A tag has been placed on User:Kristen sald, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Contested deletion

[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because I'm in the process of requesting factual edits to a client page and have provided the submitted information and links in the interest of full disclosure and to avoid all COIs. If deemed appropriate, I would be happy to remove backlinks to my own social platforms; however, I believe they provide a more complete disclosure of my professional status. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristen sald (talkcontribs) 15:23, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Generally direct links to social media anywhere on Wikipedia are frowned upon. I believe the speedy deletion tag was hasty, and I think if you remove the links it'll be fine. Your userpage should definitely disclose your COI, however. Pishcal 20:35, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
To the reviewing admins: I concur with the user's remarks. After removing the external links, this remains a legitimate COI declaration. --Drm310 (talk) 20:34, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree, clear promotion trying to advertise themselves and sell their services. Joseph2302 (talk) 20:36, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As reviewing admin, I think this is marginal, but I am prepared to give a new user the benefit of the doubt. Kristen sald, welcome to Wikipedia. I have some advice to give, but it will have to wait until I have done the washing-up. JohnCD (talk) 20:53, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the immediate feedback, all! Appreciate it. I have made some revisions to my user page, based on your suggestions, and believe it to be fully disclosing and non-promotional. Any further input is of course welcomed. Kristen sald (talk) 21:36, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

[edit]

Thank you, that's much better. The reason new user pages are looked at with some suspicion is that Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, and that is all it is; but we are not very good at explaining that to the world, and so a lot of people come here who think it is another social-networking site: "I need a social-media presence: Facebook tick, Twitter tick, LinkedIn tick, Wikipedia... " Wikipedia user pages are intended to be mainly about the user as a Wikipedia contributor, see WP:User pages and WP:NOTWEBHOST.

The next thing I need to say is: your user page very properly declares your affiliation; it also says that you work on media and social campaigns. Please understand that Wikipedia is not for any kind of promotion or campaigning, and is extremely resistant to any attempts to use it that way. If you have come here with any idea in your mind of using Wikipedia in your campaigns, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and the Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. In brief, you should not edit directly on any subject where you have a COI - e.g. your employer, their clients or their competitors - but may make suggestions on article talk pages, or submit draft articles, for uninvolved users to consider.

After that rather unwelcoming greeting, welcome again! The links at the top of the page will tell you more about Wikipedia and how you can contribute. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:51, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the informative links and articles, JohnCD! Really appreciate the helpful hints, and look forward to participating. Kristen sald (talk) 19:27, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
