The Chicken shit Barnstar
For improving Wikipedia by creating an article on an unusual but historically notable term. Your efforts have spawned the "stone soup" effect with your fellow editors, encouraging a cooperative environment. This epitomizes the true purpose of Wikipedia. Dennis Brown - 19:03, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

The irony was simply too delicious to pass up, and while humourous, the intent was quite serious. I really appreciate you boldly improving the encyclopedia this way. It may sound silly, but I think having small articles on these terms is very important. It is the kind of odd ball term that someone might look up on Google, and now will find with sources and everything. A little more expanding with Mastcell's ideas and it will be a great little article. Dennis Brown - 00:04, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
And now it turns out that your little rescue of a minor redirect has spawned TWO articles. One of them at DYK. Amazing how quickly the chicken manure piles up. --MelanieN (talk) 19:08, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello to the members of WikiProject Women writers! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. Well hello there

recalling a "ping me anytime" comment a while back, I thought I'd post here. I was away for a good part of 2014 (other than fixing typo things as an IP), and want to get back into the flow of things. So anyway - I was going through one of my things and ran across this, so over the past month or so I've been plugging away at it a little at a time. It had been up for GA I think 3 times, but that's not where I'm headed. (I don't often venture into that stuff - although I did a few GA, DYK, FA kinda things back in the day). Geesh - why do I have such a hard time just saying what I want. I was wondering if you would have a look at Bonny Hicks and give me any feedback on what I've done and what you think might help me be a better editor. (I didn't remove the ce tags) Thank Lady. Cheers and best. — Ched :  ?  15:38, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Help Please

Hi, you have been useful many times before.

Yesterday I created a page on "Sir James Barr"... now relabelled as "James Barr (physician)" which is not a problem

however my references were tagged as "linkrot" by Masum Ibn Musa...not that I could see the problem but I have re-referenced as a hard copy equivalent.

But I cannot get rid of his linkrot tag as a Notification !? it keeps showing as if it is unread. Any advice/ fix??

Thanks --Stephencdickson (talk) 11:23, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Sounds like you need to click on the notification itself. Click the little red number where it shows up. If you have indeed done that, then maybe try clearing your cache - maybe your computer just isn't reloading a clean copy of the page. LadyofShalott 16:19, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Clicking the red number is what I normally do... which normally then does not reappear... it is not computer/laptop linked as it is the same problem from my work computer or at home... I am bamboozled, have not seen this before... thank you for your adjustment to the article--Stephencdickson (talk) 18:37, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Please comment on American Gods

I see you removed the section on Plot Holes. Just wondering if it's common practice in Wikipedia book articles to exclude that sort of content? If so, my apologies for the original edit and thank you for removing it. —  Apgold (talkcontribs) 18:54, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Apgold, well, I can't say I've seen such a section before, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be one. We commonly let plot sections go unreferenced, with the tacit understanding that the work is itself the reference. You could make the case that your section was merely an extension of that. I considered that, but deleted on the grounds that I thought you had strayed into WP:original research territory - that it was too much your original thought. A couple suggestions - seek other opinions of WP editors (I'm not certain enough of my position, and others may well have no problem with the section you added) and/or strengthen your section by citing secondary sources. So and so commented on this plot hole. Blah blah blah Then it would be much harder for anyone to dispute the section. LadyofShalott 02:55, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi LadyofShalott - thank you for the feedback. It is very helpful. You raise an interesting question on whether such a section should be included. Unfortunately I don't have a good evidence-based answer. When I first discovered the plot holes, I searched for others who might have commented on such holes, but couldn't find anything online. I did discover one person in my personal (offline) network who had read the book, and she commented that when she first read the book she didn't notice the holes, but after seeing what I had published on Wikipedia (before you removed it), she verified that the plot holes were indeed true holes. So, in this sense, while I couldn't find any online secondary sources, I do have at least one "external" validation. However, I can see your point of view regarding original research. In a sense, my logic was used to find plot holes in the novel. On the other hand, one might argue that the novel itself is the reference for which the plot holes are self-evident. For example, the section on Characters (e.g. Shadow, Laura, etc.) contains no secondary sources - rather the writer(s) of that section simply summarized from the novel. Likewise, my section on Plot Holes simply pointed out holes that are in the novel, independent of any opinion or research being required to document. I have very little experience editing pages on Wikipedia (mostly just minor edits of a grammatical nature), so I'm not sure how best to proceed. Is there a way to invite other folks to comment on this matter? Once again, I really appreciate your clarification and help. Apgold (talk) 02:27, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
Apgold, I see someone else has removed the section, calling it trivia. At this point, yes, it would be best to seek additional discussion on all of this. You can do that by starting a section at Talk:American Gods. LadyofShalott 16:25, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Double confirmations

Hi, Lady. It's been a while!

