2008 Summer Olympics closing ceremony flag bearers

[edit]

Please don't create and abandon articles like 2008 Summer Olympics closing ceremony flag bearers ever again. The completely incorrect information you added there has been on Wikipedia for more than two years now and been seen by thousands of people. If you don't have the correct information, or don't have the time to add it, then don't create the page or leave the information out. Knowingly including false information is vandalism. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 1975 referendum: errors in numbers of YES votes

[edit]

The numbers of yes votes were originally shown as: Wales 869135; All UK 17378581: and the numbers tally.

However at some stage you changed these figures to: Wales 865139; All UK 17378851; and the numbers no longer tally.

Will you correct these in both articles?----Ehrenkater (talk) 16:10, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Of course I will correct it as it not a intentional change I just copied it down wrong. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 12:43, 2 June 2016 (UTC))[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Accession of the United Kingdom to the European Economic Community. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Enlargement of the European Union. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Enlargement of the European Union – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. 331dot (talk) 13:38, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello MOTORAL1987. All or some of your addition(s) to Results of the United Kingdom European Communities membership referendum, 1975 has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 00:10, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of British political crisis, 2016

[edit]

The article British political crisis, 2016 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This appears to be a largely factually accurate account of somewhat related major political events but their portrayal as one recognised phenomenon and characterisation as a crisis seems to be unsupported, novel and POV.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your recent edit to the page European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill 2017 appears to have added incorrect information, so I have removed it for now. If you believe the information was correct, please cite a reliable source or discuss your change on the article's talk page. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. The Bill is actually not extended to Gibraltar, and nowhere in the Bill actually says so (mentions Gibraltar). Foreign and external affairs and relations of Gibraltar are already officially handled by the UK (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) and HM Government [in the UK] (the UK (Home)) Government) anyway. This is absolute, patent British (and Gibraltar) constitutional nonsense! -- 87.102.116.36 (talk) 21:20, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copying licensed material requires proper attribution

[edit]

Hi. I see in a recent addition to European Union (Finance) Act 2015 you included material from a webpage that is available under an Open Parliament Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this legal requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:50, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted all the page moves, as "YYYY Cricket World Cup" is correct as per WP:UCN. Please see discussions here and here and request a move if you disagree. Spike 'em (talk) 10:34, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On a similar note, regarding your recent move of Grenfell Tower fire, it might be better if you were to raise potential moves at WP:RM rather than moving pages. I've known editors end up at WP:ANI over problematic page moving, with the result that they are either restricted from moving pages at all, or end up blocked. Would rather not see that happen if at all possible. Mjroots (talk) 12:40, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken look I am sorry for not consultanting the talk page first and I apologise but I don't like some of the personal stuff that has been thrown at me in response, I just have a slightly different view of things but all on the same boat and I think it's really sad that my slight different views can't be quite taken into account what's the difference between using the word fire or disaster? (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 12:44, 24 June 2017 (UTC))[reply]
Fire is less "tabloid", but if anyone searches for "Grenfell Tower disaster", the redirect will get them to the article. Have asked at Grenfell Tower fire talk page for people to back off a bit. Mjroots (talk) 12:47, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You've just broken WP:3RR on the referendum articles. Please self-revert or I'm afraid I'll be requesting your account be blocked. Cheers, Number 57 19:03, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted as I was not aware of this rule I apologies I am just very frustrated at this problem. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 19:08, 30 March 2018 (UTC))[reply]
Thank you. I'm sorry you're frustrated, but we have a referendum template for a reason – to ensure consistency. When people start making up their own templates, we lose that consistency, and it can then become a problem on other articles when editors see a table in one article and start making arguments along the lines of "if it's ok there, why can't we use it here" etc. Number 57 19:09, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is been no problem until today with the template for the EU referendum, in fact I have built on the template and used it in other articles as I think it’s much clearer to see and also it has a nice professional quality to it and I am really upset that it’s no longer accepted when it’s been on the article for about a year. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 19:13, 30 March 2018 (UTC))[reply]
It doesn't matter that something hasn't been identified as a problem for a certain amount of time – some issues on Wikipedia are not corrected for many years. And it was creating problems because people were occasionally trying to copy the format into other articles. Again, I'm sorry that you're upset, but really you should never have created a non-standard table in the first place when we already had an existing one. I think the template also violates WP:MOSICON as there is no reason for the flag to be included. Number 57 19:17, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well good luck with all the reverting as virtually all UK referendum articles carry this version of the template and I am very proud of my work regardless of weither it has broken rules or not. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 19:24, 30 March 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Just to let you know, if you revert across any of the articles again, then I'm going to be requesting that your main account is blocked. If you then continue to edit through IPs, all your edits will be immediately reverted and the block on your main account will be extended significantly. Number 57 11:36, 7 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

