know if I have the energy to defend every sentence that you may or may not like and have to pry an actual explanation on why something doesnt work. And Ive invested like $80 acquiring the three volume book set I listed in the Futher reading section...might be money down the tubes.
So, please read the sources below and tell me what you think is needed to make this sentence good:
Due to the low population density of Spokane Valley, public transportation coverage and frequency of service is more limited; the STA has only one regular frequent route, but does have two peak use express routes that service the VTC hub.[1][2]
How is [9] not supported by the source and what exactly is needed to fix the sentence. I dont want this deleted since Im pretty sure I can find what is needed to fix it if only I knew...please tell me exactly how to do it so I can do it.
From my perspective, the STA System map shows a key that shows only one frequent bus route to the center of valley from the west and two express routes-both going out of the VTC hub, which is less than Spokane. With basic interpretation skills, a reader can also see in the STA System map that coverage is more limited as well. There is only one line that services the south and east valley, and zero frequent routes as we already saw-that route ends in the center of town. Why is that? Its a suburb of mostly single family residences with low population density as the Spokesman article I just put in says. It seems like you want me to cite that the sky is blue...please help me, be kind and understanding, and assume good faith. Please reply here on this page since I have a dynamic IP address and thanks for your help. 2001:5B0:4FC1:D268:6DB3:E953:4C0A:33D1 (talk) 01:34, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you for writing, and I am sorry you are experiencing so much frustration. My concern is that you have taken two pieces of information, from two different sources, and combined them to form a conclusion (otherwise called a WP:SYN). The infrequency of bus service might be due to the low population density, or it may be due to some other reason. An analogy would be that every September in the northern United States birds start to fly south, and a week later, children return to school (events both supported by multiple reliable sources); though one event is not "due to" the other. Just take out the part about the population density, or find a source to support it. You are welcome to start a discussion on the article's talk page as well. Thank you. Brookville Edits, New User
[edit]Hey there!
So I am new to editing Wikipedia articles, and edited for my hometown, and saw that you removed it which led me to create this profile. I brought back a section I saw was on this page years ago, that I thought would be great to bring back to the article. I have proof of both events primarily through YouTube, yet one being the actual film itself. I am also figuring out now how to talk on here, is the missing proof as to why you deleted my work? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChargeDodger (talk • contribs) 16:59, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Can you explain to me why not? The Super 8 reference was on the page for years and i wanted to bring it back. Are you from Brookville yourself? How did you take it out so quickly?
Dallas Fire-Rescue Edits
[edit]Hello. I apologize for not putting a source beforehand. I frequently listen to Dallas scanners and edit the Wikipedia page. The source I referenced to is the incident report page for the Box 4 Fire Buffs Association. This contains information about major information. Using the general consensus from each report I put together a response matrix. Obviously, there are some responses that are different, but those are the outliers. - Benhugheswiki, 5/21/21 09:04

[edit]Did we coincidentally hit the Farmerville article at the same time, or did you see my edits? Just curious, have no belief there's any stalking or anything going on. Found it amusing. Canterbury Tail talk 18:20, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Canterbury Tail: I saw your edits and to be honest, I wanted to find out more about Farmerville! The town is right on the water and there is a mouthwatering crawfish restaurant across the lake called Rhett's Tails and Shells.
- If you have a moment, please have a peek at Talk:Carmel, Indiana#Promotional content. I've been wanting to go forward with an RfC about "rankings" and promotional content for a while, and hopefully get a consensus similar to this one. I'm not sure how other city editors feel about this sort of content though. Thanks for writing! Magnolia677 (talk) 18:34, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, this is the user that made the NSA edit you reverted.
I looked back at the source and found you were correct; it did not mention any hacks and I should have either not mentioned the SolarWinds and Colonial incidents or provided a separate source for them. I agree that my initial source was inadequate in that it failed to support those claims and I apologize. I do believe it still supports the other claims, though.
The message you left on my talk page simply refers to the source as unreliable, which I would like clarification on. I agree that it was inadequate for all the information I added, but I found it to be credible and, although potentially-biased given its authorship, to be neutrally-written and authoritative. Does characterizing the source as unreliable mean you believe it cannot be used at all, or that I should have added another source for the hacks claim (which I agree with)?
If the answer is simple the second one, I propose this version of my previous edit:
In May 2021, pursuant to President Biden's Executive Order 14028/Executive Order on Improving the Nation's Cybersecurity passed in the wake of the SolarWinds and Colonial Pipeline hacks,Cite error: A <ref>
tag is missing the closing </ref>
(see the help page).
The new source, from a reputable third party media site, supports the claim that the EO came after these notable incidents. Neither my claims nor the article definitively attribute the EO to them, however. Is this new version acceptable, or should another source be found for the addition-of-mission claims? Thank you!