If you've done any rollbacks on a mobile device lately, you've probably noticed that you've had to do a double confirmation. That's because recently, a few years after I wrote my little script, the Powers That Be decided that it would be a Good Thing to provide that functionality for everybody. So a gadget was added and turned on by default. (It can be turned off in Preferences under Gadgets.) The gadget is a little fancier than my simple script, telling you who and how many edits you'll be rolling back. So I'd recommend that you remove importScript('User:Mandarax/ConfirmMobileRollback.js'); from User:LadyofShalott/monobook.js.

Kelapstick, this also applies to you. I think we three were the only insightful people using my script. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 21:56, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Mandarax, I have removed it. In reality I hadn't noticed, as I don't access my main account on mobile devices (I found it was too easy to mistakenly block/delete), and my sock account doesn't have rollback (I never had it until I became an admin, so I don't really miss it). I guess that someone figured your efforts were worth copying, and mimicry is the most sincere form of flattery. --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:30, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
I'm curious.... Are blocking and deleting one-click functions, or do they require confirmation? Of course, no matter how many clicks (touches) are required, strange things can happen with mobiles, such as when I accidentally fell asleep with one and mysteriously ended up with a new Facebook friend. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 23:28, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
They don't require confirmation as in "are you sure", but it does take you to a screen where you make your selections, and click block/delete/protect (depending on what you are doing). The easy block script is truly easy and could quickly go awry from a mobile (the new twinkle module operates in the same manner as garden variety warning does, so wouldn't be as much of a risk of accidental blocking). As you say, things can go pear-shaped in a hurry on a mobile, so I find it is best not to take the risk. --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:37, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the info! MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 23:43, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

list of guitarists with signature guitars

I'm on the fence about that list which I noted you have prod'ed. It wasn't clear to me that you understood what a signature model was though from the rationale you gave, perhaps just badly worded, but... It isn't a guitar that someone owns, basically it is about a manufacturer who decides to honour a particular artist, who would tend to be very well known, (or clever marketing ploy if you prefer) by working with them to produce a model to their exact specifications for approval by them (though I suspect in many cases not necessarily for playing by them). Once the model is approved it is then sold to others using that artists signature either as a strictly small limited edition custom made line, or as a more general issue model. The notability of each signature model could be objectively measured by the amount of independent reviews. Very famous examples would be models which copy Brian May's red guitar, or Carlos Santana's PRS model. There is quite likely to be a fair amount of detail written in the music press to discuss independently all the details of each design - ie what makes the Eric Clapton signature approved Stratocaster different from the standard Fender model, similarly the Johnny Marr Fender Jaguar. --  18:15, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

OK, that was not clear before. Someone else has deprodded and clarified some. Thanks, LadyofShalott 16:45, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Help Sought

Hi, I have always found your help very useful and constructive. Sadly this is not true of all members. I wonder if you can advise/help on the Wikimedia side. I appear to have just been blocked due to an unfounded claim of copyright breach on multiple uploads. Especially annoying are those where I travelled a great distance to get the image such as those previously illustrating the article Louise Giblin (sculptor). The images here have been deleted despite my explaining on each image that all photos were taken in the presence of the sculptor and with her express consent for their use on Wikimedia. The deletions also seem to misunderstand the UK rights to access publically owned art, which are quite different than USA (where collections are usually owned by a trust rather than legally the public themselves). In UK any publically owned artwork may even be called up from storage and imaged on demand (as long as the image causes no harm to the exhibit).

Can you offer any advice regarding restoring the lost images and my status as a Wikimedia user?? --Stephencdickson (talk) 16:41, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Well, this is really out of my knowledge reach. It sounds like you are going to have to establish that what you say are the relevant laws, are such. (I'm not accusing you of being wrong; I just don't know.) I'm going to ping a few folks that I think might know more about it than I (and since I know essentially nothing about UK copyright and right of panorama laws, that won't hard). Mandarax, Ironholds, Drmies, (and any TPS...), can any of you help Stephencdickson? LadyofShalott 16:50, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
First, Stephencdickson, you are not now, nor have you ever been blocked on Commons. If you appear to be blocked, you may be caught up in an IP range block, in which case you should see the Commons IP block exemption page.
I don't know much about image copyrights and such. Maybe Materialscientist, who's knowledgeable and is an admin on Commons, can be of assistance. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 02:16, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Could you look at User:Trust Is All You Need, please? He or she has already broken the 3RR rule. I'd like if that could be controlled. Thanks! Urgup-tur (talk) 23:51, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, Both of us have broken the 3RR... If you look at the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union it is clear that Urgup-tur is breaching WP:CONSENSUS by forcing upon controversial change on the article without being willing to discuss it with the community. In any case, I've breached the 3RR rule and I'm sorry, but its impossible not to when users like these are trying to force disruptive changes upon the encyclopaedia (and in practice opposing any form of discussions).. Sorry, but get him to discuss, and this will all come to an end. A block of both of us would not be unreasonable, but would not solve anything at this point, would it? ... and per WP rules, if an edit war breaks out the original version, before the edit war took place, should be reinistated (the one I have been reverting back too). --TIAYN (talk) 23:55, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Help out a librarian

