Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Unlike templates, it is only used in a few pages, and extended confirmed users would never vandalize pages. Best regards, 4thfile4thrank {talk} :? 18:40, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

4thfile4thrank: a) JzG requested desysop earlier today, b) the statement that "extended confirmed editors never vandalize" is hilarious. GeneralNotability (talk) 20:40, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Also, why is this formatted as a subsection to the section above? On the assumption that that was accidental, I've changed it. Bishonen | tålk 21:01, 26 November 2020 (UTC).
@GeneralNotability: When have extended confirmed users ever vandalized? the only time I think are then they are compromised. Best regards, 4thfile4thrank {talk} :? 22:32, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
4thfile4thrank, well I've seen socks game XCON for vandalism. JavaHurricane 04:42, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Implications

Should I worry about what you are up to? Not planning to leave or anything else drastic I hope? -Roxy the inedible dog . wooF 10:01, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Hear hear. I hope things are going okay for you, JzG. And if they aren't, I hope they improve in the very near future. --Yamla (talk) 10:26, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
It's been a long four years and it's going to be a rough period up until January, and I think I will be happier taking time off from sysopping. I am starting to sense my PTSD nagging away (thinking through the implications of the blatantly illegal unilateral withdrawal from Open Skies, followed by destroying the planes, in the context of the Flynn pardon - it is starting to look like the worst predictions of burning the house down and taking a shit on the carpet before leaving will play out). I don't need stress right now. One of my adult sons is furloughed due to being in a high risk group, the other is an Army officer whose partner is a nurse, and we are approaching Christmas, which I always dread but this year feels markedly worse. Time for a break. Guy (help! - typo?) 10:58, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope 2021 brings more stability and sanity to the world and I wish you well. You're someone I deeply respect and this year has been incredibly challenging. --Yamla (talk) 11:07, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Best wishes - I've got two furloughed, and I've had a letter from my County Council re-enforcing my high risk status like last time. The donald's fortunes have been the only bright light for me recently. Use the time well, enjoy. I know you dont need that advice, but hey! -Roxy the inedible dog . wooF 11:20, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
This too shall pass etc. Be well. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:22, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Sorry it's been stressful, hope a break from sysopping will help with that! —valereee (talk) 16:12, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Stay safe!! Netflix marathons really help. B) Atsme 💬 📧 16:43, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Hey JzG, I came for the same reason as all of these folks. Your own well-being is always the first priority; the encyclopedia will still be here when you're doing better. Best wishes for you and your family in these trying times. GeneralNotability (talk) 20:43, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Me too. Not a sysop (obviouslY), but I do know that sometimes you just need a break from the place, and it sounds like this is a good time for you, considering. Hope you get recharged and come back sooner rather than later, you're a valuable asset. Beyond My Ken (talk)
As everyone has said please take good care of tourself. Thanks for all that you have done here at the 'pedia over the years. MarnetteD|Talk 04:11, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Well dang, just saw the message. Stay safe and hopefully see you around again soon. PackMecEng (talk) 04:28, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Very best wishes. Richard Keatinge (talk) 18:51, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
Joining all in saying that Wikipedia is worse off for lack of your keen eye and steady hand, and wishing you well and hoping for sublimation of your stress. --‿Ꞅtruthious 𝔹andersnatch ͡ |℡| 07:54, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Frugal Christmas message

No images, fancy backgrounds or fancy code in those curly bracket things. Just a boring old plain text note wishing you a very peaceful Christmas season, and a Better New Year. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 11:19, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Seeking help regarding self-published sources, lulu.com and xlibris

Greetings JzG,

I am requesting asistance regarding the use of sources published by Xlibris and Lulu.com. Can you tell me whether or not these two examples are appropriate?

In the first example, see this quote from the blond article:

"The Hmong people were historically recorded with blonde hair and blue eyes by the Chinese since ancient times. Their light phenotypes made it easy for Chinese distinguish them.[1]"

^ As you may see from the reference, this book is listed as being published by the UCLA American studies center. However, I went to the link itself, and clicked "About this book", which took me to this page:

https://books.google.com/books?id=RmW4DwAAQBAJ&vq=hmong+people+blonde+hair+blue+eyes&source=gbs_navlinks_s

However, as demonstrated by the above link, this book is actually published by Lulu.com. Do you believe it is acceptable to use a book published by Lulu.com for biomedical information like the hair color or eye color of human populations, particularly when extraordinary claims are made, such as the presence of blond hair and blue eyes in a southeast Asian ethnic group like the Hmong?

In the second example, see this quote from the Genghis Khan article, regarding historical information about the physical appearance of Genghis Khsn:

"Under Kublai Khan supervision, he ordered Khorisun along with the other entrusted remaining followers of Genghis Khan to make sure that the portrait of Genghis Khan reflected his true image.[2]"

This reference uses an Xlibris source:

https://books.google.com/books?id=hONCAwAAQBAJ&vq=Through+the+Eyes+of+the+Pack+By+Lorenzo+Currie+genghis+khan+kublai+khan&source=gbs_navlinks_s

It's worth noting that this claim is directly contradicted by the Jack Weatherford reference preceding it, which says that the portrait of Genghis Khan is likely not perfectly accurate. And the author of the Xlibirs source, Lorenzo Currie, is not an established expert or historian, and the reference cited was his first published book. He appears to be employed as a Deputy Sheriff and has no credentials pertaining to history or liberal arts.

I apologize if I have burdened you with this information, but you caught my attention as you seem to have an interest in Xulu/Xlibris sources.

Yours, Hunan201p (talk) 13:36, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Just to note that Guy is on a wikibreak at the moment, and we don't know how long he'll be away, and I have no idea at all about your question above. -Roxy the inedible dog . wooF 16:21, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Can we revert to the Aussie man actually wearing a cork hat as an additional image. It is me, we originally added this picture on Australia Day. And I know I was wrong by inserting the image over and over again. Corkhatdude (talk) 18:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
