Cite Date Errors

It's become apparent that I've been making cite date errors on all the PDFs I've cited on Santa Margherita Ligure and you've been correcting them. First of all thank you and second, I need to know what you are doing so I can in future (as I plan to continue work on the article now) do it myself and save you the hassle.N1TH Music (talk) 10:44, 7 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I just pick it up from Category:CS1 errors: dates which is one of the hidden categories. You can enable these on articles in your preferences, under Appearances tab, under "Advanced options" check "Show hidden categories". There is also a red message shown in the References section against the ones that have an error. There is a limited set of date formats that have been agreed on for use in articles, these are given in Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers. If you pick one of them you should be OK. Hope this helps. Keith D (talk) 11:04, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Yes thanks very much is should help, also sorry I didn't reply earlier but I expected you to reply on my talk page that's what I do usually. And also something else has gone wrong on the Article of Santa Margherita. In the last couple of days the Comune of Santa Margherita changed the layout of their website therefore almost all 150 out of 230 references on that page which link to the comune's website now no longer work. How can I fix that? Also how and when will the article'S place on the quality scale be changed. It obviously isn't start class anymore.N1TH Music (talk) 14:14, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@N1TH Music: Hello, I tend to keep discussions in one place, may be I should have pinged you to let you know I had responded. If the web site has just changed a part of the address and it is the same change to every link then you can just do a replace, otherwise each one will need changing individually. A pain in the neck! If it is the former, and a number of articles use it, you could consider creating a template to future proof it in case it happens again then you only have to change it in the one place.
Assessments are done by the WikiProjects on the talk page of the article. You can request a reassessment at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Italy/Assessment, but it does not look to be very active as July 2021 was last request. Keith D (talk) 16:54, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
Ok thanks for helping but I'm not really sure how to make a template for those and I don't think it's the same change for every link, for example all the 80-90 ordnances had their own page where you could download the pdf now I don't see how I could redo that in one go as they've reformatted everything. Also about the wikiprojects you've seen the article it definitely has more detail now, it's almost at the point wherre I think I need to split it is there no way to speed up assesment like there is with deletion? N1TH Music (talk) 18:43, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@N1TH Music: You could try removing the existing assessment to prompt the project to have a new look at the article. Keith D (talk) 17:49, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
@Keith D Oh, I just put a message on Samnites talk page like the Wikipedia:WikiProject Italy/Assessment page said to do, at least I think it did, let me know if I'm wrong but thanks for helping regardless 18:53, 12 April 2022 (UTC) N1TH Music (talk) 17:53, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

  • Access to Special:RevisionDelete has been expanded to include users who have the deletelogentry and deletedhistory rights. This means that those in the Researcher user group and Checkusers who are not administrators can now access Special:RevisionDelete. The users able to view the special page after this change are the 3 users in the Researcher group, as there are currently no checkusers who are not already administrators. (T301928)
  • When viewing deleted revisions or diffs on Special:Undelete a back link to the undelete page for the associated page is now present. (T284114)

Hello

Hello, I am the one who edits some articles of the war of a thousand days, since I am not an expert in editing, I screwed up and now the collage of the page "war of a thousand days" is going to be deleted by an author, even if I managed to put them on most of authors I don't know what else to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hailcolombia2009 (talkcontribs) 23:32, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I cannot understand your message. I assume that it relates to article Thousand Days' War but cannot see the problem. Keith D (talk) 23:41, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
I'll try to do it right.
1. the collage that I made the one that is on the page because I did not give credits to the original authors of the photographs, so it will be deleted on April 14 so I will try to reupload it but with the original authors or well I will try now is to screw it up
2. in this wiki there is a problem and it is simple the ecuadorian colombo wars were 2 I already fixed that giving a better context on the page "ecuadorian colombo war" so better forget about the collage Hailcolombia2009 (talk) 23:56, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
The collage will need a source for each of the images in it, if they are all on Commons then you can copy the details from the individual images onto the collage page. On the second point, it could be a page split is required to cover the two wars. If you think that is required you can suggest it on the talk page. Keith D (talk) 00:09, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
thanks there are only 2 images that are by the user
Fefogómez in authors I managed to find and put the majority although I am not very good at this from wikipedia Hailcolombia2009 (talk) 00:18, 9 April 2022 (UTC)
another thing edit the page List of wars involving Colombia about conflicts that were missing some are on the wiki in Spanish I will be editing about the conflict of the supreme and with the collage because it will be eliminated anyway thanks for your attention take care Hailcolombia2009 (talk) 00:49, 9 April 2022 (UTC)

The Wayback Machine

As you may or nay not remember the Comune of Santa Margherita Ligure changed their website making more than 100 references obsolete but I believe I've found many of the old references which I couldn't find on the new website on the wayback machine. And I was wondering fi that's considored a reliable enough source to replace the existing references with. Also I was hoping I could ask for help going about splitting an article aswell. Thanks, N1TH Music (talk) 17:23, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

