I changed other cultural backgrounds to backward cultures because that was the viewpoint at the time and I object to historical revisionism. I also tried to remove Sweden from one of the countries mentioned as a colonial power, since it was never relevant as a colonial power. please explain why you reverted these changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.224.89.237 (talk) 11:28, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Your edit was reverted because it didn't appear to be written in a neutral point of view, but now that you have clarified it the situation makes sense now. Hello
My editing has been declined - how do I go about having it accepted knowing that I am the oldest living person in the UK with the condition?
Many thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whispers1 (talk • contribs) 14:15, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
- You will need a reliable source that accurately confirms that you are the record holder. See WP:CITE for help on citing sources in articles. Simply claiming that you are the subject isn't accepted on Wikipedia as there is no real way of verifying this fact, as anyone can create an account and claim to be someone. --I am k6ka Talk to me! - @Ssilvers: Hello. IPs or users that continue to vandalize after their final warning should be reported to WP:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Thank you, for addressing my request for a Username change
Thank you, very much, for your prompt response to my Username-change request. I see that you do plenty of work, to keep Wikipedia healthy and strong. And that work is of a technical and specialized nature which is far beyond my own abilities, at least as much as it is far beyond the ken of most users of this greatest-of-all websites. I know your job is thankless—thus, against that thanklessness, here I strike! All the best, to you and yours. Analogdrift (talk) 07:59, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Analogdrift: Thank you! Yes, this job is very thankless and very under-recognized by the general public and the global community outside of Wikipedia. For over a decade thousands of people have been working tirelessly to get articles out to the public and to build Wikipedia to what it is today. Even today, new pages are being created, articles are being improved, and errors are being fixed. And despite all of this work people still continue to pass Wikipedia off as a faceless website that anyone can edit and make deliberate factual errors to fool the world. *sigh* The nerve of rude people nowadays! --I am k6ka Talk to me! Hi, Sorry I was generally just upset. I have friends who are South Korean and had recently heard from them that a member of their family in NK had been imprisoned in one of the North's notorious prison camps for refusing to have their hair cut the same as the 'supreme fat idiot'. I was just annoyed as it had upset my friend and was just out to put something stupid\nasty on the 'supreme fat idiot' wiki article. So some lazy random editor (with an obvious bias against sidemen musicians) along with someone equally as lazy agreeing with him are all that is required to remove a Wikipedia article? - 1. I can't restore the deleted page because I'm not an administrator, so I can't undelete pages.
- 2. The page you edited was the deletion discussion page of the article in question. If you disagree with the deletion you should take part in the discussion and voice your status on why you think the article should've been kept. Removing other people's messages on discussion pages other than your own are against the talk page guidelines.
- 3. The discussion page is archived. Please do not edit it.
- 4. I'm a neutral party. I did not take part in the deletion discussion nor did I ever edit the article. I merely saw your edit while patrolling recent changes and I have no affiliation with the people that took part in the deletion discussion or process. So don't label me as one that needs to take blame.
- But now that the article has been deleted you're better off going through the deletion review process instead. You might also want to read how Wikipedia decides how articles are deleted too. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 02:20, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

- Well, think about it ;) You never see people sign their name when you read a Wikipedia article. Neither should you! It looks unprofessional, for one thing, and for the other, Wikipedia is a collaborative project, because editors work together to build an article, not just one person. Signing names in articles give the impression of ownership and as a rule, articles are owned by the community, not by one person. It also says at WP:SIGNHERE that
Edits to articles must not be signed, as signatures on Wikipedia are not intended to indicate ownership or authorship of any article. Rather, the page history takes care of the need to identify edits with users.
So don't worry about your work going uncredited; it is automatically done for you.

Restoring absurd content with non-existing reference sources
You seem to have reverted my action and restored content subjected to non-existing reference source in the Wine article, together with the non-existing source, leaving it in incomplete state. The content itself is absurd, as all research projects of pased decades aimed to establish oringins of winegrape cultivation failed to narrow it down to such exteemly tiny geographic area. If such highly doubtfull content is added to the article, it should be based on solid reference sources. I highly suggest it to be removed. --Hayordi (talk) 12:42, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- @Hayordi: Why do you repeatedly say "non-existent source" when all I was doing was adding an archive link to the source that did in fact exist. The original is currently unavailable but it was archived by the Wayback Machine when it was available, which you can see here. It's supported, and if you disagree with it, head over to the talk page with a better reason than "non-existent source". --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 14:02, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Still the source is not related to the content that it's refered to. An extensive gene-mapping project in 2006 analyzed the heritage of more than 110 modern grape cultivars, narrowing their origin to a region of Georgia. Can't find anything about it there. Is this the referenced source? I'll take it to the talk page.--Hayordi (talk) 09:42, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

