Beer festival
Thanks for fixing the link farm at Beer festival, it certainly needed doing. I have now put a dmoz link on there (a great way to combat link farms) and a {{nomorelinks}} notice. --Biker Biker (talk) 21:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Banana
Hi there.
Thanks for your message. I see you have moved the article from Banana Cultivars to Bananas. Yeah, sounds ok :) Glad you added more (expanded) info about the Banana in food usage and other topics. are there spieces of bananas? Normally in the other fauna templates they have species like apple has apple spieces and pears have pyrus species.
Just to let you know, I don't have any particular attachment to the template and I'm happy for you or anyone to improve on my work. Good work, nice image file :) Visik (talk) 02:24, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Cool :) About species I've no idea, I just ate a banana and felt a sudden urge to edit the template. I'll definitely look into it and if without results leave it for the banana nerds, there must be a few of them here on Wikipedia ;) Cheers, jonkerz♠ 02:42, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again. Thanks for your help. Hope they are more food nerds around to help out. I have created additional food templates such as Template:Glutinous rice dishes and Template:Rice dishes, Template:Mangoes and Template:Allium. If you want to help improve them, go for it. Tehran Community school question
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Community_High_School_Tehran,_Iran&action=history
You removed all EL. saying they were promos or non-contributing I don't think any of the advertisements in the yearbooks are valid anymore. It's true the yearbooks are posted on a site which has a front page with links to a commercial bookseller but there are not direct links from the yearbook pages to the frontpage. In other words, nothing compels someone to see anything other than the yearbook. As for the reunions: are you really going to say these are not important to the continued existence of a school that no longer exists except in the minds of its former students? How is a PDF of a diploma non-contributing?
The school should only exist on Wikipedia as history as written by a biased and sometime administrator of same school?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Xenicon (talk • contribs) 16:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
.
- Hi Xenicon, thanks for your response.
- The links in question are six in total, four of them could be classified as reunion/yearbook (CHS Reunion, Class of '79, Yearbook 1976, Yearbook 1975) and two are pdf graduation announcements/diplomas (Class of '74 graduation announcement, Class of '74 graduation diploma).
- Reunion/yearbook
- "As for the reunions: are you really going to say these are not important to the continued existence of a school that no longer exists except in the minds of its former students?" Since I've never been a student of the school I'm not questioning that but take your word for it: they may very well be highly important to former students; that said, it doesn't mean they are encyclopedic, hence belonging the the article. Also, promotional does not refer only to commercial links. Perhaps I could have used another description in the edit summary to avoid confusion, but the question concerning the links' encyclopedic value withstands.
- Announcements/diplomas
- As for the announcement and diploma links and I must say they are non-contributing. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a place link all possible external links on a given article's subject and ask yourself if announcement and diplomas should be linked from all high school's articles. If not, in order for them to be linked they must be of uttermost importance, a criteria I fail to see being met in this case. jonkerz♠ 22:12, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for yr reply but you should perhaps explain "encyclopedic, hence belonging the the article" . The yearbooks in particular are interesting because they are a photographic record of a time and place. So much that a yearbook would have no place in the actual article but provide details relevant to the subject. I can see how the reunions are less relevant since they are about the students and not the place. The diplomas probably ephemera. But the yearbooks? I don't follow yr argument. There was, earlier in the history, some discussion about these EL. You might review if you haven't already. As best I can make out linking to the yearbooks in particular does not violate any guidelines. Can you clarify if this is a misunderstanding?
Thanks for your reply Xenicon (talk) 13:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
here is the relevant part:
"Your instructions "Please, read the WP:External links guideline. These ext links don't meet the criteria for inclusion." I do not understand why links showing class information of a defunct school is irrelevant to the article? Whereas a long pompous self-serving exposition by a former headmaster is somehow more informative?
This is the section of WP;External Links I believe relevant: "Some acceptable links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy."
By this criteria external links to say a school yearbook of a hundred of more pages should be permitted. Likewise with a site devoted to a reunion of those classmates. It is not as if the school exists in any other place except in those few yearbook, pictures, and people. Can you explain why you disallow these? Xenicon (talk) 18:27, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
It is our policy that Wikipedia is not a repository of external links and our external links sections are not meant to be directories. Our external links sections should enhance a reader's encyclopedic understanding of a subject, they shouldn't point to every page written about the subject. In particular, our external links should link to encyclopedic information on a subject that we can't technically write into the article, such as large blocks of text, interview transcripts, photo galleries, etc. See also WP:ELNO, our section on external links to be avoided. ThemFromSpace 19:55, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
"encyclopedic understanding" of a school should perhaps include photographs of what happened at that school during a particular time without additional filters? Permitted: "such as large...photo galleries" I still do not see where your objection occurs in view of what you quoted from the guidelines."Xenicon (talk) 17:30, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again,
- After browsing through the history it seems like I was the third editor removing the links in the last two months (first here, later here), and also the third editor classifying them as non-encyclopedic. One of the problems with linking individual yearbooks is that there are more yearbooks than the three that were linked. Hardly every single yearbook in the school's ~170 years of existence is of interest, neither are the ones subject of this discussion.