Dear Lady, Velaga Venkatappaiah was apparently a librarian and his grandson (that's what he said during a deletion discussion on Commons) has written the article, but I can't seem to make much sense of the article to figure out what's what. There's a lot of stuff in the article that I find a bit much, especially since Madras Public Libraries Act (pushed by S. R. Ranganathan) and the gold-standard for the library system in India was enacted way before anything mentioned in this article. Could you please take a look and see if it's something to be improved or a matter for AfD? cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:12, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

I'll check it out. LadyofShalott 13:29, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
SpacemanSpiff, I am concerned with the pdf ebooks, but I can't read the relevant information. Are those pdfs legal, or are they illegally reproduced copyright infringements? LadyofShalott 16:16, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
I'd be very wary. The ed had a huge set of copyvios on Commons and doesn't seem to understand that part of policy or even just non-Wikipedia procedure. In this particular case as he's claiming to be an heir or something I'm not sure how to deal with it, but if that weren't the case I'd have just removed it all. The main issue I had was all these library classification rules and stuff like that as well as the Library Association activity -- not sure that contributes to notability or worth coverage. Thanks for looking at it though, I couldn't really figure out any part of it. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 03:25, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not yet convinced one way or another. I'm still working on deciphering it before taking further action. It is gradual. I think I will take out the pdf links unless/until it can be shown they are acceptable. LadyofShalott 19:31, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
And Jac(#s) had already done so. Good. LadyofShalott 19:35, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
I've removed a little bit of stuff, so it might make it easier to figure things out now. I had to remove the google drive links again. —SpacemanSpiff 17:18, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Re: Your article Velaga Venkatappaiah

Thanks for your message, but I'm a bit puzzled. The linked article that I started was most definitely in English - it would be a Biblical miracle were it in any other language, since beyond some schoolboy French and a few words of Welsh. I know no other. The article was started in response to an enquiry on the Humanities Reference Desk by one of the subject's relatives. Alansplodge (talk) 09:19, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Alanslodge, see a couple of sections above (Help out a librarian), I'd alerted the Lady to the article as it had morphed into something incomprehensible. There was some Telugu added by the subject's grandson, but I think the notification automatically goes to the creator. cheers.—SpacemanSpiff 17:21, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
Yes, and I did add to the translation request the fact that most of the article was in English. I don't know if that made it to the notification you were sent. LadyofShalott 17:06, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Afrocandy

Hello, the page Afrocandy does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. She's not notable in anyway whatsoever, have a look for yourself. I put a speedy deletion tag and it was removed by the user Oshwah many times and now he's saying something very strange that a person doesn't have to be proven notable to be on Wikipedia, please see his comments on my talk page. I'm bringing this to the attention of an admin because this page needs to be deleted. The sources quoted are blogs and she has made no impact on the Nigerian music industry, has won no awards and is not known even in Nigeria. Do your own research please and see for yourself, all she has are small mentions. Please advise. Thanks PaulAshford (talk) 23:42, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, PaulAshford, Well, speedy deletion would have to be based on no claim of notability. I have not looked in depth yet, but I think the references listed could be enough to at least constitute such a claim. That does not mean she is notable enough for the article to stay, just that it would be ineligible for speedy deletion on those grounds. My suggestion is that if you still think that she does not satisfy WP:N, that you nominate the article for deletion through AfD. LadyofShalott 21:39, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
Having read through the entire article now, I can say it is definitely not eligible for speedy deletion on the basis of no claim of notability (criterion A7). It says she is a founder and CEO of a company, and that she has had a major film role. Either one of those alone would invalidate such a speedy deletion. LadyofShalott 21:42, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Female seminaries

I still feel that "History of education" is far too general a category for this page. Can we find or create a more specialized place to put it, like say a new cat for "History of women's education"?--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 20:58, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Bellerophon5685. Well, with your comments in mind, I started looking at the History of Education category. It has as a subcat, Gender and education, which is the parent of Women and education... making it a great grand-cat of Category:Female seminaries in the US. So, I just removed it altogether. Noctuam Society

I saw you had a comment about the possible notability of this group on the AfD discussion here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Noctuam Society. Reviewing the comments from one of the SPA's, am I reading too much into this, or are they admittedly creating multiple accounts to prove a point?
