Hello, JJMC89,

Your bot seems flawless but for some reason, this category was moved without moving the pages that were categorized in the previous category. Is there any way to fix this other than manually? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:53, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Liz. Moving the contents of stub categories requires editing the corresponding template(s) then waiting for MediaWiki to "move" the pages (or purging if you're impatient). Admins are supposed to handle such cases manually instead of listing them for the bot since it will not update the templates. Good Olfactory took care of {{Curaçao-sport-bio-stub}}, and I just updated {{Curaçao-weightlifting-bio-stub}}. — JJMC89 06:31, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
Okay, a similar thing is happening with Category:Diving (acrobatics) biography stubs. So, each stub needs to be changed, individually? Liz Read! Talk! 21:04, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
@Liz: Once the stub templates are edited, then it is just a matter of waiting (or purging all of the pages). I've purged the contents of that category and the related ones that are at listed WP:CFDW. — JJMC89 07:32, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

About a removed NPR (-patroller)

@JJMC89: Hi, good day! I would like to directly report to you an editor, whom you have removed of patroller role, due to multiple inappropriate draftifications, cut/paste moves, and inappropriate CSD. Seems like User:Spiderone haven't learned their lesson. He has explicitly draftified four of my recently-created articles:

Hilarious thing is he even tagged a non-official essay as basis for draftification. It is as if the sole source I have cited there is a non-independent and non-reliable one, which is untrue as those were not school websites — those were from the national basic education agency in the Philippines. I don't think draftification is necessary. The notability stub was enough. The article didn't even last for its first 24 hours before being taken on such action. I am supposed to expand the article and put another independent sources. That was unnecessary and unfair as well. Chances were not given. The created articles are with neutral point of view, without copyrighted contents and WP:COI. Personally, I look this one as an "insult" as the article were made in good faith.

I hope that this administrator looks into this matter. Thank you! ~PogingJuan 12:22, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

PogingJuan WP:NORG is absolutely not a 'non-official essay' and is, in fact, what all articles on schools should be required to meet. The source linked in all of these mass produced articles was just this which is woefully inadequate in meeting the relevant guideline for notability, which explicitly states that significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject. A search for each school does not yield any sources that show this level of coverage either, however, in good faith, they were sent to draft so that such sources could be found. I don't believe that any of the articles would pass WP:AfC in their current state and they are not suitable for main space. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 12:32, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
I will also ping John B123 for comment as he has also reviewed all of the nine school articles created in a short spell yesterday, many of which he tagged with a notability maintenance tag. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 12:41, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

It is doing as it is instructed after a WP:C2C request. If you want to contest that, then you'll need to talk to the admin that added it to WP:CFDW. — JJMC89 07:39, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Deletion of Bhupesh Bansal article

Hello @JJMC89

I have read A7 "that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant" and G11 too which says that it is promotional content and Wikipedia doesn't allow any type of promotional content. I don't know Bhupesh Bansal, every day I see posts of Rajnikant vs CID jokes (RVCJ) biggest content creator company made by Bhupesh. I didn't know about him but when I researched about him then I came to know his story and all media articles.

Bhupesh Bansal is an illustrator of the biggest content creator company named RVCJ. His posts are already viral all over India. Moreover, he has worked with other companies and Bollywood celebrities which shows that people have searched about him. I am not doing any promotional stuff for anyone just creating another page like I created others so that it can help readers.

I have created other articles too and I know the Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Just let me know where I was wrong and provide me your guidance so that I can create draft again with all reliable media links and submit it for review. Moreover, I had added reliable media links such as Midday, Deccan Chronicle, Asia Netnews, etc. Rajveer90 (talk) 05:38, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

You've already asked the admin who deleted it, which is the correct way forward. I don't know why you are asking me about it. — JJMC89 07:42, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Fair Use images

I five times expanded The Quiet Achiever article back in 2011 and shortly thereafter added Fair Use pictures. At the time my rationale and copyright tag used was that they were historic images. They are the first 3 pictures of the ones showing the solar panels. Can you tell me IF this is correct to be able to use more than one Fair Use picture in an article. I am thinking of upgrading the article to Good Article status and want to make sure this is alright. Thanks for your input.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:57, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

@Doug Coldwell: Using the first one for identification is OK. As the article is currently written, I think the other two should go. What part of the article would the reader not understand without them? That's the key question for criterion 8. — JJMC89 08:11, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

File transfer to Wikimedia Commons

Hey, should I nominate the files for deletion after I move them to the Wikimedia Commons? --Mhhossein talk 19:18, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

