Removal of active block message
Hello J. I saw your edit summary on User talk:Rtvybo787 about the removal of an active block message. I was unaware of that. I always thought this and this were the guidelines. Can you point me in the right direction on this? Toddst1 (talk) 16:35, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- AFAIK there are still only 3 things that are not to be removed: Declined unblock requests while the block is active, Shared IP notices, and confirmed sockpuppetry notices. Per WP:BLANKING. –xeno (talk) 16:40, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- I hope my question came across ok. I wasn't being sarcastic. It's a strange and often misunderstood rule and the weird part is the rules sometimes change. Cheers. Toddst1 (talk) 05:16, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
3RR question
Hi J.delanoy, just wanted your opinion on this because you looked active right now. Am I handling this correctly by removing what I see as spam links from these disambig pages? Will I be subject to 3RR if I continue? Thanks, Darkspots (talk) 22:49, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Nice move with the French WP. Thanks! (You forgot to sign his talk page, btw) Darkspots (talk) 23:04, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- So....he's still at it. [1] I'm not reverting again because of 3RR—it seems like a gray area, whether or not my reversions count as a content dispute or as vandalism reverts. I warned him for 3RR, but I'm not sure of my ground here. Thanks, Darkspots (talk) 13:54, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
- The icing on the gâteau for me is that it's extremely likely that he's Canadian and (also/therefore) speaks perfectly good English—highlighting your point even further. Darkspots (talk) 14:56, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Did you bother reading my rationale on the talk page? How on earth is what I have done - remove a clearly non encyclopedic photo which fails to show one of the most prominent secondary sex caharacteristics of a woman - vandalism? It's having mis-information like this that makes Wikipedia a laughing stock. 86.150.96.24 (talk) 15:04, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Dear J.delanoy, after I saw IP 72.14.172.170 vandalizing your talkpage, I reported it to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. After I reported it, I visited its talkpage only to discover that you blocked it for 55 hours! :-) AdjustShift (talk) 15:15, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

This user 86.150.96.24 (talk) is "peeved" because I removed his picture. His was replacing one that had been there for months. I think I am correct... but as you know, I have been wrong before. Reversion of Child Support
Ah, I feel more welcome already. It would be nice if instead of simply reverting my work on Child Support you provide an "informative edit summary". Removing external links can be contentious but the section was tagged and their was no discussion on the talk page. I'm sure a compromise can be reached, if you care to discuss this onTalk:Child_support.→(Speak•MorgothX•Havoc) 03:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just saw that huggle thing, the revert was probably a mistake. There was vandalism on the page, though not from my edit. I removed it later. If huggle or whatever is causing these mistakes it could end up hurting things worse than regular vandals! →(Speak•MorgothX•Havoc) 03:48, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Userpage code.
How do you hide the contents of your userpage so that it dispalys that little "TO VANDALS: Where did the information go?" thing? I would like to know so I can have that protection on my userpage. Thank you. Vandalism destroyer (talk) 03:41, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Before the text you want to hide, use <!-- and at the end of the hidden text put --> . That should do it. Useight (talk) 03:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- That only hides text so that it doesn't appear on the page. It still appears in the edit box. I want the exact opposite. I want the contents of my userpage to only appear on the page itself, and not the edit box, so that vandals can't touch it. Vandalism destroyer (talk) 14:55, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: Your edits
Hi Techman!
I just wanted to let you know that I have been watching you, and all of your reversions that I looked seem good, as did your AIV reports. I think you may be a little overzealous with your UAA reports; you may want to read WP:USERNAME for a refresher, and please remember that UAA is only intended for blatant violations.
Basically, just keep up the good work with your reversions and AIV reports, and do take a minute to read the page I linked to!
Cheers!

Question
Hi I have a question. The reason I'm asking you is because, being an administrator, you would know far more than myself or most editors. If you go to the King Kong vs Godzilla page and look under the "Legacy" section, the last paragraph talks about a script for sale (including a website link). Is it OK to leave that in there? It seems to me script solicitation on a Wikipedia page would violate some sort of policy or rule since it seems to be a form of advertising. Is that the case?Giantdevilfish (talk) 17:42, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Great. Thanks for the reply. It just seemed wrong to me for someone to use an online encyclopedia to advertise a script, but I just wanted to make sure that was the case which is why I asked. Cheers!Giantdevilfish (talk) 18:12, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Buckshot (Rapper) cousin Stones
What's up J. Delanoy I see you've made extensive contributions to the rappers Buckshot bio page and I was wondering if you could and would help me create a decent page for his cousin Stones. I have extensive information on him and was wondering why the wiki site does not feature any article of him considering him and buckshot has appeared in photos, footage, and events with each other not to mention he has co-signs from Brownsville legends such as Smoothe da hustler along with Buck and I think he is also close with St. Laz who's another up and coming Brownsville emcee that's not feautured on this site. I would love to make a page for those two but considering that I am new to this site I don't know how to with out it being deleted from the site within a matter of days. If need be you can check out either one of their myspace pages for some information of your own ,myspace/STONESMUZIK and myspace/STLAZPOTTERSFIELD. I would be very greatful if you were to help me because if you too are a lover of hip hop I know you can tell that Brownsville emcees are some of the most potent from M.O.P. to Heltah Skeltah, AZ and even some of the WU Members. Thank you in advance, Peace. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HipHopDoc (talk • contribs) 19:38, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism originating from 216.56.60.210
I noticed that you recently left a warning to 216.56.60.210 regarding vandalism. The same anonymous user, just prior to that, removed all the previous (multiple) warnings from their talk page. I'm unfamiliar with the protocol for this situation, as I do not want to remove your warning in order to restore the previous ones, and I suspect that the nature of your warning will change once that user's talk page has been restored. So, I'm kind of dropping it in your lap, hoping that I will one day be able to better handle similar situations myself. Thanks so much for your help. Steamroller Assault (talk) 00:57, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Steamroller, this popped up on my watchlist and I thought I'd help out. Users (and anons) are free to remove items from their own talk pages, per this guideline, however doing so is taken as evidence that they have read and understood the messages, and little of the same vandalism is generally tolerated. Hope this helps. – Toon(talk) 01:23, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't mean to butt in here, but whether its a copyrighted script or not, the site still lists it as being solicited for sale. If this script was sold and in production then fine. But its a script being shopped around. That seems to me to be a form of advertsing as in trying to sell a script.Giantdevilfish (talk) 04:44, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Not only that, but the text is badly written even if it weren't advertising. The two links are the same, it's badly punctuated, the number of pages is unnecessary detail, and it's generally unencyclopedic. —KCinDC (talk) 04:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

