Good to hear from you

Hi K6ka:
Thanks for checking in. If my memory were better, I would have let you known about rollback. I did not ask for it. An administrator asked me if I wanted it after he(?) handled an AIV report I had made and checked my recent work on vandalism review. It was nice to get the tool that way because it recognized some merit in my work.
I did not know that one could use either version of Huggle. You are definitely correct that there are pros and cons. There are instances where I want to see the entire article and need to go off Huggle and to the Wikipedia page to do so. One or two other types of warning might be useful in the drop down menu. Also, I have learned that a vandal has not always been given four warnings when Huggle shows that the person has received them. Then, one needs to go to the user talk page and leave another warning. This seems to happens when patrollers leave a level 4 warning early. I have found that some administrators will not issue a block until four warnings are given and a fifth vandalism is made even if the vandalism is clear - unless maybe it is a personal attack or otherwise very bad. If the vandal is bad enough, he(?) will make a few more edits soon enough. I also have encountered a few other glitches, although it may be that was because I was not thoroughly familiar with the tool.
I worry a little about unintended mistakes with Huggle but I have corrected the few I have made promptly. I also sometimes delete a notice even though I think the reversion was correct. This has occurred mainly when someone has deleted content that looks good and usually has a citation but they leave no reason. If they come back with a valid reason, I will strike out the notice. I don't usually restore the edit when my rationale was good. I leave it up to the user.
Thanks for describing the other tools. I wondered whether STiki might be a good alternative to Huggle and was thinking of trying it to see if it did not have Huggle's drawbacks. Strangely, I had never heard of Vada! I like the idea of these tools working in the browser like Twinkle. I sometimes keep strange hours and catch some vandalism in off hours for most patrollers but I have seen the problems that can come up if no one is monitoring changes. I have found vandalism to articles on my watch list a day or two later. Of course, some of this is more subtle and perhaps might have been missed by the tools.
Again, it is good to hear from you. Keep up your good work!Donner60 (talk) 20:31, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

List of banned users MfD

Hi K6ka. Thanks for taking the time to comment on the proposals for change at the list of banned users. It's clear that there's sufficient support that a deletion will not be SNOW closed, so I've listed it at MfD - Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:List of banned users (6th nomination). I thought it appropriate to keep you informed. WormTT(talk) 09:54, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Sean Cullen

I am Sean Cullen. Why do I have to ask your permission to remove things from my own page that I believe weight my biographical material in direction that pleases you? Because I exist and am an entity in the public eye does that mean that you own my life? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.185.211 (talk) 03:01, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. You have misread my notice and my message. This isn't about me owning your life, but rather enforcing a key Wikipedia policy in that a conflict of interest prevents us from writing an accurate and formally written encyclopedia. For starters, you technically do not own the page. Not even a page about yourself. At the bottom of the edit window it clearly states that "By clicking the "Save page" button, you agree to the Terms of Use and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL with the understanding that a hyperlink or URL is sufficient for CC BY-SA 3.0 attribution." In non-jargon form, it means that any work you submit is no longer yours and you do not own the text, though you will be credited for it. Your work can be reused, modified, or reverted at will and at the discretion of other editors. Secondly, it's a bit harsh to accuse me of "owning your life" when multiple other editors have edited your article as well. They do not "own your life", rather they are trying to build an encyclopedia. If an editor reverts your edit, it was most likely within reason, and my reason was that 1. There were no sources cited for your additions, and as a rule everything that is on the biography of a living person must be supported by a reliable source or it must be reverted, in order to protect the living subject, and 2. Again as mentioned, your conflict of interest is worrisome, and that we generally discourage people from editing an article about themselves or the company they work for. If you have any other questions, please direct them to the Teahouse. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 14:13, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
Why do I have to ask your permission to remove things from my own page that I believe weight my biographical material in direction that pleases you? You have misunderstood. Since when was this my encyclopedia? I don't own this website, I am simply a contributor that helps to build it. In short, a volunteer editor and not an employee. And when did this ever please me? I did not make up the rules for conflict of interests or biographical material or citing sources. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia built collaboratively by the people that read it, not by one person or by one person's sole discretion to rule over the website. See our about page for who we really are and what we really do. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 14:24, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

You didn't read my message carefully enough, did you? Wikipedia is not a place for you to promote your company or business. If your company is notable enough, then you should request that the article be created. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 21:09, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Toy Weapon

Yes i think you made a mistake but not by deleting my correction but by allowing someone to start a page called "toy Weapon" like i wrote in that page a weapon (by Google standards) is weap·on ˈwepən noun a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage.

