Welcome to WP. I hope you enjoy editing. Kudos for engaging on talk when you have questions about editing. The most important advice I can give is sources a good read of the Identifying reliable sources guideline will greatly facilitate participation in the project. As you are already aware of talk pages you are a good step ahead, when making edits that may be controversial a mention of what you are doing on talk is of great use. It will also provide a forum for you to support your edits. Please have some patience with the community, unfortunately contention and strong points of view are sometimes not well and reasonably argued. The strongest arguments are based on policy and sources. You may want to take a look at some of the WikiProjects based on your area(s) of interest. I am active at WP:WikiProject Medicine and the WP:Fringe theories/Noticeboard. Nomination of 2007 Columbus Crew season for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article 2007 Columbus Crew season is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2007 Columbus Crew season until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Amortias (T)(C) 00:53, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there JAY, from Portugal,

please, leave the SC in Columbus' name out of the infobox, for compression purposes. The full name will still appear in the storyline and the introduction, so no problem there.

Attentively, happy editing --Quite A Character (talk) 15:16, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • See? The administrator below told you the same thing, plus i'm willing to reach a compromise (unlike him) and leave the full name in storyline and only compress the box. I give up either way, i leave the article in peace because i don't want to make an edit war out of this. --Quite A Character (talk) 19:59, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You misinterpreted what he said. It had nothing to do with "compression purposes," and you failed to address the issue I brought up. Jay eyem (talk) 20:09, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. Which is it (i did incur in a potential misunderstanding when i said the admin "told you the same thing", i admit that, i meant to say he also reverted you) --Quite A Character (talk) 20:47, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Gastón Sauro. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism can result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. GiantSnowman 17:06, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused. There appears to be a precedent set regarding using "Columbus Crew SC" in the infobox rather than "Columbus Crew." Look at every other player other than Sauro and Pedro Santos, who should have had it labeled as "Columbus Crew SC" in the first place. That is what it has been colloquially called since the name change, intended to differentiate itself from the origional team name. See Kei Kamara's infobox as an example of what I'm talking about. Jay eyem (talk) 19:33, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you need to address the issue that has been raised at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Clarification_for_Club_Names_in_Infobox before just reverting my edits as vandalism. It is not vandalism, and is not a violation of either of those WIkipedia policies that you mentioned. Please confront the problem directly rather than going behind my back, reverting my edits, and threatening to revoke my editing privileges. Jay eyem (talk) 17:10, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I think Ben Mines first playoff goal is notable also Gonzalo Veron scoring in the last match ever at RFK and his first mls playoff goal, can you add that back? Going forward i understand the notability aspect but since these are unique cases can you undo the changes?

thanks

Seeing as I, and the rest of the community, disagree with your assessment (including admins), I will not be adding back the text. The only reason I haven’t reverted the edits at Ben Mines again is because I’m trying to avoid an edit war. You need to bring these arguments up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football. Speedy deletion declined: 2012 FC Tucson season

Hello Jay eyem. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of 2012 FC Tucson season, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: for regular events held by notable entities, significance is presumed. Your MfD

Speaking of these, per my close at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Draft:Wyatt Omsberg, these kinds of pages can usually be redirected or tagged for a history merge without coming to MfD. ♠PMC(talk) 19:18, 1 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of my post

[edit]

Hello. I am wondering why you removed my post on Portal:Current events/2020 February 7 about an Anti-Vax group causing a boy to die. You used the Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not as your reason to remove the post. I would like to discuss this with you. I consider it to be just notable enough to get a mention on the page, because an Anti-Vaccination group, using Facebook, convinced a mother to basically kill her son. Fully Professional Leagues - a gender perspective

[edit]

There has been a lot of discussion over various football task forces about the relevance of applying WP:FPL to Women's teams and Women's players, as this guideline was set up principally for Male players, Male teams, Male competitions. Currently there are only 2 countries with Women's leagues listed as fully professional (England and USA). Therefore to apply this guideline strictly - using Male criteria where professionalism started developing decades earlier - we need to remove literally THOUSANDS of articles for all female soccer/football players who have not played for their national teams, who have not played in the 2 leagues deemed professional. I invite you to research this further and look at these discussions. Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't so much for discussion, more as information/education. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:26, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well the place to discuss the issue is not in the various task forces either, but on the guideline itself or the project itself. I have seen no discussion exempting women footballers from this criteria. Jay eyem (talk) 03:35, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Non-registred IP user who keeps deleting female players from Midfielder article

[edit]

Hi, hope all is well. I issued a warning on said IP user's page, and they still attempted to remove the information of female players on the wiki midfielder article even so. This had already been going on repeatedly, as you know as you have reverted their edits, so this seems to be a clear case of vandalism at this point. Would it be possible to block them at this point? These are the only edits they have ever made on wikipedia. I think we should consider blocking them because of this; I don't have the authority to do so, but would you know anyone who could, because this has become very frustrating. Thanks! Best, Messirulez (talk) 19:09, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Messirulez: I would wait to see if it happens again first, just because they were not directly given warnings before on their talk page. College soccer articles

[edit]

Just wanted to clarify, once a team qualifies for the NCAA Tournament (men's or women's) then a season page is justified per NSEASONS? I noticed some historical ACC articles that I've created have been getting re-directed and just wanted to understand the outcome of the conversations. Thanks Swimmer33 (talk) 15:52, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to double check because I've made all the season articles for the 2021 ACC season, so I guess I should stop doing that because at the end of the season, when some teams don't make the tournament, they will be re-directed. My general practice had been to make them before the season and keep them updated as the season progressed, but I suppose that will have to change. Swimmer33 (talk) 16:16, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Swimmer33: I think that's fair. My personal opinion is to wait until the NCAA tournament teams are announced before these team season articles are made, just because I think making the tournament gives it that extra little boost of notability. And that's not to discourage any work you've done, I've seen the articles you have made they do look good, I just think we should focus on being consistent with Wikipedia's guidelines. Cheers! Jay eyem (talk) 18:19, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'll wait before creating further soccer articles then. Are you going to re-direct the pages for the season in progress now or should I keep updating them until the NCAA Tournament gets announced? If you're re-directing, I believe there are also some women's pages that need to be re-directed. I've created FSU, UNC, Duke, UVA, Boston College, and Clemson. Maybe for this season we'll just wait till the tourney gets announced and then re-direct appropriately. Swimmer33 (talk) 18:28, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Super League @ Current events/Sidebar

[edit]

As far as justification for what sports items to include on the sidebar, I would suggest starting with comparing the total views of the WP articles for the relevant leagues. Farolif (talk) 23:44, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm I suppose I see some validity in that. Alternative proposal: using the leagues with the highest revenues as a cutoff. These are the largest leagues in the world and won't have a bias towards English-speaking or English-adjacent nations. I suspect that most of the larger leagues that have lower pageviews in English is likely due to use in their own native language. If anything, that makes a more compelling argument to shorten the list than make it longer. Jay eyem (talk) 00:39, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If we go by total revenue as the main indicator, then should remove Campeonata Brasileiro. According to the list you've referenced, they take in less money than the major leagues in China, Russia, or Japan, and we aren't including any of those. Not to mention the current season article's pageviews on English WP are comparatively low. Farolif (talk) 18:25, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me, I'm sure the primary viewers of that league primarily use the Portuguese page anyway. Plus the 2022 MLS season just ended yesterday, can probably go ahead and remove that as well. Jay eyem (talk) 22:31, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Whpq: woah wait, what the hell?? All I did was use the previous article as a reference, and there hasn't ever been any copyright issue in the past for these kinds of articles, so why is this one an exception?? Jay eyem (talk) 16:09, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The format of the draft, which was a substantial part of the article was a verbatim copy of the source. You can't do that, even if you cite the source. If you have done this for other articles, please identify them so that they can have the copyrighted text replaced with a rewritten section that doesn't copy the source text. Thanks. -- Whpq (talk) 16:30, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Whpq: I have only been using the previous year's draft article as a template while replacing the relevant information per year. It looks like the other affected articles are 2020 MLS Expansion Draft and 2021 MLS Expansion Draft judging based on their similarity to what I added to the 2022 page, but I imagine every expansion draft would have used a significant amount of information from the league sources. I genuinely don't mean any harm here, but with any sort of possibility of getting blocked for this, I don't think I will be touching these articles anymore. Sorry if what I said came across poorly. Jay eyem (talk) 16:55, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You aren't going to get blocked for a good faith effort to create an article. I encourage you to continue to contribute to these articles. I think you understand you can't copy the source text. Thank you for listing out the articles. I will have a look at them. -- Whpq (talk) 17:39, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just rewrote the "format" section of 2020 MLS Expansion Draft. I suggest that you use that as a guide, and give rewriting the "format" section of 2021 MLS Expansion Draft a try. It would be good practice for any future articles on MLS expansion. Let me know if you are going to give a go. If not, I will do a rewrite. -- Whpq (talk) 19:18, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Rutgers Scarlet Knights men's soccer seasons indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 03:46, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bad attitude

[edit]

Hi, is it okay if I can just ask you if you think Fa30sp's manner and attitude is acceptable. Personally, he seems to lack respect when writing his comments. Should he be told to speak and write a more respectable fashion or am I overthinking it? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:02, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I forgot to say, he is now calling people useless, which is disrespectful. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 21:04, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ILoveSport2006: I would certainly describe the edit summaries for their edits on 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and 2029 FIFA Club World Cup as disruptive and uncivil. Since this is otherwise a content dispute, I want to avoid taking the issue to WP:ANI if possible, but we will see if it continues. Jay eyem (talk) 21:11, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bro hahahaha if u think I lack respect when writing you need to come talk w/ me, so we can clear up the situation. Because that's not my intention here!
But u act like a child coming in other users talk page to cry!
Come on bro hahahaha, help me help you! Fa30sp (talk) 04:13, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Taken to WP:ANI. You can discuss the matter there, not on my talk page. Jay eyem (talk) 04:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