How do you revert so fast?
When I try to revert "blanked the page", I noticed that you have already reverted it while I was trying to. I do view the recent changes list, but how do you eliminate the edit so fast? Do you use a software program? I wouldn't think it's vandalproof, because that has been disabled. Do you use anything, or do you just manage to click through the links to revert it so fast? -- IRP ☎ 23:41, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I still not understanding why you had reverted my article Rianxo and after you "undoing own edit". Question
Hi - I wanted to ask you about this article, where an anonymous IP editor is constantly reverting to assert that Kosovo is part of Serbia. Now in my judgment this is a content dispute which is not really vandalism, and I do not wish to partake in a revert war. But I reverted an edit he made which had an edit summary carrying a threat. Question: can his edits, owing to his edit summary/attitude, be construed as vandalism? Did I do properly to revert with Huggle, or should I leave such edits alone? Vishnava talk 00:21, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Questions about Huggle
Hi. I'm a newbie editor with intentions of becoming a functional recent changes patroller. While I was checking out the Recent Changes page, I noticed you revert a lot of vandalism (kudos to you on that mate), but not just that –you are unbelievably fast. I definitely don't think I'm the fastest around here, but I'm definitely not slow either, yet when I get to the page, I always find you've already reverted it! I might not sleep at night if I have to assume this is the result of human training; I mean, can you really be that fast without the aid of something?
So, I read you use Huggle. I'd like to try it out, but a couple of things confuse me. Maybe you could clarify them for me, since you say you can help with the vandalism tools? Pretty please with sugar on top? :)
The questions would be:
- Is Huggle even functoinal anymore? On its page (I assume) it says MEDIAWIKI CHANGES/BUGS HAVE BROKEN HUGGLE. USE SOMETHING ELSE. THANKS. So... yeah. Kind of confused here. If it is unstable (or something), how long has it been this way? And do you think it might work properly again? (If it's broken in some way in the first place, of course)
- Is Huggle the reason you edit at the speed of light? Or do you just possess inhuman, godlike speed? I might just worship you if you do :D Or at least give you some sort of barnstar.
- Do I absolutely need rollback rights to use it? Or can I just do less things with it without having rollback rights? I want to know if I can fight vandalism better without having to apply for a privilege I don't fully understand and probably wouldn't get in a million years.
Any help on any/all of these questions is greatly appreciated. --QuadrivialMind (talk) 03:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Is about.com considered a reliable source? I am currently editing an article that uses about.com almost exclusively. It does not look kosher to me, and would appreciate the benefit of your experience. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:41, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- According to our article about it, About.com is an online source for original information and advice [...] The site’s content is dynamic, attempting to keep up with new information and changing consumer interests.". So I would say that it is not reliable, since apparently pretty much anyone can say anything and they don't have to back it up like we do here. J.delanoygabsadds 15:44, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- That is precisely what I thought. I am removing the references, which will, unfortunately, leave the article almost wholly unreferenced. Alas... ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Vandalism block, thanks.
[3]. Nice. Fast. I won't be surprised to see more of this from 87.112-87.115, which is the floating IP range for a provider used by both the banned User:Fredrick day and the blocked User:Oxyman42, which may or may not be independent users. Quite a coincidence if they are. (The only two very active users attempting to harass me are co-located?).? Anyway, thanks. Not worth spending a lot of time on this, they will just reboot the modem. --Abd (talk) 16:42, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

- Pretty much. I remember one day someone vandalized an article with several different IP addresses, so I semi-protected it, since the mainspace actually matters. They then vandalized my talk page with "Ha, I sure pwned that article". I reverted and blocked. He came back again saying "I have unlimited IP address". rv, block. He kept this up for quite a while actually, and I just kept swinging the banhammer, and I refused to protect my page. After a while, he just stopped. Most vandals are like that. Revert on user talk
Just as a note, I have undone your revert, I like to keep all messages for reference, unless they violate guidelines or whatever of course. Whilst it does perhaps constitute a personal attack, I'd prefer it be left. Deleted Eagle Mountain, Utah edit
J. Delanoy - I have been trying to delete the current entry for Eagle Mountain, Utah under the History of Mayors section because it is full of personal attacks and a subjective view of the history, which I understand to be against Wikipedia's policies.
I am a representative of Eagle Mountain City and am trying to make our entry based on facts an verifiable information only, and yet I am the one who is being threatened to be banned from editing this page.
Please tell me how I may get this corrected permanently so that those who are truly vandalizing this page may be banned.
Thank you.

Latest Amande Dobbs update
Hi there,
I dont understand why you consider adding information about past international events vandalism. I was merely addind a comment about her Bronze Medalle at the 2008 AEGON Challenge Cup http://www.tracings.net/2008chalc.html and the Gold Medall at the 2008 JGP in Mexico City in Mexico to the Biographie section. If you consider this vandalism than I will no longer waste my time trying to improve the figure skater pages you have here.

Bill Ayers
Hi J, delanoy- I noticed you semi-protected Bill Ayers due to excessive vandalism. I had been working on the article and reverting vandalism, BLP violations and unsourced POV. The problem edits are mainly coming from registered users and the minimal vandalism is removed from this article by editors faster then a bot.
I have also been working on other election related articles that are now semi-protected and I can no longer edit without creating an account. I tried to create one with my known user name IP75, but there is a inactive user 'LP75' and I get a message that says I need an Admin to create this account. Can you help me with this matter and also waive the four day waiting period so that I can continue to contribute. Thanks, IP75 75.25.28.167 (talk) 20:22, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would be glad to create the account for you. Can you give me your email address so that I can send a random password to you? As far as waiving the four-day waiting period, I do not think it is technically possible to do that. I looked around everywhere I could think of, and I don't think there is any way to do that. I am reluctant to unprotect the Ayers page, since it seems extremely likely that it will receive a high amount of vandalism. Would you be willing to wait the four days? I'm really sorry that it seems that I am going to have to make you to do this, but I don't know exactly what to do. :/ J.delanoygabsadds 20:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I just found and filled out a request for account form with my email, but it will not be submitted until I confirm. Stalking
Is there anyway you can stop stalking the Obama Bio page? You're so trigger happy, you even accidentally revert people commenting on the talk page! Just breathe...and relax. 68.143.88.2 (talk) 21:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- JD isn't "stalking" the page; he has it on his watchlist and actively patrols for vandalism. This is a valuable task and the fact that he reverted a non-vandalistic edit - and immediately reverted himself - is not grounds for a call for him to cease-and-desist. Also, I'm pretty sure he's not doing it with any sort of passion, anger, or other emotion, so telling him to "relax" is condescending. You need to realize the motivation behind his reversions before you accuse anyone of stalking. Tan | 39 21:53, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Over 2,000 reverts today with that fancy and addicting tool. I'm even just staring at the RC watching for vandalism until you and Thingg come along. - Whoa, I have more than 2000 edits today? Wow. I mean wow. I was at college most of the day, and I had two hours with no classes and a two hour class where I don't have to pay attention to get an "A", and a two-hour lab where my teacher's rules are "Submit good work on time, and you can do whatever you want in lab.", so I haven't really had much that I have had to do. I didn't realize before now, but Thingg and I really have been slammin' dem vandals today. I don't know when I'm going to stop, probably once the vandalism slows down a bit. Have fun with your homework... X-P J.delanoygabsadds 22:38, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

