submitting on behalf of another user

[edit]

You can put a user= parameter in the submit template. This will cause the review notices to go the user you designate rather than to you. Maybe you already knew this and just forgot in the case of Draft:Pierre O'Rourke, in which case I apologize for the unneeded advice. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:50, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maxmoefoe page

[edit]

Hey, I just made a page for maxmoefoe on my sandbox but I seem to be having trouble submitting it. Could you possibly read through it and see if there’s any issues, since you seem to active on other YouTuber’s articles and this is my first one. Thanks. Ducktech89 (talk) 11:32, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ducktech89 I've move it into draft space (but it's not submitted yet for review). The problem with your draft is there are youtube and twitter sources in it and those are unreliable sources (and primary sources to boot). Please read WP:RS for what sources you can use and read WP:RSP for what sources you can't use. You should find sources from newspapers, books, magazines in particular. The wrestling section draft sources are fine but maybe a few more up there wouldn't hurt. When you've fixed these issues, I'll submit it for you. JC7V-talk 15:28, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve tried to find reliable sources, but I can’t find many. I mainly just used things Max has said and used those as sources, but there’s no completely stable source stating where he's from, his age just Wikitubia and things of the like. I just had to sort of connect the dots. Ducktech89(talk) 12:05, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ducktech89 Hello, for Maxmoefoe, on google search there are some references from reliable sources you can use for the draft on him but they are mostly of the passing mention variety (which doesn't establish notability). And another reference to him from the Daily Mail which as a source is blacklisted. If you can't find reliable sources to show that he meets WP:V or to show he meets WP:GNG or any of its sub categories, it means he unfortunately isn't notable enough (at least now) for inclusion. To see what type of sources you need for the Maxmoefoe , see Jenna Marbles's article. She is also a youtuber like Maxmoefoe and yet her article clearly shows notability and the sources provided meet WP:V. Good luck and you are on the right track. I've also split the drafts into two separate drafts since you had Dave Finley III and Max's draft together as one draft which is against policy (I missed that during the user space to draft move). JC7V-talk 00:51 (updated), 23 October 2018 (UTC)

What I'm trying to get at is if Maxmoefoe is trurly notable enough for inclusion, you should be able to find some reliable sources to backup things like where he's from and his age (for the most part.). Check out PewDiePie's article. There is a Washington Post reference to his dad's job, a Rolling Stone reference about his childhood etc. It maybe a case of too soon for Max. New Page Patrol

[edit]

