Hey Lady, I just had another look at an article I wrote that I hadn't looked in a while, and browsing through the history I saw just how much of my slack you pick up, and to what extent a lot of the work behind the scenes improves the project. Hi Lady, how are you? I have a question for you: is there a speedy category for redirects? Consider, for instance, Build bear. Can redirects also be AfD'ed? Thanks, as always, for your help, Drmies (talk) 01:43, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Build bear seems a semi-reasonable redirect to me. Trouble maker. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi, I think I'm more-or-less back, but I miss my nieces. Anyway, I don't think there's a category for speedy deletion of redirects (unless they are pure vandalism, which does not obviously apply in this case). WP:RfD would be the place to nominate for deletion (although it's "discussion" rather than simply "deletion"). LadyofShalott 04:40, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi can you translate this from French. Mine wasn't so good.. Only a smallish paragraph. Himalayan 19:55, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Pictures

I'm not well-enough read to understand the literary reference (if that's what it is), but I really enjoy the pictures on your userpage. Does one (or do both) of them depict you? I can't help but wonder about hanging the quilt (?) over the side of the boat into the water. Wowest (talk) 02:24, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

It is indeed a literary reference. "The Lady of Shalott" is a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The paintings are both depictions by John William Waterhouse of that poem. LadyofShalott 00:00, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

. Hmm. I was so hoping that you were the lady in the first picture and that you were heavy into the Renaissance Faire and all that. The face in the second picture looks more ... cartoonish. Has it ever occurred to you that we all seem to be cartoonable? And then it says you're a nerd. (sigh) . Hmm. Turnabout is fair play? . What was I talking about (in 1973) when I said "Patterson Lake Road is paved with good intentions?" Wowest (talk) 01:06, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Biographical content policies?

The Billy Bush page had a LOT of content removed with the claim that it was "unsourced" and "off topic". However, none of it seemed to be content that was recently added, and it seems like the items in question could have just as easily have been marked as "unreferenced" or "unsourced". Is it standard policy to have so much data (including information like the person's birthdate!) just massively removed like that in one shot simply because someone felt that there were items in there that were not referenced properly? Because that seems like such a waste of info :-( Thanks, Shymian (talk) 07:14, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

People can remove large amounts of information if it is unsourced (and should immediately if it is potentially damaging). However in an instance like this, I think tagging it as "citation needed" would have been appropriate. LadyofShalott 17:47, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Would you be able to restore the deleted text somehow so I can add the appropriate refs? There have been other edits made to the page so I'm afraid of just "undo"ing the edit... Also, I noticed that that user seems to have a history of removing items like that instead of marking things with "citation needed". Is removing unsourced birthdays (except as found in imdb) really the norm? Thanks again, Shymian (talk) 22:41, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom

Would one or more of youse please check my assessment of Talk:Same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom as a class B article for the LGBTProject. Attention everyone - calling for input

If you were going to to give presentation that is a beginner's guide to Wikipedia (on use/reading and contributing) what would you make sure to include? I would assume no knowledge of the site. Target audience is patrons of a public library, and so may have widely variable skills.LadyofShalott 15:22, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

I would bring out a big volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica or a stack of those World Book Encyclopedias. People love props! And I think relating an online encyclopedia to the "old" standby gives a good basis for discussion. The big difference is that this one is collaborative, online, open to anyone for editing, and constantly changing/ evolving. So it's an intersting contrast with how the traditional model is written, limitations on size, pages, and coverage, and also the issues raised by non-experts editing and questions of bias. Then you can get into the more technical stuff. Do you know any magic tricks? Good jokes? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:04, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to give one of these talks to faculty here. Bringing an encyclopedia is not a bad idea. I would probably show an article and the different parts (esp. the reference section), and explain basic things such as wikilinking, the idea of collaborative editing, and the talk page. Then I'd move on the the buttons at the top--showing the history (and explain the things you see there, what all is clickable--different revisions, comparisons between edits) and then the edit screen, incl. page preview. In class, I'm usually interested in showing students not necessarily how to work it, but how to use it: first, judge what the article is worth on the basis of mechanics, style, and references; second, judge if the article is vandalism prone or not; third, read the information and the reference section--and get the books from the library... You don't have to tell your patrons, but I have to tell my students: NEVER EVER CITE from Wikipedia, unless the History screen contains only the names Drmies and LadyofShalott! Drmies (talk) 21:20, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
Besides the obvious, I would tell them to read WP:ANI, User talk:Jimbo Wales and most importantly, User talk:ChildofMidnight, every single day. It would be very educational, me thinks. APK because, he says, it's true 06:25, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Newbie treatment

Hey there! As you have been editing an article that User:IHaveaSpoon created, I am telling you that you became a participant in WP:NEWT. The meaning of it is to see how more experienced editors deal with newbies that create new articles. I apologise that I have spent your time. You can discuss about this in Wikipedia:Newbie treatment at CSD/Ilyushka88 where I have explained how things were going with the articles I created.

