Reviving WikiProject PipeOrgan

[edit]

Hello, Jpech95! I'm attempting to revive Wikipedia:WikiProject PipeOrgan. As you has been a member of the project (as user 4myself4) I hope you would like to participate in its revival if you have time. Kind regards, Danmuz (talk) 11:35, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to rejoin the project, I didn't even know it disappeared. If I can be of any help, I would be happy to. Jpech95 18:17, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Well, it hadn't completely disappeared, but it had been flagged as "inactive" and pretty much all activity had died out until now. I have made some suggestions of what to improve at the project discussion page and If you have any comments or additions you are most welcome to chime in. Hi there. Someone noticed that you added a comment at Talk:Requiem (episode), a redirect page, and moved it to Talk:Requiem (NCIS), where I noticed it and replied to it. Regards SoWhy 22:22, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ireland

[edit]

Once we can safely declare Taiwan a success, we move along to another Wiki-travesty, like Ireland or America. Kauffner (talk) 09:23, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And it seems to be coming along fairly well, I would hope to see it be a success. Ireland is something I'd definitly like to see changed, because again, when you think Ireland, you think country, not the island, even though for the most part they are the same, as with Taiwan (again, without getting into all the politics). Although I think Ireland will be even harder because the Arbitration Committee has set up rules for discussing Ireland. As for America, I personally see nothing wrong with it, what do you think is the problem? Do you think that it should be redirected to US and there should be American (disamb.)? If so, I can kinda undertstand that. JPECH95 21:14, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the sentiment against making the state primary topic is pretty overwhelming, with British unionists allied with Irish IRA fans. But we don't have to worry about that. We can offer a list of the options and let people can vote for what they like, something like this. I'd add another option to the 2009 list: Move "Republic of Ireland" to "Ireland (state)" and leave everything else where it is. The logic for this is that just plain "Ireland" is the state's common, diplomatic, and constitutional name. So telling readers that the name of the state is "Republic of Ireland" in large type on the top of the article is quite misleading, whatever explanation is offered in the text. "Ireland" as a DAB page (Option E) was the second choice option in 2009, so that might be doable as well. Arbcom says we need to put the RM on WP:IECOLL, not the article talk pages. But the ban on page moves expired a few months ago.
Last time, they used European-style preference voting. People didn't seem to have any problem casting their votes. But if you look at the post-vote discussion, there is a lot of confusion concerning the correct way to interpret this type of voting. It can also be be done in more conventional Wiki style as a series of support/oppose RMs: Republic of Ireland → Ireland; ROI → Ireland (state); Ireland (disambiguation) → Ireland; Ireland → Ireland (island).
Yes, I think "America" should redirect to "United States". If you google America -wikipedia, you can go through many pages of results before you see anything Latin America related. Kauffner (talk) 02:51, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay that does make sence to me, because the Republic of Ireland technically doesn't exist, its not called that in the constitution nor is it by most countries (automatically against common name) and its only called Republic of Ireland in the Act of 1948 which further describes the state (and as specifically mentioned in the article, does not change the name of the state). I personally would rather go with Ireland (country) instead of Ireland (state) because many think state as being a subdivision of a country e.g. US, Germany, Austrialia, but that's not the important part. With America, I can understand that, but then what would the current America article be located at? America (disambiguation)? JPECH95 22:55, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And also, I would like to begin preparing for the Irish move, because a long time ago I had seen Ireland at ROI and I was thinking "why" and the arguements "the country hasn't even existed for a century" don't cut it. JPECH95 21:30, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We can create a page for a proposal and advertise it on WP:IECOLL on WP:IRELAND. Here is a start:

The article on the nation-state of Ireland is currently at Republic of Ireland. Just plain "Ireland" is the common name, and Wiki's usual practice is to put countries at their short-form common names. "Republic of Ireland" is not a proper long-form name either. The 1937 Irish constitution says, "The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland."[1] No mention of "republic." In fact, the Irish government has discouraged the use of the term ROI for some time, as documented at Republic of Ireland (term). See also the country's UN member profile, The Associated Press Stylebook, Britannica, and the "Ireland". The World Factbook (2024 ed.). Central Intelligence Agency.. The purpose of an encyclopedia is to inform. This purpose is not advanced if incorrect names are used.

Okay, we could do that. Option D is redudant though, as it is exactly as it is now (or was that your point)? JPECH95 02:30, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am assuming a "preference vote" like last time, so we need all the options. An editor would put the options in order of preference. A vote would be something like "ADCB." See here. Kauffner (talk) 03:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, okay. So we'll get that started on WP:IECOLL I suppose. JPECH95 19:34, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