- Sorry, I didn't see this reply until now. Hmm, I can't remember who it was, but they had made a lot of extremely blatant vandalism, and Huggle was acting up, so it wouldn't warn him. I had his talk page open in Firefox to issue a warning with Twinkle, and I saw him vandalize twice more on Huggle, so I just blocked him. J.delanoygabsadds 02:48, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I don't think it's a huge deal, but I personally try to err on the side of caution. "Huggle acting up" doesn't seem the best reason to quit warning vandals. They often do stop once they see we're serious, and for the ones that won't stop regardless, a couple of orange bars are pretty cheap to make an appeal less likely to succeed. Just my two cents. Newbie editor back and asking for your input
Hi, it's me again... Quad, remember? :P
First off, I wanted to thank you for your advice, as it was really useful. I've been adopted now, so I didn't bother you with more questions as I could have :) (and be glad for that) I've been using Lupin's tool along with Twinkle to revert some vandalism the past few days, and I think I've been doing fine... I actually saw you quite a few times reverting some pages (As I'm sure did millions of others :P). But I wanted to ask you a couple more questions, if you don't mind:
- What is your experience with other tools previous to acquiring rollback privileges and the killing machine? Any recommendations or tips for a specific one?
- Do you think having the vandalism obliterator removes the need for ANY other tools?
- What's so good about rollback? I don't really get why people would apply for it having the tools I mentioned, but that's because I don't really understand what rollback actually does. What are the advantages of having it, and what new things are you able to do with it? This is apart from using Huggle, of course. Because I noticed Twinkle has a rollback feature, but according to my logic and what you said a few days ago, it can't be the same feature. And Lupin also, apparently (although I haven't tried that one yet, I usually find pages to revert with Lupin and revert and warn with Twinkle), but there is an option that says use non-admin rollback. So, yeah, kind of confusing to me.
Any input is appreciated. See you around, and keep up the anti-vandalism, you insane-ultra-fast-reverting-human/Huggle-hybrid, you :P
--QuadrivialMind (talk) 04:16, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again, Quad!
- First, I want to say that I love that "insane-ultra-fast-reverting-human/Huggle-hybrid" name you called me. That is awesome! When I get the chance, I'm putting that in an "awesome quotes" section or somewhere.
- But for now, down to business...
- What is your experience with other tools previous to acquiring rollback privileges and the killing machine? Any recommendations or tips for a specific one?
- I got rollback in January 2008. Although I didn't know it at the time, this was right after non-admin rollback had been implemented. Prior to that, only administrators had access to the rollback feature. Before receiving rollback, I fought vandalism by hand using the undo feature. After receiving rollback, I continued to fight vandalism by hand for around a month. Then I saw Jj137 on Huggle (which was really new then, basically no one knew about it) and he gave it to me. So I never actually used any tools before Huggle. As for other tools, I swear by Twinkle for minor cleanup if I run across it in my random browsing. It's very fast (especially for a script-based tool), easy to use, and incredibly versatile. The only drawback is that it doesn't filter edits for you, so if you're going to fight vandalism solely with Twinkle, you'll have to go to Special:Recentchanges, click on diffs, and hope you get there before a Huggler does. Another good tool (that does filter edits) is Mike's Wiki Tool. One drawback is that it is kind of hard to get MWT to work on Windows Vista. If you are running Vista and would like to give it a try, I could try to walk you through the steps to set it up. (If you decide to go ahead and use just Twinkle, and you have access to IRC, irc://irc.freenode.net/cvn-wp-en contains a useful stream of questionable edits that may make your life easier.)
- Do you think having the vandalism obliterator removes the need for ANY other tools?
- No I don't. I think each has its place. Huggle is only good at catching vandalism as it happens. After 15 minutes pass, Huggle is almost completely useless to combat vandalism unless the vandal attacks again. To draw a rough analogy, suppose that vandalism is bacteria, viruses, and/or poison, and Wikipedia is a human body. Huggle is equivalent to the body's skin. It stops practically everything, but once something gets through, the skin cannot do anything to stop it. Also, Huggle is a stand-alone application designed solely for fighting vandalism. As such, it is very difficult to do anything else while using it. Script-based tools such as Twinkle ride along in your browser, so suppose I am writing a rather long message like this one and I'm thinking about what to say next. I idly click on my watchlist and see that someone I had never heard of edited User:Jimbo Wales. I click on the diff, and find that they vandalized it. With Twinkle, I can just rollback the vandalism and warn the user with only a few clicks. I don't even have to type anything. Doing that with Huggle or other standalone antivandalism tools would be very awkward.
- (a) What's so good about rollback? I don't really get why people would apply for it having the tools I mentioned, (b)but that's because I don't really understand what rollback actually does. What are the advantages of having it, and what new things are you able to do with it? This is apart from using Huggle, of course. (c)Because I noticed Twinkle has a rollback feature, but according to my logic and what you said a few days ago, it can't be the same feature. (d)And Lupin also, apparently (although I haven't tried that one yet, I usually find pages to revert with Lupin and revert and warn with Twinkle), but there is an option that says use non-admin rollback. So, yeah, kind of confusing to me.

- (a) What's so good about rollback? I don't really get why people would apply for it having the tools I mentioned,
- Rollback is implemented at the system level, right in MediaWiki, the software that runs Wikipedia. As a result, it is much, much faster and less demanding on the servers than any script-based tool could ever hope to be. As proof of what it is capable of doing, take a look at this link. There is no way you could ever do that with a script.
- (b) but that's because I don't really understand what rollback actually does. What are the advantages of having it, and what new things are you able to do with it? This is apart from using Huggle, of course.
- Rollback is essentially a hyperlink that calls on a special feature of MediaWiki that automatically figures out which revision is the last revision made by someone other than the current editor. Rollback then supplies the server with a unique hashed token to verify that the person who clicked the link is allowed to do so, and if everything is in order, the server undoes all consecutive edits by the page's last editor. (If you're interested, a rollback hyperlink looks something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&action=rollback&from=Remember+the+dot&token=f42e845f614ddf72344d166a4ba29d7c%2B%5C)
- (c) Because I noticed Twinkle has a rollback feature, but according to my logic and what you said a few days ago, it can't be the same feature.
- Twinkle's rollback feature mimics the MediaWiki one, but since it is a script is not as fast or efficient as the "real" one. The rest of my answer here would basically repeat the answer to part "b" of the answer to this question.
- (d) And Lupin also, apparently (although I haven't tried that one yet, I usually find pages to revert with Lupin and revert and warn with Twinkle), but there is an option that says use non-admin rollback. So, yeah, kind of confusing to me.
- Non-admin rollback is what you would be getting if you applied at WP:RFPERM. There are two user rights groups that have access to the MediaWiki rollback feature: Administrators and Rollbackers. I explained some of the background behind this in the answer to question a.

I'm confused...
I thought IP's were not allowed to delete their own warnings/notices. I usually revert them to help others know what warnings to give to repeat vandals. What is the policy on this? That would really help me out if you let me know.... Beano (talk) 06:34, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