Again, sorry for the misrepresentation. If there's anything I can do to make up for your lost time, please let me know.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 11:51, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Greetings LoS I thought I might bring this [[2]] to your attention. I sent a minor warning and reverted the obvious vandalism. I saw that you had recently granted the unblock. So as a courtesy I thought maybe you could speak to the user about this silliness before another block occurs. Regards - 4twenty42o (talk) 17:05, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi, really all I did was notify the user of the unblock - the block had already expired or been lifted by someone else when I looked at it. Anyway, it's all moot now, as I see that PhilKnight has indefinitely blocked him for his vandalism and disruption. Thanks for reverting the vandalism, and please let me know if I can do anything for you in the future, 420! LadyofShalott 17:48, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Funny you should mention that, I have been watching a few articles and I am positive that there are several socks going. They are adding copyrighted pictured to obscure rappers and hip hop artists. Now I really don't like getting involved in sockpuppetry cases and all the mess that follows. But at this point it is kind of getting out of hand. This is the history at the Immortal Technique article[[3]]. This is the Atom Tha Immortal article, which was previously deleted under another name, [[4]]. The pic is from Myspace I think. This is an album article. [[5]] The editor keeps adding copyrighted pics and deleting prods. This one is another dubious article that the aditor is active on [[6]]. I have attempted to discuss it with some of the various names and IP's involved but have not received any response of substance. User talk:Gerryh7, User talk:Gh7mysterio, User talk:Mark.reznar are a few of the recent names involved. All of them pop up around the 3rd or 4th revert and do a quick revert. Nearly all of the edits are to obscure rap articles and appear to be pushing some sort of agenda. I am positive that several more accounts are involved, I am not sure which however. I would greatly appreciate your advice. Regards - 4twenty42o (talk) 19:24, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Wow, yeah, there is definitely sockpuppetry going on there. What I suggest is that you open a case at WP:SPI listing all the accounts and IPs you suspect of being the same person and fully describe the behavior with good links. Include everything you showed me here, and any other articles/accounts you know about that look suspicious. Specifically point out the repeated addition by different accounts of the same deleted image. LadyofShalott 19:39, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I have never done this before so could you have a look at this? Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gerryh7 - 4twenty42o (talk) 20:11, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
You've got a good start, but under "evidence submitted by [you]", you need to detail information like you did in the paragraph to me above. In fact, if you just copy and paste what you gave to me above, that would go a long way towards what you need. LadyofShalott 20:17, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Revised. Thank you - 4twenty42o (talk) 20:21, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I guess your Romanian is better than mine...s/he appears to be an associate professor of literature? Doesn't seem notable to me, but we'll see what the translators can hash out. --SquidSK (1MClog) 18:23, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Not so good. :) I'm not saying the person is notable, just that there looked to me to be enough of a claim of notability that I didn't think it met the requirements for A7. I could well end up voting delete in an AfD on it. LadyofShalott 18:26, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
When/if someone translates it, can it be nominated for speedy again, or is that out since I already tagged it once? --SquidSK (1MClog) 18:29, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't see anything at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion that says it can't have a speedy tag placed a second time (esp. under circumstances like this). However, it might be better form to go with prod or AfD. LadyofShalott 18:35, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand - it's been translated. LadyofShalott 18:39, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

  • I would be grateful if you could have a look at my comment. Not surprisingly, InkHeart doesn't like what I've put there - I think because I didn't say "it should be reverted to the older version".
However, I would appreciate an involved editor (and a sysop at that!) to have a look - was it the kind of thing that should be in a RfC? Is there anything I could have done to make it better/more useful.
I'm asking you, as you are the only other editor who I know is aware of this issue, but who is not involved! I want to continue to learn how to be a better editor, including the "dispute resolution" area of things, which I do not have experience of yet!