@Mhhossein: You don't need to nominate them at WP:FFD unless they have {{keep local}} and you think the local copy should be deleted anyway. Tagging them with {{Now Commons}} for WP:F8 is sufficient. — JJMC89 07:45, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the explanation. --Mhhossein talk 19:34, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Bot blocked

I've blocked the bot as I think it's making a wrong CFDS move - it has moved Category:Canarian footballers to Category:Footballers from Cantabria but these areas of Spain are separate (Canary Islands and Cantabria), so I think it should be moving Category:Canarian footballers to Category:Footballers from the Canary Islands? Pinging @Crowsus: who made the CFDS request. Once clarified I'll unblock. GiantSnowman 13:06, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Yep, these have been done the wrong way round, given that it has also moved Category:Cantabrian footballers to Category:Footballers from the Canary Islands. Once the moves have been corrected and the bot script is fixed we can re-commence. GiantSnowman 13:13, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Also courtesy tagging @Ymblanter: who added the bot request. GiantSnowman 13:24, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: I processed the CFDS (since there were no objections for 48h) and bot processed my request. In any case, it was my call, not of the bot, and the bot must be unblocked. I will now look at the objections, and, if the have merit, will reverse process them (for which, again, I need the bot unblocked).--Ymblanter (talk) 13:40, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Indeed, I see now that the request was screwed up, and I did not pay enough attention. Mea culpa. Will see now what is the best way to fix the damage.
I am obviously happy to unblock the bot, but I'm not comfortable doing so if it's going to start making 'wrong' edits again and make it harder to fix in the long term... GiantSnowman 15:23, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: it's not the bot, it's me, I see now I f*cked it up in the request and put them the wrong way around. Apologies, let me know if I can help in any way (although since I can't match up a few items in a list, might not be much use compared with folk who actually know what they're doing). Could it maybe all be undone for these 2 and I'll put in the request again? Crowsus (talk) 17:36, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
As soon as the bot has been unblocked it will undo the moves, and then I will process the categories in the correct order.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:08, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Bot unblocked. GiantSnowman 18:34, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Great, thanks. I will take care of the categories (though the files will have to be moved twice).--Ymblanter (talk) 18:41, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks - I'll leave it with you, and stop watching this page. Let me know if you need any help with anything. GiantSnowman 18:44, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Thanks, it should be completed by now. Let me know if you see anything irregular.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:44, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
@Ymblanter: Will do - quite a few affected articles on my watchlist but all seem OK! GiantSnowman 21:55, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Mass reverts

Hello JJMC89,

before you started you mass reverts of my edits, did you pause to recognize that all of them involve categories for which no main article exists, and at most one or two films? In the German WP (where I come from) such categories are always deleted, and I asked one of the experts here – it is at least unusual to create a category without a corresponding article. Another Admin here in the en-WP quick-deleted two categories which I had tagged with the same explanation "no corresponding article" – so you could have at least spoken to me before mass reverting. --Sprachraum (talk) 03:26, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

You are attempting to delete the categories out of process. I reverted your attempted backdoor deletion, including undeleting the ones that Anthony Appleyard inappropriately deleted. They do not meet any of the speedy deletion criteria. — JJMC89 03:36, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, my rephrasing crossed with your answer. I did not attempt a "backdoor deletion", at least not knowingly! So what is the correct process: leave all the films where they are and bring the categories to full discussion? --Sprachraum (talk) 03:57, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
Yes. You may want to ask if WikiProject Film has any general input on the matter first. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film#Emptying out Category:Films by director. (Thanks, MarnetteD) — JJMC89 03:59, 8 March 2021 (UTC)
You are welcome J. Enjoy your week. MarnetteD|Talk 04:10, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

deletion of Ernesto Kahan

Lists of mammals by location

Hello, you closed the CfD, so I would like to ask you a general question about categories. Is it necessary for an article to be both in a general category and its subcategory? I know that some articles should, like Category:LGBT writers is a non-diffusing category of Category:Writers. But should an article like List of mammals of the Azores be in both Category:Lists of mammals by location and Category:Lists of mammals, or just the first one? And are the continent subcategories, like Category:Lists of mammals of Europe supposed to be just include article that are also in Category:Lists of mammals by location? If so, what's the point of them? Thanks —Naddruf (talk ~ contribs) 18:17, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

