John Dawson-Damer moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, John Dawson-Damer, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Draft with 1 unquoted sentence is deleted under usage of copyrighted work (Draft:John Dawson-Damer)
[edit]Hey, @Justlettersandnumbers! I had a talk with KSFT at the Kiwi IRC regarding this issue and he/she tried to contact an admin. He/she had told me that "it looks like one sentence was copied and not marked as a quote, but it doesn't look like a copyright violation to either of us (KSFT and Admin)". I just wanna access my article so that I can fix it. Thanks in advance Robot Kerl (talk • contribs) 04:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- No, Robot Kerl, the copying was more extensive than that. Much of it was from here, including the sentence "John Dawson-Damer owned one of the world’s best private collection of Lotus racing cars" (note the missing "s" of "collections", as in the source). The sentence "After the crash it was discovered Mr Dawson-Damer's helmet had also not been MSA approved but this was not a contributing factor in the accident or the outcome" is verbatim from here.
- If you like, I can email you the content of the page, but it can't be added back to Wikipedia without substantial changes – everything you write here must (with a very few exceptions) be entirely in your own words. Or, if you prefer, I can restore the page without the running text. Let me know? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:38, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Seems fair enough, Justlettersandnumbers. It would be nice of you if you can put the original draft in my Sandbox. Really sorry to bother you! Robot Kerl (talk • contribs) 04:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
- Robot Kerl, I can't do that – we don't restore copyright violations. I've partially restored the page at Draft:John Dawson-Damer. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Should we change the Category from 1 to 4?
[edit]I got some reliable source form CBS and others that Laura is a Category 4 Hurricane but why isn't it changed in the infobox yet even though the contributors mentioned it in the body. Is there a reason? Should we change it? Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 15:10, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Kartsriv: That infobox shows the current storm status. It was a Category 4 hurricane but isn't anymore.--Jasper Deng (talk) 15:21, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Jasper Deng: What about this Article? Is the current data outdated? Thanks Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 15:29, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Kartsriv: It hit as a cat 4, but has since weakened. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 16:39, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Destroyeraa: But the articles I mentioned are posted hardly minutes ago... Maybe be the Hurricane has regained its strength!? Not an expert when it comes to geographical stuff rather just a nice guy trying to provide accurate information to people. Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs)
- @Kartsriv: For Wikipedia's purposes, the data for the intensity of the hurricane/tropical cyclone always comes from the NHC or other such RSMC/TCWC, not news articles which maybe outdated or talking in the past tense when being published. At the moment, NHC is saying that Laura has weakened from a Category 4 at its peak intensity into a tropical storm and is forecasting it to continue weakening - as a result, there is practically no chance of Laura regaining its strength as a Category 4 hurricane. Hope this helps. :) Jason Rees (talk) 17:10, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Jason Rees: Thank you for clarifying this. I actually learned something today. Here after will follow the NHC for similar events. Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs)

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Robot Kerl, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Amphid salts have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 11:03, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Really nice of you for pointing it out, Diannaa! I will look forward to put some quality work into creating article here onward. Thanks a lot, Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs)
Speedy deletion nomination of FitzGerald–Lorentz transformation
[edit]Hello, Kartsriv,
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Govvy, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged FitzGerald–Lorentz transformation for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.
For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Govvy}}
. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~
. Thanks!

Hey, Govvy! I was actually planning on working regarding FitzGerald–Lorentz transformation but at last I changed my mind and started working on Lorentz transformation. I actually went to discard my page creation but due to my crazy good attention on doing stuff, I some how clicked on the blue save button. Totally my bad and this won't happen again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs)

[edit]Hello. In a recent edit to the page Mathematics, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you.