- Your are right that the exposition by one of the former headmasters does not meet the criteria for inclusion. The article is not a place to put the text, and the letter is also a possible copyvio. It's now removed, thanks for pointing it out. However, that text is (was) not relevant to the discussion concerning the external linking of the yearbooks, keep WP:OTHERSTUFF in mind.
- "The yearbooks in particular are interesting because they are a photographic record of a time and place." certainly they are photographic records, but of Class of '75, '76 and '79, not Community High School Tehran, Iran — the subject of the article. There are tons of sites dedicated to the collecting of yearbooks, but Wikipedia is not one of them. jonkerz♠ 04:41, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
You are absolutely right about the dominant usage of this term, which is without a hyphen. I moved the article.--Lawrlafo (talk) 07:33, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for moving the page, as a non-native speaker this kind of subtle matters are pretty hard to get right ;) jonkerz♠ 22:03, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
tehran community school ( Reprise)
Hello Jonkerz:
Whether there are three editors or not doesn't change the the fundamental problem that some EL are legit and useful even if quibbling persists. Interesting. I think had you looked at the yearbooks you would have seen that all classes from 7th grade to 12 are represented, that is to say all students attending. These are not single class year books rather records of single years which include staff, teachers, busdrivers, and plenty of shots of crowds, buildings, etc. Have a look. I suppose you could argue that unless you have a book of all students who ever attended than any yearbook is necessarily an incomplete record and therefore ineligible for wikipedia. But I think that would be a dogmatic and inflexible view and one that lessens what could be known for a small lexical victory.
- In my opinion they do not belong to the article, but you may very well be right. After our long discussion I've partly revised my beliefs and would say the yearbooks are ok — feel free to re-add them if no objections arise on the talk page. Regarding the other links I'm not able to explain my reasoning in a more precise manner; if you have any objections to keeping them unlinked we would need to consult a WP:THIRD. There is a noticeboard for this, WP:ELN. If needed you could bring the discussion up there, but I hope we have reached a settlement of this matter. jonkerz♠ 21:43, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Apparently you have not seen any of these books, otherwise you would not have removed the Category "Copyright Law" from the page (I restored it). The front matter of each book extensively discusses how U.S. copyright law relating to film has evolved over the past 100 years, and how it applies to using public domain film on a practical basis. When you have had the opportunity to read the latest editions of each Film Superlist, if you still believe they do not relate to copyright law, please contact me with your reasons.Aardvarkzz (talk) 08:51, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, if you didn't notice the article is already in that category by being tagged with Category:Copyright law literature, a sub-category of Category:Copyright law. I removed it to avoid overcategorization, and it should be removed again. jonkerz♠ 09:01, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, sometimes Wikipedia has too many categories, so I removed it again. Does Wikipedia have a committee that consolidates redundant categories?Aardvarkzz (talk) 19:11, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, Category:Copyright law really needed to be diffused. There's no specifically designated noticeboard or XfD, etc. that I'm aware of, I guess this kind of discussions goes on articles' and user talk pages as most other stuff. Cheers, jonkerz♠ 00:11, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to check the DYK nomination for this; this is just a comment, for your information.
You said it was "a few hours more than 5 days", but actually it was not; you need to check the actual date it went live, not the creation of the page - especially important for articles created via AFC or as userspace drafts.
