FYI

[edit]

Hello J. Regarding your edit summary I wanted to let you know that some of the line is used in a scene from act one between Mrs Cheveley and Robert Chiltern. At one point Mrs C says ..."Sooner or later we have all to pay for what we do. You have to pay now. Before I leave you to-night, you have got to promise me to suppress your report, and to speak in the House in favour of this scheme" I hasten to add that I think your edit was correct. Whoever added that line was using WP:SYNTH to give a sense of what they interpreted the meaning of different parts of the play to be. I'm only mentioning it as I am a bit O/C about Wilde's works having read them so often over the years. The info might also help in the unlikely event of any push back against your edit. Thanks for your work and cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 01:13, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, MarnetteD. Thank you for all this! Before making the edit, I did search the Gutenberg text for pieces of that line and somehow didn't find it (while I did find the other line). But this isn't the first time Gutenberg's text search has let me down, so I'm definitely going to be on my guard for that in future. Jcejhay (talk) 01:26, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome J. I did have the advantage over Gutenberg of having watched the 1999 film a few weeks ago to commemorate OW's birthday. It does diverge from the play at times but I still like it. The performances are superb. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 02:35, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Susquehanna County demographic data

[edit]

Hello, did you see my message on Raindrop73's talk page? Many many of this user's edits were adding minutiae about Pennsylvania subjects (especially schools) that is completely non-standard for any other similar articles for other places around the world. I'm systematically going through this user's edits and removing unencyclopedic additions they've made as I find them. I'm not removing *everything* they've made ... but as a rule, most of their additions were completely unhelpful so I'm removing most of the text they've added. Teenage pregnancy rates/live birth rates are not routinely recorded on a county level on Wikipedia for any other places than the ones that Raindrop73 has touched ... and we'd need good secondary sources showing why they are important for a particular place to even think of adding them like that. Systematic cleanup efforts for prolific disruptive users have certainly been done before; see, for example, Wikipedia:Sheynhertz-Unbayg cleanup and criterion for speedy deletion X1. In the particular case of Susquehanna County, it turns out that I actually did remove a bit too much text as explained in this edit summary; as I said there, I put the relevant text back. I've checked my other edits from around that time and can't find any other similar problems. Graham87 14:37, 12 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me where you see Gunn's signature as you allege here. I'm seeing the signature of JMF at lower right, below where the woman's dress meets the floor.

April 2023

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Donald Albury. I noticed that you recently removed content from Philip Wylie without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. My mistake, I misread the watchlist. My apologies for the reversion and for placing this notice. - Donald Albury 19:51, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Thanks

My pleasure! As you and I know, catching and fixing those unreflectively sexist treatments of women's names is so very important. Jcejhay (talk) 23:41, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions to give more and better background for Weird Barbie

[edit]

Hi, Jcejhay, although your idea is good, a complete paragraph to Weird Barbie and other discontinued dolls' background is too long, especially if a later part of the plot contains that the Barbies' societal system was wrong and mistreated these dolls. It's not a crucial part of the plot to justify the discontinued dolls' predicament in an earlier paragraph. Let's just stick to the main course of the plot. Thank you for your understanding. Ertonien (talk) 12:08, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ertonien, Jcejhay and I have had extensive conversation about the edit you unilaterally reverted, which explicitly said: see talk page. Would appreciate it muchly if you'd go there and engage as you should have in the first place. Thanks. Xan747 ✈️ 🧑‍✈️ 19:57, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, @Xan747, first of all, sorry that I didn't respond to your request in the first place. I understand that there are certain matters that needs to be discussed among editors, and yes, every editor has the same right to highlight something in the article if they want to. But it does matter how these affect the structure of the plot. I noticed sometimes editors use clauses that just repeat the meaning of an already written main clause with synonyms. They even ignore the warning that is placed at the top of the plot section. Of course, you're right, these kind of issues needs to be discussed in the talking section, so I'll try to pay more attention to that in the future instead of just reverting things without explanation. Ertonien (talk) 17:35, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ertonien, apology accepted with thanks. Jcejhay has withdrawn from this discussion, so we really should continue it elsewhere. Cheers. Xan747 ✈️ 🧑‍✈️ 17:59, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