Hi there,

I got your email and I'm happy to help. While we don't really have a school as such, I'd be happy to help with any questions you might have. I'm available via chatting on my talkpage of course, and I'm also often on the NPP discord channel ([1]). Your CSD log does look quite good, and I think if you went to PERM right now you'd be approved on that alone, so feel free to apply whenever. I'd suggest checking out the list of gadgets and scripts located here: Wikipedia_talk:New_pages_patrol/Reviewers#Full_recommended_gadget/script_list and installing them, as they are quite useful to NPP and AfC, both before and after the userright. My timezone is UTC (United Kingdom), so currently heading off to bed shortly but I'll be available tomorrow if you want to chat. Cheers, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 21:31, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest spending a bit of time over at WP:AfD. It is the single best place to learn the notability guidelines though and through, and always needs more help. I'd start with older discussions that already have a few !votes. This is probably the most productive way to get up skilled. The only other suggestion is to slow down a bit, be a bit more careful, and always explain yourself in edit summaries as much as possible (which helps eliminate confusion when you make mistakes). Hope to see you at NPP sometime in the future. Always available for a second opinion though. Cheers, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 21:38, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Shel5136: Hi, thanks for asking me about it. I just added some sources to the draft to improve it. I am not reviewing it because I can't really tell if it should be accepted or not. When another reviewer accepts, declines or comments further on your draft, you'll be notified. You are free to keep working on your draft in the mean time to find better sources and more sources. Cheers. JC7V-talk 18:33, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi JC7V7DC5768! Thank you for paying attention to my request for help. But so far nobody has told me whether it is notability or not. I will be very grateful to you if you can say your opinion, regarding its notability, whether I should write such articles or not. Thank you! Aspireforintelligence (talk) 21:43, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Aspireforintelligence: Hi, a non admin AFC reviewer (like me) can't accept the draft since it is moved protected. While I am glad that you seek feedback, you are forum shopping (asking various editors to review the draft instead of waiting for it to be reviewed the natural way) and that's frowned upon here. Wait for a reviewer to review your draft and if it is declined, follow the advice he or she gives you in the decline/comment section. Thank you. JC7V-talk 22:02, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. I understand that you cannot move it, but you can appreciate it for notability, for example in this comment, that would be enough for me. Aspireforintelligence (talk) 22:32, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
:: @Aspireforintelligence: Whether I believe the subject of your draft is notable or not doesn't matter since the only thing that matters is if the reviewer who reviews your draft thinks it is notable for inclusion. I appreciate your efforts and you seem like a good writer. If your draft is declined ,don't leave the site ,but read WP:ANYBIO and WP:GNG and find subjects which clearly pass at least one of those criterias and that you want to write about. Also you have to write your draft in a NPOV sort of way. If it's biased, even if notable it will be declined. See the template in the decline of your draft from the 25th to see what I mean. Cheers. JC7V-talk 22:51, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I do translations articles often, and sometimes I try to write. Here's how in the latter case, my article was checked, and when I turned to the administrator for recommendations, he transferred it to a draft, believing that I was getting paid for the work. I explained that it is not. He agrees to remove the protection if someone also considers the article as Notability. That's why I asked you to rate my article. But it looks like everybody is angry. Thank you for explaining to me why this is happening. Aspireforintelligence (talk) 23:48, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Aspireforintelligence: We're not angry, you just have to wait until a reviewer reviews your draft and either accepts or declines it. If its a decline, you have to follow the advice in the template that is used for draft declines. JC7V-talk 00:16, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ValentinaLombardo

[edit]

Hi, you just reject my page (Valentina Lombardo) i read your guidelines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_(music) And seems that the subject is notable because follow the criteria 4 in the paragraph "Criteria for musicians". (LA STAMPA one of the most famous italian newspaper) LINK: https://www.lastampa.it/2017/09/20/torinosette/eventi/la-pianista-valentina-lombardo-alla-chiesa-di-s-pelagia-fzZM5yDlYdCtzQ9mVmqLyL/pagina.html Can you approve the page? thanks (Valelombardo (talk) 16:53, 6 November 2018 (UTC))[reply]

  • @Valelombardo: Hello, thanks for reaching out. While that maybe a reliable source, it is not enough to show notability as it just an announcement of one of Valentina's concerts (ie it's routine coverage). To show that Valentina is notable enough for inclusion, the should mention Valentina a paragraph or more and be independent of her. A story or in dept review of one of her shows for example would be something to show substantial coverage from a reliable source. See this article's references for the type you need to show in Valentina's article. Work on these issues and fix them, resubmit and someone will review the draft again .Cheers. Hello,

Recently you have deleted a draft on Ganesh Chandrasekaran citing notability. I went through the references and the person is largely notable with this debut film where he has collaborated with leading artists. Further there are many references where he has been mentioned, not just passing references. As a wikipedian, I request you to go through his profile and consider a submission. Here is another reference I have found on his name.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.5.212.118 (talk) 15:09, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for reaching out. The article on Ganesh was deleted via a deletion discussion about 2 months ago and since the Ganesh draft was identical to the Ganesh article when it was decided upon by consensus to be deleted, it had to be declined. You can keep adding sources (somewhat more than a few) to ithe draft (WP:RS and WP:IS ie reliable, independent sources) and let another reviewer review it which you should do so it won't be declined again . Good luck. JC7V-talk 16:15, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion contested: Genevieve Clarke

[edit]