August 2018

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give First Minister and deputy First Minister (Northern Ireland) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:13, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

First of all I do sincerely apologise for this outcome, I made a missive mistake when I capitalise the deputy first Minister when I titled it as “First Minister and Depty First Minister of Northern Ireland and I am trying to change it to to “First Minister and depty first Minister of Northern Ireland” however my efforts have lost the talk page as a result, please can you help so we can have a correct and proper title for this article along with its talk page. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 18:18, 15 August 2018 (UTC))[reply]
I don't have the right permissions to do what you need. I would ask at requested moves. I would expect it to be an uncontroversial move. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:19, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hong Kong Act 1985 moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hong Kong Act 1985, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:09, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Brexit, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Liberal Democrats (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 11:30, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to denote a signatory to a treaty who subsequently withdrew from it

[edit]

Just a note to assure you that I recognise your good faith in trying to find a way to denote a signatory to a treaty who subsequently withdrew from it. It is a very important issue, with widespread implications. For example, what if a signatory withdrew unilaterally? Or signed it and then ignored it anyway? Yes, we need some way to indicate such things but I really believe that it is too important for a WP:BEBOLD. It needs raising at wikipedia talk:Manual of Style first. As you identified the issue first, then you should be the one to raise it: I will definitely support your doing so if you do a reply here or leave a note on my talk page. I can easily see a consensus around your proposal (I don't have a better one other than using a footnote like in a book, maybe we can be cleverer than that). --Red King (talk) 17:10, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MOTORAL1987:. I have reverted your edits to the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Act 2020 and Senedd and Elections (Wales) Act 2020. Acts of the National Assembly for Wales are simply known as Welsh Acts for short and this is the name used on the Infobox UK Legislation template. Llemiles (talk) 20:53, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brexit topics template: bye-elections

[edit]

If you look at the recent history of that template, you will see that I reverted the addition of four bye-elections in 2016 and 2017, because no reason was given and it seemed to me to be just more clutter. You have just added a couple more but not those ones. I'm walking away now but maybe you should either add those four or else add a comment to explain the criteria for inclusion. There is no doubt, for example, that Goldsmith lost the Richmond Park bye-election because of being a hard brexiteer in a strongly remain constituency. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 14:55, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Hong Kong Act 1985, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Sorry about that I was wanting to kinda bring the article into line with the Irish article. I don’t know why the UK article has to be classed as a “list” but in light of what you have said I have reverted all changes to before I started making changes, sorry. No problem. If you want to propose a move I reccommend using WP:TWINKLE and once you have that installed, in the "TW" dropdown that appears in the desktop skin you can select "XFD" and then "Requested Moves" in the drop down that appears. Category suppression needed at User:MOTORAL1987

[edit]

Hi. Just a friendly reminder about user page categorization.

I've noticed your user page (linked above) is appearing in regular content categories. See Category:United Kingdom politics sidebar templates under R. This is discouraged. See WP:DRAFTNOCAT and WP:USERNOCAT for additional information.

Usually the situation is remedied by placing a leading colon at the beginning of each category declaration like so:

[[:Category:United Kingdom politics sidebar templates]]

or, by bracketing any category declaration(s) with Template:Draft categories like this:

{{Draft categories|
[[Category:United Kingdom politics sidebar templates]]
}}

Either method will disable the category function. Thank you. Cheers! --DB1729talk 13:24, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

April 2024

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Risegate a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). Thank you. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:43, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