Generally, a page should be in the lowest category(ies) in a tree that applies. (WP:DIFFUSE) As you note, the exception is for non-diffusing categories. (WP:DUPCAT) I'd suggest discussing your specific questions at WT:CAT or WT:CATP where those more familiar can answer better than me. — JJMC89 00:41, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Light for the World (album)

Hi, Why did you make this edit made removing the image, stating "Removed WP:NFCC violation(s). No valid non-free use rationale for this page" when the image in question has a valid non-free use rationale? ----Pontificalibus 19:08, 12 March 2021 (UTC)

I didn't make the edit. At the time it was made, the rationale was for a different article than the image was used in. — JJMC89 00:43, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

I would like this AfD reinstated as I think it and the Category:American television stations with a three-letter call sign AfD did not notify or list WP:TVS or WP:WPRS, which would have brought more responses. Maybe against, maybe for. But, the respective groups should have been notified/listed. I respectfully request a full AfD with all members !voting. Not just four editors !voting or may or may not be TVS or WPRS editors. Thank you. - NeutralhomerTalk • 20:36 on March 12, 2021 (UTC)

That's a CfD, not an AfD. WikiProject notifications are not required. WPRS was notified on 4 March. — JJMC89 00:51, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Apologizes on the CfD/AfD goof....and you are indeed correct. I even follow that page and I missed it. :S Oy! Yeah, so.... Apparently WPRS just didn't care. :D Anywho, thanks for the prompt answer. Apologizes for missing both of those things. If you don't mind, I'm going to find a rock to crawl under now. :) - NeutralhomerTalk • 00:57 on March 14, 2021 (UTC)

File:Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite.jpg

Hi JJMC89. Would you mind watching User talk:Sammi Brie#Talk:Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite/GA1 a bit? JJMC89 Bot removed File:Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite.jpg from Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite, but the file is basically a duplicate of File:Elvis Presley Aloha From Hawaii LP Cover.jpg (there are some minor differences) and both might not be needed if it turns out that a rationale can be written for article about the actual broadcast. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:06, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, JJMC89,

I went to this user page and there is a message saying that a category needs to be created for Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of EditorF even though this editor is already in this category. I thought there might be a mistake in the sockpuppet tag put on the user page which I'm reluctant to fiddle with so I'm hoping you could take a look at it. If this is just some misplaced message a script I've installed is popping up, then my apologies. Liz Read! Talk! 01:52, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

I'm seeing the same message at User:Monikaaggrwal. Liz Read! Talk! 02:08, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
@Liz: The pages just needed to be purged to remove the message. GeneralNotability's SPI helper tagged those two pages before creating the category, so the message got cached there. — JJMC89 02:39, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
That's weird...it's supposed to purge user pages if it creates a sock category. GeneralNotability (talk) 03:06, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, if it's any consolation, GeneralNotability, I've only seen this situation once before. I can do a hard refresh but I'm not sure how to purge a page unless there is a convenient link that says "Purge" like on CSD category pages. Thanks for telling me what was causing the problem, JJMC89. Liz Read! Talk! 05:37, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Liz, Wikipedia:Purge has a few methods you can use to manually purge. Personally, I use m:MoreMenu, which has a purge button built-in under the "page" options. GeneralNotability (talk) 16:59, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Stupid idea?

I used to always salt at admin level, but for the last few months I've had a thought (I know, right?). Why not salt at ECP, so that if someone like, say, that IgniteIndia sock were to make 500 constructive edits just so they could create the deleted page/s (only to have them immediately re-deleted) — maybe let them...? Probably a dumb idea, though. El_C 22:37, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@El C: When salting, I usually use ECP, and it is common for other admins too. This is the default level when salting with Twinkle. — JJMC89 02:36, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
Oops, I conflated between you and Kinu (log entry) — sorry about that! El_C 02:40, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Phillip Berrigan deletion

Hi JJMC89, As I understand it, the Sandbox is where an editor prepares an article for publication. I was only using the Berrigan photo for placement until I get permission from a copyright owner for one of my subject. I am a bit astounded by this. I thought it was all private until finished, but if you can see it so can everyone else. One lives and learns - which is a good thing, I suppose. I guess I will have to prepare stuff offline in the future.Gladiator-Citizen (talk) 05:09, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page watcher) Hi Gladiator-Citizen. There are placement images uploaded to Wikimedia Commons (see c:Category:Image placeholders) that you can use in your user sandbox if you want, but you should wait until the draft you're working on has been approved before adding any non-free content to it. In fact, I wouldn't upload any non-free images for the draft until it's been acceptable because they will be deleted per WP:F5 if they aren't being used. Finally, you might also want to take a look at WP:REALWORLD since there are pretty much no private pages anywhere on Wikipedia and anything you post anywhere can be seen by anyone who looks at the page; moreover, even if you remove what you post, it can still be "seen" so to speak in the page history. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:23, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Hemiauchenia