Project Midnight

This notice is to inform you that I am actually a robot programmed to evaluate human capabilities for cooperation. I have been testing and evaluating the responses and interactions involved in the article building process of this community's encyclopedia building project for research purposes. I apologize for this deception, but the SHmorkIan beings deemed this a worthwhile approach to assessing whether your planet is suitable for colonization. Feedback will be provided to you in coming decades. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy your world's Thanksgiving holiday. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:12, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Hah! Well, even though I presume extraterrestrial robots don't celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you had a good one as well anyway. LadyofShalott 19:25, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
(Excuse my commenting: for some reason LadyofShalott is on my watchlist, perhaps because I have an affinity for the painting, anyway) ... I can confirm that ChildofMidnight displays otherworldly capacity/skill in "interactions" — and I am therefore not surprised by this revelation, but surely delighted (unknown implications of colonization notwithstanding). ^^ Happy holidays! It certainly sounds likely that they are related. I do not know enough, and it's not obvious enough for me to clonclude these two sets of beings are the same thing though. I'm not saying they aren't either. I wonder if it is a situation sort of like with Zeus and Jupiter (or take your pick of Greek deity and Roman counterpart) where they are "the same", but there's enough differentiation that they merit separate articles. Deletion of part of your post

I'm sorry about the deletion of part of your post; it seems that was a fluke in the software. See User talk:SebastianHelm#Inappropriate deleton of content from ongoing AFD discussion for details. — Sebastian 21:21, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Ah, OK, thanks for the message. I admit I was offended (as you can tell from my edit summary). I'm glad to know it was not deliberate on your part. I guess weirdness happens. LadyofShalott 21:24, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Excuse my adding a comment (had this page on my watchlist) ... About a week ago or so, I saw someone removing two previous edits when they saved their comment to a talk page. It infuriated two people (one was me), but it appears they were not given an "edit conflict" warning (or other indication of problem). The AfD instance may not be the same issue ... but there there may be some kind of intermittent technical glitch that has crept into the code. (I don't know who to talk to about this, but perhaps you do.) Proofreader77 (talk) 21:42, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
This is a public page on a wiki - feel free to jump in anytime, Proofreader. As for who to talk to, I suggest taking it to the technical village pump. This is not a good thing, especially if similar things are happening on a regular basis. LadyofShalott 21:46, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks. I've done 5,000 reverts of vandalism, but only now getting my bearings on where things are discussed within Wikipedia (rather than just user and article talk). I'll raise the issue at WP:VPT (now that I know about it :-). Cheers. Proofreader77 (talk)
Follow up: The technical answer is ... Happens from time to time ... since time immemorial. (lol) So we must simply remember that software is not as perfect as we come to believe it is — and so when our fellow editors appear to be doing something no sensible person would do, let us pause and consider that they may not have. :-) Which I think is already the consensus here. Cheers. Proofreader77 (talk) 07:43, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Also, since I haven't said so directly yet, I do apologize for jumping to the worst conclusion before. LadyofShalott 07:47, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Don't mention it! Even if you had offended me, there would be no more need for an apology. Your spontaneous "observations" edit proved that you not only regretted it, but sincerely decided to learn from it. What more could an apology give me? — Sebastian 08:36, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

I scooped you

Sorry! As you can see from my user page, I'm interested in that sort of thing regardless of the bacon contest. In fact, if they'll allow it, how's about we "credit" you with the article and the DYK? I'm also working on Guinea Hog and Hereford (pig breed) articles, but if you want to take one of those or any other, let me know and I'll be hands off until you move it into mainspace. Steven Walling 00:32, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, it may be sort of pointless, but I did wonder about a history merge of my sandbox with the article. You are generous to offer the credit for the bacon contest and DYK. You certainly deserve the DYK credit - your article is better than mine was shaping into anyway. Otherwise, I was frustrated at first at what felt like wasted effort, but I'm over it now, and I enjoyed learning about the Ossabaw Island Hog. When I looked at the list of pig breeds, that redlink caught my eye because of Ossabaw Island, and then it had all that fascinating history. It was just my bad luck that we went for it at the same time. I'll stay away from the Guinea Hog and Hereford articles, and will let you know if (when) I decide to tackle another pig breed. Of course, collaboration makes me happy, and if you are ever interested in working together on an article, I'd be glad to do so. :) LadyofShalott 06:17, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