- @108.24.1.157: Thanks for writing. The message on your talk page is just a standard template, and you are correct that the source is reliable. It just didn't support all of the text you added. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:45, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Rejected External Links/Updates to Niagara Falls Wiki Page
[edit]Hi there,
I'd just like to discuss the rejected links to the Niagara Falls, Ontario wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls,_Ontario.
I'm a representative of the City of Niagara Falls, City Council Board of Management, Downtown District. Our governing powers can be found in City of Niagara Falls By-law No.98-247, should you have any questions please call our office phone at 905-356-5444 or you can call the City of Niagara Falls Clerks department and ask for us ("Downtown Niagara Falls Business Improvement Association") there at 905-356-7521. As representatives for the city, can we please have these links re-instated or confirmed? The other links currently on the Wikipedia page are from private enterprises such as the casinos, there's no reason why our links should be declined when there is already a precedent.
Best, Cortney Peters

Please don't worry about it! I know which edits you were referencing; I saw the history log (and my edit in that tiny government section was quite unnecessary, looking back at it). Honestly if you want to know something that really bothers me, it's the fact that I can't get the Wikimedia Commons link at the bottom to direct properly (so if you see a few edits pertaining to it within the next several hours and days, please forgive me – that's one template which I really wish I was better at using, and so I apologize in advance)!
Again, please don't worry! LINYperson615 (talk) 15:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Indigenous territories
[edit]You reversions of my edits are disruptive. I have conferred with WP:Canada on their discussion board. You're welcome to join or follow the conversation, but you are not welcome to disruptively revert edits. I know and understand WP:RS as well as WP:NPOV and have followed the guidelines accordingly. If you are familiar with indigenous history in Canada you will understand that finding a source to verify to which people the land of these cities belonged is limited to publicly available land acknowledgments created for use in post-secondary institutions or posted on city web sites. The alternative is to link to a map that is difficult to interpret and as an extension, makes verification a challenge for the layperson. Looks like you have a history of vandalism and poor relations with other editors, so I kindly ask that you refrain from reverting my edits at this time. Mcbrarian (talk) 15:45, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Your reversions of my edits continue to be disruptive and are frankly perpetuating a toxic editing environment. The consensus so far is that this information belongs in wikipedia. The next logical step is not to erase my contributions but to move them to the appropriate location once the community reaches consensus.Mcbrarian (talk) 18:05, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Mcbrarian: There is a clearly established consensus not to include that information in the first line of the article. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:49, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- I've taken several days to reflect on our interactions here, my talk page, and at WP:CA. I've removed myself from the conversation to protect my mental well-being and I am not here to engage in further discussion about the validity of including Indigenous territory information in articles about Canadian cities. I am here to acknowledge that I felt personally attacked and while I am absolutley not accusing you of doing so, I think it can explain why I became quite defensive and accusatory towards you. I apologize for accusing you of perpetuating a racist agenda. Because of my feelings, I failed to assume good faith at the outset. Moving forward, I will do better to see the forest for the trees and not allow my interpretation of the tone in comments to interfere with their substance. Mcbrarian (talk) 14:16, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Mcbrarian: No offense taken! You work in academia so I completely understand your immediate focus on race and feeling offended. Your library is in a large city called Hamilton. Did you know they have a hospital there named after an aboriginal named Joseph Brant? Magnolia677 (talk) 15:53, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your gracious understanding. Yes I know that hospital. It's actually located in the city of Burlington though, Hamilton's next-door neighbour. Mcbrarian (talk) 16:04, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Mcbrarian: Joseph Brant owned at least 30 African slaves. How the hell did he get a hospital named after him? Magnolia677 (talk) 16:19, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- I honestly don't know enough to answer that. But what I do know, and I'm not defending his slave-owning practices here, is that he was very well-liked by the British Crown. Which, I think, speaks to the complexity of his relationship with his colonizers. Even though I don't know the answer, I suspect it's not an easy one. Mcbrarian (talk) 17:41, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Mcbrarian:Ah, that's probably it. Brand did so much to help the British, that people overlook he was a slave trader. If we start judging well-intentioned historical figures by today's moral standards, next thing you know we'll be going after people like Egerton Ryerson, who established your educational system up there in Ontario. Anyway, cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 17:58, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Pronunciations reverted
[edit]I saw you reverted several of the pronunciations I added for Iowa cities yesterday. I understand that this is in line with the policy that only counterintuitive pronunciations be included in the lede. I moved to Iowa last year from the Arkansas and, with the exception of Atalissa, all the towns I added pronunciations for were places I wasn't sure how to pronounce; Audubon in particular is pronounced "AW-duh-bun" in Iowa, but my first impression was to pronounce it "AW-duh-bon." What's your rule-of-thumb for when pronunciations should be provided? Hawgeye (talk) 23:02, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Hawgeye: Thanks for writing. I reverted the pronunciations that seemed clearly intuitive, but feel free to revert. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:50, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

I'll just stop editing altogether. Witch-hunt editing like yours is counterproductive. Stick to Mississippi.