Hello JC7V7DC5768, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Genevieve Clarke, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Remove G12; the aaforringer page is a mirror of Jessica Alba, where this content is copied from, and a "lack of attribution" is not enough for G12 to apply per WP:CSD. Replacing with G3. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Thine Antique Pen (talk) 20:37, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RM/TR and page mover right

I see you close some RM discussion, but you also list some discussion outcome in WP:RM/TR. So I hope you request page mover rights in WP:PERM to reduce these kinds of listings and these mean less arguments in WP:RM/TR, thanks Hhkohh (talk) 08:12, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ref: Nizar El Fakih

[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for reviewing the article submission of Nizar El Fakih. I appreciate that a lot.

I'm curious about the two things you commented: 1) Drop the high amount of quotes and 2) Trim the interviews and collaboration the subject has had with the media.

I've always thought that everything I write in Wikipedia must come from a proven or legit source, so why you suggest I should drop the amount of quotes? How should I do it? Which criteria you recommend me to use when doing this?

Then, about trimming the interviews and collaborations... why you recommended this? How should I do it?

Thank you very much for your time.

Alams. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.82.146.211 (talk) 13:43, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for reaching out. see WP:QUOTEFARM. While some quotes are fine, long quotations or too much quotations crowd up the article/draft and take away attention to other info Sometimes it better to summarize the paraphrase . Also you want as many independent sources as possible (see WP:IS. Interviews by the subject maybe good for verifying certain things but for notability establishing, you should go for sources which speak about the subject without him being interviewed, sources that aren't press releases (ie a newspaper article about a controversy the subject was involved in, non routine story(s) about the subject etc) If you need more help see the Help Desk. Good luck. JC7V (talk) 15:56, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stop draftifying junk

[edit]

I've noticed a few problems with article you are draftifying. Let's take Draft:Alice Kimball Smith. First of all, it is completely inappropriate to move this article to draft with the summary "Undersourced, incubate in draftspace". This is obviously not the issue with this page, and using false edit summaries is problematic. Second, the criteria in WP:DRAFTiFY includes "do not draftify junk". This article should have been deleted under CSD A3. It contains nothing but the title repeated as its only content. This is not the only page I've come across today that you have drafitified erroneously. Natureium (talk) 04:04, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your concerns and NPP. Alice Kimball Smith was notable (per searches and criteria) that's why I draftified it. I've fixed the draft up and moved it to mainspace. For Photographic communication, I left the author a note on their talk page asking them to rewrite it in a way to meet Wikipedia's policies. I was going to CSD the draft under G11 if they didn't begin to do so in 3 days. I wouldn't have used 'not an essay' as my CSD criteria in the CSD because CSD doesn't really apply to essays since failed criteria says What Wikipedia is Not articles/drafts aren't really eligible to be deleted under CSD. So I wouldn't have used 'multiple criteria' in my CSD tag of it. Also see User_talk:Sgflowers1#Deleted_page, I was basically giving the user the same advice as Shalor gave to the author, though unlike Shalor, I was going to CSD it in 3 days if it remained promotional. You can see me Draftify log for more on this. I guess blowing it up and starting over right away was probably the better method (ie your way), so I guess that's something I'll look into in the future. My CSD log is filled with more than a few articles I've CSD'd under A3 and G11. With photographic communication, I saw what Shalor saw in it. JC7V (talk) 19:27, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, some drafts (or draftified drafts) start out as spam/promotional but eventually became more and more encyclopediac as time goes on. JC7V (talk) 01:17, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The actual issue with the draftification was that you put a student’s project into draft space 3 minutes after it was created. I know that students aren’t technically graded on the articles they write, but let’s use some common sense here: it makes us look bad and deprived a student of the ability to do something on their own.
Also, on your later point, we delete spam when we see it, even if it is notable: something cannot pass WP:N if it fails WP:NOT, which includes NOTSPAM. We delete spam, we don’t try to make a better advertisement. TonyBallioni (talk) 01:36, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
TonyBallioni, In my comment above your comment, I was simply agreeing with something that SoWhy said last month at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion here Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#G11s_in_Draft_Space . I just didn't communicate it the correct way and if I gave out any other impression with my comment above, it wasn't my intention and I apologize. JC7V (talk) 06:47, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
While SoWhy is a dear friend, he an I do often disagree. In that discussion, while I actually do agree with his broader points re: fancruft, which I don’t think qualifies for G11 and I think many people mistake for spam, I strongly disagree with the idea that actual promotional content created with solely promotional intent can be saved, and draft space should not be used as an attempt to save it. If something is promotional but doesn’t meet G11, AfD or PROD are appropriate, especially if it’s borderline or less notability. Sending it to draft for more socks to work on or recreate (which is what happens) helps no one. Natureium’s point, as well as mine, is that taking crap that should be deleted and putting it in draft space to be deleted in 6 months does no one any favours. TonyBallioni (talk) 07:00, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bread Charity page