Howdy - not that I have any peculiar dog in this fight or dealings with the editor, I just happened to notice in passing... isn't it a little extreme to indef a highly productive editor with no previous issues, then choke off their talk page access so that they can't even ask for a review? Was whatever they did really so extreme that you are justified in kicking them off the project without even an explanatory note? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 14:15, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

I will not get into the specifics due to privacy issues. I had an oversighter review my block of Hemiauchenia off-wiki. In any case, they appealed their block, and I have unblocked them. — JJMC89 17:19, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Deletion of taxonomy templates

There are at 20 odd articles screwed up right now because you deleted two taxonomy templates: Template:Taxonomy/Aeridostachya and Template:Taxonomy/Porpax. It's one thing to automatically delete articles created by banned users, another to delete templates used by articles created and edited by others. Can I ask you to please check for template transclusions in future. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:34, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

That was my bad. I've undeleted them. — JJMC89 02:55, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Recent redaction

Given this new ArbBom ruling [2], it would seem appropriate to have the material you redacted from the relevant article and talk page restored. Can I ask you to do so? AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:35, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

The material that I redacted was suppressed after that, so I could not reverse that. — JJMC89 03:11, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Further to this, you should probably read Beeblebrox's comment here: [3] AndyTheGrump (talk) 02:14, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Winterysteppe

Could you please take a pause from nuking that sock's creations? Many, many pages you deleted had significant contributions by other users, making them ineligible for G5. Sro23 (talk) 18:35, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Do you have any specific examples? I took a quick look through my deletion log and didn't see any that were reversed aside from the two templates mentiond above. — JJMC89 03:04, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
Well, I tend to be more conservative when it comes to G5ing, but there's Acianthera acuminatipetala, Pleurothallis latipetala, Begonia thyrsoidea, Rossioglossum ampliatum to name a few...it would take too long to individually check every page, so I think the best course of action would be to speedily restore a page if a non-sock editor requests undeletion, but otherwise do nothing. Sro23 (talk) 16:48, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Conservative in the United States category

Hello again, I wondered if you were to look into the Category: Conservatism in the United States as it seems to be overcrowded with multiple individuals in the same way as it was last year when the American Conservative people category was? Thank you. NihonBlue (talk) 05:32, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, JJMC89,

Your bot seems to work exceptionally well with CFD cases. In rare situations, I have found there can be a delay of a few hours or a day between deletion of a category and the removal of that category from pages. Do you think this is what happened with Category:Forgotten Realms locations? Or were there issues because all of the pages are redirects? Again, I think this is part of the 1% of times when there are problems with the bot. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 23:26, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Liz: The bot did nothing wrong here, as the redirects currently in that category were deleted at the time the category was merged a year (almost to the day) ago. They were recently undeleted by BOZ, who didn't cleanup the now-redlinked categories. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:57, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh, my God, I've been looking at so many page histories today, I didn't notice that it was deleted March 27, 2020 and not March 27, 2021! So close! You seem to catch my mistakes, Pppery. Good eye. Well, never mind, JJMC89, maybe BOZ can take care of this. Liz Read! Talk! 01:04, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
No problem, sorry about that! BOZ (talk) 03:24, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Introduction please

Hi JJMC89 (redirected bot?),

Can you please introduce yourself and then perhaps you might explain why you are removing content in my sandbox? Is there some rule I am unaware of that I have fallen foul of (I am new to Wikipedia, so that, very possible)?

ETA: I just looked at the relevent rules section. so yeah, OK. So how do I indicate in my sandbox article - that I will propose as an article to replace the existing one (on the invitation of LuckyLouie / Hob Gadling) - that (removed) content is to be placed there? I mean, how can I submit for review content that is permitted in an article, but not permitted in the actual submission? Sorry, I am a bit confused about this.

Thank you for your consideration. Regards, Tesldact Smih (talk) 02:53, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

I didn't remove it. The non-free images were automatically removed because non-free content is only permitted in articles. (See WP:NFCC#9.) You could use a placeholder image to indicate where you would put the non-free images or just leave them out until it becomes an article. — JJMC89 03:09, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you JJMC89. I appreciate the tips and advice.Tesldact Smih (talk) 08:45, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