The article was made live at 19:26, 12 July 2010, and I submitted the DYK at 20:30, 14 July 2010. Cheers, Chzz ► 17:28, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, I assumed 12:25, 9 July was the date, since it was so close to the five day limit. Decided that a few hours wouldn't matter (maybe it does?) I forgot to look for moves. It was my one of the "first days on the job" as a DYK reviewer ;) I'll be more careful in the future. Cheers, jonkerz♠ 02:38, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your kind note re. my nomination of the article for a DYK. I have never felt very comfortable with the guidelines for DYK's (it's all a bit much for my ageing brain!). I must really go over the rules and guidelines sometime but I won't be able to do this before November when I am due to return from a long trip in India (I leave next Wednesday). Most of the time there I will be in the mountains and out of internet contact. So, if you can make the requisite changes to the DYK application I will be very grateful indeed. This mudslide isn't just affecting the County of Zhugqu. Even though it's the worst hit. It's effecting the whole province of Gansu.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 21:45, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, with the same number of casualties I suspected it was just another name. I've now removed the db template and will wait for other editors have their say. Maybe the articles should be merged under the name 2010 Gansu mudslide? Oooups, now the conversation in in two places, I'll send over a copy of this message to the talk page and let anyone respond there. jonkerz♠ 21:53, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Replied on talk page of the Gansu page.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 22:13, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

You're stalking me! :o
And putting your categories all up in my articles. :P Thanks for that, by the way. SilverserenC 23:14, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Haha sorry about that, I didn't mean to stalk you. Actually only I stalk Special:NewPages and then went over to stalk Subspecies of Canis lupus, which you're "stalking" as well ;) Great Canis articles by the way, I believe the ssp article could be moved to a list and then nominated for a WP:FL, at least after the last few subspecies pages have been created. If you for any reason don't feel like self-nominating it, just give me a shout, cheers, jonkerz♠ 23:25, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, after I finish up the last few articles, we'll have to see about adding in some info on the list, like appearance of each species, since a lot of the articles have them, but the list itself doesn't. But, sure, after i'm done with all of the articles, that sounds like a great idea. SilverserenC 23:32, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
WEll the problem is i live in the community and if i have to get a road sign picture to prove it i will. its just south of M-81 n west street and the only reason it doesn't show up because its not a village or major town, it doesn't even have its own zip code but there are enough diffrences between cass heights and cass city that they sould be kept as seperate articals. 63.27.166.152<3 05:32, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for adding the mark up code to Battle of Ratsua so that the citations would click through to the References. I have never seen that before, but its great. I will add it to my other articles. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 08:27, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Happy to help! Just a quick notice: another cite template,
{{Citation}}
, will produce the|ref=
parameters automatically, but a lot of people prefer to user{{Cite book}}
and{{Cite journal}}
and so on and manually adding the param. Also, a work with multiple authors may be piped in the{{harv}}
template, like this — it will auto-format the note Harvard style and also add the anchor code as displayed in the diff. I guess it's a matter of choice which way to do it, but that way ("ref=CITEREF" + author1 + author2, etc + year) is the way the{{harv}}
template will produce the|ref=
. By the way, great, well-referenced article! jonkerz♠ 08:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)- Thanks for this information. Cheers. AustralianRupert (talk) 14:27, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Chōzaburō Tanaka
Hi, jonkerz. I reverted your edit on Chōzaburō Tanaka. The books were published under the name of "Tyôzaburô Tanaka". And interestingly, the name "Tyôzaburô Tanaka" is dominant in his works. The title name was originally "Tyôzaburô Tanaka" but someone moved to "Chōzaburō Tanaka". I thought restoring the name, but I just added the description "or often Romanized as Tyôzaburô Tanaka". Google Book and Scholar search results are as follows:
Regards, ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 09:04, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- No worries, you're probably right regarding the name, I've no knowledge about romanization of Japanese, so I trust you. I was just going through my older created articles and looked for stuff to fix and (erroneously) saw an opportunity to harmonize the name.
- Since we're on the topic, this was actually the first article I created on enwp, and remember how I got a kick out of you finding he article hours later and brushed it up and added content etc. It meant a lot at that time when I was a complete newbie ;) thanks for that. jonkerz♠ 09:22, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for notifying me on my talk page about the nomination. Unfortunately I will not participate in the AfD since I've no knowledge in the topic and only swung by the article to do some gnomish work. But thanks anyway, jonkerz♠ 00:14, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Hello. You recently added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this, see e.g. [1]).
I've only removed the reference, not the original text it was referencing. A lot of similar references have been removed as they are circular references; many other editors have also been duped by these sources. Despite giving an appearance of reliability, the name "Webster's" has been public domain since the late 19th century. Another publisher to be wary of as they reuse Wikipedia articles is Alphascript Publishing. Fences&Windows 00:09, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing this to my attention and cleaning up after me, I didn't know this about Icon Group International. I noticed you've removed almost all Icon Group references, well done! Thanks for that as well, jonkerz♠ 03:18, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Marking as Patrolled
Hi, It seems that you have been spending some time patrolling the New Page section. I and the other members of WP:RCP really appreciate your efforts, but as you review articles, make sure you are marking them as patrolled. If you need info on how to do this, leave me a note on my talk page. Thanks! Bped1985 (talk) 07:46, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Hm, now I'm lost. I'm using Twinkle for WP:RCP, so the pages should be marked as patrolled automatically. Comparing my contributions with the patrol log for all of February I can only find one page CSD tagged without it being marked as patrolled at the same time (that page is Ben lind, marked as patrolled one minute later by another user). Is it that page you're referring to, or are we looking at different logs? Curiously, jonkerz♠ 08:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- Update: I guess you're referring to this one [2]. That one I forgot to mark when adding the 2nd CSD tag; it seems like TW don't mark pages unless you click your way to them from the patrol log. Next time I'll remember to mark re-creations as well, thanks for the notification. jonkerz♠ 13:01, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