Recent software changes
- The "Special:Cite" page is now called "Special:CiteThisPage". That way, you know it's to cite the page, not to add a reference. [18]
- You can no longer use the
insource:
keyword for text searches. It caused issues with the new search tool. It will come back later. [19] [20]
Problems
- There was a bug in VisualEditor with Internet Explorer. It hid tools like the link editor when you opened them. The bug was fixed on Monday. [21]
- Issues with the new search tool caused geo data code to show up on pages on Monday and Friday. The mobile "nearby" tool was also broken. The problem is now fixed. [22] [23] [24]
- HHVM caused server issues on Thursday. They are now fixed.
Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf5) has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since October 29. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 4, and on all Wikipedias from November 5 (calendar).
- Some wikis have icons at the top of a page to show if it is protected or featured. Icons show up using CSS. You can now use the
<indicator>
tag in these templates instead to add the icons. [25] [26] - VisualEditor now tells you if you're editing a re-used reference. This helps you avoid changing it if you just want to add a new one. [27]
- The icons in VisualEditor's template editor tool for adding more fields are back, along with other fixes. [28] [29] [30] [31] [32]
- After November 6, all wikis will have the tool to edit TemplateData. [33] [34] [35]
Future changes
- The new search tool will come to the last wikis in the coming weeks. This includes Wikipedia in French, Chinese, German and English. [36]

VisualEditor newsletter—November 2014
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has fixed many bugs and requests, and worked on support for editing tables and for using non-Latin languages. Their weekly updates are posted on Mediawiki.org. Informal notes from the recent quarterly review were posted on Meta.
Recent improvements
The French Wikipedia should see better search results for links, templates, and media because the new search engine was turned on for everyone there. This change is expected at the Chinese and German Wikipedias next week, and eventually at the English Wikipedia.
The "pawn" system has been mostly replaced. Bugs in this system sometimes added a chess pawn character to wikitext. The replacement provides better support for non-Latin languages, with full support hopefully coming soon.
VisualEditor is now provided to editors who use Internet Explorer 10 or 11 on desktop and mobile devices. Internet Explorer 9 is not supported yet.
The keyboard shortcuts for items in the toolbar's menus are now shown in the menus. VisualEditor will replace the existing design with a new theme from the User Experience / Design group. The appearance of dialogs has already changed in one Mobile version. The appearance on desktops will change soon. (You can see a developer preview of the old "Apex" design and the new "MediaWiki" theme which will replace it.)
Several bugs were fixed for internal and external links. Improvements to MediaWiki's search solved an annoying problem: If you searched for the full name of the page or file that you wanted to link, sometimes the search program could not find the page. A link inside a template, to a local page that does not exist, will now show red, exactly as it does when reading the page. Due to a error, for about two weeks this also affected all external links inside templates. Opening an auto-numbered link node like [37] with the keyboard used to open the wrong link tool. These problems have all been fixed.
TemplateData
The tool for quickly editing TemplateData will be deployed to all Wikimedia Foundation wikis on Thursday, 6 November. This tool is already available on the biggest 40 Wikipedias, and now all wikis will have access to it. This tool makes it easier to add TemplateData to the template's documentation. When the tool is enabled, it will add a button above every editing window for a template (including documentation subpages). To use it, edit the template or a subpage, and then click the "Edit template data" button at the top. Read the help page for TemplateData. You can test the TemplateData editor in a sandbox at Mediawiki.org. Remember that TemplateData should be placed either on a documentation subpage or on the template page itself. Only one block of TemplateData will be used per template.
You can use the new autovalue setting to pre-load a value into a template. This can be used to substitute dates, as in this example, or to add the most common response for that parameter. The autovalue can be easily overridden by the editor, by typing something else in the field.
In TemplateData, you may define a parameter as "required". The template dialog in VisualEditor will warn editors if they leave a "required" parameter empty, and they will not be able to delete that parameter. If the template can function without this parameter, then please mark it as "suggested" or "optional" in TemplateData instead.
Looking ahead
Basic support for inserting tables and changing the number of rows and columns in tables will appear next Wednesday. Advanced features, like dragging columns to different places, will be possible later. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon. To help editors find the most important items more quickly, some items in the toolbar menus will be hidden behind a "More" item, such as "underlining" in the styling menu. The appearance of the media search dialog will improve, to make picking between possible images easier and more visual. The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap.
The user guide will be updated soon to add information about editing tables. The translations for most languages except Spanish, French, and Dutch are significantly out of date. Please help complete the current translations for users who speak your language. Talk to us if you need help exporting the translated guide to your wiki.
You can influence VisualEditor's design. Tell the VisualEditor team what you want changed during the office hours via IRC. The next sessions are on Wednesday, 19 November at 16:00 UTC and on Wednesday 7 January 2015 at 22:00 UTC. You can also share your ideas at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback.
Also, user experience researcher Abbey Ripstra is looking for editors to show her how they edit Wikipedia. Please sign up for the research program if you would like to hear about opportunities.
If you would like to help with translations of this newsletter, please subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact us directly, so that we can notify you when the next issue is ready. Subscribe or unsubscribe at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Newsletter. Thank you!