If you think an article is inconsistent and needs to be corrected, first look at its talk page to see if a preferred variety is specified. If not, then carefully examine the article to determine which variety is prevalent. — Anita5192 (talk) 16:40, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Women in Red
[edit]Hi there, Kartsriv, and welcome to Women in Red. It's good to see you are interested in improving the way women are presented on Wikipedia. After a minor research, I have found out that majority of the data is either a hoax or not cited. Contributions to Republican Party
[edit]Hi - I noticed that edits regarding McPhee's financial contributions to the republican party are being undone. They were properly cited and seemed to be in the proper section (personal life). The information seems relevant - when someone mentioned that she was a Republican, wikipedia was the first place I looked to verify the information and found that it wasn't there. I've added the information back in. PupGoomba (talk) 19:17, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- @PupGoomba: Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, PupGoomba! It has been noticed that there is a certain disagreement between users regarding her contributions to the republican party which led to persistent vandalism but as you mentioned the citation is still relevant and reliable hence will not be removing the the phrase. To prevent such vandalism, LuK3 has added a persistent vandalism protection to the page which allows only autoconfirmed or confirmed users to edit until 2nd of October, 2020 which is till the expiry of the protection. Once the protection expires, permissions would revert back to normal. If any further vandalism is detected then the protection would be extended. Apollo 12 was the sixth crewed flight in the United States Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. It was launched on November 14, 1969, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, four months after Apollo 11. Commander Charles "Pete" Conrad and Apollo Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Expanding and correction
[edit]Hi, Kartsriv
I am Conner Richell. Thank you for replying to my question. Can I ask another question?
Why does (mostly) everyone in Wikipedia actually cold and neutral? Is it because
I'm new, or because I immediately tried to create a Draft?
Thank you for your help,
Theobliviaf (talk) 14:01, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
@Theobliviaf: Hey, Conner! You can call me Karthik. I totally understand what you're saying. I too was new to Wikipedia like 5 years back. To be honest, this is my 4th account which I created. Wikipedia has contributed to my life significantly and I always wanted to give back the help I received. So, I decided to become an editor. I initially did around 50 edits in my first account until it got blocked. What actually happened was I never really understood the syntax of Wiki markup then which caused my edits to mess up the formatting of the pages. 5 years back, I never really was aware of the visual editor so you can imagine how it went. The admins blocked me claiming the I was a vandal and I didn't come to improve the encyclopedia. I indeed made mistakes but it felt bad when people judge you like that. In April 2015, the Visual Editor was made as default so I ended up creating my second account but you know what happened? My entire IP was blocked from creating an account. Which made me even sad. So, what I did instead was connect to my mobile hotspot and created a new account. I was successful in creating it only to get it blocked by connecting to my wifi network again. Still didn't give up! Took my girlfriend's phone and made sure not to connect to my house network again. Voila! But I was already exhausted and really had no clue how to be a good editor in Wikipedia. I made few more controversial edits and the admin started kicking my a**. It kinda sucked and I formed this hatred towards all admins. This was all gonna change when I got a bot message in my talk page regarding Teahouse (The place where we met). I tried explaining my issue and they told me a similar answer to what I told you. This is when I started making constructive edits and started getting barnstars from other editors. All of a sudden, The admins seemed too nice to me. I now understood why Wikipedia felt cold and neutral. It's me! I was being an idiot. The Admins have decades of experience editing Wikipedia and they would have seen thousands of guys like me. They have to be cold and neutral because they have a huge responsibility. They are safe guarding the biggest encyclopedia in the world. It's gotta be perfect but it isn't. The admins are doing their best to bringing the encyclopedic content close to perfection. The Encyclopedia Britannica which is the largest written encyclopedia is almost perfect because it's been purified for centuries and the content hasn't increased as dramatically as in Wikipedia that is because Wikipedia is evolving which resulted it in being 2,796.5 times the size of Encyclopedia Britannica. This is achieved by giving editorial access to everyone in the world. Not everyone are good and not everyone are bad. To keep the bad guys away, the admins have to be cold and neutral. Once, you have proved them that you're here to improve then they would do anything to help you. Stuff I think you should know.
1. Admin are not really cold anymore when you proved them that you're a good samaritan. If they bark at you then don't hesitate to ask why cause they are 99.9999% of the time correct.
Example: This is Liz, an Admin who rejected my CSD (process of deleting an article). I simply went and asked her why and she was nice enough to explain things to me.
2. You got the power to change the world's largest encyclopedia. While doing that, you can easily ruin your credibility. Example: This is Destroyeraa, a nice guy obsessed with weather. He has done 8k+ edit and he got blocked due to controversial reason which I refuse to comment.
3. Personal Opinion: Some admins forgot how once they were noobs. Some admins (Not mentioning anyone specific) are quite rude and unforgiving when noob editors such as ourselves make a mistake. Not all of them and an obvious example would be the hosts of TeaHouse who are super nice. (Recent help I received from sweet TeaHouse hosts). So, here I am trying to be a friend. A pal who would come when you need any help whatsoever. A person who would support when admins have misunderstands you. A person who can be just a buddy to simply have a chat. I want to make Wikipedia a bit more human and forgiving. It is not a cold or neutral place. It's a beautiful place filled with nice people. New editors experience the bad side of the pedia and I wanna stand by their side and encourage them.