- For some inexplicable reason, per Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines#User_talk_pages, users are allowed to remove warnings, even block notices. The only thing you are not allowed to remove is an unblock request. I agree that it makes no sense, but yeah. J.delanoygabsadds 15:42, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
The discussion
Hello, J.delanoy. Personally, I don't want to take part in this political lynching. Notice that they have not talked about my edits on articles they just have gotten their feelings hurt by political beliefs. The admin who is leading this charge is a questionable character and I don't want to give credence to his "discussion". --Tocino 17:19, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I cannot force you to comment, but you are only hurting yourself if you do not. The identity of the person who started the conversation is irrelevant. I did not even look at that conversation or any of Husond's reasons before I started looking around. Your assertion that "They have not talked about my edits they just have gotten their feelings hurt by political beliefs" is also irrelevant. I came to my conclusions based solely on my own research. Other users' opinions on you did not influence me in the slightest. Your own edits are what caused me to say what I did. I once again ask you to say something in response to my request on the talk page. J.delanoygabsadds 17:35, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- How long would the ban last and is there an appeals system? I would rather not deal with User:Husond. --Tocino 17:38, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Damn, I was apparently not paying attention too well. I've removed my comments (at least temporarily) from the article's talk page until I have more time to look deeper. Confused...
I recieved a message from you explaining that me removing the article on the social pressure of bras was vandalisim.... But I do not understand, is this not a site to edit articles? How am I vandalising anything?
Alot of young women who search these terms (although yes by their own choosing) will/do get confused with seeing these things and it only fuels their own upset about the way they are. The articles shouldn't provoke any kind of upset, confusion or frustration, an encylcopedia is supposed to bring a reader sole knowledge. You have to think about what kind of impact this free for all editing is giving on young women. Nobody can just point out and say, "yes, the average person changes their clothing 3 times a day" or be able to sum up average of this, averages of that... There's alot of that on articles I've read. But yet we're all different. I don't know if anyone else has spoken up on the topic but I urge you to remove that section, seeing I cannot....
- Technolita —Preceding unsigned comment added by Technolita (talk • contribs) 01:22, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Technolita. The reason I said it was vandalism is because you removed sourced content from the article. I really appreciate your concern about how young women may take that section, but I am not sure exactly what you think the inclusion of that information will do. If you think it will cause a problem, what you should do is open a discussion on the article's talk page and voice your concerns. J.delanoygabsadds 01:29, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of the "Paul Elgin" Page
Hello,
I am trying to add an article for business entrepreneur Paul Elgin. Why is this page keep being deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Htentceo (talk • contribs) 00:49, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Htentceo. Your article about Mr. Elgin was deleted because it did not say why he is notable, or special. This will sound more blunt than I intend it to, but what has Mr. Elgin done that other people would want to know about? Has he had any substantial coverage in established, neutral, third-party sources?
- Also, the article was written much like a resumé or an advertisement. One of the core policies on Wikipedia is that all articles must maintain a neutral point of view. Articles including phrases like,
- "In the spring of 2006, Paul founded Catch 22 Clothing, an urban-sophisticated lifestyle brand catering to the mature, conservative & sophisticated individual. Through aggressive radio, online, and print promotions, Catch 22 Clothing quickly gained the attention of consumers nationwide.
- are not neutral; they are more suited to a press release or a quarterly financial report than an encyclopedia article.
- If you still don't understand something, feel free to ask. You may also wish to look at our page about writing your first article for more information about our policies and guidelines for articles to be included. J.delanoygabsadds 01:00, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thank you for the explaination. So should I omit the areas in which you are referring to?
As for Paul Elgin's contributions, His clothing line Catch 22 Clothing is one of the pioneers in coining the phrase "Stunna Shades" during the Bay Area Hyphy Movement, as Catch 22 was the first company to trademark the phrase and place it on eyewear product nationwide for sale. Catch 22 Clothing has also been showcased in national magazines and on major network television.
Paul Elgin has also done graphic design for well known actresses Zoe Saldana and Jennifer Lora. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.34.111.250 (talk) 01:15, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm still not sure that constitutes notability, but I am probably not the best person to ask about that. If you do create the page again, definitely try to rewrite it without the advertising part, and be sure to include citations to reliable sources. If you want, I can copy the deleted page to your userpage so you can work on it there before moving it back to the mainspace. J.delanoygabsadds 01:18, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I will repost without suggestive advertising. I will have it rewritten a bit as well. However now my page is deleted. I was not trying to be insubordinate in any way by removing those speedy deletion tags earlier; It is my first time contributing to Wikipedia and I was unsure of the process. I was also unaware of where to read the warning messages! Could you please re-instate my user page and post the deleted version so I can make the necessary edits? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.34.111.250 (talk) 01:29, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Will do. The page is (or will be) at User:Htentceo. Just so you know, I think you got logged out somehow. You may want to log back in before making edits to your userpage, or it may confuse anyone who sees you doing it. J.delanoygabsadds 01:36, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

A Question for you
I have perused the wikipedia community looking for the right person to ask my question. You seem like the right chap. You may not have a good answer for me, but i will try anyway. Let me give you a bit of background about myself, so that you can give me a more complete answer, if possible. For starters, I have been noticing how quickly you have been reverting the evil menace known as VANDALISM. Great job. I see your user name all over the place, so I know that you work tirelessly at it. As for me, I have only really been doing this editing thing for about two months now. Like you, I love reverting vandalism and do it every chance I get. Recently, I was granted Rollback rights which has made my mission so much easier. I have noticed that many editors who revert vandalism use either Huggle (which I understand is broken, but everyone still uses it), or Twinkle. I use internet explorer, so I don't think I can use Twinkle. I considered Huggle, but I can't do anything, because the page says its broken. I just want to be able to add a message or a warning to a vandals talk page automatically. I see others doing it, or at least I presume that they are doing it. So far, I have been cutting and pasting, which can be draining at times, and doesn't add all of the information, such as the page vandalized. Is there something easy I can do, or is it hopeless?--Jojhutton (talk) 00:09, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, Huggle is somewhat unstable, but unless you are an admin, there is nothing really majorly wrong with it. If you do have rollback, I would recommend that you try it out. Otherwise, I would recommend downloading Firefox and installing Twinkle. Other than Huggle and Twinkle, I have never used any vandal-fighting tools that are easy to install. J.delanoygabsadds 00:30, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well then, how do I get Huggle? I have been using Rollback and its great, but it doesn't seem to add the all important warning on the vandals talk page.--Jojhutton (talk) 00:36, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey
Just a heads up, I happened to see this: [6], and you may want to semi-protect your userpage. You must be pretty popular with vandals! Anyway, keep up the vandalism-reversions, SpencerT♦C 00:43, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- You know, I also noticed that. It must be the price of reverting so musc vandalism.--Jojhutton (talk) 01:01, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for indef'ing this guy, not because i'm involved with him, but because I spent 2 minutes agonising over whether or not to indef, only to notice you'd done it anyway. Need to be a bit bolder. Good job--Jac16888 (talk) 21:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Heh. I saw the edit summary for this on my watchlist and I was like "Crap....". No problem. I've made nearly 50000 vandalism reversions, so I tend to be able to make my decisions regarding stuff like this pretty fast. J.delanoygabsadds 21:03, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