- You can join two IRC chats this week to learn more about the file cleanup project. One will be on Wednesday at 18:00 (UTC) and the other on Thursday at 04:00 (UTC). You can ask questions during the chat if you need help to fix files on your wiki.
- You can see a list of files to fix on the Labs tool. You can report bugs and ask questions on the talk page.
Problems
- Wikimedia Labs was broken for a few hours on Thursday. It was due to a hardware problem. [41]
Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf7) has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since November 5. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 11, and on all Wikipedias from November 12 (calendar).
- You can now use more editing tools for tables in VisualEditor. You can add rows and columns, merge cells, and edit table captions. [42] [43]
- The style and insert menus in the toolbar of VisualEditor now show fewer tools. This helps you see the most common tasks. You can see all items by clicking "More". [44]
- The way windows inside VisualEditor work has changed. VisualEditor should be faster and have fewer bugs. [45]

Your activity
Why didn't you report this IP: Special:Contributions/71.89.87.59? They added grossly offensive content and BLP violations and yet you gave them a lenient warning. - Hoops gza (talk) 00:28, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Hoops gza: Well, the IP is blocked now (problem solved). When I do recent changes patrolling, I typically look for a "Level 4" or "Only" warning before I report them. Habit. But it's how I started recent changes patrolling, how semi-automated anti-vandal tools work, and it's how I do it today. Also, I'm not sure how a "Please stop your disruptive editing, otherwise you will be blocked from editing" is lenient. I've had a lot of people tell me I've been too "harsh" from the template warnings, so calling it lenient seems a bit weak. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 01:07, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Username Change
Hi, I'm new to this whole knew Wiki thing, so I'm not exactly sure what it is I need to do in order to get my name changed.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
XXportsideXx (talk) 22:07, 20 November 2014 (UTC) xXportsideXx
- @XXportsideXx: See Wikipedia:Changing_username/Usurpations/Rejected/20#XXportsideXx_.E2.86.92_XXportsideXx. Your username cannot be given a lowercase letter, because the MediaWiki software automatically capitalizes the first letter of every username. You can, however, add the template {{lowercase title}} to your userpage and talk page so it appears to be in lowercase in the page title, and you can change your talk page signature in Special:Preferences to reflect that. I do the latter, since I originally thought of this username with a lowercase "k" in front, and that is reflected in my signature to compensate for these limitations. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Recent changes
- The move from Bugzilla to Phabricator is done. You can now report bugs in Phabricator. [48]
Problems
- There was a problem when editing tables in VisualEditor. VisualEditor was trying to fix bad values for the
colspan
orrowspan
option. VisualEditor now leaves the bad values to avoid making things worse. This was fixed on November 17. [49]
Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf9) has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since November 19. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from November 25, and on all Wikipedias from November 26 (calendar).
- You will be able to try VisualEditor on many new wikis for the first time. After November 26, VisualEditor will become available on Wikidata, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikiversity, Wikivoyage, and Wikinews wikis. You can find it in your Beta options. [50]
- VisualEditor now tells you if your edit needs to be approved. [51]
- You can now use VisualEditor's tools directly when you resume editing after closing the save window. [52]
- VisualEditor's table editing tools now work better in right-to-left languages. [53] [54]