As I said before, you just got yourself a friend who's not cold rather a charming guy I suppose.
Make yourself home - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 17:45, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Thank you, Karthik. I understand my mistake. They have a huge responsibility, and therefore act cold neutral, and I shouldn't judge them for that. Thank you for explaining this to me. I really like the fact that you want to be my friend. You're really warm and encouraging that it was hard to miss your point. Your friend, Conner Theobliviaf (talk) 16:03, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Hey, I just noticed. It's urgent. Dangled6 just vandalized Etzedek24's user page Theobliviaf (talk) 16:09, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Recovered User Page of User:Etzedek24
[edit]@Theobliviaf: Hey, Conner! I confirmed that User:Dangled6 has been vandalizing User:Etzedek24's user page so I did the following.
1. Fixing the vandalism: I reverted all the stuff which the vandal did. You can check his user page now. For further reference you can see the edit I've made.
2. Warning the vandal: I have issued a warning to the vandal. You can see that from clicking here.
3. Reporting the vandal to the administrators: I have reported the vandal to the admins. You can see the request and response over here. I quoted the following Revision IDs: 991925045 and 982880765.
You did a great job! The admins should block him soon. If you have any questions the feel free to ping me back - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 16:52, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Update: User:Dangled6 has been blocked by admin Widr. You can see the vandal's talk page confirming the former.
- Thanks for catching this, folks. Sure was interesting to wake up to. This is definitely the farthest someone's gone in a Wikibeef, they even tried to hack my account. Etzedek24 (I'll talk at ya) (Check my track record) 17:13, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Etzedek24: It's alrighty, mate! You should indeed thank Theobliviaf for catching the vandal. Try keeping long password as suggested in this comic. Makes it close to impossible for hackers to break in. Just my 2 cents - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 17:26, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Ok. I'm glad that everything is ok. Give Etzedek24 my regards. Theobliviaf (talk) 09:25, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Theobliviaf: Sure, dude! I already did. If you have any emergency like this one then you can ping me on Discord (KartSriv#0851) if you have an account - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 10:20, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
Dude, are you OK? My user page just got "blocked, and vandalized by Cthonastur, whom, by the comments, I'm assuming is Dangled6. I didn't realize Wikipedia had a serious Joker vandal problem. The articles and users get attacked everyday?
- With best regards,
- Conner Richell
- @Theobliviaf: Sorry for the late reply, matey! I was studying. Admins have access to IP addresses of users and they have confirmed that Cthonastur is a sockpuppet of Dangled6. You can find more about the investigation here. They have blocked him indefinitely and have blocked his IP for 2 weeks initially for Etzedek24's user page vandalism and have added another 2 weeks for the recent incident. I hope you understood why Admins tend to be a bit cold and neutral. It's to prevent people like him from messing up our encyclopedia. I have encountered a handful of people like him but what I understood after years of being here was to realize even they are humans. We should try to warn them in a peaceful and explanatory way. They reason I had to go hard on Dangled6 was he crossed the limits but what I failed to realize was I fueled his Anger. So much that he put effort into creating another account to vandalize your page. Another thing I want to point out was I mentioned you while reporting to admins for the sole reason for you to get the credit and I am gonna assume that the vandal would have caught your username from there. I never knew it would go this wrong. I want to apologize for that. If at all he's gonna vandalize again then it's gonna be my account I guess. Your Friend, Karthik.
Drafting
[edit]Did you ever make a draft on a novel you like, but had to keep it neutral? Do you have any advice?