Therefore if you use the word "WEAPON" with toy it just doesn't make sense, unless you think inflicting real bodily harm is a game. A weapon is a word with a specific meaning described above, it simply shouldn't be used with TOY. I know words are often tossed around freely like "assault weapons" which can be anything you use to assault someone, but in the minds of many it's an AR type rifle "black gun" I just think it's about time to set the clocks straight and starting here would be a good place, since peoples looks your way to get straight answers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kobs7024 (talkcontribs) 14:29, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

@Kobs7024: Wikipedia is not a dictionary, and Wikipedia always writes in a neutral point of view. Your opinions are welcomed, but they just don't belong here on Wikipedia. We're not here to promote beliefs about what is right or wrong -- we just state the facts. See our about page for who we really are.
And I'm not sure why you accuse me of "allowing someone to start a page called 'toy weapon'", because I'm not the king of Wikipedia. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 14:32, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Brompton page

Hello! Thanks for your message. Since this is a Brompton page so I think it is more appropriate to put "Cycle manufacturers of the United Kingdom" instead of the "List of bicycle manufacturing companies" or you can make it two lines :

- Cycle manufacturers of the United Kingdom
- List of bicycle manufacturing companies

Thanks again... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.24.162.229 (talk) 14:35, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

There are two issues with this request:
  1. The article Cycle manufacturers of the United Kingdom does not exist
  2. The article is already in the category Category:Cycle manufacturers of the United Kingdom, so adding another link is not necessary.

Your vandalism list

Hi, k6ka! Why you take out the vandalism list on your user page? I thought it's a quote. --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 00:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

@AllenHAcNguyen: I was thinking about the list a lot recently, and as any vandal fighter knows (or at least *should* know) is that vandals tend to crave attention. Keeping a list of edits they made gives them that attention so they keep coming back for more. The words WP:DENY keeps floating around in my head and I've cited the policy on many talk pages as well. I almost looked like a hypocrite keeping this list. I wasn't adding anything to it anyway, so I figured it would be better to simply remove it. However I'm not requesting the revisions to be REVDEL'd, so you can always view them here anytime you want.
I might be making vandal-fighting more of a job than a fun hobby, but I can still laugh at these silly edits at the end of the day, anyway. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Edit on Tracy Ann Oberman

Hi there.. On your last entry re JC quote you have selectively chosen a sentence from the said article of TAO piece without using the whole meaning of the article. In doing so you are either trying to make a political point or have forgotten to add the rest of the article. It is unhelpful and unnecessary to the page and appears to be put in with an "agenda". Please add the whole sentence or remove it entirely. Thankyou ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swordofmarble (talkcontribs) 14:42, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

@Swordofmarble: You haven't addressed the other reasons as to why you removed content without explanation and inserted unsourced content. Also I did not selectively choose the sentence, the revert was a "full revert", not a "partial pick-and-choose" one. I fail to see how I'm trying to "make a political point" when it was a direct quote from another source. Quotes can either be detached from the text and separate or they can be "merged into the text". Also, this edit is clearly outside the neutral point of view policy and reads more like commentary. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 15:15, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Tyco US -1 Trucking

Hello.

My first wiki update attempt.

I have added info to what was a very bare page.

I have attempted to add two links to ModelMotorist.com to show chassis and track types used in the range.

This site is very informative and helpful and shows most of the different types of tracks and chassis usd in HO slot cars. In particular US-1 Trucking, so I don't feel it is inappropriate.

I have no commercial interest in that site, but have found it useful in research

@Highwayman97: It might be easier if you included it as a footnote citation. Is there a specific piece of information in the article that the website you linked to supported? --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 23:35, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

VisualEditor newsletter—September and October 2014

Did you know?

TemplateData is a separate program that organizes information about the parameters that can be used in a template. VisualEditor reads that data, and uses it to populate its simplified template dialogs.

With the new TemplateData editor, it is easier to add information about parameters, because the ones you need to use are pre-loaded.

See the help page for TemplateData for more information about adding TemplateData. The user guide has information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing team has reduced technical debt, simplified some workflows for template and citation editing, made major progress on Internet Explorer support, and fixed over 125 bugs and requests. Several performance improvements were made, especially to the system around re-using references and reference lists. Weekly updates are posted on Mediawiki.org.

There were three issues that required urgent fixes: a deployment error that meant that many buttons didn't work correctly (bugs 69856 and 69864), a problem with edit conflicts that left the editor with nowhere to go (bug 69150), and a problem in Internet Explorer 11 that caused replaced some categories with a link to the system message, MediaWiki:Badtitletext (bug 70894) when you saved. The developers apologize for the disruption, and thank the people who reported these problems quickly.

Increased support for devices and browsers

Internet Explorer 10 and 11 users now have access to VisualEditor. This means that about 5% of Wikimedia's users will now get an "Edit" tab alongside the existing "Edit source" tab. Support for Internet Explorer 9 is planned for the future.