[edit]

hello can you help me make a page for our charity — Preceding unsigned comment added by M8ms2 (talkcontribs) 08:43, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

M8ms2, Hi, i'll repost what I said in the decline template to help you with your draft. "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of organizations and companies). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia." "Need more sources, ones that are reliable ,independent. See WP:RS or drop me a line and I'll point you in the right direction." . To summarize, add sources from newspapers, books ,magazines independent of the subject and non Prish that mention Bread Charity in a paragraph or more (ie more than in passing). Three or more of these sources at minimum. Please follow the above advice on your draft otherwise it will be rejected again if you resubmit it without fixing these issues. Good luck. JC7V (talk) 22:16, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide independent, more than in passing coverage

[edit]

Could you please see some additional cite added and see that such coverage is passing coverage! Thank you! Inntoday2018 (talk) 16:34, 25 November 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Inntoday2018 (talkcontribs) 16:32, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Inntoday2018, Hi, another reviewer will review your draft to see if it is notable enough to be accepted (I don't review the same draft twice). Sometimes companies are notable but the draft doesn't show notability with the sourcing and so it's declined for those reasons so I will let another reviewer tell if the sourcing you provided shows if the company is notable or not. In the meantime you can keep updating your draft. A paragraph or more in a independent reliable media is the type of significant coverage in a source that shows notability. New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi JC7V7DC5768. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Minor user rights can now be accorded on a time limited or probationary period, so do check back at WP:PERM/NPR in case this concerns your application. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encylopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance. so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion.  Swarm  talk  00:13, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Your Call Football

[edit]

On 5 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Your Call Football, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the interactive game Your Call Football allows participants to call real-time plays in games featuring some former NFL and CFL players? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Your Call Football. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Your Call Football), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hello there JC7V7DC5768, I wanted to talk to you about my edit that I have recently made. However, it is my first time editing something. The content that I removed is the following: (Lewis has also pioneered the field of onion dildonics, inasmuch as sex toys can be insecurely connected over the Internet.) NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

[edit]

Hello JC7V7DC5768,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Hello JC7V7DC5768! Thank you for notifying me about the discussion re the EclecticIQ page. I have added 5 reliable sources (1 book, 3 academic journals (IEEE, ACM, Elsevier), and web link to UK Goverment). Does it meet the Notability guidelines now? Mvoorzanger (talk) 09:49, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know that you deleted the entry I had written for Nicholas Le Pan. I've been trying to figure out how to officially contest the deletion and I haven't been able to; I am the opposite of tech savvy! So I'll make the argument to you here.

I can see why you might think what I wrote was too close to promotional, and I'm a great believer in including both sides of the picture. Honestly, it's hard to find published criticism of what Le Pan has done over the years, while there is a good deal of praise. (I'll paste in as a postscript an excerpt from another piece, from the Financial Post.)