- I didn't realize you became an admin today. So first, let me say congratulations on your promotion!
- As far as the blocks go, both were good. I probably would have blocked the IP longer, but what you did was fine. It's natural to be a little hesitant when you first go about using the admin tools, but you're doing fine. The key thing to remember is, if you think you're doing it correctly, 99% of the time you are. Have fun! J.delanoygabsadds 21:48, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I did wonder about blocking the Ip longer, but i think it was a schoolip, and i remember reading something on AN or AN/I the other day about 31 hours being perfect for school block, because it means it won't be unblocked if they come back the same time tomorrow and hopefully they won't try again--Jac16888 (talk) 22:08, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's pretty good advice. Of course, some schools have a lot of people vandalizing, so if they return, definitely escalate the blocking period. J.delanoygabsadds 22:10, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Will do, thanks for the help. And the validation--Jac16888 (talk) 22:16, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about RL. It's tough. I've had a couple of bad breaks myself, and I've always came out of them feeling stronger, and knowing that I can overcome the challenges life throws in my way. I guess the RfA is off, then. That's fine. DO you know anyone else who might nom me? Good luck, and I hope you can sort things out soon. Sincerely, Erik the Red 2 ~~~~ 01:10, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Bot proposal - comments needed
I'm messaging you since you participated in a Village Pump discussion a while back on the subject. I've since put in a proposal for a bot to revert the addition of redlinks to a subset of list articles and/or list sections. The selection of such articles and the policy of operation of the bot is under discussion there. Your input would be welcome. Pseudomonas(talk) 16:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey!
Hey Quad
I saw you on Huggle yesterday (read: I cursed all the powers of hell as you beat me multiple times...), and you did excellently. Apparently, better than I thought you had from just watching you - based on the stream of thank you's left on your userpage ;-) If you ever get tired of them vandalizing it, just ask any admin to protect it for you - users are allowed to request protection for any page in their userspace (except their talk page, usually) for any length of time for any reason.
Again, you're already (from what I saw) doing better than 99% of people who start using Huggle; I wanted to let you know that because you are doing a good job, and too often people only get noticed when they do something wrong. Have fun, and leave a little for me to revert sometimes, ok? :P J.delanoygabsadds 00:09, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- I was just logging out of Huggle when I saw your message. Thanks for the kind words :)
- And if I beat you multiple times, it's only because the day before that (or was it the one before that one? –anyway, the previous day in which I patrolled using HG), you beat me. Actually, you beat me so many times, that I was thinking of adding this to your talk page:
“ | Thou shalt not need to patrol and look for the willful destroyers while the Huggle-Human hybrid dwells on the Wikiland, for he reverts at the speed of light. | ” |
- About my page being vandalized... I'd rather have them waste their time deleting my stuff instead of the useful pages on Wikipedia, so I don't think I want to protect the page unless it gets really intense.
- Also, I don't even need to worry about reverting changes, since somebody always comes really fast and fixes it. By the way, how do people actually do that? On Huggle, or at least mine, user pages are not shown. Well, at least one person reverted my page using HG. Somebody else reverted it using TW and someone else used the undo feature, I believe (I guess my page would pop up here)... But I still wonder about the person who used Huggle to do it. Any light you can shed on this?
- See you around! –QuadrivialMind (talk) 00:44, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. By default Huggle is configured to only look at the mainspace and the template space. You can change it to allow all namespaces by going opening Huggle and going to System → Options. Or if you want, I can just change your huggle.css for you. J.delanoygabsadds 00:49, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's fine, thanks. I'm going to tinker with the program options tomorrow, and if I still can't do it, I'll let you know and you can change my css for me. Anyway, I'm leaving for dinner now, I'll be back probably tomorrow. Cheers –QuadrivialMind (talk) 00:58, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Thank you!
Actually, it's after midnight where I am. Been tinkering around with a model plane and I didn't realize the time. Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I don't want to get driven away again, believe me. If I ever feel the need to duck out of here again (which I pray won't happen), you'll be the first to know, I promise. Thanks again for the kind words. They're appreciated more than I can express. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 07:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

French commune infoboxes
Hi. We have a large back log of French commune articles to add the infoboxes from French wikipedia Status check. All that needs doing is copying the infobox directly from the French wikipedia equivalent. Please see Vulaines. All that needs doing for each article is cutting and pasting the infobox from French wiki into every article which must be bot compatible. So for Vulaines all it requires is pasting the infobox into it from here and pasting it into the english wiki article. COuld somebody please programme a bot or use some form of coding to help complete the task in hours rather than months? Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 11:48, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

- IDK. I'm probably not the best person to ask. I think that as long as there are no reliable sources to back it up, you should be fine. But if you've got a question, just leave it. If it really is incorrect, someone else will most likely remove it, or you can just come back after the chaos has died down and remove it then. J.delanoygabsadds 02:10, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking that annoying IP that kept vandalizing my talk page yesterday. Just when I was about to report him at WP:AIV, I got an urgent call and had to run an errand.

Help with Twinkle
Hey, how's it going?
I wanted to ask you about something related to Twinkle. You still use it for some stuff, right? (blocking, maybe?) I'd like to configure it to work in a certain way (it's just a minor change) but don't know how, and can't find anything on the manual about it. Maybe you know about this or can at least tell me if it can be done.
My problem is regarding User Contributions pages. Every time I see one, Twinkle automatically adds the tags [rollback] and [vandalism] at the end of all (top) edit entries. I find it kind of annoying, since I don't ever click on those tags, they tend to clutter things up even more, and the colors are distracting too. I'd like to look at the Contributions pages as if I didn't have Twinkle, but I don't want to modify my monobook each time I see a Contributions page —or else I'd go nuts! I still use Twinkle on some occasions, so I like to have it on all the time.
Here's a picture of what I'm talking about in case you didn't follow.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance. –QuadrivialMind (talk) 08:56, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, it's probably possible, but I'll have to slog through quite a bit of javascript. Right now, I really have to get my homework done. I'll look at it as soon as I can. J.delanoygabsadds 18:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- No worries mate. I don't really need you to do that—in fact, it makes me feel kind of guilty to make you slog through quite a bit of javascript when you have to do so much other, more important stuff :P If it's too much trouble, you could just point me in the right direction (maybe one of the desks is the right place to ask?) and I'd be thankful anyway.
- In any case, whatever you decide to do, I'm in no hurry, so... take your time, and good luck with your homework ;) See you around –QuadrivialMind (talk) 18:53, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I've seen that happen, too; I just click the main [rollback] button most of the time (not the Twinkle rollback functions). SchfiftyThree (talk!) 18:57, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- What do you mean, you've seen it happen? O_o I thought everyone who had Twinkle had those tags showing up on the contribution pages—just by default. Was I wrong to make that assumption?
- Also, when I want to use rollback without Huggle, I too click the main [rollback] button... in fact that's kind of the reason I find the other two annoying :P –QuadrivialMind (talk) 20:20, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- What I meant when I said, "I've seen that happen" is that when I'm searching through a user's contributions, I have seen the two Twinkle rollback functions like you have explained above. SchfiftyThree (talk!) 20:55, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, right, sorry, I get it now. But you have no idea how to remove those either, huh? :P –QuadrivialMind (talk) 22:29, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I asked this question on WT:TW a few weeks ago, and Mandarax was kind enough to do this for me. Just replace importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js'); with importScript('User:Xaradnam/twinkle.js'); in your monobook.js as I have and you should get what you were looking for. --Closedmouth (talk) 14:12, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

- That's fine. As long as you don't vandalize, you should be all right. If you have a shared IP address, however, you may still receive warnings and possibly even a block for stuff you didn't do. The best way to avoid this is to simply create an account. If you need help with something, feel free to ask. Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 18:04, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

- After reading the diffs, I endorse J.delanoy's revert, your addition may not have been vandalism, but it could be reworded batter, and the bit about how she was his mistress is irrelevant to the story. Something like the drink was developed by (name) and (name) with a source would be more encyclopedic. It's nothing against you personally, it's just that every editor needs to follow the same manual of style so that the project is uniform. Semi-protection of User talk:Jeff G.
Hi. Thank you for all of your anti-vandalism efforts. While I appreciate your well-meaning attempt at protecting me, I did not ask for my user talk page to be semi-protected, only my user page. I think it is counter-productive for me not to be able to get feedback from anon warnees in the usual place for it. Also, I don't want to be thought of as someone who can dish it out, but can't take it. In addition, I don't want the burden of having a separate unprotected talk page like you have. Thus, I respectfully request that you unprotect my user talk page. Thanks again! — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 22:06, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Done I meant to tell you that I had done that, but I got caught up following a vandalism thread on /b/ and I forgot to. So I guess I owe you an apology for that. I really hate performing logged actions on other people's userspace without telling them that I did it. I just saw someone calling for people to vandalize your page, and I know you are a good Huggler. I didn't want you to be distracted by all those "new messages" notices, so I protected your page. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 22:37, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

- Someone on /b/. I have no idea who it was (they all post as "anonymous"), but I do know why he was calling for your page to be vandalized. It was because you were pwning all his minions. They were posting screen grabs of their vandalism, and when I looked at the page history to find who to block, you had reverted them around 90% of the time...
- Also, link fixed. I forgot to update it when I asked for the original page to be deleted. Thanks for letting me know I had a dead link there - I wonder how many people have tried clicking on it... <_< J.delanoygabsadds 02:00, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Thank you.