Tablet users browsing the site's mobile mode now have the option of using a mobile-specific form of VisualEditor. More editing tools, and availability of VisualEditor on smartphones, is planned for the future. The mobile version of VisualEditor was tweaked to show the context menu for citations instead of basic references (bug 68897). A bug that broke the editor in iOS was corrected and released early (bug 68949). For mobile tablet users, three bugs related to scrolling were fixed (bug 66697bug 68828bug 69630). You can use VisualEditor on the mobile version of Wikipedia from your tablet by clicking on the cog in the top-right when editing a page and choosing which editor to use.

TemplateData editor

A tool for editing TemplateData will be deployed to more Wikipedias soon.  Other Wikipedias and some other projects may receive access next month. This tool makes it easier to add TemplateData to the template's documentation.  When the tool is enabled, it will add a button above every editing window for a template (including documentation subpages). To use it, edit the template or a subpage, and then click the "Edit template data" button at the top.  Read the help page for TemplateData. You can test the TemplateData editor in a sandbox at Mediawiki.org. Remember that TemplateData should be placed either on a documentation subpage or on the template page itself. Only one block of TemplateData will be used per template.

Other changes

Several interface messages and labels were changed to be simpler, clearer, or shorter, based on feedback from translators and editors. The formatting of dialogs was changed, and more changes to the appearance will be coming soon, when VisualEditor implements the new MediaWiki theme from Design. (A preview of the theme is available on Labs for developers.) The team also made some improvements for users of the Monobook skin that improved the size of text in toolbars and fixed selections that overlapped menus.

VisualEditor-MediaWiki now supplies the mw-redirect or mw-disambig class on links to redirects and disambiguation pages, so that user gadgets that colour in these in types of links can be created.

Templates' fields can be marked as 'required' in TemplateData. If a parameter is marked as required, then you cannot delete that field when you add a new template or edit an existing one (bug 60358).

Language support improved by making annotations use bi-directional isolation (so they display correctly with cursoring behaviour as expected) and by fixing a bug that crashed VisualEditor when trying to edit a page with a dir attribute but no lang set (bug 69955).

Looking ahead

The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon, perhaps in late October.

The team is also working on support for adding rows and columns to tables, and early work for this may appear within the month. Please comment on the design at Mediawiki.org.

In the future, real-time collaborative editing may be possible in VisualEditor. Some early preparatory work for this was recently done.

Supporting your wiki

At Wikimania, several developers gave presentations about VisualEditor. A translation sprint focused on improving access to VisualEditor was supported by many people. Deryck Chan was the top translator. Special honors also go to संजीव कुमार (Sanjeev Kumar), Robby, Takot, Bachounda, Bjankuloski06 and Ата. A summary of the work achieved by the translation community has been posted here. Thank you all for your work.

VisualEditor can be made available to most non-Wikipedia projects. If your community would like to test VisualEditor, please contact product manager James Forrester or file an enhancement request in Bugzilla.

Please join the office hours on Saturday, 18 October 2014 at 18:00 UTC (daytime for the Americas; evening for Africa and Europe) and on Wednesday, 19 November at 16:00 UTC on IRC.

Give feedback on VisualEditor at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback. Subscribe or unsubscribe at Meta. To help with translations, please subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact Elitre at Meta. Thank you!

Parachute page

I saw your message about my modification (from croatian Fausto Veranzio to dalmatian Fausto Veranzio), but saying that Veranzio is Croatian is totally wrong. Sebenico, like other towns in Dalmatia, have a population of Latin, Italian and Slave origins. The culture is italian (It was under Venezia's republic rule and Veranzio studied at Padova and Venezia). So when we are talking about people who came from towns that have so unusual nad complicated situation, it's better to avoid to use adjective like Slave, Croatian or Italian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.7.41.166 (talk) 10:31, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Fausto Veranzio was born in Croatia, so even if he came from a diverse town we still call him "Croatian". Just like a Chinese person from New York City would still be called "American". And secondly, it may confuse readers when one article says he's Dalmatian and the article about Fausto Veranzio himself says he's Croatian. --I am k6ka Talk to me! what?

there is a random message at the previous webpage saying i vandalized the webpage. lol i didnt do a damn thing. in fact ive never even visited that particular webpage so... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.180.33.110 (talk) 03:24, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Most likely someone else that was using your IP address vandalized Wikipedia and accumulated warnings, then they left and nobdy saw the warnings until you logged on and acquired the IP address. You may be using a shared IP address, so you might get messages that were not intended for you. Your best option would be to create an account of your own, which will hide your IP address and ensure that only messages directed to you are seen by you... providing you log in, that is. --I am k6ka Talk to me!