That said, I have now looked a bit harder, and I think there ARE some things that could be said on the other side. Specifically-- In paragraph 2, you could add the following: ...for many years specialized in tax policy. He played an influential part in the recognition by the Canadian government of tax expenditures as an integral part of budgetary policy, and a key component in any assessment of principles of fairness in taxation systems. He was also part of a team that was widely criticized for creating a tax system that was too generous to wealthy Canadians.* with this as the reference: See, for example, Linda McQuaig, Behind Closed Doors: How the Rich Won Control of Canada’s Tax System, 1987.

Further down, I think it would also be fair to revise the discussion of the role he played internationally, as follows: In addition to tightening oversight of Canadian financial institutions during his tenure as OFSI head, Le Pan played an important role internationally—though arguably with less success. During this period the international community was formulating a new set of rules and requirements for banks, formulated by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. The 2004 Basel Capital Accords (Basel II) have been criticized for setting capital requirements for financial institutions too low, and thereby contributing to the worldwide financial crisis of a few years later. At the time Le Pan served as Vice Chair of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, and as Chair of the Basel Accord Implementation Group.

I should clarify my own position here. I am Nick's brother, and I discovered a couple of months ago that he did not have a Wikipedia entry. I thought he should have, as he has been a hugely important player in shaping Canadian economic policy for decades. So I researched and wrote the article; I did not consult my brother, and nor have I showed him what I have written--either the original material or these two proposed revised passages. We're actually not particularly close, but as I say I do think the role he has played merits a significant Wikipedia entry. I hope you'll re-instate the article, with the added ( more critical) passages added.

Don LePan

PS The difference in spacing in the last names is not a typo. Our father (Douglas LePan) was inconsistent in the spelling of his last name, though more often than not he spelled it with no space in the middle. That's always been my preference too, but Nick prefers to spell "Le Pan" with a spoace in the middle.

PPS Here's one more thing on the role he played in minimizing the impact in Canada of the financial crisis--in a 2012 Financial Post article about his successor as head of OSFI, Julie Dickson:

https://business.financialpost.com/news/what-canadas-banking-watchdog-and-dr-doom-have-in-common

At finance, [Dickson] worked with Nicholas Le Pan, her eventual predecessor at OSFI. Dickson joined Le Pan at OSFI in 1999. Their time has been marked by a more hands-on approach after the regulator received additional powers to intervene quickly with troubled lenders. That period also featured the introduction of “real dialogue” with executives and company boards, which has been one of the system’s strengths, said former Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge, who was deputy finance minister between 1992 and 1997. “It’s not what Julie has done since 2007 and 2008, it’s how things evolved with Nick and her as the leaders,” [former Deputy Minister of Finance and Bank of Canada governor David] Dodge said. “That’s what stood us in good stead when things started to run into trouble in the spring of 2007. The strength was to not get into trouble in the first place.” — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don LePan (talkcontribs) 01:49, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don LePan, Hi the article was deleted for being promotional, see WP:NPOV , WP:WTW and WP:G11 for more on why it was deleted. If you rewrite it ,follow the guidelines for doing so in regards to not being promotional. JC7V (talk) 02:26, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on your talk page JC7V (talk) 21:11, 26 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JC7V7DC5768,

Looking at the definition of WP:NALBUM, this is the criteria that "Overlord" clearly meets:

"Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent from the musician or ensemble who created it. This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, magazine articles, online versions of print media, and television documentaries[note 2] except for the following: Any reprints of press releases, other publications where the musician or ensemble talks about the recording, and all advertising that mentions the recording, including manufacturers' advertising. Articles in a school or university newspaper (or similar), in most cases."

The draft page for Overlord included multiple published reviews of the kind listed above. I would repeat them here but I can't access the draft version of the Overlord page since it was deleted and changed to a redirect. My old links no longer work. Sorry to be a noob, maybe there is someway I can still access it?

There are also MANY online reviews for this same album, and it is a big gray area what constitutes a legitimate/illegitimate online review for a heavy metal music release. I see no objective standards listed on Wikipedia for this and this is an issue that is very subjective IMHO.

