Conflict-of-interest; link canvassing
[edit]Hello, Jnyssen. We welcome your contributions, but it appears as if your primary purpose on Wikipedia is to add citations to research published by a small group of researchers.
Scientific articles should mainly reference review articles to ensure that the information added is trusted by the scientific community.
Editing in this way is also a violation of the policy against using Wikipedia for promotion and is a form of conflict of interest in Wikipedia – please see WP:SELFCITE and WP:MEDCOI. The editing community considers excessive self-citing to be form of spamming on Wikipedia (WP:REFSPAM) and the edits will be reviewed and the citations removed where it was not appropriate to add them.
Finally, please be aware that the editing community highly values expert contributors – please see WP:EXPERT. I do hope you will consider contributing more broadly. If you wish to contribute, please first consider citing review articles written by other researchers in your field and which are already highly cited in the literature. If you wish to cite your own research, please start a new thread on the article talk page and add {{requestedit}} to ask a volunteer to review whether or not the citation should be added.

Speedy deletion nomination of Adigrat Sandstone
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Adigrat Sandstone requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007%2F978-3-030-04955-3. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:25, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

File source problem with File:ImbaKernale1936.tiff
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:ImbaKernale1936.tiff. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. - Hello Diannaa, I have seen your earlier messages regarding plagiarism issues. Hence I did my best to reword the texts of this lemma. Admittedly I did not go into the lengthy Wiki texts on copyright because it looked unpalatable. Now I went more into detail and read about close paraphrasing and substantial similarity - I fear that the sections I wrote fall under those definitions. I wonder however, how strong the similarities are - I guess that you have an automated system to track such similarities; can such reports be availed? I will rework the texts thoroughly, using additional sources. Yet would it be possible to return the original, so that at least I can reuse part of links and references? Greetings Jnyssen (talk) 14:47, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

[edit]As reviewing administrator, I almost listed the article for deletion as primarily advocacy, but instead, since he may be notable as an author or professor, I removed the very extensive amount of advocacy from this article, leaving only the dscription of his career and list of publications . Please do not restore what i removed. It does not matter how laudable his intentions and correct his ideas. Advocacy is advocacy, and we do not do it in an encyclopedia . I find it most regrettable that you should seek to get your way by edit-warring. The normal cycle is BOLD (that was your first edit) - REVERT (that was me) - DISCUSS (the "BRD" cycle). You have replaced discussion with combat, which is disruptive. I will start a discussion on the talk page now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:53, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
BTW your travel photographs are splendid. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:32, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry, I thought to initiate a discussion in this way. What are the steps to start a BRD discussion? Jnyssen (talk) 10:04, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
(I do hope that this is then the correct way to initiate a discussion?) Hello, I just was in the supermarket and thought it would be a good illustration. With regard to apparent brand, I agree with you - would it be an option to take it in the hand and cover the brand's name (in this case Delhaize) when taking the photo? Jnyssen (talk) 10:23, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. No, I don't think that would be enough; the branding and trademark will cover the whole design of the packaging. For a discussion of the image, that would be here or on Commons. For a discussion about any article, that would be on the article's talk page, but I already started one for Sustainable agriculture. I expect the image will be deleted for the reasons given, so the best thing now would be to remove the image from any articles it is in really. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:06, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

A few tips: try to avoid using bullet points in articles and write in prose as much as possible. If there is excess amount of information on geology for a given area, consider creating an article specifically on the geology of the area. Geology of xx Woreda etc. The main articles are really intended to have a balanced, well written overview of the district without going too much into depth on any given topic. Thanks!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:41, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

The article Afedena school has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
non notable primary school
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}

Reliable sources to add Ethiopian perspective to Gondrand massacre?
[edit]Hi and thanks for being an ally in the never-ending struggle to achieve a neutral point of view on topics related to Italian colonialism in Africa. I know that it can be a slog sometimes.
I've recently had to disengage with a (shall we say passionate?) IP on the Talk page of the Gondrand massacre article. I'm hoping to reboot the conversation and invite other voices to join in, especially those who are active in WikiProject Ethiopia and WikiProject Africa. But I'm also wondering more specifically if you have or know of any good sources that tell the narrative of the Gondrand massacre from an Ethiopian perspective, or just give helpful context beyond what's already available on pages like Second Italo-Ethiopian War?
Thanks again for being a collaborative voice. Generalrelative (talk) 22:33, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry I am not a historian, and I am afraid no Ethiopian historian has ever studied this. In that war there have been so many killings, this one was just picked out by Mussoli's propaganda; and a die-hard on wikipedia to continue maintaining that tale. If this Gondrand massacre would deserve some attention it is because it is an illustration how war propaganda works. There are hundreds of massacres in Ethiopia's war history, unfortunately none of them documented...
- Just to give you the state of the art: not any historian has ever been to the places that were attacked with mustard gas by the Italian army; no one ever researched or documented this from point of view of the victims. I happen to have the aerial photos and maps at hand that the Italians used to prepare these gas attacks. Could never spot a historian that was keen to research such bottom up history. Soon there will be no direct witnesses left of these war crimes. Jnyssen (talk) 04:37, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's informative. And good point about this article being more an illustration of how propaganda works than anything else. I hope that a new generation of bottom-up historians will emerge (along with funding from universities) to redress the situation, but I suppose it wouldn't be wise to hold my breath until it happens. Generalrelative (talk) 10:37, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi Jnyssen, thanks for your recent edit at Gondrand massacre. It inspired me to seek out and find some helpful new sources, update some mistaken information, and create a new section on Italian efforts to publicize the events. I did feel I had to cut your comment comparing it to Bloody Sunday (1939), since I believe it ran afoul of WP's policy against original research (WP:OR). Unless you know of a reliable secondary source that makes the connection? If so I think it would be really valuable to put it back in along with a citation. Generalrelative (talk) 03:52, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, sorry, that was too fast to publish without sources. These 4 sources all address the "Gondrand massacre" in the wider frame of Italian fascist propaganda. I'll place them in the discussion of the article, but no time to work on it now.

