Hi! Thanks for the feedback on my edits on Rob Davies. I'm not sure how far you can interpret the example info-box on the Player MoS. One thing seems certain; writing the full name (including e.g. F.C.) or not seem to vary from taskforce to taskforce. I personally think that there are good reasons to shorten club names in the limited space within the info-box. As you're probably aware of there are a lot of long full names in Spain and across the latin world (e.g. RS Gimnástica de Torrelavega, Universidad de Las Palmas CF, Associação Académica de Coimbra - O.A.F. and Club Social y Deportivo Defensa y Justicia). Writing full names works better with British clubs, who more often are at the clubs' common name. Concerning the italics, I only did what we usually do on Italian, Spanish and South American players, but it's not really an issue for me so if it's an important thing for you just lose the italics. Sebisthlm (talk) 20:29, 22 February 2008 (UTC) P.S. It seems that including the F.C. or not are at best uncertain judging by this discussion. Sebisthlm (talk) 20:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I rarely edit English articles on the other hand, hence the "culture clash"! I didn't give the shortening of WBA enough thought, because I actually knew they're called West Brom rather than West Bromwich (that's what they're called in Football Manager...). After all, it's a British player so I think you have the final say. Have a nice weekend! Sebisthlm (talk) 20:58, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you posted a WBA team photo on the 1912 Cup Final page. I've updated this page using a couple of online sources and the Guardian review of the game. I plan to right a summary of the replay in the next couple of days. The photo really helps lift the page an it would be great if you could add anything on the WBA side. --Gmac101 (talk) 12:54, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Good luck in the draw - Perhaps we'll get a repeat of the 1912 Final line up!

Hi, this is a page that a group of us have been trying to improve. It is currently rated as a Start page and various things have been down to upgrade it to a B or Good Page. We believe this page is now very informative and well structured with useful headings. More pictures have also been added and we now believe it is not far off the standards of pages such as Ipswich Town F.C. and Arsenal F.C.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Officially Mr X (talkcontribs) 23:37, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar. Plenty of work still to do though! I've scanned about 7,000 articles and I've still got 4,000 left to check. And that's just for players from the UK and Ireland! Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 00:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

By the way, should that be "(loan) ranger" or "(loan) ranger"? ;-) Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 00:19, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
To be honest I don't have any football reference books. I keep promising myself that I'll buy some, but never have. My birthday's coming up, so maybe that's an idea for the family... Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 00:32, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't suppose you can remember the titles of the two books, can you? Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 19:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Cheers. Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 08:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Was the other one this one? It's the only other one I can find on the website, but it seems to have had mixed reviews. Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 10:18, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for all your help. Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 18:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again! Was it The Wednesday Boys: A Definitive Guide to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club? It's by the same author as the Hillsborough book. If not I'll try phoning the club shop tomorrow. Thanks, Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 18:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I've found a small image here. Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 19:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I thought so, it looks like a nice book. Thanks again, Dan1980 (talk ♦ stalk) 19:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

How bout you tell me how you know for a fact that the information that I provided is false. Any person that knows Garth Crooks would also know that he is clearly capable of eating several bags of flour. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.42.150.57 (talk) 11:46, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey thanks for your comments at the FLC, I've addressed the captions and hopefully there less repetitive now, if you could have another look when you have time that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers NapHit (talk) 22:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Jameboy, you recently removed a hyperlink I added to the page for York City Football Club. During the summer, when York City are no longer playing league games, their players are eligible to play in the aforementioned Four Nations Tournament. Information on the Four Nations site will allow the reader to find out more about York City FC. Please re-instate the hyperlink or explain your reasons for contnued removal. Thanks, FooMed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Foo-med (talkcontribs) 11:28, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Comprehensive long lists‎ discussion

Hello, I noticed that you took part in the recent FLRC for List of Arsenal F.C. players and thought you might be interested in participating in a new discussion. The FLRC was closed as no consensus and it is clear the the issue of incompleteness in longer FLs is not over, so a discussion page has been started here. Please feel free to comment. -- Scorpion0422 21:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Theo de Raadt

Theo (Google results) I actually looked up Theo in the hopes of finding information on the OpenBSD creator. The point is disamb. pages is to help people find what they are looking for. As such, Theo should be listed on the page. Also note that Theodore, Theobald, and Theodosius are all disamb. pages but also serve as an index of well known persons. Deleted article

I wanted to create titty as a redirect to breast, but noticed that it was previously deleted (by you) as "patent nonsense". Could you explain why this is not a valid redirect? Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 00:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't redirect when I deleted it, it was recreated from a prior deletion and contained a single nonsense sentence. Looking further back in its history, it was originally a redirect to breast, then redirected to tit in August 2006 (edit summary indicated it was more appropriate than redirecting to breast) and ultimately deleted by another admin back in September 2006 before the recent recreation. I don't know the particulars of that deletion, but I don't suppose I would have any objection to it being redirected to tit. Dreadstar 16:48, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Zoltán Gera

Dear Jameboy!