Thank you and happy new year! AirWave II (talk) 16:33, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response and help sir. All the best to you and your family in 2019! AirWave II (talk) 17:29, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

$ to donuts

[edit]

Hi. Can you please give elaborate and give more of your reasoning in the closing statement for moving $ to Dollars. There were numerous examples given of symbols being used in article titles (&, #, etc.), so consistency seems to be towards leaving the title as $, the film's actual name. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 23:09, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Randy Kryn, The supports were more convincing than the opposers and their arguments were more policy oriented. I spent hours studying those arguments and thinking on them and that's what I got. JC7V (talk) 23:27, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
SMC's argument was more convincing than any of the oppose arguements:

"Support Dollars (film) per previous RMs that led to Pi (film), Gangsta (manga), etc.; we've been over this before. The fact that the movie is called Dollars (not Money or Dollar Sign or anything else, other than its UK title The Heist) when said aloud, and often in writing, is close enough to a common name. Remember that WP:COMMONNAME is not one of the WP:CRITERIA at all; it's simply the first choice to select and test against those criteria and other policies and guidelines. In this case, $ doesn't really pass them, and this character can be a problem in URL strings. Using "$ (Dollars)" is not how we do titles. When the press do that, they are engaging in a form of disambiguation, giving multiple titles. But WP never disambiguates with an alternative name, only with a descriptive term; we never have an article title [at least not for long, noob errors aside] with a name like David Johansen (Buster Poindexter) or Silicon carbide (carborundum). Fixing such "two names at once" DABs is a speediable move type at WP:RM/TR. To put it another way, if the poster and DVD cover read Dollars instead of $, we would never disambiguate this as "Dollars (The Heist)". PS: The fact that the majority of RS mentions of this film are in the entertainment press, which is rather addicted to mimicking logo stylization (and has non-WP:INDY reasons for doing so – almost all their income is from entertainment-industry advertising money) means that results are going to be skewed in favor of $; see WP:Common-style fallacy. See related thread here, just one of many.

PPS: MOS:TM certainly does apply; all modern mass-market films are trademarked to every extent that movie-studio lawyers can get trademarks on them. But MOS:TM isn't strictly limited to things with legal trademarks in the first place. The third sentence of the guideline's lead makes it very clear it is applicable to all conceptually similar cases.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  08:41, 20 December 2018 (UTC)" If you disagree start another RM, but I will vote support in said RM as I have found even more justification for the move even after I closed the RM. I really studied the arguements on both sides for hours and this is the conclusion I reached after hard thoughtful study.. JC7V (talk) 23:31, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Mimicking logo stylization" - in other words, using the film's real name. And no, someone can't trademark the dollar sign ($), this source says a trademark has to be distinctive and recognizable. Trademarking $ would be like trying to trademark a question mark, ?. But I'm glad you did a study, and thanks for taking the time to research your close. Some closers have, literally, spent a minute on reading and studying novella length discussions, so it's good to meet someone who gives their closes some good thought. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:56, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Slama Draft

Howdy,

I wanted to check in on how I can improve my Julie Slama draft. As of 1/9/19 she will be serving in a state legislature thus qualifying under the WP:NPOL. Here are some additional reference articles to corroborate the appointment: Omaha World Herald Lincoln Journal Star KMA Land Radio Nebraska NPR & PBS. Her predecessor had a page and Julie will be the youngest female legislator in the state of Nebraska (if not the youngest overall). I want this to be robust, but don't really know what I'm doing. Just thought this story was cool and wanted it to be shared with the Wiki community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbyjhutt (talkcontribs) 20:33, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Abbyjhutt, I moved the draft to mainspace. It's an article now. This is an unacceptable way to act at RfA. Responding to opposes is fine but accusing Nihlus of casting aspersions, screaming at Insertcleverphrasehere UGH, and then yelling at Ritchie333 Would that change your mind Ritchie333?? Would IT??? is not conduct acceptable for any user. Also, I'm not particularly sure what my opposing has to do with the candidate not succeeding. However, I would like to warn you that this series of edits against Donner60 was quite inappropriate, to the extent that you may be blocked if it is repeated.