Reply Concerning the Boundaries of Rancho Dominguez, California
[edit]Hello, Magnolia677: It is a pleasure to know that someone is so graciously willing to help me navigate this interesting site. I would appreciate your help. Nevertheless, my concern is that the editor (Rdp060707) will not be satisfied with my changes to the Rancho Dominguez, California information. The person seemed to think that I did not cite my corrections. I cited one as follows: (Google Maps, Map Data 2021). The other began this way: "According to Google Maps, etc." How do I eliminate the wordiness of my revisions and carefully provide sources? Would you prefer to see the entire section with my corrections or just my corrections; I forgot to save them, so please tell me what you need to know about my errors. Thank you for offering to help me. Amberskys (User talk:Amberky|talk]]) 10:41, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Music of Texas: Punk Rock section
[edit]I'm a new user just starting out who really loves music. I don't want to waste anybody's time, but could use some help understanding what makes a rock band notable, especially regarding regional music scenes of long ago. Thanks for any help! Peterh6658 (talk) 00:18, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Peterh6658: Thanks for writing. My concern with your edit to Music of Texas was that you added a non-notable band. In simplest terms, "not notable" means the band, Max and the Makeups, does not have a Wikipedia article, per WP:NMUSIC and WP:GNG (that's why the link is red instead of blue). This is not a definite rule when adding text to an article, but because it is assumed that readers of this article want information about what is most notable about the music of Texas, adding a non-notable band might not improve the article. It might also encourage editors to start listing non-notable bands in the hope of somehow gaining exposure on Wikipedia. Some essays about music notability include WP:E=N and WP:SOUNDCLOUDBAND. You are welcome to start a discussion on the article's talk page; perhaps this was an influential Texas band and no one has yet taken the time to write a Wikipedia article about them. The best option would be to actually create a Wikipedia article about the band, though I doubt that would be successful, as I was able to locate almost no secondary sources to support the band's notability. I hope this helps. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:10, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
Comments on Haverhill, Iowa edits
[edit]I appreciate your help with maintaining professionalism and consistency on a somewhat marginal Wikipedia page about a very small town. However, I have to object to a number of the edits you made on a page I'd been pretty exclusively working on, as I think the rules are being over-applied in some cases. As always, points of disagreement are what conversations often focus on, but I want to reiterate that I appreciate you helping me stick to Wikipedia's standards.
1. Photos The previous images were valuable, did not violate the MOS, and are more appropriate than the Blacksmith shop photo (though I think retaining the blacksmith shop photo elsewhere in the article is justifiable). The two historic photos of the bank and town were all that was available through the public domain online and stored at the Library of Congress. Per MOS:IMAGEQUALITY there isn't a problem with the Library of Congress watermarks on the margins of the photos. Moreover, MOS:PERTINENCE would suggest that the image of the town in the infobox should be what it is meant to represent. In the previous photo, you could see a highly visible church, the town bar, and an adjacent house. The town Blacksmith shop, while notable enough to have its own page, is not the best representation of the town. Notability is not described anywhere in the MOS that I can see as a criterion for photographs. Maybe I missed something, but it seems apparent that restoring these photos is the clear path forward.
2. Sourcing For future reference, can you just flag uncited claims instead of deleting them wholecloth without any discussion on the Talk page? From the page history, it's clear I was active in this page. Wholesale deletions were unnecessary here. I'm going to go back and re-add previously unsourced information, but these deletions created unnecessary hassle for me.
3. The notability of the bar Per WP:NNC notability is not a criterion for mention in the article. While WP:NNC does point to other considerations, the article on Haverhill, Iowa is not long, and I do not anticipate it will ever be especially long. Notes on the town social club do not crowd out other important information, so re-adding it to the article seems the natural path forward.
4. Pronunciation I left a note that I thought pretty clearly addressed why MOS:LEADPRON does not apply here. Towns of the same name exist in other parts of the United States with different pronunciations, most notably Haverhill, Massachusetts. I anticipated this attempt to revert my edit, and am surprised it doesn't appear to have been addressed. So unless there's some other reason not to bring this back, my plan is to go ahead and re-add it.
Again, my disagreements are isolated to the issues I'm bringing up, and I think a lot of this could have been handled more productively on the town's talk page rather than the limited space we have to explain edits. I agree with a lot of the organizational changes and appreciate the chance to rethink what's especially important here. Thanks again for giving this article another set of eyes, and giving me the chance to become a bit better informed on Wikipedia's rules and procedures. --TheBananaKingForgot (talk) 23:54, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
- @TheBananaKingForgot: Thank you for writing. Could you please move this discussion the the article's talk page where other editors can also join in. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:02, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