For blocking the anon who vandalized my userpage. I'm surprised that it took this long for it to get vandalized considering how many users I have warned and reverted their contributions. Anyways, thanks! --Terrillja (talk) 22:53, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

A question
Hello! I've seen you a lot around Wiki lately. I've been looking for someone to answer a question I've got. I hope you can answer it, or direct me to someone who knows. While going through the RfA's I noticed many people opposed RfAs because they felt that areas like anti-vandalism, new pages, etc. had too many admins. So what I'd like to know is, which areas have a dearth of admins? Because I'd like to concentrate my efforts where they're needed most. Thanks. Antivenin 17:07, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm. Well, for one thing, I don't think there are too many admins on vandal-patrol and NPP. If anything, there are too few, especially in the really early morning UTC. In general, I don't know of any areas that need admins more than any others. WP:SSP quite often has a backlog, but as I rarely involve myself in sockpuppet cases that are not obvious, I don't know for sure. I'm probably not the best person to ask that type of question, since I almost exclusively work in vandal-patrol and newpage patrol. J.delanoygabsadds 17:26, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying! Well, I can't really be of much help at WP:SSP since finding sockpuppets is pretty random, and only admins can review/ban them. I'm not online during the early hours (UTC) and since the other admins say there are enough RC patrol admins, I don't know what to do now. Okay. Another question. According to you, what is the minimum time a person must be active in Wikipedia to RfA? (Assuming they have enough edits/experience) I've seen RfAs being opposed because of that, but there doesn't seem to be any concrete figure (months, years, whatever). Thanks again. Antivenin 19:10, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- At least 6 months of active contributing. Eight would probably be better. If you're really good, you may get by with four or five, but that is extremely unlikely IMHO.
- I am more than 99% sure why you are asking me this. Take it from me: being an admin is not really that great of an accomplishment. If you try very hard to be an admin, especially if you consciously start involving yourself in areas that you normally wouldn't, you will be disappointed.
- People at RFA tend to frown on users who actively attempt to become administrators. In fact, one of the main reasons I passed my RFA was because I declined to involve myself in areas of the site that did not interest me simply to make myself more attractive to people at RFA. From the standpoint of empirical contributions to the project, as opposed to the project's contributors, as a vandal-fighter, being an admin only really means that I can just do stuff myself rather than reporting to AIV, RFPP, or by tagging pages for CSD. Which, while nice, is not particularly interesting, nor is it that enjoyable.
- The only really nice part about being an admin, for me at least, is that I can usually help people if they ask me. For basically my entire time here on Wikipedia, I have fought vandalism. A freaking lot of vandalism, if I do say so myself. Because of this, my username shows up frequently in literally every corner of this site. As a result of this, people often come to me to ask for advice or help, and before I became an admin, I had to send people elsewhere many many times simply because I was technically unable to help them. Vandal patrol is, by and large, a solitary job, and it is not rewarding from the standpoint that all (read: 100%) of your contributions are buried in the page history. Writing articles actively improves the site, fighting vandalism only maintains the status quo. (This is somewhat of a chicken-and-egg situation, but the point is that vandal-patrol cannot, by itself, improve this site.) The single most rewarding thing I find on this site, and indeed the primary reason I continue to contribute here, is the knowledge that I am able to help people solve their problems. Thus, the rewarding part of being an admin, to me, merely means that I am able to help more people than I could before. That's it. If that is what you are looking for in adminship, you will be satisfied. If you are looking at it for pretty much any other reason, you will get bored with the tools before you have had them for a fortnight. J.delanoygabsadds 20:25, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
- Lol. I liked this: "I am more than 99% sure why you are asking me this."
- Yes, I'm looking at being an admin (eventually), I just didn't know what the minimum time-frame for applying was. And I wasn't trying to hide that. If it seemed I was, I apologize.
- I like to measure my progress by (I'm searching for the right word here) clearly defined figures (numbers, data, whatever). Like edit count, article count, number of people helped, etc. So if I stayed on Wikipedia not doing anything (read:not "progressing") that would be very disappointing for me. Thus being an admin isn't a goal, per se, just another way to progress. I don't know if you understand what I'm trying to say... But I hope you get the idea. Antivenin 07:54, 26 October 2008 (UTC)okay, i've been thinking about it and i suppose another reason why i'd like to be an admin is because i'd like to be less dependent on admins while reverting vandalism..

Thanks again, bro.
It seems that if one is going to extend an olive branch to a Wikipedia vandal, it must first be assumed that said vandal has some common sense. Obviously, our "Simpsons" friend is lacking. :) I am absolutely convinced that he has an open acount at User:Westwind2009. I left a sock notice on the page which went unchallenged (typical Lyle123), but the account remains open and I've reported it twice. Can you do a bruddah a favor and slap a block on that account? Much thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:43, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll keep an eye on him, but I am reluctant to block an account with no edits that is not have a blatant violation of the username policy. Having gone through that experience at another wiki, I don't want to unintentionally drive someone away. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 00:48, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- If you want, I can ask a checkuser to look at it. J.delanoygabsadds 00:49, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. If it isn't Lyle, please feel free to delete my notices. There were no edits cretited to the account when I tagged it, not even the user page. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:51, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- You apparently have to have hard evidence before they will perform a checkuser. If you want to file a request on his other socks, you probably would catch a few stray ones, but there is nothing else I can do here. Sorry. J.delanoygabsadds 01:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

The user has gotten a whole stack of warnings, perhaps a wikibreak might be in order so they can read over our rules? They have avoided getting blocked by editing a lot, then not at all, then a lot again, but I think they have had enough overall warnings now to warrant some sort of action. --Terrillja (talk) 02:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Reply to message
Hey thanks for the message. I read the article you provided. As far as the quote goes, I wrote differently than what I meant. I don't do all the contributing just so I can become a sysop. What I meant was that if being granted these privelages would help me fight vandalism easier. If I am nominated for adminship someday, I would accept and would like the idea of becoming one. Like I said, those privelages I am applying for is not 100% imperative to me. I fight vandalism, patrol new pages, and participate in AFD discussions because I have fun when I do it. Either way, it's not a big deal. Sorry if I sounded that way, though. BTW: What was that Page Protection message you sent me about? I didn't request one. Beano (talk) 04:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
- Nevermind. you hit the wrong button. No big deal. Beano (talk) 04:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

- Not a problem my friend. I do get what you're saying though. I get messages from people that's only goal is to be an administrator and I think it's pointless. I do what I do because it's A LOT of fun, and it's a semi-productive thing to do to pass the time when I'm bored. My goal is pretty much the same as what you said in the reply you linked me. It's really fun keeping things in ship-shape. Helping new users is the most fun I get out of doing what I do. Would I like to admin? Sure, but not bad enough to pour hours, days, and months, and even years into Wikipedia just so I can have the power. Beano (talk) 04:44, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