Articles on schools
[edit]Hi I’m a new page reviewer and I wanted to contact you about six articles you created about schools in Ethiopia back in April. These articles have been left in the queue unreviewed for an unusually long time, because.....they’re unusual. We don’t automatically consider schools to be notable. All schools are likely to have some local coverage. In most countries they are also covered in reliable independent sources such as school inspectors’ reports. These aren’t sufficient however to support a stand-alone article. The articles you created rely on reports about sanitation and while they give us an unusual level of detail about school sanitation, those details don’t really add up to notability.
I’m therefore going to redirect the articles to the articles for their local towns. If more details become available about the schools at some time in the future, the redirects can be undone and the articles restored with new material added.
Please don’t be discouraged by this and thank you for continuing to create articles about Ethiopia. All the best Mccapra (talk) 17:41, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
Are articles on schools only allowed for rich countries?
[edit]- I totally disagree with your deletion of articles on village schools in Ethiopia. Thanks to the sanitation reports we can illustrate the situation of some schools in developing countries. And the articles hold much more information than sanitation only. For schools in, say, England you are not harsh like that. See for instance this list of schools in just one county: List of schools in Surrey; most of them have their own page on Wikipedia! And such is the case for almost every district in the UK or US. So, Wikipedia will allow pages for schools of rich countries, but not schools of poor countries? I will now revert the deletion of one of these schools, and open the same discussion there. If no convincing arguments can be brought, then all pages for these schools need to be restored.Jnyssen (talk) 04:35, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Why you deleted the contents under the "background" thread of Transitional Government of Tigray?
[edit]Dear Jnyssen, it is not clear why you deleted the contents in the Transitional Government of Tigray. You said that it is not related to Transitional Government of Tigray. But, I believe that content you removed tells why and how the transitional government has been born. But you removed it without any notice. I need more clarification about your action. [edit]War crimes documentation must be preserved properly
[edit]hi Jan. In your external role as a Wikipedia-notable person, it seems that you are one of the very few people who (so far) have published reports based on reliable contacts with victims of the war crimes and crimes against humanity that have recently taken place in Tigray Region but have received almost no media attention (Adigrat, Hagere Selam, Maryam Ts'iyon). I strongly recommend that you try to convince the survivors and their support networks to properly (securely, with backups) document their testimonies and consider other aspects (patterns of crimes and linkage to commanders) of future legal cases. The short-term interests of Wikipedia differ from the long-term interests of survivors (although the long-term information will eventually get into Wikipedia if war crimes trials are conducted).
Despite the trauma that the survivors are undoubtedly suffering, the long-term (3 years? 10 years?) interests of justice (and psychological closure of survivors) require that the survivors prepare high-quality documentation that can stand up in court. Suspected war criminals, even when human rights organisations have been convinced of their guilt, have been acquitted by the ICC due to insufficiently strong cases by the prosecution (innocence is presumed until/unless guilt is proved beyond reasonable doubt). A recent discussion in relation to the Belarusian situation states, "In order to avoid the fate of the victims of Maidan, Belarusian protestors must do more than protest... Protestors and victims must document both the acts that may constitute crimes against humanity and those that clarify the context... the patterns of those crimes and the linkage evidence that illuminates how they are... commanded... This is no easy task... However, as the Maidan experience shows, it must be done."
While universal jurisdiction for war crimes and crimes against humanity appears to have been greatly weakened in Belgium, in Germany it is being actively used, especially for the Syrian civil war ("suspects can be prosecuted even though both they and their victims are foreigners and the crime itself took place abroad"). An ICC investigation would normally require consensus among the UNSC permanent five, since Ethiopia and Eritrea are not party to the Rome Statute.
Obviously, the time frame to Wikipedia documentation of trials for war crimes and crimes against humanity for the current Tigray War will undoubtedly be long. But better that it happen late than never. Boud (talk) 15:23, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, and thanks for the clear note. I will forward your note to some people who have started working on that. Myself am very busy with the Tigray war, publishing articles[1] and coordinating an appeal for humanitarian aid.[2] I even do not find time to write for wikipedia. - Hello Discospinster, obviously, the photographs are on Wikimedia Commons, but there, they are not organised thematically. The copyright issue in itself is an issue for Wikimedia Commons. Part of the photos were indeed uploaded through "Twitter to Commons" and source is acknowledged. And then, indeed, there are also a few photos with missing evidence of permission. Am trying to get it fixed. If not, these photos will be removed from Commons, but that will not affect this "Photo Article". It boils down to the question whether Wikipediawe can publish photographic reports, in which a set of galleries are thematically organised?Jnyssen (talk) 04:47, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Content doesn't verify (Demographics)
[edit]Some content which you duplicated into the demographics sections of 7 woreda articles and the region article (and in one woreda which Rastakwere copied and added) doesn't verify with the source. The source is about Dogu'a Tembien, which is a woreda separate and distinct from the other 7 woredas, and which also does not represent the entire Tigray Region. I am leaving the first instance and removing the other 8.