Editing my article
My article was recently deleted and I would like to know what i have to change on my article "Allen Ritter" to meet Wikipedia guidelines? Joeurena (talk) 21:35, 25 November 2014 (UTC) Joeurena
- @Joeurena: The article didn't seem to be written in a neutral point of view. It's a global Wikimedia policy that pages are written in a neutral tone and avoid the use of Weasel or Peacock words. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 22:27, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Sleep and weight
Hi...i see you re-added the information I recently deleted on the sleep and weight page but i was instructed to delete it from my professor. i made this page for a college class and our teacher didnt actually want us to make the page live. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aweisenfels (talk • contribs) 21:46, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Aweisenfels: You want to tell your teacher that, according to the license Wikipedia runs on, anything you put on Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project can and will be freely redistributed, reused, and edited by other people. You will be credited, but you don't own it. Because you don't own the material, you have no direct control over it. You may discuss with other editors about the material, but consensus must be evident for controversial actions, such as page deletions, will happen. If he/she doesn't want the page up anymore, too bad. You can have him/her go to articles for deletion if he/she really wants the page deleted, but chances are his/her reason won't be accepted. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Username change request
Hi, as per your suggestion, I made a request on m:SRUC, but to no avail: [55]
What would you recommend I do next? I can't change my name due to the ru local account, and I can't do a global request due to the global account, leaving me stumped. Does it help that the ru account has not been used since 2011? Regards, KiraChinmoku 09:46, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Kirachinmoku: Hmm. The only other thing I can think about is going to ru.wikipedia and filing a local usurp there to see if they can grant you that username. If not, though, you might not be able to get your new username, so you might have to improvise. You can try and have your account renamed to something similar, maybe "Sairento1" or "Sairento101". I use this method on YouTube, where k6ka is already taken, so I use "k6ka1" instead. Cheers. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 11:57, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Your additions were promotional because it was written in a promotional tone, and remember that Wikipedia is not a place for you to advertise or promote your website, and we are not the Yellow Pages. The website address also violates our external links policy, and our policy on spam. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 15:02, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
Why aren't you an administrator?
I suspect it's because no one has yet offered to nominate you, so please accept this offer. I would recommend you find at least one co-nominator though - perhaps someone who can do a deeper dive into your contributions, as my nomination statement will probably be somewhat brief. If you don't want to stand for adminship now, consider this an open offer. Let me know if you want me to write up the nomination. Cheers, –xenotalk 19:54, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Xeno: Thank you for the offer! While I have stated (somewhere) that I'm not closed to the idea of becoming an administrator, I would like to decline this offer at this time. The reason being is that, while I have administrator experience, being an admin on three other wikis, and that I am confident with the mop in my hands, I don't feel the !voters at RfA would think the same way. While my anti-vandalism work will probably earn me several supports here and there, oppose !votes will probably be on my relative lack of article development and virtually non-existent participation in AFD, and going through WP:RFA Guide and WP:RFAADVICE, I figured it would be better if I waited a bit longer before being nominated for the mop, maybe a year or so. Of course, if you think differently you're welcome to try and convince me! --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 21:49, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'd say you're about as prepared as I was or better, but that was 2008 and attitudes have shifted somewhat. It's ultimately your choice, as I said the offer is open. –xenotalk 22:09, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Xeno: Well, I'm glad you feel that I am ready, but maybe it would be better to wait a bit longer before considering adminship. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 22:27, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Username change request (2)
I was told that the name Gregory Christopher Baggett which I changed from NYC HDFC is already being used. It may be me that created that account but never edited any Wiki content please advise. Is it possible for me to have a name associated with NYC HDFC and one associated with my work as an professor which is different from the work housing advocacy work I do or it it best to usurp the old account and use only one identification when editing and writing Wiki entries. I am new to the technology and is essentially feeling my way through the dark. Gregory. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.44.171 (talk) 18:12, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- You are currently not logged in. Please remember to log in before editing, so we can verify that it's you. Excuse me if this inappropriate, you are my first Wiki experience, which I must add is quite nerve-racking. On reading your user page, liking you have a humourous nature and cleaning the work of vandals, I wondered if you were aware of the fact the red phone box once in use, in England, now part of England's heritage, are named K6. Thank you for your concern regarding changing Kash Beauchamp's birth city back to Bartlesville. I happen to be his brother, and we were born in the same hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was not born in Bartlesville, OK. In fact, he only lived there a brief period of time. We mostly grew up in Grove, Oklahoma.
-Timothy Beauchamp — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.98.247.6 (talk) 09:41, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- That would constitute original research, which we do not permit here on Wikipedia. Everything must come from a reliable source and be properly cited into the article. Reason being is that anyone can come on to Wikipedia, claim to be someone, and then say "I'm his/her mother/father/spouse/brother/sister/cousin/whatever". We have no method of verifying just who is behind that computer monitor, so we don't take that chance. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 13:45, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