- Just go to Wikipedia:Mediation or Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal like Rlevse said. J.delanoygabsadds 03:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps a different tactic?
I noted your efforts to address a situation on Rlevse's talk page.[9] A technique I've found sometimes helps is to break the thread, so to speak, and change venues for the discussion. In this case, perhaps moving the conversation to the user's talk page might be helpful. He's a pretty new user, and probably needs some help understanding how to get things going for a mediation; it might be helpful for someone of your experience to sort of show the way, help him to raise the question on the talk page of the article, and so on. Just a suggestion that you might find useful to de-escalate the situation. Best, Risker (talk) 03:19, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

RfA
1. Have you ever been blocked? Nope
2. Ever had an Editor Review? Nope
3. An RfA? Nope
4. What (if any) horrible skeletons lie in your editing closet? I once had to put myself on wikileave because I just got so frustrated with another user. A newbie tried to report me to admins for deleting his edits (which was agreed by all that it was spam) and I was just so frustrated, feeling like I did all this work to help Wikipedia for nothing. I was back within a week.
5. Got much recent experience at AfD? Recent, no. I have voted in several AfDs before.
6. Are there any major mainspace contribs or other subsantial edits that you are particularly proud of? Yes, I worked very hard on the Rainbow Brite article, and started the Emotionally unstable personality disorder article. I also recently tried to clean up the Abby Sciuto article which was labeled as sounding like a fan site. I occasionally go through the list of articles needing copyedit and clean them up.
7. Is there anyone else who has expressed interest in nomming you for adminship? Yes, User:Shicoco said she would support me.
8. Is there anyone specific you would have particularly liked to nominate you? (If yes, I can ask them if they would like to co-nom.) You and Shicoco would be fine. :) RainbowOfLight Talk 02:57, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi you have written this on my talk "Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. J.delanoygabsadds 15:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)"
But the links, in my humble opinion, are not inappropriate, because the page contains java applications opensource that implements the algorithms descibed in the articles. For these reasons i would insert the links and not for spam.

Inappropriate deletion
I am extremely angry and upset that you have deleted the 'Orsumball' article as 'pure vandalism'. That is completely untrue and is a blatant abuse of your power. With all due respect you do not live in Clayton, Melbourne, Australia so you probably wouldn't have heard of Orsumball. That is why a wikipedia article was created to inform others of this sport.
If there is a particular aspect of the article that should be corrected that is one thing, but to delete articles for no reason other then that you have no knowledge of the content is abhorrent. Unless you recognise and correct your inappropriate actions I will be taking my complaint to a higher authority.
I hope you realise I am deeply and personally offended by your actions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lewy 4466 (talk • contribs) 16:16, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Mercantilism
Hi,
You just reverted an edit I made on the article on Mercantilism. Before my edit, the opening read "Mercantilism is the idea that a colony should export more goods than it imports and that a colony should sell at higher prices and buy at lower prices". This is inaccurate because this policy was followed by colonial powers and independent states, not by colonies. The role of colonies was to provide the markets with which colonial powers could maintain a trade surplus. Otherwise, it would be the colonies that accumulated gold and silver, going against the perceived interests of the mother country.
I checked and the version of the article that you restored has been in place for a while, but it is wrong. Check, for instance the link below:
http://www.econlib.org/library/Enc/Mercantilism.html
Thanks!

Question
I was blocking this vandal and the following question occurred to me: What's the difference between being blocked infinitely and being blocked indefinitely? I wasn't sure. SpencerT♦C 21:47, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- This would me my guess, even though I'm not an administrator: Being blocked infinitely must mean forever and ever; being blocked indefinitely probably means for an unknown amount of time, which could be approved or not by a user's unblock request. I have always seen vandalism-only accounts being blocked indefinitely, but that's my guess. SchfiftyThree (talk!) 21:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
- The reason for that, Schfifty, is because "indefinite" is at the top of the list of suggested block times, while "infinite" is at the bottom. For the most part, there is no practical difference between the two, since an "indefinite" block will not expire until an admin lifts it, same as an "infinite" block.
- IMO, the distinction is only useful when dealing with established users. Blocking an established user "indefinitely" could mean, "You have been blocked until [insert problem here] has been resolved.", whereas blocking infinitely would mean, "See ya!". When dealing with simple vandals, "indefinite" is preferred solely because it is easier to click on. J.delanoygabsadds 22:02, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Deletion of zuguide link
I'm sorry, I'mv new at this, so I'm not putting in a lot of references. I saw that you deleted an addition of the zuguide external link from the Cate Blanchett article. I happenned to see zuguide for Cate Blanchett before you deleted it, it looks like you are not the first, and I really don't understand why. I really like zuguide's Cate Blanchett page, I love movie trailers, and movie stills. On the zuguide help pages, it says the material is licensed. I read through the external links guidelines, it also seems to fit those, since it seems to complement wikipedia, it's a rich media site, is not copyright violation, it's free, and you don't need to register. In other words, I read through all the external link guidelines and it seems to fit.
I actually use external links in wikipedia quite a lot, since unlike google searches they are more reliable. In this case, I think deleting this link (and I presume others to zuguide) is unfortunate. Please let me know what you think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talk • contribs) 00:10, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I honestly do not remember making that revert. It may have been in error. J.delanoygabsadds 00:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Could you check it out? Respond, and if you think it's right undo your change? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talk • contribs) 01:26, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think an appropriate response here would be to ask you a few questions. For example, your account is an awesome 40 minutes old, and yet you know
- How to use a page history
- What a talk page is
- That I am an administrator (the only logical explanation why you did not simply re-add the link)
- How is that?
- Also, why are you contacting me now about an revert I performed four days ago on another user? J.delanoygabsadds 01:34, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Fair. Let me answer your questions. I did some wikipedia editing about a year ago, but stopped, because the things I added, including just spelling errors were reverted, it was just very frustrating. I had a login, but I can't remember the login or password. I do have over 20 years experience in programming so figuring out a page history and talk page, was pretty simple.
As I wrote earlier, I saw the link to zuguide.com when I looked at the article, tried out the link, liked it, but then it was gone, and this upset me, because this seems to happen all the time in wikipedia. So I decided I should do something about it, or at least learn about it. I read some of the guidelines about Third Party and stuff like that, but the pages said the best thing to do before anything else was to "Talk" to the user who reverted the entry. I figured I could just add it again, but that would just be begging the question, this time, if I'm going to get involved, I want to figure out how it works, so that I don't just add to an entry and find it deleted 10 minutes later.
On your page, it says fairly openly that you an administrator, so I figured you are a good person to ask. Your answer was a bit disappointing, because you said it might be a mistake, but I figured since you willing to admit that possibility you would be a good person to answer my questions.
In any case, can we get back to the question at hand? And let me ask another question, given that you are an admin, can I just undo your undo? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Movietrailerfan (talk • contribs) 11:55, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yep. Anyone can undo anyone else (except for obvious stuff like blatant vandalism, and as long as they are not edit-warring.). Administrators don't have any special status here, just expanded technical abilities, which they are only allowed to apply in accordance to establish practice and policy. As far as the link goes, it makes little difference to me whether or not the link was there. I apologize for not assuming good faith. If you want to re-add the link, I personally have no opinion, good or bad, regarding its inclusion. Thanks, J.delanoygabsadds 12:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Link Help
Hi there, as you just introduced me to the Wikipedia :-) I have to annoy you with a question. I'm not happy with the contributions of 69.117.237.203 as it only consists of inserting links. These links are of no quality as it is a BLOG with embedded videos from kickapps.com/videos (therefore now own or unique content) and additionally every visitor of this site gets to see heaps of ADVERTISING. I do not see any sense in keeping these links. As I'm not 100 % sure if I can just remove all of them myself, or if I have to "ask" someone to do so, or if Wikipedia is happy to see these links as no one else has done anything against these links yet. Thanks in advance and sorry for annoying/stealing your time. Cheers --Aff123a (talk) 18:51, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- No you don't have to ask anyone. If you see something that you think shouldn't be there, change it! That's what Wikipedia is all about! Just use common sense, and you should be fine. As far as our spam-happy friend, it looks like all the links he has added have been removed. Some useful templates to warn people like that may be found at WP:UTM. If he keeps doing it after receiving a level four warning, report him on WP:AIV. Hope that helps. J.delanoygabsadds 18:59, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Pennsylvania
Are you from PA, or is it just on your watchlist? By the way, I found your list of random things on your userpage hilarious. GrszReview! 19:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- No and no. I am using a software tool called Huggle to fight vandalism. Huggle scans Special:Recentchanges and it sets up a queue of diffs made by editors not on its whitelist. Each diff is sent to me to see if it is vandalism or no. If it is, I can hit one key to automatically revert the vandalism and issue an appropriate level warning to the vandal. So what happened was, someone vandalized Pennsylvania, Huggle saw the change and sent me the diff, and I reverted. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed my list. IMHO, User:Thingg's is better, but yeah. Have a good evening! J.delanoygabsadds 21:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