- Your friend,
- Conner
- @Theobliviaf: I read your draft on A Curse so Dark and Lonely yesterday. You have put a lota work into it, dude. I personally think it's possible to write an unbiased article on a novel you like but it's gonna take a lot of effort from you when you're writing the plot and stuff. Gotta make sure that we don't over/under exaggerate any content of the storyline. Try asking someone the story of the first Harry Potter. Everyone will have their own version. So, it's best you create a framework plot by not expressing much about the characters or the story and let the other editors express their opinions. This is how I'd ideally deal with Novel related Articles but I don't do those. I am not an expert when it comes to novels. I create stuff like this. Good call on the PROD. Given that it's plausible, even likely, that this school passes WP:NCORP or WP:GNG, I turned it into a redirect. This way, if an editor DOES have good sources to make an WP:AFD-resistant article, he doesn't have to start from scratch or request a WP:REFUND. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:45, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Thank you for responding at such sort notice. I totally agree that it should be a redirect. I still am a very armature editor but may I know how this particular article stayed active for so long. It would be really nice of you if you can explain how to respond to similar articles when I come around them. Is PROD/CSD the right choice or do you recommend anything else? Thank you once again - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 03:18, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Until a few years ago, just about every school that was the equivalent of a High school in the United States was "presumed" to have enough local coverage in newspapers that if you tried, you could demonstrate that the school met Wikipedia's notability guidelines. This meant it was very hard to get articles about such schools deleted. Things changed a few years ago. Had this gone to WP:AFD 10 years ago it would've been met with "it's a high school, there's a reference that proves it exists, keep." davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:22, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Really sweet of you to explain it to me. I hope I am not bothering you but I also have another question. If an editor can creates an article about something which qualifies for WP:NCORP but provides zero sources to back it's claims then anyone can misuse it, right? Hypothetically speaking, maybe someone can add edits suggesting that the high school has a large 50 meter swimming pool and making false claims that it got many bogus awards and such. This will attract parents to this school more than the others. I couldn't come up with a nice example but I hope you can understand what I mean. This could be used for false advertisement I suppose. I encountered a similar situation few months back where an editor created a high quality article stating some 19 year old kid as a political party leader. Nobody noticed it until I "mistakenly" clicked into the article while I was browsing the Special:NewPagesFeed. I know Wikipedia is not perfect but this is dangerous for regular naive users who assumes that everything in Wikipedia is true. What should we do to prevent these kinda article to stay cause the article I PRODed on was active for more than a decade with no citations whatsoever. That school houses 2000+ students. This is worrying to me. Thank you and I am really sorry for bothering you. Noob users don't get chance to talk to admin that often. Please excuse my curiosity, I just want to make our encyclopedia better - Call me Karthik 😉🤞 (talk • contribs) 03:43, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- This is the reason why Wikipedia requires sources. Unsourced information which is "questionable" for whatever reason, maybe because it is flattering, maybe because it is disparaging, should be flagged with {{cn}} or a similar template "on sight." Editors are free to remove the information outright, but usually it's better just to "tag it." If it's something "run of the mill" like "ACME high school has 500 students" and there's no reason to believe otherwise, you don't even have to tag it, you can just assume good faith on the part of whoever put it there.
- If it's in a biolgraphy of a living person, disparaging content that isn't backed up should be removed "on sight." If it's really harmful, WP:OVERSIGHT may be needed.
- A better place to ask such questions is the WP:Teahouse.
- If you haven't read Help:Contents and Wikipedia:About yet, they may prove informative. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:02, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hey, man. Can I bother you with a question? Do I need to read any specific articles to make my draft? Also, can you write two drafts, or does it work if you focus on one at a time?
- Yours truly,
- Conner
Theobliviaf (talk) 14:56, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Theobliviaf: Hey, Conner! I will always recommend focusing on one draft at a time cause it's easy for those to get rejected. Imagine putting hours of work into an article only to see it get rejected. It's better to perfect one article at a time and another mistake I personally did was create multiple drafts and lose track of them. I don't mind helping you with your draft. - @Theobliviaf: I am genuinely touched, Conner. I mean I have no relation with Goodson. He is not from my Country or my Race or Anything. It took three days for anyone to be bother about this case. The County tried to put this under the carpet but thankfully the Feds are involved now. Even George Floyd passed a counterfeit $20 bill, what did Casey do? Confusing a Subway sandwich with a gun is just unbelievable. What happened to his family was injustice and I am trying to bring awareness to a wide range of people. I am proud to have a friend like you who would support me for a good cause. I tried asking for help in Wikipedia's Discord Server (A Group with 2K+ people) and nobody volunteered. I felt bad. The worse part is people were volunteering for some rich Ghana dude instead. Thanks a lot once again and together let's put some light and try to bring justice a step closer for Goodson and his family.

Article of the month.
Shuttle-Centaur was a version of the Centaur upper stage rocket designed to be carried aloft inside the Space Shuttle. Two variants were developed: Centaur G-Prime and Centaur G. The powerful Centaur upper stage allowed for heavier deep space probes, and for them to reach Jupiter sooner. However, neither variant ever flew on a Shuttle. |

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
[edit]Women in Red 8th Anniversary | |
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |
