Thanks for your recent repair[1] of that template. I should have been more mindful with my own edit, so I appreciate that you noticed and corrected the omission. Thanks again, and take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:31, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Would you like to adopt?
Hi there! I've got quite a list of users at User:Netalarm/Survey that would like to be adopted. Would you like to adopt one? Their interests and preferences are all listed on that page, so if you would like to adopt one, please place {{Done|Adopted by USERNAME}} under the header and notify the adoptee. Thanks. An update from adopt a user
Hi there Intelligentsium! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.
On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.
Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.
Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

GOCE copy edit drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue. Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Awards and barnstars A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page. Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive! |
Greetings, Intelligentsium! I'm trying to get Protemblemaria perla up to DYK standards. I've gotten it up to about 900 bytes of straight content, but it needs at least 600 more, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to siphon more information out of the document on the paper in which the species was formalized. I was hoping, since you are part of Wikiproject fishes, that you could help. Thanks in advance!!! Wilhelmina Will (talk) 05:51, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- The document has more than enough information to write a DYK. I'm a bit occupied right now but I can give you some tips, and look at it if I have time later. Try separating the major topics (distribution and habitat, description, phylogeny, etc.) into their own paragraphs, then develop each paragraph with about equal amounts of detail. You can start by describing the colour (in life, of course), fins and head, relationships, and sexual dimorphism. As an aside, there is a standardized citation template for citing FishBase ({{Fishbase}}), if you wish to use it over manually inputting the citation. Intelligentsium 00:59, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- Does it look good now? Wilhelmina Will (talk) 03:44, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I was actually thinking separate paragraphs without headers than sections, but your way also works. However, after skimming the paper I have doubts about referring to the maximum length, or even the maximum known length, if the species is known from only three specimens. There might not be sufficient sources to give the reader an adequate view on the subject, but considering the available information, you did a good job with the article. Hi, ifu s was designed for use where the requester satisfied their own request. The colour is different and the text is different. If they succeed in uploading the image themselves, then it was not declined, and it was not accepted either, but it was a success. It shows as a dark green bar. Please don't merge it, as Sven also working here asked for this capability too. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:53, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Leporinus fasciatus
On 24 November 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Leporinus fasciatus, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that, though native to the River Amazon in South America, Leporinus fasciatus (pictured) has been introduced to the US states of Florida and Hawaii via aquarium releases? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Harry Barr feedback
Thank you very much for your feedback on my article User:Benlevy1/Harry Barr - I have made some amends to try and improve it based on your advice. Benlevy1 (talk) 22:43, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry for the belated response. Your article is very nicely done. I would recommend adding more footnotes (see Help:Footnotes for information on how). I can help you format the footnotes, but I cannot see the sources so I cannot help you decide where to put them. Generally speaking at least one per paragraph, usually at the end, is ideal. You don't necessarily need more sources, but if the sources support more than one statement they can be cited more than once (I can help you with this if needed). When you think your article is ready you can move it to the mainspace, removing the {{Userspace draft}} tag at the top. If you do not know how to do this I can do it for you. Intelligentsium 01:52, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the notes. I have now worked out multiple references! I have some more sources as well now so I'll try and write up some more soon. I tried the page move myself but it hasn't worked out to well. I thought the page could be moved to 'Harry Barr' in the main namespace, but that was redirecting to another article called Henry Burr. So I asked about it and someone suggested a different name. I didn't realise that it would just end up there - it's now at Harry Barr (Illustrator). I think that's wrong but I'm not exactly sure how to change it (even having read the help) - I think Harry Barr (artist) would be OK. Would be grateful if you could help.Benlevy1 (talk) 07:45, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Mary Parker (actor)
Hi, thanks for your help. I know almost nothing about all of this, but have started a page for a Hollywood actress that I, unfortunately am the only "expert" on. I am in the process of working with this person's family on a full biography, but at the moment cannot devote adequate time towards fixing the issues that have caused the two warning boxes to appear at the top of the page. Can you offer any suggestions for my newly constructed page? Mary Parker (actor)
thanks, I appreciate it! Punkinsparker (talk) 03:40, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Hello again, Punkinsparker. Unfortunately, from what you are telling me it seems the subject of the biography may not meet the relevant inclusion criteria of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is based on the idea of creating a freely-edited but verifiable encyclopaedia—that is, one in which any reader can verify the information he or she reads. Consider any of our best articles, say the one about Belgium. At the bottom of the article, you will see a section labelled Notes with various bibliographical citation. Throughout the article, there are superscripted numbers (like this[1]) at the end of every few sentences which correspond to these footnotes. These footnotes, or references, tell the reader where the information presented came from, so that he or she could verify the information is accurate if desired. However, not just any sites or references are used, as you can see; all the citations are to books from reputable publishers, mainstream media (newspapers, magazines, etc.), and similar sources, or websites thereof. This is a corollary to our policy of verifiability: that the information presented is sourced to reliable sources on the subject.
- A problem (though by no means an insurmountable one) with your article that I can see is that you have no such footnotes or references, which makes it impossible for readers to verify that the information is accurate. For an article to be admissible, it must contain reliable sources. Another problem is that you are "the only 'expert' on [the subject]". While personal background knowledge can help, Wikipedia articles must be based on sources, and not personal knowledge or original research. A possible problem also arises if you are being paid by this person's family to write the biography, on Wikipedia or elsewhere. If this is the case, you have what is called a conflict of interest; you are affiliated with the subject in some way, or you stand to benefit if the subject is portrayed a certain way. Wikipedia discourages writing with a conflict of interest, as doing so may make it difficult to keep to the neutral point of view expected of an encyclopaedia.
- By now, you might be wondering what can be done about these problems, so that the article may be made suitable for Wikipedia. These problems are not unresolvable: you can add outside, published sources (not personal interviews or knowledge) to resolve the sourcing and original research concerns. If you have a conflict of interest, another editor (possibly myself) can review your article to make sure it is written neutrally (although it is really preferred that you write about something else if this is the case—do you have any other areas that you would like to write about?). However, Wikipedia is built upon the policy of verifiability, so sources are essential. If sources do not exist, then I'm afraid your article may not be suitable for Wikipedia.
- Wishing that we can work together to write your article to Wikipedia's standards, Intelligentsium 21:45, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
That is so kind of you to take so much of your time in explaining all of this to me. My research on Mary Parker (and any subsequent biography) is entirely at my own personal expense, so I suppose I do not have a real conflict of interest, but i do understand your points. I have listed several external links with information on the subject, and looking through several entries (for much more obscure persons)of other Hollywood actors, my page seems to be okay by comparison. My references add up to hundreds of newspaper articles, library articles and other items that I'm presently going through and noting...just not sure I can get those up on Wikipedia in the very near future. If you feel you wouldn't be terribly bored in revising or adjusting what I've written, that would be terrific. if not, and it seems like a lost cause, that's okay too. Seems a shame though-Mary was a truly important figure in American stage and screen, yet fell into obscurity due to some unfortunate circumstances. Punkinsparker (talk) 23:14, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- I have made some minor formatting and stylistic changes. If you have "hundreds of newspaper articles, library articles and other items", then I am optimistic about your article. I understand that you might not have time to post the bibliographic information of all of your sources, but you could meet sourcing requirements if you could post even four or five of your best sources' source information. By "best", I mean the most reliable sources, and those that go into the most detail about the subject. I have suggested places where you could insert footnotes, using the crude but effective [citation needed] tag. Intelligentsium 23:50, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your time and help-you made it easy to understand and I have begun the process of fixing the omissions. Punkinsparker (talk) 00:14, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Greetings, Intelligentsium! You might recall me asking you about Protemblemaria perla a while back, and whether it could qualify for DYK or not. I was hoping if you could look over Gillellus inescatus, as I've been trying to ready it for DYK as well. Thanks in advance! Wilhelmina Will (talk) 02:14, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hello again! This article seems at first glance to meet DYK requirements. However, there are only two sources (and it is possible there simply do not exist any more), which presents a problem. DYK reviewers generally expect several sources for added verifiability (though quality matters more than quantity, quantity matters too). A more serious problem is that if the species is only known from one specimen, it is difficult to talk about the species' description and distribution, even specifically noting that they are uncertain, without conveying a false impression of accuracy. For example it does not really make sense to say that "Gillellus inescatus can reach a length of 2.35 centimetres" if there is only one specimen. While this one will probably pass DYK despite these concerns, I'd advise against writing about species only known by one specimen in the future. Intelligentsium 04:01, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
- Okey-doke, I'll bear that in mind! Thanks for your help! :) Wilhelmina Will (talk) 10:12, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello Wikifiers! Sorry this Newsletter is late, It should have gone out a month ago. I've been very busy in real life and didn't have time to get over to the newsletter. In this edition of the Newsletter, we have an editorial written by our new executive coordinator; Guoguo12. Guoguo12 has succeeded Mono due to an indefinite wikibreak. We also have the results of the February and March Mini drives. Happy Wikifying, Sumsum2010, the assistant coordinator of WikiProject Wikify |

June 2011 Wikification Drive
Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify's June Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by about 900 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive awards for their contributions! If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks! Note: The drive starts June 1, but you can still sign up! |

Thank you for answering my question about talk page eMail notifications. I'm not sure if I should do this here or on my talk page so I did it in bath places. Please have a good day! --Alex146 (talk) 14:36, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Hi
Please have a look at:1900 National Upheaval, and suggest some ways to improve the translation. Thanks. Arilang talk 04:29, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Arilang. I can take a look but I unfortunately don't have a lot of time to commit to a major project like this at present. Something I noticed right away though: why did you begin the translation three paragraphs down from the start of the Chinese original, rather than starting from the beginning? - OK, it was because there were some words in those paragraphs that I could not find the right words, nothing much, once problems solved, I would start working from the top. Arilang talk 05:52, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