I'm a hungarian wikipedia editor. I saw that you made articles about West Brom. I wrote the Gera article in huwiki, please see this: hu:Gera Zoltán (labdarúgó). So this article english version had a little problem. Some user correct the club apparences to wrong data. Read this: Talk:Zoltán Gera#Club apparences. I would like to ask your help, if continue this mistake. Do you manage to Gera article will be semmi-protect? I thak this, if it will be necessary.

Thanks a lot: Warmuz ¤ talk 15:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I try to help in the Gera article, first I made the stats. But my English isn't very good, I have lot of grammar mistake. So I can't write text for the article. Unfortunately I don't find images for the article. I send at least 5 e-mail to the WBA, but they never answer. Could you help for me? I think, you maybe you know somebody there. I send this mail: hu:Wikipédia:Engedélykérő szabványlevelek#A fentebb szereplő szabványlevél angol fordítása. Anyway I ended the hungarian article 4 or 5 days ago, currently there is on peer review. Best regards: Warmuz ¤ talk 15:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Ha, no problemo! As a rule of thumb I find Englandstats to be very reliable, so I don't know where the date of January has come from. Kind regards, GiantSnowman 16:05, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Edit of Page

Hello! I am in much wonder why user:Jamesboy has revert one of my recent edits. The edit was adding a series to a title link. I feel title links are important as they help readers find desired pages easy. Could user:Jamesboy expand on comment. Please post comment on page in question disc. to question changes. Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jangaroo (talkcontribs) 12:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

A friendly request

Hi there Jameboy, VASCO here,

On April 27, you asked if i wanted to join WikiProject Football, which i very much appreciated, thank you very much!

On that subject, comes one explanation and one request:

  • Explanation - I don't think i will join "the force", i am seriously thinking about leaving WP, due to the everpresent VANDALISM and insertion of rubbish in the pages (and don't get me started about vandalism in SPORTS man, it's just a losing battle; they keep, according to their sporting colours or beliefs, ALL sorts of stupidity, when not SERIOUS INSULTS towards the given subject, and i think it is too much for me JAMEBOY, i seriously do. Anyways, and again, ty very much for the invite, in about 2 years of "Wikiwork", the most friendly thing someone ever told me, and that leads to...
  • Request - There is 1 member of WP Football, don't know if you know if, called MATTHEW HK. About 1 year ago, he accused me of inserting defamatory info (and several other people have accused me of vandalism too, when in little less than 2 years in the site, i have done NOTHING but contribute solidly, don't know if it could be a mixup due to the fact i don't have an account) into JOHN MOSQUERA (colombian footballer)'s article, which i DID NOT (just by checking edit history you can see that, it's SOOOO EASY!). I send a couple of messages trying to clear things up, and got ZERO X 10000 for an answer, that is to say, nothing...Last week, we (or he) started an edit war about WENDER (brazilian footballer), reverting hard work and links i inserted, apparently JUST BECAUSE...I send him 2 or 3 more messages and got EXACTLY THE SAME ANSWER ("talk to the hand"). I know he understood what i wrote because in his talkpage it says "user with INTERMEDIATE level of ENGLISH". My request is, could you send him a message (i still don't know if you WIKIWORK together or not, just wondering)

and ask him what his beef with me is/might be? In any case, i think it is not very polite to stay silent when being talked to, but he would know...

Still definitely wondering about leaving WP 4 good,

  • From Portugal, have a great one, man,

VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 17:46, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

I think your best bet - if you decide to stay - is to create an account. That way you won't receive other people's messages by mistake. If you have a problem with a particular user I'd recommend contacting an administrator (or the talk page of the relevant wikiproject) rather than me. I'd prefer not to get involved without knowing the full story (sorry). --Jameboy (talk) 18:58, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Its true, ive been a season ticket holder at leicester for 10 years and everyone involved with the club knows this. I can understand what you are saying but its not 'non neutral' as 285,000 people think this !!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Curtbob7 (talkcontribs) 19:49, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

apologies! There are at least 10 people who can access this computer, but I have a good idea who is the WBA fan/hater or, it would seem, a mixture of the 2. This won't happen again —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.17.253.102 (talk) 01:28, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