I see you declined my speedy request for the article. If I'm honest I thought twice before tagging it. However, I've done some more research. I ran a search for "flag twirling" within "olympic.org" (the IOC's official website) and there is nothing to suggest that flag twirling is an olympic sport. Whether there's a credible claim of notability after that, I shall leave to your capable judgement. Kind regards, HJMitchell You rang? 02:37, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi LoS - after your (excellent) suggestion at WP:WSS/D, I've taken Category:Bacon stubs to WP:SFD for renaming/rescoping to Category:Pork stubs. Please feel free to add any comments there. Grutness...wha? 04:49, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Oh good, I'm glad that was useful. I've commented at SFD. Thanks for letting me know! LadyofShalott 05:05, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Likely outcome and fair adjustments to points

Per the likely outcome being essentially what you've said at SFD (I support your comment, as Grutness said "an excellent idea") "upmerging bacon-stubs to pork-stubs along with keeping the bacon-stub" and creating "also a pork-stub template and have them both point to Category:Pork stubs for now" the WikiCup points will be adjusted as so:

Sky Attacker -3 (36) LadyOfShalott +5 (33)

To be clear on what is going on, I am having a portion of my points gained from the bacon stub template pending "an option of Category:Bacon stubs later if there are enough to populate it" and am awarding you for your ideas put forward to make the adjustments as you've stated as a "for now" solution. When the pork stub template is both made and reported on the reporting page you will get an additional 3 points on top of these 5 points meaning a total of 8 points (equal to the amount I was awarded). --Sky Attacker the legend reborn... 22:46, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good, SA. I'm not all that fussed about the points, and I trust you to be fair with them anyway. LadyofShalott 18:05, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Lady, I think I finally got Harris' bibliography up-to-date. I thought you might want to check it. To my knowledge it is uber up-to-date. Now, I did choose to add a tab for books she either edited or co-edited and I know that's somewhat repetitive but I thought necessary as a way to let people know they are anthologies with other writers. Also, she has a book coming out that it seems she will edit alone and that had to go somewhere since I don't know if it qwill have any of her stories in it or not. For now, I think it's very thorough, but I'd like it if you'd let me know what you think. Thanks! -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed (talk) 18:02, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll take a look. LadyofShalott 18:04, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Looks good. I wonder if it's time to break the bibliography out into its own page, Bibiliography of Charlaine Harris. LadyofShalott 18:09, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
It is kind of long, but is that common practice? It seems to me that making the bibliography a different page would only be an annoyance. I thought that was more common for discographies... -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed (talk) 19:05, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Pretty common, but I'm not sure at what length it typically happens. For one example, see Neil Gaiman and Neil Gaiman bibliography; for some others, see Category:Bibliographies by author. LadyofShalott 19:32, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

You've now been chosen to receive the next higher up award, the Orange Star. A record of this award will always be kept at User:Meaghan/Shining Stars. Enjoy! Meaghan - Merry Christmas! - 20:11, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

You could also receive the next higher up award, the Yellow Star!

I very much appreciate it! Thanks, Meaghan! LadyofShalott 20:12, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I said a rude word when I pressed "send" just now on a cleanup of this article and got "Edit conflict"; but you have done a better job than I did - thanks! JohnCD (talk) 20:42, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the edit conflict, but I'm glad you didn't lose a lot of work better than what I'd done! :) LadyofShalott 20:45, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas

Thank you! May you have a wonderful Christmas as well, Meaghan! :) LadyofShalott 02:03, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Season's greetings

Merry Christmas, dear Lady! Let me guess--you're going to find books in your stocking. May they all be hardback, illustrated, and loaded with proper academic apparatus. All the best, Drmies (talk) 18:16, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Drmies - I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas yourself! Did SC bring your little girl one of those bikes? LadyofShalott 14:02, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

In the end, the prod was contested, so I brought the page to AfD here. -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 06:20, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I've commented there. LadyofShalott 14:01, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

Question in User talk:Hanay,

Hi, I would appreciate if you will answer Tomer question in User talk:Hanay, Thanks Hanay (talk) 10:31, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Abuse of power by another editor

On Aquatic ape hypothesis, Kwamikagami has abused his administrator abilities in order to perpetuate his edit war with me, in spite of good faith efforts on my part on the talk page to resolve the situation. Mokele (talk) 01:11, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Ali Fingerz Esbai

Thanks for looking at it. The article is a repost of a previously deleted article. Would it be appropriate to tag it now with Speedy delete - repost? Catfish Jim and the soapdish (talk) 15:57, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Ah, yes, if you had used that tag to start with, I'd have gone ahead and deleted it. As it is, I just did so on that basis. Thanks for letting me know it was a recreation. LadyofShalott 16:02, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
I didn't notice it until I saw his user page after I'd already tagged the article with 'speedy delete - person' three times (twice after the editor deleted the tag). Catfish Jim and the soapdish (talk) 16:09, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you.

for your help on the, ABB Power Plant Shooting (2010). Yes, this is recent breaking news out of Missouri. thanks for the category! :) --KangoJangothe3rd (talk) 15:59, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

No problem. :) LadyofShalott 16:10, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Just a correction

It wasn't my speedy deletion, it was User:Blanchardb who nominated it. I was just putting it back up after User:Someshkirar took it down. --Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 16:12, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

I sent the article to AfD here. The organization of which he is the CEO is not notable.
Now another problem surfaced at the AfD. Someone requested that the article be salted. Problem is, you moved it before it got nominated, and the creator (currently blocked for removing the AfD tag) shows that he fully intends to recreate the article after it gets deleted. So, do we salt all possible capitalizations of this name? -- Blanchardb -MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 16:50, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I have no objection to multiple saltings if the consensus is to delete. I am not familiar enough with the notability/ lack thereof to make an intelligent comment at the AfD. I'll try to do so later when I have more time to check for possible notability if any. If I need to be reminded though, feel free to ping me with the list of saltings that need doing, and I can help with that if the closing admin does not cover it. Aquatic ape hypothesis page protection

Hi,

Based on how the discussion ended here, I think you could safely remove page protection. Thanks, WLU (t) (c) Wikipedia's rules:simple/complex 00:07, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi LadyofShalott. You declined a speedy delete on Bapsy Jain mentioning it's not spam. I could not find any reliable secondary sources that mention the details of Bapsy Jain. Whenever it's convenient, do please leave a note on my talk page on the reasons you found the BLP not mere advertising. Thanks ▒ Wirεłεşş ▒ Fidεłitұ ▒ Ćłâşş ▒ Θnε ▒ ―Œ ♣Łεâvε Ξ мεşşâgε♣ 08:18, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Also, just for reference, the article Bapsy Jain had been deleted earlier. It was readded back without any changes. Therefore, another speedy deletion notice was put up. The creator (who's been subsequently blocked) was informed here. Do please leave your reply on my talk. Thanks ▒ Wirεłεşş ▒ Fidεłitұ ▒ Ćłâşş ▒ Θnε ▒ ―Œ ♣Łεâvε Ξ мεşşâgε♣ 08:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

WP:MRR: many thanks and suggestion

Hi. First and foremost, many thanks indeed for volunteering to help out with the educational assignment Magical Realism Reconsidered. As always with such projects, it is of course the responsibility of the students to take the lead in editing the chosen articles, and above all to do the research and contribute reliable sources. But any help, however small, that established Wikipedians can provide, perhaps above all in guiding new users unfamiliar with the technicalities and protocols of the encyclopedia, as well (at a later stage) with copy-editing suggestions and the MOS, is very much appreciated. Please, however, feel no compunction to go above and beyond what I know is your usual generosity on the site. The project's success or failure must depend in the last analysis on the effort that the students put in. But I know that they will be extremely grateful for anything you are able to do, and indeed it is ideally part of the project that they also learn to work with people such as yourself: they are contributing to a public site, and their ability to negotiate with other editors and deal with feedback is an integral part of the exercise.

My only suggestion is that, in line with the discussion here, you might want to indicate on the project page an article or articles that you are particularly interested in watching and helping with. Again, you should not feel you have to do this; we are pleased for you to aid the project in any way that you see fit. But it does help if a particular group working on a specific article feel that they have an experienced editor or two to whom they can turn in the first instance.

Again, many thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 00:02, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

some projects

appear dead but they do have the occasional editor look at the talk page - thanks for your re-affirming the need for a change of name from Librarians to Library and Librarians - it has to happen as it is too restrictive in its current name and scope - and that damned painting on your user page - it knocks me out every time i see a good reproduction :| - cheers SatuSuro 06:39, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