@N1TH Music: Hello, I cannot see a problem with using the wayback machine for the references, but I would put it in the |archiveurl= field rather than the |url= field, which can be filled in from the archive version. Keith D (talk) 23:57, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Ref number 26 is all over the place - I cannot even get correct title of book. Publication year is 1893 yet there are member ships for 1899 - is that "pending" or "updates" of some kind? Please leave in quotes and thanks again from T. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 49.198.41.28 (talk) 12:53, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Cannot answer that one as publication date appears to predate entries in the list. May be the actual list was added at a later date? Keith D (talk) 19:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)

Not quite Yorkshire, in fact Scotland !- is that ok? Please check many new refs Thanks again from. T

I think we were editing this page at the same time today: Sustainable Development Goal 13. I might have by mistake undone some of your edits while trying to resolve an edit conflict. Sorry about that. Hope it's easy to re-do those edits from your end? EMsmile (talk) 09:57, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

@EMsmile: thanks for letting me know. I have reapplied changes, it was by AWB it was easy. Keith D (talk) 10:06, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Great. One day I must learn how WP:AWB works. So far it's a mystery to me. What kind of edits do you use it for mainly? EMsmile (talk) 08:53, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
@EMsmile: I use it for making repetitive edits to a number of articles, mostly correcting invalid dates from "2022-01" to "January 2022" format or removing leading zeros from dates. Keith D (talk) 10:16, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

I hope I am not annoying you. Are you able to look at my request regarding St Leonards School - above - and St Anne's College, Oxford please?

Also ref number 52.on this page should have an IBSN as it is a book. Thanks again. From Ted

Invalid search and replace in AWB

I didn't see the template= parameter had not been removed right away from AWB. In fact, it was too late to try to fix in the evening; I planned to fix them in the morning. So, thank you for fixing those. Thankfully, there weren't that many of them out of the articles I changed the access-date and archive-url on. I was using the template= parameter on my own drafts and such. For example, the Visual Editor leaves it behind when you remove the en from the Cite generator. Thanks again. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:05, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

It just occurred to me that if I don't remove the "en" from the citation when I am generating it with the Visual Editor, I can search instead on "langugage-=en". This would ensure I never had "language=" in AWB again. Just a thought. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:11, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Hello, I spotted the problem as it caused lots of new cite date errors. On a side note you should not be using AWB for these edits as they are just cosmetic and against the rules for AWB edits. Keith D (talk) 19:00, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Assuming you mean the access-date and archive-url edits, I guess it's okay for bots to do it though. I will stop. The template one is supposed to be relegated to my drafts, so will be more careful in future. Appreciate it much. dawnleelynn(talk) 19:26, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for your edits on research station wiki and enquiries

Hi there! I saw you fixed up some of the citations to the research station article I was editing yesterday. I wanted to say thank you for fixing it up as I was wondering at the time what I was doing wrong, since I saw there was an error message. I was wondering if you had any tips on how to fix up the citations?

I also note from your user page that you are a very experienced editor. I am a university student who has been assigned to working on the research station article as part of my studies. I'm hoping to be able to increase the status of this Wikipedia page to a B-class. If you have any tips, recommendations and feedback as I continue to work on the page, please feel free to let me know as it would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards, Bubbleteafiend (talk) 00:18, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

@Bubbleteafiend:, Hello, the problem is with the citation creation tools and need adjusting by hand. Dates using just month and year like "2009-05" need changing to "May 2009" format to clear the error message. Looks like I did not fix all of the dates as I was using AWB which does not fix all of the dates. MOS gives acceptable date formats, basically there are only 3 formats (plus 2 with the shortened month), yyyy-mm-dd, dd mmm yyyy and mmm dd, yyyy. In the last 2 the month is spelled out and the day does not have a leading zero. Pesonally I try an aviod the all number format as it can be ambiguous.
On the content a quick look I would look at the lead paragraph as that is supposed to be just a summary of the rest of the article. Thus it should not have details that are not mentioned elsewhere and usually has no references, as they would be in the body of article where that point is mentioned. Keith D (talk) 10:51, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Perfect thankyou! I'll go through and fix up the references and lead in the next few days. Bubbleteafiend (talk) 13:47, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Just an update on the page, I have gone through and fixed up the rest of the references. I am planning to add some more information to the page so I will fix up the lead to accurately reflect the added information at the end.Bubbleteafiend (talk) 09:16, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
Hi there, I've just reworked the lead section of the research station article and added some images. If you have a moment, I would really appreciate any feedback on the edits. Cheers ---- Bubbleteafiend (talk) 09:53, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

oops

Sorry about this. I meant to restore back to another edit because the source you ultimately corrected and added by yet another badly done campaign/contest editor is an unreliable RSS feed. PRAXIDICAE💕 16:18, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi Keith D,

Just wondering what references I broke in the edits you reverted? I thought I checked them all for style and functionality before putting them in?

--Lewis Cawte (Talk) 16:16, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, most of the short references were showing red errors of the form "sfn error: no target: CITEREFRichardson2007". Also why change the established form of referencing on the article to a more complicated form where you have to understand wikidata? Keith D (talk) 16:28, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
