[edit]On 15 December 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Monsters Among Us, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Monsters Among Us. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Alberta MLAs
[edit]The thing about the Wildrose defection, at this point, is that the PC caucus still has to meet to decide whether to approve the crossing — so as unlikely as it may seem, the possibility does still exist that the PCs will decide to reject some or all of them. Also, right now the sources are in conflict — some sources are saying that Pat Stier is one of the crossers, while others are saying that he's not. So for the moment, we need to wait for the PCs approval, so that we know for sure (a) that it's happening at all, and (b) who it does or doesn't involve. Bearcat (talk) 18:12, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Messed up election template
[edit]Hi Jack, could you look at Results by riding of the Canadian federal election, 2015 and Template:Canadian federal election, 2015/ns and see if you can fix what I just messed up. I was on the results by riding article that listed each provinces candidates, and clicked edit at Nova Scotia to add the result of a nomination race and it worked fine in the template but it's not showing up on results by riding page, and I can't figure out how to change that. The results by riding article is still showing the nomination candidates. I'm asking you for help because I looked at the history and seen you have made a number of edits to the Nova Scotia template. Rae Ministry
[edit]I modelled the Rae ministry on the Hepburn Ministry template. I don't think that the standards for templates applied to the federal level are appropriate at the provincial level. Provincial ministries and ministers change names and people much more often than at the federal level, at least in Ontario. Even though Rae's government lasted only one term there was at least one, maybe two major cabinet shuffles and numerous minor ones. A list of names can hardly capture that. Also there are many more templates for individual ministries at the federal level than for the provincial ones. I believe the Hepburn format gives a much more intelligent summary than the ones you've setup for Harris and Eves. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 19:45, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

You seem to be under the mistaken belief that Anandasangaree is the successor of Sitsabaiesan. Firstly, when electoral districts are re-distributed we don't generally include predecessor/successor in info boxes (see Stephen Harper). Even if they are, Anandasangaree cannot be considered to be Sitsabaiesan's successor. Sitsabaiesan's old seat, Scarborough—Rouge River, was split into two but the largest part (71%) went to Scarborough North, and only 29% went to Scarborough—Rouge Park. Sitsabaiesan contested the 2015 federal election in Scarborough North. So, if you are going to include a successor in Sitsabaiesan's info box it should be Shaun Chen, the winner of the election in Scarborough North. Similarly, the largest part (49%) of Anandasangaree's seat Scarborough—Rouge Park came from Pickering—Scarborough East, with only 36% coming from Scarborough—Rouge River (the remaining 14% came from Scarborough—Rouge River). So, if you are going to include a predecessor in Anandasangaree's info box it should be Corneliu Chisu, the previous MP for Pickering—Scarborough East.--obi2canibetalk contr 15:58, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. [edit]Please note that a woman is not added directly to a "Women in (Province) politics" category if she's already in that same province's "Women MLAs/MHAs/MNAs/MPPs" category; because the latter category is a subcategory of the former already, a person doesn't need to be filed in both of them simultaneously with each other. The article David Olmstead has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. New article Serge Geoffrion
[edit]Saw the new article Serge Geoffrion and searched for typos (my specialty). Didn't find any, but I wonder about "for the no committee". I would think it would be better to frame the 'no' with single quotes, as otherwise it reads strangely? That doesn't help you much with the article, though, and someone has already tagged it... I edited the template to add a candidate for Calgary Heritage, but it doesn't copy over to the article it appears in, nor does the party name show as a link, even though there is no apparent link verbage and punctuation for the ridings that do appear as links. Deleting categories
[edit]If you make a category by mistake such as Category:British Columbia New Democratic Party candidates in Britich Columbia provincial elections the best way to proceed is to request deletion using {{db-self}} rather than merely blanking it which then means someone else has to come along and db-self it... By-elections
[edit]Just a quick note for you about by-election results: we can't source them to Twitter tweets. We're not in a race to be the first source of "breaking news", so it won't kill any of us to wait 15 or 20 more minutes until the Globe and Mail or the CBC have actually posted a real news story to their website — but we can't rush the article off a tweet, because tweets aren't acceptable sourcing. Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Jack Cox. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Steph Lynn Robinson, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Fylbecatulous talk 18:49, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

A page you started (Jennifer McKelvie) has been reviewed!
[edit]Thanks for creating Jennifer McKelvie, Jack Cox!
Wikipedia editor SshibumXZ just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:
Hi! Per WP:NPOL, only people who occupy top-level positions at the national and state (or any other top-level subdivision) levels are guaranteed inherent notability. So, McKelvie would have to satisfy WP:GNG and I am not sure as to whether he does.

City council
[edit]Just to be clear, Toronto City Council doesn't work like Parliament or a provincial legislature. The body isn't dissolved before the election happens, and the new councillors aren't immediately considered the new incumbents as soon as they're declared elected — through the remaining week of October and all of November, the outgoing city councillors are still in office and still doing caretaker work (committee meetings, etc.) So we don't update {{Toronto City Councillors}} right away like we do with the MP or provincial MLA templates: the outgoing councillors stay in the template until the new ones actually take office in December. Bearcat (talk) 14:01, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
I'm aware, I think it was more, so I could know where the officials were in whatever area and so that it could be prepared. We can simply revert on December 1, 2018.--Jack Cox (talk) 14:03, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

City councillors
[edit]Please don't add a date to the term_end = field in a city councillor's infobox until that date has actually arrived. The presence of any date at all in that field, even if it's a date that's still in the future, automatically turns the "incumbent" flag off, and there's no other way to restore it — so even though the date on which their terms will end is known already, as long as they still are the current incumbents the field has to stay empty so that the incumbent flag stays on. US governors & lieutenant governors
[edit]Howdy, Jack Cox. I think you're pulling the trigger too quickly concerning US governors & lieutenant governors. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. RonBot (talk) 17:06, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:TheProvinceAdrianDix.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:TheProvinceAdrianDix.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:48, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Edmond M. Hanrahan
[edit]A tag has been placed on Edmond M. Hanrahan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
see WP:1S
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. The article James J. Caffrey has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