You just reverted an edit I made that was both true and notable. I may not know all the ins and outs of Wikipedia, but I do know that you shouldn't have reverted it.
Wow. Now I have to go back and fix it, 'cause you didn't even bother to do that when I explained it. Also, you could have looked at my previous edits and seen that they were correct and concise. Jerk.
- After reading the diffs, I Endorse J.delanoy's action. While it was a strange event, it isn't relevant to the article. --Terrillja (talk) 01:40, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey, Terrillja, do me a favour: hop on over to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Polytechnic_Institute_and_State_University and delete the part of the article that says "history" and then delete the part that says "Massacre". While it was a strange event, it isn't relevant to the article. Dumbass.
wow
how did u catch me that quick wen i changed only a few words?
- The tool is called Huggle. Don't ask me why the creator named it that. J.delanoygabsadds 01:27, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Another wow, from the other side of things
I've been running Huggle for the last few hours, and (I'm just now starting to use it, so I'm still slow) I've been just tailing you... You are right ahead of me, and faster on all accounts :) Awesome. In other news, The message above me cracked me up xD ~Pip 02:00, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

What happened?
I'm just curious to see what was on the page Jock Boy by User:PerkinsClass because I warned him. Do you remember? Thanks! Jock Boy (t-c) 02:43, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Bayfield
Okay, now I want to know. I saw you'd unblocked him, and I was about to post that I agreed, because I didn't see anything either, in the contribs or deleted contribs. Then you reblocked, and you're kicking yourself into the next county... So, what'd you see? I'm dying of curiosity. :) --Elonka 04:18, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Special:Contributions/IAmKenBayfield. I don't know if he's try to evade a block or what. Either way, I gave Tim a yellow bar when he logs in, and I don't want to get involved in something where I don't fully understand the background. That is why I did not "officially deny" Bayfield's (the first one) unblock request. J.delanoygabsadds 04:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
problem with a user
Hi J.delanoy I have a problem with an user. He has deleted the links that I have inserted after you have given me permission (do you remember our discussion 2 day ago). This is the link to discussion with user [11]. Thanks--Angelus1383 (talk) 11:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello
Morning, Mr. Delanoy. I'd like to let you know I was interested in your chess game. Do you mind indefinately fully protecting it so that vandals won't blank it/start a game without me knowing?--Stereotyper (talk) 10:46, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you are asking. If I fully protected it, that would defeat the whole purpose of asking people if they wanted to play with me. J.delanoygabsadds 13:00, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I meant protecting my chess file, not yours.--Stereotyper (talk) 19:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry. Done. J.delanoygabsadds 19:50, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

user page protection.
Is it possible for you to protect my original userpage location? Although it isn't generally possible for anyone but established users to physycally modify my userpage, IP's can still do this. VandalismDestroyer | Talk to me 14:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you. Looks like the guy did it again 2 more times. I don't dare to click the date(s), because that's just too vile. VandalismDestroyer | Talk to me 23:39, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

- Hmmm. I don't know. Your talk page had less than 500 revisions, so it shouldn't have broken the site. J.delanoygabsadds 01:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I really hate to have to bother you again. He's at it again, this time targeting my alternate account. VandalismDestroyer | Talk to me 03:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- All right! :D He's operating from two IP ranges, and both are registered to the University of Boston!!!. I nuked one of the ranges for 2 weeks, and I made a note of the other, so if he comes after you, let me know. I have to go to sleep now, so if you're going out of your mind, tell someone to block 128.197.0.0/16 (Anon-Only AccountCreationBlocked) for two weeks with the block reason being
{{schoolblock}}
. - That is,
- Enter the exact phrase "128.197.0.0/16" (without quotes) into the "user" section of Special:BlockIP,
- Enter a block reason of {{schoolblock}} and
- An expiry time of two weeks.
- I go into so much detail because many admins are reluctant to apply rangeblocks, and I figured it would be easier (if you have to ask someone) if they have step-by-step instructions. I hope that helps, and BTW, I have watchlisted both of your pages. J.delanoygabsadds 04:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Recreation of a CSD?
You may want to look at User:DrummerMike because it might be a recreation of Michael Barrie which was CSD'd yesterday. I stumbled across this because he is listed on the List of drummers. Thanks Soundvisions1 (talk) 14:50, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't think that it is a problem. Many times users are encouraged to develop articles in their userspace, and it appears that this is what he is trying to do. J.delanoygabsadds 17:38, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Wow. That was fast...
Sorry, that was too good of a moment not to share :) ˉˉanetode╦╩ 20:06, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- haha! I seriously could not believe how fast it got vandalized again. I mean, I removed the template, clicked "save page", and clicked "my watchlist", and there was the vandalism on my watchlist. J.delanoygabsadds 20:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Vandal proof user-page
Hi there, building on the success of your "un-vandalizeable" user-page, I've decided to employ the same tactic of using hidden messages to deter vandals from finding my sub-pages. [13] Cheers --Flewis(talk) 09:17, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I just received an e-mail from Roger H. Goun, the creator of the image of Palin, seeking proper attribution. My original upload properly attributed the photo to him and contained a link to the original flickr image. When you moved the image, the attribution was, at best, obscured. Is there some way to fix this? Thanks. --Evb-wiki (talk) 14:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for that. It looks like he (rather clumsily) attempted to fix it himself. I combined the templates, and I will send him a Flickrmail explaining that it was my fault, not yours. Again, I apologize for causing you this problem. J.delanoygabsadds 14:51, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Spilt milk. Thanks. --Evb-wiki (talk) 14:58, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
revision on Long Ashton
Hi, you recently reverted an edit by 87.86.172.35 on Long Ashton. I can see why you deleted the URL as linkspam but the rest of the edit about the cricket club seemed OK to me (if in need of wikifying & formatting) was there a a particular reason?— Rod talk 16:37, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- You're right. I self-reverted. J.delanoygabsadds 17:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks I've wikified & taken out the linkspam.— Rod talk 17:32, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

- Maybe not... J.delanoygabsadds 19:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
- If the edits were deleted could you just email me the IP address used and the time stamp? That would probably be enough. The IP addresses are slightly dynamic as I understand it so they'll need to know what time they were ocurring at. JoshuaZ (talk) 19:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
